Well, you've read the notes, the notes had irony, and now it is time for you to post until the ironic cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: BIDENTATE!
-
Jose, what new computer? Did you get one of the new-fangled Macbook Pros?
-
I really wanted to be in bed by ten-thirty - oh, well. I shall to bed now.
-
DR Jennifer - As for hospitals and children. I think it's just up to each hospital, each unit, and ultimately the parents. I do have to say, I was a little wary of walking my nieces and nephews through some "open hallways" where they could peer into other patient's room, but they seemed to have not noticed anything out of the ordinary. As for germs, there are Purel stations in every room, by every elevator and in every bathroom - at least at Henrico Doctors.
-
Jose, what new computer? Did you get one of the new-fangled Macbook Pros?
Nope. My brother had a "spare" MacBook - the previous "white" model at work, and he gave it to me. I don't really need the "Pro". At least I don't think so. Now, the Airbook is a different story. ;)
-
OK - I must to bed.
Goodnight.
-
I would love to get a laptop or macbook...
-
I could use a new computer, but I don't need a new computer. It'll last for a while longer.
-
Had a lovely surprise visit of DF this past weekend... It was nice to be pampered and squired....
-
I have custom built desktop but ti would be nice to have a small laptop or notebook...
-
TOD:
I love Juano's pico de gallo. Spicy but not overly spicy. Their burritos are excellent and VERY filling.
Paradiso makes an excellent hot sauce and it not overkill on the seasonings.
My mother's macaroni salad.... I am still attempting to get her dressing down.... It is GOOD!
-
Charlie's ice cream in Fargo...
http://charliesicecreamparlour.com/ This place has to be experienced... nuff said!
Jose would even like this place!
-
Jose, I hope your mother is doing better. I have had you and your family in my thoughts...
-
Charlies even has coconut ice cream...
-
it is quiet tonight...
-
Charlies even has coconut ice cream...
Ooo...coconut ice cream sounds very good! :D
-
Knoephla soup is available locally.... a wonderful German treat....
Also between thanksgiving and christmas Lefse is available. It looks like a giant potato tortilla where you spread it with butter and sprinkle brown sugar on it. Once the treats are on it, you roll it up like a cigar and eat it....
They also use them for local adaptation called "Uff-da Tacos"
-
Charlies even has coconut ice cream...
Ooo...coconut ice cream sounds very good! :D
If you come and visit, I will take you...
-
Ilike there choco covered strawberry and their mango one.
-
There flavours vary and they have different ones every day or so.
-
That sounds like a great place to eat! If I ever travel to your part of the country, I'll definitely stop by!
;D
-
It is fun to feel like a little kid in there...
Another neat place that I liked on my travels was Judd's Store in ST. George Utah
-
Yesterday, my parents came over to my place and gave me my Christmas present! It was on sale (half price!!), so they chose to get it and give it to me now...which is fine with me. :) Anyway, they got me a new sleeper-sofa for my downstairs where I normally never spend any time, but I need someplace downstairs where I can sleep when it gets very warm in the summer. My bedroom is up on my third floor and the heat rises up to where I have no openable window. Last year, it got up to 93° up there...that I noticed. :P Anyway, here are some pictures (please pay no attention to the clutter in the background). Here it is with the little pillows that came with it:
-
I am thinking I may have to be a new antenna to get all of my channels. I am still having troubles pulling in the digital channel for the fox channel here. I can only pull in the analog signal, fair at best. The other channels are coming in well.
-
And here's the main reason I bought this particular model...the storage under the seat cushion :D :
-
Looks nice George....
-
And here it is, laying (lying??) flat:
The cushions are very firm, which is fine for sleeping (I used to have a futon) and hopefully, will make it last a LONG time.
-
Extra storage is always good and it is a good place to stash the pillows and blankets for unexpected guests, etc
-
Extra storage is always good and it is a good place to stash the pillows and blankets for unexpected guests, etc
Exactly!
-
It looks sort of like a futon folded out flat like that
-
Looks nice George....
Thanks. And one last picture. Here is the couch with one of the arms removed. They fit snuggly on the brackets and just lift off. Both arms also fit in the storage area, as do the little pillows. It's quite versatile.
-
It looks sort of like a futon folded out flat like that
Yup. Now that I actually have it, I really like it. ;D
-
Just had to share. :)
-
nice place even to sit and chat with friends or curl up with a good book
-
nice place even to sit and chat with friends or curl up with a good book
Most definitely...it's right in front of my fireplace.
-
And on that note (C...for couch), I'm off to bed.
Good night, Dakota and guests.
-
that is neat that the arms can come off also...

Good night George... I am heading out also....

Congratulationson the new couch, George ! It looks very nice and it is very cleverly designed with the storage and the removable arms. May it give you many years of trouble free use

-
Lovely present from your parents, George!!!
-
Tummy vibes to Ann
-
DR GEORGE your new couch looks just like it did in the ad!
DR CILLA LIZ - your new niece kitty looks exactly like our former late kitty Tiffany....who spent a few years with us and then went to live in the country - and made the mistake of thinking he could survive a fight with about twenty chickens.
-
Great news about DR TCB's friend.....
And I love DR TOMovOZ's French Postcards.
-
I do not know from cooking or recipes.
So continuing with yesterday's TOD:
All of Chinese Food in Bed
All of Madame I Like Your Crepe Suzettes....especially as sung by Red Skelton and Martha Mears (For Lucille Ball) in DuBarry Was a Lady
Danny Kaye also did a nice recording of it.

Tummy vibes to Ann
I'll take some of that action, too.

Indeed, tummy vibes to Jrand as well

Good Morning All! I have the door open and am listening to the birds as they start to wake up.

Good Morning All! I have the door open and am listening to the birds as they start to wake up.
Fun......I don't think I have mentioned here that Miss Abby - our yellow canary, who lives in a cage in the kitchen - always talks when one is talking on the telephone.
She now of course also does 7 chirps to simulate making a call....and she can also imitate the digital phone ring.....
-
Ah yes the photo folder is full....
-
My theatre website account has been suspended AGAIN. And of course emails to the person who wanted to take over the site and promised and swore he had plenty of time to take care of it, and changed everything about it......won't answer emails.....

I think I will go to BLockbuster and see what kind of PV DVD's they have on sale this morning.
-
Tuesday morning greetings! My only work hours today will be the ones in the middle of the day when I speak to the luncheon gathering of the Butler County Development Roundtable. Otherwise, I'm still on vacation, unpacking and recovering from my weekend trip.

RE: last night's DANCING WITH THE STARS
*
*
*
I think my favorites are still the same as last week. I like brooke and derek and lance and lacey.
My other favorite is cody and julianne. She has always been my favorite professional dancer. And i knew he had potential. But last night was the first night where i actually thought he danced great. Finally! In previous weeks he had been so stiff.
My guess for who will go home would be susan lucci. Although really it could be cloris (i thought she did quite well again last night).
-
Had a lovely surprise visit of DF this past weekend... It was nice to be pampered and squired....
"Pampered and Squired" - that's the title of my new romance novel!
DR DakotaCelt, I'm glad you had a nice visit with your DF. Any wedding plans yet?
-
Good morning, all! The Men's Chorus rehearsal was quite a lot of fun, and I stayed for the whole evening. It was nice to see old friends and hang out listening to other arrangements. This Sunday the Chorus is dong a guest shot with gloria Gaynor at some benefit, so I got to watch the rehearse to a track of "I Will Survive," and Charlie's choral arrangement added a layer of Swingle Singers to the song.
Today, I'm back to THE MOST HAPPY FELLA; I'd like to get through most of Act One this week. First thing this morning, tidying up the apartmnet and carting things to the basement. For my walk, I've got physical therapy at 12:45 so I'll start the walk around noon..
-
Starbucks has a set up in front of our building this morning offering free cups of coffee and oatmeal. I didn't catch the flavor of the coffee but it wasn't bad. The oatmeal was instant but pretty delish, especially with the added nuts and dried fruit (I passed on the brown sugar.)

TOD: The best macaroni salad can be found in Van Nuys, BK. It is also where the best Texas B-B-Q I've ever had can be found. It is Dr. Hogly-Wogly's Tyler Texas B-B-Q. My mouth is watering even as I write.

Beeyootiful autumn mornings are the perfect time to listen to the music of Vince Guaraldi.

Our Upload folder is full? No mo photos?

Theoretically, with the new board bk now has the power to purge the upload folder without having to go to Mark.
-
Good morning!
It must not have gotten as cold last night as predicted because the house wasn't nearly as cold as I expected it to be when I got out of bed. Yes, it's certainly chilly inside, but today's high of 70 should take some of the chill out of the air.
-
As I mentioned last night, I'll be working on SHREK THE HALLS this afternoon, the holiday SHREK special from last year. At 22 minutes and what appears to be a few holiday singalong bonus features, I should be able to handle the whole disc this afternoon. That will leave all evening free to watch something fun and, of course, prime time TV.
-
On TV Tonight!™
CBS - NCIS, THE MENTALIST, WITHOUT A TRACE
NBC - THE BIGGEST LOSER (two hours), LAW & ORDER: SVU
ABC - DANCING WITH THE STARS (recap show, results show), ELI STONE
FOX - HOUSE, FRINGE
-
The current Mrs. Tom Cruise makes her first guest appearance on ELI STONE tonight. She's featured in the show's big production number and then assumes her role as a clumsy young lawyer. Can't wait to see the show (not because of her), one of my absolute favorites currently on TV.
-
Can't contribute to the TOD. Though I will eat some of the things mentioned occasionally at restaurants, I have no special memories of them anywhere, and I don't fix them for myself very often either so no recipes to impart.
-
And the word of the day is: BIDENDATE!
Here in Delaware, when we go out on the town with a Senator it's called a BIDENDATE.
You had to ask.
-
Theoretically, with the new board bk now has the power to purge the upload folder without having to go to Mark.
I hope he will attempt it. It would be great to have it emptied so more photos of travels, etc. can be put up.
BTW, I liked the new sofa, DR George. The storage is great, and how convenient to have a fold out downstairs! I love having company, but the futon in my guest bedroom is a PAIN to fold out. I'd much rather have something like that.
-
Re Mr. Blackwell's passing:
He and his partner showed up more than a couple of times at Log Cabin meetings in Los Angeles. I didn't really get to meet him, however, other than a quick hello. Considering that I'd show up wearing the duds I'd worn to work that day, I figured it would be cruel to tempt fate and force him into saying anything. ::)
-
George: Might I suggest investing in a vinyl sheet, in case you have a guest?

The Dog Ate My Cellphone.
No, it's not the title of my next novel. It happened to Anthony in Chicago.
He is now an unemployed actor and working his way back to New York. His cousin lives in Chicago (two hours from Fort Atkinson, WI) and he stopped there last night on his way back to the City. She has a dog and Anthony didn't shut to door to the spare bedroom fully. The dog got in and chewed up his hat and the cell phone. The phone still works but it looks pretty banged up. He never used it but the camera may be a fatality. We shall see.
Depending on how long he stays in Chicago he will be back in New York tomorrow evening or Thursday evening. His cousin wants to have some friends over for dinner tomorrow and introduce them all to her Actor Cousin, Anthoy Morelli. If he stays for the party he will leave Chicago on Thursday morning and get back here sometime Thursday night.

TOD:
I generally avoid comfort foods when we go out for dinner. If I can make them at home, I don't need to have them away from home.
Of course, I understand that there are those who don't cook at home, because they don't know how, and are reduced to getting their comfort foods elsewhere. I also realize that Kraft Macaroni and Cheese Dinner is a perennial best seller. To which I can only say BLECH!!!
It was, in fact, having a comfort food at a restaurant that made me pursue making it at home. Der B and I were in Washington DC for some reason or other, and before starting on our long drive homewards stopped at a restaurant for dinner. It was fairly busy, in a popular sort of way, which should have been our tip-off.
What we both started our meals with was a cup each of French Onion Soup. It was not good. The chef, or the owners, had decided to put his/their own twist on the traditional recipe, and had added tarragon. Not right, not right at all.
I never order French Onion Soup any more when I'm at a restaurant. I can do it so much better, following Julia Child's recipe from Mastering the Art of French Cooking. She does not add tarragon. She does not add any herbs at all. The soup consists of good beef stock and onions that have been slowly caramelized right there in the pot. Top it off with some crispy toasts and good cheese, under the broiler, and perhaps a splash of sherry (here we do differ from Julia, because I don't like cognac), and a salad on the side, and that's a wonderful dinner. The leftovers can make a great braising liquid for pot roast, by the way, or you can reheat it and have a second bowl of soup a day or so later.
-
BTW, there are restaurants that put Kraft Mac & Cheese on their menus.
(Insert ugly epethet here.)
-
that is neat that the arms can come off also...

Now, if I were to go out to eat, Nage (http://www.nage.bz/rehoboth_beach/menu/dinner_menu.htm) (both here in Rehoboth Beach and in Washington DC) certainly could strike my fancy. Oooh, look, they have Three Little Pigs as an appetizer on the dinner menu! Charcuterie as comfort food, how perfectly logical! Yum!

My Mom will be coming home tomorrow morning - definitely. :)
And I will catch up when I can. And since we're now at lunch...
Laters...

Mr. Bakalor just showed me how to do the purge - but because the bulk of the purge would have to be on the old board, I only did from this new board - we're fine for now, and as we go along I think I can just maintain this board.

I think I'm still feeling better - but still coughing a lot. I don't know how I feel about jogging yet, so I'm staying put for the time being.

Hello, everyone.
Yes, I am very E&T. Just got back from lots of errands, with one more to go. I'll try to pop in again soon.
-
Oh, best foodstuffs.
For our old LA contingent:
Zito's Italian restaurant, formerly on Pico Blvd near Westwood--TANGIEST SALAD DRESSING!
My mouth is watering just thinking about it.
Campo's Burritos--avocado burrito. YUM!!

Hi, DR Jeanne -
Nice to see ya! :)
-
Hi, Sing!
Re: coleslaw (NO reference to DR mentioned above!):
the very best IMO was at Stern's Barbeque, also in LA.
I seem to be thinking a lot about LA today.
-
DR Ann I hope you are feeling better & Toby didn't mind the change in your diet. How does he feel?
Thanks DR Jane. Well, I am feeling better, but I was still icky feeling for most of the night. I'm not sure if it was related or not, but poor Toby spent the night being really uncomfortable as well. I couldn't lay him down without him spitting up all over himself. I finally propped myself up with pillows in a semi-reclined position and lay Toby on my chest so he was more upright. This seemed to help a great deal. He was still burping a lot, but the food stayed down. I'm now having some nice oatmeal and coffee, both of which I know I can tolerate well, and Toby is snoozing in my lap. I hope both of us feel better as the day goes on.
George, love the couch! I much prefer this style of sleeping couch to the old pull out ones. They always seemed to have a metal bar placed in the perfect position to totally throw out one's back while they slept.

And The Song Of The Day Is : AUTUMN LEAVES
Appropriate song, I think, seeing all the leaves out of my window. Autumn Leaves was the first song I learned to play using only chord markings. I'd learned classical piano via. the Suzuki method as a youngster, but they never taught me to read chord charts. I started learning that in middle school, starting with Autumn Leaves and Satin Doll.

Good Afternoon!
As for the Topic of the Day...
Ukrop's grocery stores in Richmond for all of them. They have two types of coleslaw, and their shrimp salad (with dill) is soooo good. I would buy it to put on crackers or make a sandwich, but would usually just end up eating right out of the container.
-
It's from hunger.
I tell you.
-
Thanks for the link, DR MBarnum! :)

TOD -
I'm very picky about most "salad" type things. I do not care for 90% of grocery store macaroni salads and potato salads. They are inevitably too mayo-y and lack any real flavor.
As for other salads, I once had a salmon-salad sandwich at a restaurant up on Orcas Island in the San Juan Islands. I can't remember the name of the place at all, but it was simply divine. It was obviously fresh made, with a bit of dill in it...soooo good.
DH Jed and I have "our" pasta salad that we make often during the summer to have in the fridge. It's a hybrid of the two pasta salads we grew up with as children. Using salad macaroni as a base, we add cubes of cheddar cheese, thawed peas, chopped green onion, crumbled bacon (NOT bacon bits) and chopped hard boiled egg. The dressing is a mayo-vinegar mix that Jed is much better at creating than I am. The dressing is only there enough to coat the ingredients, but it's not creamy and overpowering. The result is simply delicious. We've brought it to potlucks and parties, always with positive results.

I forgot to mention earlier that Charlie Beale, the Men's Chorus' new music director, missed last week's rehearsal because he was in London receiving an award from Oxford University Press for his new book.

I have nothing to add to the TOD, so instead I will attempt to add to the LOL and post another couple of fun Bollywood subtitles.

I had a good session at physical therapy; they added one new exercise, so I'm now doing three different exercises along with the ultrasound, deep heat and electroshock treatments. I walked back on amsterdam Avenue and stopped in a nice /art supplies shop on Amsterdam at 91st Street and picked up some envelopes. I need to get my photos from the past 45 years in order and labeled so I can send them to Ohio.

Well, it looks like my Thanksgiving plans are screwed: I just spoke to the lady in charge of the property closing and she says it will be another week or two because of God knows what legalities besides the goddam county and stupid beauraucrats. Given that the offer said a six-eight week period is moving into twelve weeks pisses me off a great deal.

I just took Sassy to the vet because she has been drooling for a couple of days. Turns out she has a broken jaw, probably caused from a fall. Poor old gal. Treatment is soft food and a recheck in a month to see if it heals itself.

I'm sorry you won't be going for Thanksgiving. It may be a small blessing in disguise, aside from the higher cost of flying then the chances of getting stranded are far greater this year. Around 3,000 have been canceled making the possibility of delays turning into cancellations.

How old is Sassy? I always felt so bad for the cats as high jumps became more difficult to make. Their expressions were so filled with indignity.
-
Thank goodness for the sunshine which has helped to warm up the house considerably without having to turn on the heat. Once I opened things up, the house temp rose 4 degrees. That's a BIG help.
-
I watched SHREK THE HALLS. The 22 minutes or so of program are very frantic and noisy, also a very haphazard story that's just not very funny. So, my basic feelings about the show after I saw it last holiday season really haven't changed much.
There are pleasures: Antonio Bandaras's Puss-n-Boots has been my favorite since the character was introduced in the second film, and even though his part is fairly small in this, he's a joy to hear and Puss is animated so humorously. Eddie Murphy's Donkey wears out his raucous welcome SO FAST.
The DVD looks great.
-
The bonus features are mostly related to MADAGASCAR rather than SHREK. There are two singalongs with new lyrics to "Twelve Days of Christmas" and "Deck the Halls" with penguin-slanted lyrics. There's a preschool Gingy game. And a DVD-ROM plug for a SHREK video game. And there is the same Dreamworks animated jukebox (song clips from their various animated movies) that's hawking the movies on DVD and Blu-ray that have been on other Dreamworks discs.
-
I forgot to mention what I watched as I cooked and ate lunch: RAISING THE BAR. I had read about the gay storyline, so I recorded last night's show and watched it today. The show is OK. Not great, thrilling legal drama, but it's OK. Pretty actors to be sure.
-
After I finished my work with SHREK, I put on a Charlie Chan movie: CHARLIE CHAN AT THE WAX MUSEUM. I saw it many years ago, but I didn't remember who the murderer was, and I did not guess it correctly. Darn!
The transfer with its medium amount of grain looked nice. When they put those disclaimers at the front of a movie saying they used the best available material, it makes you think it's going to look awful. This didn't at all.
-
Then, I got all the shows I wanted to record tonight set on the DVR. I'll start watching about 8:25 or so, and will do NCIS, FRINGE, and ELI STONE tonight. Others will be seen later.
-
I skimmed through today's AS THE WORLD TURNS. Nothing, but Luke was in the previews for tomorrow, back to the election story.

I had a good session at physical therapy; they added one new exercise, so I'm now doing three different exercises along with the ultrasound, deep heat and electroshock treatments.
Losing weight is really going to help all this wonderful therapy you have been receiving.:)
-
I have not stopped yet today, and that is NOT what I wanted. I did do the long jog, which was actually pretty easy today. When I got back, I had to deal with one particular annoyance, which I dealt with quickly, then I had to do my quick errand, which took about twenty minutes longer than it should have due to someone's inexperience. I then came home and did the postage for all the single disc orders - I can't do the rest until I actually have the CDs. Then I heard that I actually won't have the CDs today - they'll be finished around four, but that's after their driver has done his final run. That is really annoying to me, so I'll have them tomorrow - the problem with that, of course, is that I'm rehearsing from 10 to 3. So, when I get home at three-fifteen I'll pack up as many as I can (certainly all the single disc orders) and get those and as many others as possible out of here, then I'll have to deliver a box around five, then I'll have to get ready to go to the LACC opening night, so tomorrow's going to be absolutely insane and all because they didn't finish our order early enough to be delivered when it was supposed to be. I also have to make a serious decision whether to squeeze in one more Kritzerland limited edition CD this year - I'm just not sure if I'm up to it or not - it would be really tight to get it ready and to have them so they can all be shipped prior to Christmas. I'll have to figure it out.

My noontime presentation went well and I even managed to do a couple of errands on the way home. One of them was grocery shopping and now I'm going to make tuna glop for dinner.
TOD - my favorite cole slaw is made by the wife of one of DH Richard's honor guard compatriots. She makes it for the American Legion fish fries, which they have on alternating Fridays.

I'm hopping off line now to write up SHREK THE HALLS and get it posted. Then will head down to start the evening's viewing.

Thank goodness for the sunshine which has helped to warm up the house considerably without having to turn on the heat. Once I opened things up, the house temp rose 4 degrees. That's a BIG help.
The sunshine did the same thing here, DR Matt. Of course, it's 93 degrees here, so it's not such a good thing.

How old is Sassy? I always felt so bad for the cats as high jumps became more difficult to make. Their expressions were so filled with indignity.
We got Sassy in the spring of 1999. She is a foster reject. She had an attitude. Luckily she mellowed with age. She loves my son and he loves her.

TOD:
I once started to make Onion Soup using Julia's recipe, and I don't remember if i did something wrong or if I got interrupted, but I ended up with a whole pot of (almost) caramelized onions and wine. At that point, it couldn't be turned into soup, so I froze the stuff in about 10 different bowls and used it for months as the basis for sauce when cooking beef or chicken. It was great.

The best potato salad: mine. It started out as a recipe for Potato Salad for a crowd from either Sunset magazine or Better Homes and Gardens. The secret at that time was marinating the cooked potatoes before doing anything else. I believe the original recipe called for a homemade "French" dressing. This was quickly replaced at our house by Wishbone Italian (when everything seemed to be cooked in Wishbone Italian dressing). I later came up with my own dressing, replaced the French's mustard with Grey Poupon or some such thing and added more celery, green onions and something else I can't quite recall. I love it, but I only know how to make it for twenty people.
The best commercial potato salad: The Country Red Potato Salad at AJ's deli counter.
Best commercial macaroni salad used to be at Marie Calender's (it was actually very close to the kind we had at home)

Vibes to Sassy!

Jack Webb was not a great actor (I think he's quite good in "Sunset Boilevard" though), but he was a very smart businessman. I still can't picture him and Julie London being married, but I know they stayed frineds, and even after she married Bobby Troop, he hired them both for "Emergency." Very admirable.
-
DR Kerry, when is the party? I'm sure 20 of us can find our way to your house for potato salad ;)
-
I just took Sassy to the vet because she has been drooling for a couple of days. Turns out she has a broken jaw, probably caused from a fall. Poor old gal. Treatment is soft food and a recheck in a month to see if it heals itself.

Congratulationson the new couch, George ! It looks very nice and it is very cleverly designed with the storage and the removable arms. May it give you many years of trouble free use
Thanks! I hope I get years of use, too. :)
And thanks everyone else for all the nice comments about my new couch. :-*
-
George: Might I suggest investing in a vinyl sheet, in case you have a guest?
;)
I'll get a set just for you!

I was flat 'til I went sassy!

And thanks everyone else for all the nice comments about my new couch. :-*
It's really getting around! ;)

Extra storage is always good and it is a good place to stash the pillows and blankets for unexpected guests, etc
Exactly!

Where in tarnation IS everyone? I'm listening to the master for this title I could release this year - very tempting - it sounds fantastic.
-
I went to Gelson's deli and got some chicken jambalaya - they've had it for a few weeks now and I've been meaning to try it, so I got a small size of it and some Chinese chicken salad and just et them all up. The jambalaya was surprisingly good - I'll definitely have that again, and nothing too fattening about it. The Chinese chicken salad is nothing to write home about but I wrote home about it anyway, just because home hasn't gotten much mail lately.

Good Evening!
It was a very good day of auditions. And, now, I'm back at my apartment catching up on some of the TV programs I missed last week courtesy of the DVR.
-
Hey! I just got a call from Jenny, the stage manager for Reefer Madness! The Musical, and they offered me a role in the ensemble! I'm happy with that! ;D Rehearsals start next Monday.
-
Neither of those are MY Gelson's.
-
I forgot to mention what I watched as I cooked and ate lunch: RAISING THE BAR. I had read about the gay storyline, so I recorded last night's show and watched it today. The show is OK. Not great, thrilling legal drama, but it's OK. Pretty actors to be sure.
I, for one, sure hope it gets renewed (and since TNT reshows it at 1AM, I can always do a late taping). Did you see the earlier episode when the Wilson Cruz (of Rent fame) character was introduced?

It's already four.

I can't quite process that.

On TV Tonight!™
CBS - NCIS, THE MENTALIST, WITHOUT A TRACE
NBC - THE BIGGEST LOSER (two hours), LAW & ORDER: SVU
ABC - DANCING WITH THE STARS (recap show, results show), ELI STONE
FOX - HOUSE, FRINGE
I discovered a way out of my 10PM Eli Stone/Without a Trace/SVU dilemma - NBC replays SVU on Saturdays at 10PM. Without that chance, I would have missed last weeks SVU and Ellen Burstyn's Emmy worthy turn as Elliot's Mother sufferering from a severe case of untreated Bi-Polar disorder.

I haven't been to KFC in years. But when i was a kid i used to love their coleslaw.

Are any of these shows available to be watched online?
I know i watch The Hills every week online. and since i don't get the CW i've started watching Gossip Girl every week online too and it's quite enjoyable.

Sassy Jaw....isn't that in Arkansas someplace?
-
I saw a preview for Miss Katie Holmes" return to network television, and now I am afraid that ELI STONE is off my list. Can't watch her - she is like Dustin Hoffman to me....can't look, can't watch....though I KNOW THEY BOTH HAVE THEIR FANS.....you are stronger than I.
So...NCIS and THE MENTALIST and then DVD's!
-
I can watch Hoffman - I adore his 'Mumbles" in DICK TRACY, but Tom Cruise can keep Katie Holmes to himself. (I think that it's her ears that bother me more than her voice).
And isn't Mr. Barbra Streisand on LAW & ORDER tonight?
-
My dvd of the night is astonishing! Fellini's JULIET OF THE SPIRITS. . .
-
I got six DVD's at Blockbuster today. I only meant to get four....but when I got them to the register the young man said that two of mine were from the 4/$20 bin, so I could get two more.
Most of the $5 DVD's starred Dustin Hoffman, Samuel Jackson, or Nicole Kidman....and so I had to do some real searching.
I ended up with MISS PETTIGREW LIVES FOR A DAY, THE AMATEURS, SPEED RACER, MICHAEL CLAYTON, RENDITION, and SHOOT 'EM UP.
-
Oh! JRand58! SHOOT 'EM UP is one of my favorites!
-
I watched MISS PETTIGREW which was discussed here quite some time ago when some saw it in an actual MOVIE THEATER. I enjoyed it very much. I liked the design, McDormand & Adams, the music (very much) - and Mr Lee Pace and Mr Tom Payne (and his backside). It was a very enjoyable movie.
AND DR ELMORE I kept trying to figure out where I had seen the one girl before....and of course as the credits rolled, I realized she was Katherine in the modern SHAKESPEARE production that you recommended to me last year.....
-
Oh! JRand58! SHOOT 'EM UP is one of my favorites!
I got it because of Mr Clive Owen....and the box says Rated R for Pervasive Strong Bloody Violence, Sexuality, and Some Language. I am hoping Mr Owen is involved with at least the last two.
-
I liked SPEED RACER which was so unique and different than ANYTHING I had ever seen. I liked everyone in the movie. It didn't hurt that Emile Hirsch is very handsome. I liked John Goodman and Susan Sarandon as Mr and Mrs Racer. Didn't like the annoying kid who played an annoying kid....but at least when he was on, so was the monkey.
Didn't seem more than two hours long....I will be glad when I can see it on a screen larger than 20".
-
Mr Clive Owen has been a favorite of mine since CLOSER.....

I commented on this movie awhile back :) We laughed a lot during the Pervasive Strong Bloody Violence. Good cast, good movie.

I like Mark Strong, too, as the nightclub owner. He was the romantic lead Mr Knightley in the wonderful version of EMMA with Kate Beckinsale on A&E, and he's one of the villains in the fairy tale STARDUST.

Couldn't you have simply got an air conditioner for your bedroom and had someone give the window a latch? Inquiring minds, ya know.
No, I wish I could've just gotten an air conditioner. The third floor (where I sleep) is a loft area above and open to the master bedroom below (which I don't use as a master bedroom...it's my TV/stereo/computer room and where I spend all my time). The top level doesn't have a window, just a skylight that I can't open. :P I wanted something downstairs where I could sleep when it gets too darned hot at the top.
-
Jose, what new computer? Did you get one of the new-fangled Macbook Pros?
Nope. My brother had a "spare" MacBook - the previous "white" model at work, and he gave it to me. I don't really need the "Pro". At least I don't think so. Now, the Airbook is a different story. ;)
I just bought the black one (I bought Greg a white one last year and don't want to have 2 that look alike!) to use for archiving materials for the Mercer project. I don't think those new ones have a firewire port, right? That's something I need, so I went with the macbook.
-
Extra storage is always good and it is a good place to stash the pillows and blankets for unexpected guests, etc
You can also stash unexpected guests there.

DR edisaurus - I believe the Firewire ports on Mac were standard as of two or three years ago. ???
-
Well, I cleaned and rearranged the fridge, as well as washed some dishes and did some spot cleaning of the kitchen floor. Not a bad way to spend the evening. :-\
-
Been doing as much research as possible for my notes for the new CD - not much out there, but tomorrow I'm supposed to get some other stuff.
-
Hi, Sing!
Re: coleslaw (NO reference to DR mentioned above!):
the very best IMO was at Stern's Barbeque, also in LA.
I seem to be thinking a lot about LA today.
Me too....maybe because I'm flying there tomorrow.
bk, too bad the opening night party tomorrow is the same night I'm having dinner with friends in Burbank and hoped you could meet us. The second night is a group dinner with the Mercer team where we'll be duking it out over the direction of the show. And then I go home.
-
Dinner with friends tomorrow night is at McCormick and Schmick's on West Olive (down the street from our hotel).
The Mercer dinner will be at a restaurant called, appropriately, "Savannah".
-

From henceforth, I am Switzerland. :-X
I am also known as Switzerland on the Mercer project.

DR edisaurus - I believe the Firewire ports on Mac were standard as of two or three years ago. ???
Oh, OK, I thought the new 13" Macbooks didn't have firewire. (I think the 15" does, though.) I probably still would have gone for the cheap one anyway!
-
Extra storage is always good and it is a good place to stash the pillows and blankets for unexpected guests, etc

We're going to interview Richard Sherman in LA. I'm looking forward to meeting him after being a fan of his songs for many years.

DR Kerry, when is the party? I'm sure 20 of us can find our way to your house for potato salad ;)
You're all invited to my house-- I'll make a triple batch!!!
-
Edisaurus - please send my best to Richard Sherman. He's a great guy. Also, McKormick and Shmick's is pretty terrible, at least the one meal I had there. Hope someone's picking up the tab - it's very pricey. And I do hope you'll be calling me.

Great couch, George. Congtatulations and Merry Christmas from all of us at HHW! ;D

You'd give me trouble if I tried stuffing you in a carrier, Kerry.

I have been watching various episodes of "The Bob Newhart Show" Great cast, great writing. What fun. Unfortunately , the episodes I was looking for were on Seasons 5 and 6 (which I don't think are released yet).

I have been busy planting a butterfly garden in my backyard. Today I counted six species of butterflies flitting around.

It has been renewed already for another season. No, this was the first episode of the show I've ever watched. I may tune in again, depending on what other shows I'm watching at the time and how busy my workload is.
-
I am a big fan of Clive Owen. He got gypped out of the Oscar for CLOSER. By far the best thing in the movie.
-
I got an e-mail from the Disney representative apologizing for the lateness of the Blu-ray of TINKER BELL (which comes out next Tuesday). Supposedly, it's being overnighted to me and I should get it tomorrow. If I don't get it, I'll start on the next box set of Criterion discs - a sampler of 10 discs from their Rialto library. No bonus features on these discs, just the movies.
-
While waiting to begin prime time TV tonight, I watched the Director's Cut of DARE-DEVIL. No, not the newly released Blu-ray, but the DVD I got a year or so ago for about $4. The transfer holds up well, so I'm fine with keeping this and letting the Blu-ray pass right on by, especially since Fox's releases are the most expensive of the major studios on catalog titles.
I didn't quite get through it. The climactic fight between Affleck and Duncan had just started when I turned it off. I'll finish it tomorrow.
-
NCIS was an OK case. It didn't end as I expected it to, so that's always nice to be surprised.
-
FRINGE was also OK. I was angry that Mark Valley's name was in the credits and he didn't appear this week. Still, the weird conundrum of the week did hold my interest.
-
Cillaliz, LOL!

Healing Vibes to Sassy ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Vibes to everyone who needs them....

ELI STONE had another simply marvelous episode. I'm certainly no fan of Katie Holmes (thought she was terrible in BATMAN BEGINS), but she did a wonderful job in the song and dance department, and as the sweetly klutzy lawyer off to Africa. A truly romantic story (with twelve hot dogs instead of roses and that tearful airport scene), and I loved it.
-
Been transferring lots of files and photos... Lots.
-
Thinking about going to bed early again - rehearsal is pushed to 12:30 and CDs are "maybe" going to get here just before noon (if not, they'll be here when I return at three). I still have to do postage for all the double CD orders and the overseas, but that shouldn't take longer than about twenty minutes. And it shouldn't take longer than a half-hour to get them all packaged. But I also have to get out my big online dealer order of five boxes - that's imperative. Luckily, it's billed to a UPS number, and I've already filled out the forms, so I just have to drop them at the UPS store. Then I have to drop the packages at the USPS, then I have to deliver the box of 100. Then the next day, I'll send out the other big orders and that will be that.
-
Been throwing out a lot of stuff, but there's still a lot of stuff
-
Heading down to bed now.
Good night!

I have been watching episode after episode of ADAM-12 season two. I am in heaven.
I do get distracted by street signs in the show...I keep wanting to know where they are filming and if by chance I may have drivin through the same neighborhood as Reed and Malloy (aside from the Universal backlot neighborhood).
Twice in as many episodes they have been called the an apartment complect called Isle Harbor. I wonder where that was at?
-
BK, I have enjoyed your enjoyment of DRAGNET, and I am with you on wanting official DVD releases of all the episodes of the old version and the 60s version.
Perhaps someday.

I spoke extensively about the locations on Adam 12, almost all of which I know and called out. The back lot shots are easy to identify, but, as I wrote, there are some marvelous Valley locations - including a show shot literally two blocks from my house.
-
Well, they did release at least one set of Dragnet 67 or whatever it was called - it's great, and it, too, is loaded with great drive-by shots of the Valley, including one brilliant shot of my very own Gelson's circa 1967.

I'm really having fun playing online Scrabble through Facebook. I'm in a game with some people I grew up with and two player games with total strangers.

Speaking of exquisite colors, I had occasion to listen to Ms. Helen Reddy singing "Leave Me Alone (Ruby Red Dress)" today, and I had remembered it as such a lively, jaunty song back in the day - but am now wondering if the thing that made Ruby Red Dress say "Leave Me Alone" was something decidedly serious by 2000's standards which was being taken lightly in the 1970's. Any thoughts?
Here's the song with a very simple (to say the least) visual
