Title: HACKED

Well, you've read the notes, the notes were not hacked, and now it is time for you to post until the hacked cows come home.

Okay, we're back to normal.  Please alert the media that it is now safe to be here and everything should work fine.  Interestingly, the tech said this has indeed emanated from the host and their server and he said if they blame the software to find another host immediately.  I sent the host exactly what he wrote.  We also changed the password to the cpanel to something no one could figure out as long as they live.

As I mentioned in my email, you should get in the habit of changing the password regularly, even if you think it's unhackable.  There are programs out there that can go through literally millions of password iterations very quickly, so you need to change stuff from time to time (not that I ever follow my own advice, LOL).

Yes, it does seem that we are back up.

It's 12:41 here in New York. I'm finishing work on Robert Wood Johnson and then I head to Long Island for the weekend.

Anthony has returned to New York after a 15 hour drive from Chicago to Manhattan. He's now on Long Island sleeping it off.

Could this have been done accidentally at the host site?

Maybe I can stretch my imagination & understand why someone would want to test their hacking skills & challenge their abilities, but then why not challenge them farther & undo what was done.

Apparently, when the host did the software change they didn't protect us - they finally admitted that.  They have now, and they had a couple of questions for the software folks, which I've passed on, but we should be fine for now.  That said, I'm looking for a new host.

Title: Re: HACKED
Post by: JMK on October 24, 2008, 09:59:55 AM
Just a quick clarification, since some emails I've gotten seem to think I had a problem because I "logged out"--no, I didn't.  I am permanently logged in.  That said, I surf away from the site and then come back, still logged in.  When I left yesterday, all was fine.  When I used my bookmark to try to return (still logged in), Norton went ballistic.  :)

Thank you DR Ann.  It must be at least as beautiful where you are.  Can you carry your camera with you when you walk or is that too much with Toby in your arms?  I'm not sure I could handle both :)

Today I must do a lot of cleaning.  We have a good friend coming for dinner, and the house is a disaster right now.  I must clean the kitchen, finish the dishes, tidy the living-room, vacuum the upstairs, and clean the bathroom.  Then I must go buy some vanilla ice cream and make the apple crisp for dessert.  Hopefully Toby will let me get this stuff done.

When Bryan was a baby he didn't nap, or very rarely napped.  Eventually I discovered the young girls across the street were very handy.  I paid them to carry him around & entertain him while I did my work.  The girls loved it.

Another tip, when friends arrived I let them hold Bryan while I cooked.  Honestly, that baby didn't sleep much.

Good luck today & enjoy your evening.

I wish I had little girls across the street, that'd be great.  Toby is actually a pretty good napper, but he prefers to nap ON me.  It's just a trick of sliding his body into a bouncy seat or the crib before he realizes that he's not being held anymore.

There is nothing like a baby falling asleep in your arms.  Transferring said baby was always a challenge, at least with Bryan.  Craig slept through anything-thank goodness.

Quote
Apple donates $100,000 to fight same-sex marriage ban

Apple is contributing $100,000 to fight Proposition 8, the California ballot measure that would define marriage as only between a man and a woman. The company's announcement today came as the fight over Prop. 8 grows hotly contested, with recent polls showing the race tightening.

The Cupertino, Calif.-based company said in a statement:

Apple was among the first California companies to offer equal rights and benefits to our employees' same-sex partners, and we strongly believe that a person's fundamental rights-- including the right to marry -- should not be affected by their sexual orientation. Apple views this as a civil rights issue, rather than just a political issue, and is therefore speaking out publicly against Proposition 8.

Apple becomes the latest prominent Silicon Valley company to speak out against the measure. Google's founders gave $140,000 to the "No on 8" campaign -- $100,000 from Sergey Brin and $40,000 from Larry Page, the San Jose Mercury News reported today. The Internet company, based in Mountain View, Calif., had earlier taken the unusual step of publicly opposing the measure, which would ban same-sex marriage, saying it would have a "chilling and discriminatory effect" on many of its employees.

Stand-by for the whackos to call for boycotts!

I watched the first hour of the 2 hour premiere of THE STARTER WIFE (it just started here).

I like it so far. But my one complaint is that i feel like they've expected that we watched the minseries (which was not available here). And that bugs me. They did do a recap at the beginning of the show. But they didn't at all explain who the characters are. I really think they should have treated the first show as if people HAD NOT watched the miniseries. Because i feel like i'm missing a lot.

You know she didn't. I'm sure it was cash on the barrelhead.

When singers need charts, and often many at a time, I like to offer them extended payment periods; the work's more important and I know how cabaret folk especially live hand to mouth. I usually insist they pay the copyist in full and work out something with me. Once the work is finished and the initial payment is made, it's all found money and I don't care generally how long they take to pay, but right now, because I lost work in August while I was sick, and because I've had to deal with estmated state and government taxes, a quarterly health insurance premium, prescriptions and medical expenses from nutritionist to physical therapist, I am currently in the hole. I thought i'd be getting the check for the property closing and that hasn't happened, the Library of Congress takes up to six weeks to pay for the LiFE BEGINS AT 8:40 invoices, I'm waiting for the next payment from the Herbert-Kern project, and I'm up to my ass in debt until something comes in.

One of the two singers owing me money had a deal to pay me half upon receipt, a quarter after the first concert using the charts and the last quarter within the year. I'm waiting on the last payment from her. At the moment, i'd be happy to get the final $1200 in 6 $200 payments.

The videos have all been used so many times to record show after show that they are not worth keeping.   Great shows, lousy tapes.

And as for lunch...

I met up with an actor/friend who I worked with about 22(!) years ago.  I had dropped by to visit a friend for the weekend, and ended up playing rehearsals for her production of MAN OF LA MANCHA at the Springfield (VA) Community Theatre. And then I ended up driving back up from Richmond, where I was in my first semester at VCU, each subsequent weekend until they opened. He was playing Sancho.

Well, I ran into him sometime last year here in NYC at an audition (of course), and after a string of emails, we finally met up today for lunch. We went to Landmarc. We sat down at 1:00, and didn't leave until a little after 4:00.  We had a wonderful lunch, and great time catching up and going down memory lane. Inevitably, we found out that we have a slew of friends in common too.

It was a great way to spend the afternoon.

In going through videos of shows I taped, I have watched Murphy Brown give birth, Evening Shade, Doctor, Doctor, Square Pegs.  Some like, "paper Chase" hold up better, but still......All shows with real writing, real acting, real direction.  No "reality" here, bub!

The videos have all been used so many times to record show after show that they are not worth keeping.   Great shows, lousy tapes.

There are these cool little things out now called DVDs.

I've heard of those!

Although it is not media related, I have also been watching the water pipe at the base of the tree on my patio everytime the sprinklers come on.  It burst the other day and flooded the patio.  They fixed it, but they did not fix it right well enough, so they fixed it again yesterday.  Thank goodness, it's the pipe that waters the grass for the courtyard in this complex and doesn't affect the apartments (although it did mean that no one could water their plants using the faucets on their patios).  I figure if I could hobble inside and fill my watering can in the kitchen to water the plants that really needed it, then anyone could (even the woman who was perturbed because she'd had to wait to water her roses).  I told her (nicely, of course) that if there was a way to get all the water that had flooded my patio twice to her plants that she could have it.

So far, the repair seems to be holding.

I don't know what kind of troubles others were having with this here site earlier today (or last night????), but when I tried to log on last night after "GREY'S Anatomy" ("bite me", Jose) my Norton had a hissy fit and would not let me in.  It said there some form of virus at work.  Today, when I did a security scan, Norton told me several key functions had been "turned off" that could damage my computer if I didn't fix them.  I pressed the "fix" button and things were restored immediately.  And then I was able to log on here.

What I want to know is why these Norton functions were "turned off" and why Norton didn't prevent them from being "turned off" when I wasn't the one who "turned" them "off".

That's not the most important thing I want to know, but it will do for now.

Most of the Anita Kerr Singers' albums came out in the late 60s early 70s.

Here is a prime example of one of there songs.

Damn you Michael.  You send me to You Tube to listen to the Anita Kerr Singers, and then I have to stay and listen to some Dionne Warwick, and the next thing you know I am singing along to The Theme from THE LOVE BOAT with Jack Jones.

SOOOOOOOOO - I got a call from my dentist the other day - apparently the impression they made of my tooth for the permanent crown was judged by the lab as being inadequate so my presence was requested a for "another go"

My appointment was at 6:30 PM -- at 4 Pm I suddnely began to feel miserable,  first a headache, then my eyes began to hurt and then I started with the sneezing and the coughing

I called the dentist and asked if they still wanted to see me - I explained that I did not want to spend time with me in this condition so I would understand completely if they wanted to reschedule.

Nope they said - come on in!

SOOO we did it all again, except this time it was green  putty and she spent the whole 10 minutes with her hand in my mouth holding the metal thing down --- still a rotten no good, nope we can't use that , cast

One good thing about being hacked, is that we now have pretty strong safeguards against it ever happening again.  That said, if a real hacker wants to hack in somewhere, they will - they get into much more protected sites than this, and that includes government sites.  But, for the amateur hacker and the peckerwood who hacked us - sorry, kids, you're done.

Finally at 8:30 or so I left the dentist and stopped at the drug store to pick up some Alka Seltzer orange cold medicine and some eye drops for the Vixter who seems to have irriatated her left eye with one of her contatc lenses

my mouth was beginning to lose it's numbness and I became aware that there was a sizable gap between the bottom of the temporary crown and my gum - so back to teh dentist I went - ther to have the crown pried out and then reinserted - this time without a gap.

Also I do not think they normally stay open that late - they were full of emergenices and they had added me in because they needed to redo the impression and then when I came back they wer ready to go home but had to stay to fix my crown

and I fear I have probabaly contaminated them and given them this nasty cold thing thought they all wore masks and glasses and gloves and gowns so maybe they are ok -

I was careful not to try to avoid touching anything in the waiting room - I didn't hang my coat up and I brought my own book

I was busy today and really didn't have a chance to check on the site.  Tonight I got my laptop back.  Absolutely nothing lost!  And as he recovered it he put it on a new external hard drive for me. Actually an internal hard drive in a case- making it a much cheaper external hard drive. Anyway, the registry files were messed up and it took all day but I'm back up and running. I'm very happy.

You are guaranteed to be in the room for the event and don't have to wait in line.  And you get some fun credentials as a souvenier.  Not trying to be political, it's just where I've been and what I've been doing.

On Monday, November 3rd I'm getting the last two of my silver-type fillings replaced (and at the same time).  Hopefully, those will go well.  I've got a week and a half to worry, but I'm not really much of a worrier, so I'm not too worried.

Has anyone let Cilla know things are fine?  And really, let's make up for lost time, shall we?

I was busy today and really didn't have a chance to check on the site.  Tonight I got my laptop back.  Absolutely nothing lost!  And as he recovered it he put it on a new external hard drive for me. Actually an internal hard drive in a case- making it a much cheaper external hard drive. Anyway, the registry files were messed up and it took all day but I'm back up and running. I'm very happy.

Very good news, Cillaliz!

This peculiar series based on Dafoe, CRUSOE, is not something I am warming up to. I hope it doesn't prove the final nail in the coffin for LIFE,which is to me a series NBC is unsure of how to market or promote., damn them all to hell.

NBC is moving LIFE to WEdnesdays at 9. It is also bringing back LAW & ORDER much earlier than they expected to at 10 on Wednesdays. If LIFE is going to make it, this shot on Wednesday is its best chance.

Had a wonderful night of interesting movies and TV shows.

I began with MURDEROUS MAIDS. It's from 2000, and I had never seen it before. A movie about an incestuous obsession, it's definitely not a feel-good movie. Fascinating, of course, and based on a true story. Well made (though the back and forth in time threw me a bit at first), but so far it's my least favorite movie in the RIALTO/Criterion box.

Feeling lousy today.

I'd love to say it's just the depression raising it's ugly tail end again, but I was supposed to be working on billing all day and, instead, I kept getting called down to work a register.

There were times when I'd get no more than five minutes between calls downstairs to do the job I'm supposed to be doing.   :P

Add to that, it was babies crying day today.  (No, Toby, I'm not blaming you.)  One little one would start crying, and then her sibling would start in, and then another kid three lanes over would pick up the chorus.

Have you ever noticed how babies crying never cry in harmony?  What's with that?

Next, I had time to watch the entirety of REAR WINDOW. This is the first DVD issue of it, and it doesn't look great. I'm sure the new Legacy release looks much better, but I'm holding out for REAR WINDOW, VERTIGO, and PSYCHO to be the first three Universal/Hitchcocks released on Blu-ray. There have been no announcements, but I think these will be the first ones they'll consider releasing if they release any at all. If there is no announcement in the next six months or so, this new releases will be reduced in price enough by then to make the double-dip less painful.

GHOST WHISPERER at least had our two lovebirds on a cruise and away from the antique shop. The change of pace was nice, even if the case wasn't nearly as involving as some I've seen on the show. It didn't choke me up at all the way the best stories in this series do.

I got a call tonight from the guy I had talked to about drywalling. He has some time this weekend and wants to do it. I told him that I needed an estimate first.  So I'm calling him when I get home around noon or so and he's coming over. If I like his estimate he'll start immediately.  So, I may get the basement room done this fall after all.  I'm keeping my fingers crossed that his estimate is reasonable.

Relaxing, listening to early Jerry Goldsmith TV music.  In a while, I'll take a look at what I wrote.  And then I have to begin the arduous task of titling the Herrmann tracks for A Christmas Carol - every reference source I have is nothing but confusing, and each source has different titles.

I'll make a bid at getting to Page 12.
I just watched a movie on a dvd.
The movie was called THE THRILL OF IT ALL.
The movie starred the delightful Doris Day and the hunkalicious James Garner.
What I didn't realize until the credits rolled at the start was that Norman Jewison had directed it.
So, in the space of twenty-four hours, I have seen two fine examples of Jewison's prowess as a director.
Yes, I'm one of THOSE people who likes the film of FIDDLER ON THE ROOF.

It's a tedious project.  And despite the instruction manual, I still cannot figure out how to edit the DVD+RW after a recording.

I do what the book tells me, but some instruction or other is missing.

I'm afraid of that.  It was tedious enough years ago dubbing one video clip onto another.
