Well, you've read the notes, the notes were sleepy, and now it is time for you to post until the sleeping cows come home.

Well, I must get some sleep or I won't be rested enough to drive to Seattle from Olympia. Good night, BK.

I do wish someone had reminded me that we had an important haineshisway.com anniversary back on November 9th - the anniversary of the beginning of this here site, back in 2001. Which means we're entering our what, eighth year? What a ride it's been. I don't think there's ever been a daily blog of the length I write done every day for seven complete years, with never a day missed. I think someone should nominate that for the Guiness Book Of World Records or something. We've had wonderful get-togethers, have been through horrible evil and pointless lawsuits, show openings, CD recordings, eight books, deaths, births, weddings, good times and bum times, I've seen 'em all and my dear - we're still here. So my free for all topic is favorite moments of the last seven years on this here site. And a very happy belated haineshisway.com anniversary.

Question for our Reviewers:
Have any of you gotten the new Upstairs, Downstairs DVD set that was just released>
I saw it on the DDD site and am tempted to ask Vixdad to buy it for me - with 68 hours of viewing I figured it would help time pass -
I only have a vaugue recollection of the series when it was shown on PBS inthe 70's but I remember how well received it was --- I would hate to waste that amount of money on it if it has not held up well over the years or if the production levels are terrible -
thanks!!

NO GOOD DEED GOES UNPUNISHED!
VARIETY (http://www.variety.com/article/VR1117995767.html?categoryid=13&cs=1&nid=2564)
Academy disqualifies 'Dark' score
The score for "The Dark Knight" has been disqualified by the executive committee of the Academy music branch.
Formal letters to that effect are expected to go out this week to composers Hans Zimmer and James Newton Howard, who collaborated on the music.
Their previous collaboration, on "Batman Begins," was similarly disqualified in 2005.
Sources inside the committee said that the big issue was the fact that five names were listed as composers on the music cue sheet, the official studio document that specifies every piece of music (along with its duration and copyright owner) in the film.
Zimmer said, in an interview with Variety prior to this week's Acad action, that listing multiple names on the cue sheet was a way of financially rewarding parts of the music team who helped make the overall work successful. (Performing-rights societies like ASCAP and BMI use the cue sheet to distribute royalties to composers.)
Zimmer, Howard and the other three individuals -- music editor Alex Gibson, ambient music designer Mel Wesson and composer Lorne Balfe -- reportedly signed an affidavit stating that the score was primarily the work of Zimmer and Howard.

Good morning, all! In a little more than an hour I will meet DR Ben at Penn Station for our trek to the Princeton Record Exchange. I haven't been there in over ten years, and I am looking forward to the trip and to the company of our DR Ben.
On my way back today, I will stop at Staples and (hopefully) pick up a couple more storage boxes to finish this job.
DR vixmom, about two years ago I went on an UPSTAIRS DOWNSTAIRS kick and watched the entire series. I had seen it only on occasion in the 1970s, and I had a great time watching the entire saga. I think the story, both from a family chronicle and a time capsule of history, holds up quite well, and it was great to see the several episodes not shown in the USA because of the "adult" content.
I'm not sure I'd want to own it, but I certainly recommend it.
!!!!SPOILER ALERT!!!!
Last night I watched ACCIDENTAL FRIENDSHIP, written and co-produced (I believe) by our former DR Panni. I liked the cast, and it was great to see Ben Vereen, but I think I'm too close to the harsher realities of the homeless that I couldn't buy the film's premise, even though I applaud the motives behind the production.
Around 1981, I was walking back from lunch break to Patelson's Music, feeling very good about the trip and a purchase, only to be punched in the face by a homeless man who clearly didn't like the smile on my face. I went back to work with a bloody nose and a bloody shirt. I've seen too many homeless men and women, who shouldn't be seen naked, dropping trou for a public demonstration of urination and worse, and I've been on too many subway cars, as well as when I was working at Barnes and Noble, to know that the homeless are in dire need of a bath, deodorant, and delicing. The Catholic church across from me has a daily soup kitchen in the morning and I've found the homeless who line up - and fight - around 7 am for coffee and a sandwich, sleeping in my lobby, using the incinerator closet for a toilet, and dealing drugs.
So I had a hard time buying the premise of this lady cop with her own issues getting too close to a homeless woman and befriending her and her dogs; I certainly wouldn't take the animals home before bathing them and giving them flea and tick collars! As I said, I thought the motives behind the story - redemption, reclaiming one's life, helping others - were all good, important, and well-handled, I couldn't buy the premise and I didn't enjoy it as much as I wanted to.

How is Dr Kerry's marmalade kitten this morning?

I went to a birthday party/BBQ for two friends last night and met some very nice people. Once everyone got involved watching whatever sport was on TV (football, I think), I played with the kids (a 4 year old and a 2 year old), but mostly I got to sit on the floor and visit with two very sweet dogs. This party was out in the middle of nowhere (to me anyway), but it was a lovely evening. Beautiful temperatures .... and dogs. What more could you want?
-
Vibes to all. It's a lovely day, so savor it.
-
Sunday morning greetings! DH Richard's cough is still bothersome, so we're both skipping church for the second week in a row. He's still asleep in the recliner and I'm enjoying some quiet coffee/computer time.
I'm going to lunch and to a knitting fair with a friend from work today.
Vibes to BK for a non-annoying (or non-existent) phone call!
-
Skipping church two weeks in a row? DR GINNY you'd better hope this is not the week they give out the Get Into Heaven Free cards.....
-
DR JRand - ;D
-
Well, today I get to hear about how everything went last week while most of the people-in-charge were out of town at the conference.
-
Let's see, DD SHEENA has a new turkey friend to play with.
DR DAKOTA CELT is a confirmed Flatt & Scruggs fan.
MR BK's telephone call didn't come.
DR SINGDAW attended a fine wedding ceremony yesterday....but took no pictures.
And we had a past due anniversary notice.
Well...my favorite things on HHW besides the very funny random things that suddenly pop up - are all the photos: nature, pets, baby, and family.....
I also like reading all about the theatre and film and concerts everyone sees and likes or doesn't!
And of course our Tony and Academy Awards nights - both of which are more fun than any actual PARTY for either event I ever attended.
-
Well, today I get to hear about how everything went last week while most of the people-in-charge were out of town at the conference.
That sounds like an earful.
-
It will be.

The temperature was in the mid 30's today, but the way everyone was bundled up in coats, hats, mufflers, and gloves, I thought it must be at least in the teens!
-
And the word of the day is: HERMENEUTIC!
And The Song Of The Day Is: THE COVENANT
-
Good Morning!
I'm up, I'm up... And I'm actually wide awake after getting only about three hours of sleep.
After "SNL", two of the roomies wanted to watch a movie, "The Strangers". It was an OK thriller, terror, horror movie. Alas, the music scoring was done a little too well, so none of the "shocks" really shocked me. -And the ending was a big question mark for me - but, apparently, it was meant to be that way. -However, the leading man was very attractive. ;)
Then Jim came home from his party, and since he had missed "SNL", we watched some of the skits courtesy of the "DVR". At that point, everyone in the apartment was wide awake (again), myself included, so we cleared an "Ellen" or two and a "Chelsea Lately" off the DVR too. Then as I was getting ready for bed, I decided to listen to the OCR of Three Guys Naked from the Waist Down - which I don't think I had listened to since I had worked on a production oh so many years ago. Then I was in the mood for some Mozart... Then some Debussy... The WQXR was playing some really interesting piano music...
But, again... I'm up, I'm up....
-
*And, yes, the coffee just finished brewing.
-
DR JOSE I cannot get the video of the "dance" out of my head.....
-
DR JOSE I cannot get the video of the "dance" out of my head.....
Well, I guess you can now include on you list of "HHW Favorite Things". ;)
-
DR George - If you happen to stagedoor this afternoon for The Drowsy Chaperone, please give my best to Peter Riopelle. He and his (twin) brother are playing the twins. :)
*And I think the tour - at least the Equity portion of it - closes down this weekend too - or possibly next weekend.
-
In other news...
Since I'm already up and about... And since it looks like a glorious Fall day outside.. I think I'm going to go ahead and get ready for the rest of my day. This coming week is going to consist of a lot of "inside time", so might as well take advantage of the sunshine.
Laters...

Good morning. I need coffee. That is all.

It was snowing earlier here in SW Ohio.
-
Good Morning!
True to the forecast, our balmy Saturday turned into a cold (but beautifully clear) Sunday. The heat has popped on a couple of times this morning, but the sky is cloudless and simply breathtaking.
-
I see snow flurries.
-
I will be hunkering down with more STAR TREK episodes this afternoon. Since I've only watched 8 of them, there are 16 more to go plus an entire disc of bonus features, so I don't anticipate finishing the set until Tuesday night.
-
I'll likely watch THE SHIELD while I cook and eat lunch. I also still have SMALLVILLE on the DVR that I haven't gotten to yet.
-
...Or I could just head out in an hour with my roommates for brunch... :)
-
In the meantime...
I guess he'll just have to settle for the weekly Presidential addresses on YouTube:

Updating the story of Annie:
We kept her locked out of the bedroom last night and, except for a couple of sad Meows early on, we never heard a peep (i..e. a Meow) from her until around 5:30.
That only lasted a couple of minutes, then around 6:30 we got up and fed her.
Maybe in another day or two, the situation will be rectified.
Fingers-crossed.
Thanks for all the suggestions.
:)

Heading down now to get laundry sorted for washing this afternoon, and then I'll start thinking about what's for lunch.
WBBL.
-
I'm up. I would say the sky is blue, but to the north and to the west the sky is a little brown, presumably from the fires in Sylmar. I lived in Sylmar in 1970 with my ex-wife's parents - their home was newly-built, part of a tract house area of very nice houses. It's where my darling daughter spent her first eight months. I cannot imagine that house survived this fire.
-
Good morning all.
I spent this morning unpacking. A bit late, I know, but it really was the first chance I had. I'm washing the clothes I wore as we speak.
Glad to hear that things are settling down for DC Annie.
-
DR Danise - I either unpack the day I get back from a trip, or I "wait" a week too. Sometimes it just works out that way. ;)
-
Isn't it hard to believe that it was 2005 when some of us met in NYC? My how time does fly!

For those DRs who happen to be FB-ers too - on Facebook that is...
There seems to be some "hack" going around. Do not click on any links that say that your photo has been posted "all over" some other website. It's all spyware, malware.
It may be a good day to change your password(s).

It's the worst part of the trip--the packing and the unpacking. The before worry that your forgetting something and the after means your trip is well and truly over.

The friend who's accompanying me to the knitting fair is due within the hour. Before that, I must rearrange our freezer to make room for the turkey that Rob and Mary Linda are bringing back from her parents' farm in Michigan this afternoon.

Laters all! Have a wonderful day!

I have my laundry in the washer.
I have running around to do today for a cousin's baby shower (yesterday we made a huge pan of stuffed cabbages for her).
After all of that, my accompanist Matt is coming over for the first time in at least five weeks - shows (for him) and that nasty cold for me) have not allowed us to get together for a 'songfest.'
Of course, it is also good teevee night.

Nope, the Hallmark Channel.
-
DR elmore, regarding ACCIDENTAL FRIENDSHIP.... I too would have found difficulty buying the premise except for the fact it is a true story.
There are so many young homeless people in our small town I would like to think I could be so noble. The most I do is carry dog treats. While many of the dogs purpose seem to be to help the person beg, others are obviously loved & cared for as best as possible.
I do feel for you with what you have to deal with.

Good morning all. I'm up, enjoying some breakfast and listening to DR Jed watch football. Toby is having his morning snooze on my arm. It is very foggy here this morning. We heard the fog horns going off for the ferries early this morning.

I do not get the Hallmark Channel unfortunately - maybe it will soon be available on DVD so I can get it from Blockbuster online
-
Eight years, I cannot believe it. I've been around for about seven of those years, thanks to DH Jed telling me about it.
Let's see, favorite memories -
In general, watching the site go from the old-old comments on the notes page to this whole sophisticated set-up.
The old chat nights. I miss those, they were fun.
Seeing TCB in Oliver, meeting him for the first time, and realizing he must be Jed's long lost father.
Meeting our dear Aussie boys, showing them Seattle, and watching Colin's face at dinner when I was served the most obscenely huge piece of chocolate cake on the face of this earth. It took me four days to eat.
-
Well we are back from Church - teh Vixter sang beautifully - I pronouceed almost all of the words in the two Lessons properly and avoided tripping on the way up and down the pulpit so all in all we are proud of ourselves
It was a bit of an emotional time since I was serving the coffee between services today - I havce beena member of this church since 1966 - there are elderly member who have known me since I was a little girl and there are members my age who I have grown up with and since I have taught Sunday School preschool, kindergarten and first grade classes for the past 20years there are few "kids" 25 or udner that I haven't taught -
the news has spread and the outpouring of support and help has been overwhelming - I am truly blessed
-
I must run now since I am having my hair done -- I want to get a decent family portrait before it all falls out
:D
-
DR Vixmom, you are blessed. Your story brought tears to my eyes.

"Based on a true story" is one of the most overused lines in TV movie history - who knows how true the story was/is?
This is not exactly new - Anna wrote this for Lifetime years ago (maybe five?) - it sat there like so much fish, then went elsewhere, and ended up at Hallmark this year.
-
Back from the long jog. I had an e-mail from the person who's supposedly calling - he hasn't found what he needed to find, so he says we still need to talk. I e-mailed back and told him what he needed to find was somewhere in his office and that I wished he'd dig a little deeper and find it. The conversation could be about more than finding this thing, which is why I need the vibes and xylophones - and I sort of resent that if he can't find what is clearly there somewhere, it's going to be on me to go deal with it. I'm really annoyed about it, actually.

"During a similar hiatus before the marriage she [Donna McKechnie] had flown to Londond, where he [Michael Bennett] was in the midst of a fierce squabble with British Equity over the West End CHORUS LINE.
"The squabble had them headlined in the Fleet Street tabloids. It also deepened Michael Bennett's paranoia, blackened his Malta tours.
At issue was the casting of elfin (the 41 -one year old) Elizabeth Seal, whom Bennett found unacceptable as Cassie. Elizabeth Sael had been a hit in London in 1958 as the only female in the cast of IRMA la DOUCE, a hit she duplicated on Broadway two years later. But she was not up to Bennett's standard. She didn't ahve the grace or stamina for the 'Music and the Mirror' number. She was nothing like Donna McKechnie, his 'favorite instrument.'
"Michael Bennet fired Elizabeth Seal, who suddenly emerged as both the darling of the London theater scene and an endangered species. Bennett hired a Lithuanian dancer named Petra Siniawaski."
I guess there was a big Equity flap when Donna came over to train Petra.....this may have been covered better in other books on Bennett or ACL.

"Based on a true story" is one of the most overused lines in TV movie history - who knows how true the story was/is?
This is not exactly new - Anna wrote this for Lifetime years ago (maybe five?) - it sat there like so much fish, then went elsewhere, and ended up at Hallmark this year.
And after all these years the women are still friends. There must be a good amount of truth in the story.

I have no problem enjoying a movie like ACCIDENTAL FRIENDSHIP. I am completely able to suspend disbelief when watching just about any type of movie, and particularly "feel good" movies, which are my favorite!
I am not one that demands "reality" from the films I watch...what's the point. They are telling a story. It does not have to be real. The gripe I always hear from people who don't like old classic movies is because they aren't "real" enough. I say hogwash to that.
-
Kudos to Panni for finally getting her piece produced. "It's not where you start...."
-
I watched part of an episode of THE REAL HOUSEWIVES OF ATLANTA.....it was even more horrible than DR ELMORE has said.
I do not understand these shows that have NO point except to show the vacuous lives of people who in any other culture would not be a role model for anybody....I.E. - THE HILLS, THE REAL WORLD, THE REAL WIVES OF....., and many others.
At least SURVIVOR, AMAZING RACE, and even PROJECT RUNWAY have a reason....someone gets some fame and money for doing something....not just existing.
-
Hogwash.....isn't that where Harry Potter goes to school?
DR VIXTER.....I am afraid I have no names to offer......
-
;) that's alright. I'll figure out somthing... I hope... ???
And he goes to Hogwarts.
-
Some long telephone conversations interrupted my afternoon a couple of times today. Always enjoy talking to friends even when I get behind with work.
-
I did get THE SHIELD watched, and with only two more episodes left, the noose is tightening around the necks of several kep players. I am REALLY going to miss this show when it's gone.
-
I did get 3 1/3 episodes of STAR TREK watched. My favorite of the three had the always terrific Michael Dunn living in a Utopian society where people had telekenetic powers. Barbara Babcock was also a guest star in that episode.
-
These remasterings really do look sensational (for the most part). There will be an occasional shot that obviously they couldn't match to the rest of the footage, but otherwise, the aspect ratio is the only thing that gives away that these shows aren't being made now. (Well, and the what seems now to be lethargic pacing of a different era of TV production.)
-
Back from a loverly visit and trek with our DR Ben to the wilds of New Jerseyin searchof that Shangri-la, the Princeton Record Exchange. As with all good flea markets, the product is only as good as what's there, so I found none of what I was hoping to find for Chridtmas gifts, but I did find for myself a couple of operas and a DVD of Jack Benny's TO BE OR NOT TO BE.
After parting with DR Ben at Penn Station I walked up 8th Avenue to Staples and purchased 4 more storage boxes. Genug ist genug!
-
On TV Tonight!™
ABC - EXTREME HOME MAKEOVER, DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES, BROTHERS & SISTERS
CBS - AMAZING RACE, COLD CASE, THE UNIT
NBC - NFL Football (Cowboys Vs. Redskins)
HBO - TRUE BLOOD
SHO - DEXTER, BROTHERHOOD
-

I've been watching Route 66. I'm trying to figure out exactly when Mr. Maharis disappeared from the show. I'd skipped to the final disc to watch the LA episodes - he does not appear in any of them. In the first two they explain his absence in a one-sided phone call with Milner - some kind of mysterious virus. They drop that pretense in the final two episodes and just don't mention him, although he has full billing in his usual position.
-
Re the Panni movie - it's always fascinating watching the trajectory of these things - I'm sure it was a good script when she wrote it and I'm sure it's the same good script now - it's just the five years where these idiotic studios don't know what they have and play these ridiculous games. I'm glad it finally got made and am looking forward to seeing it.

At long last - page five.

Rather pathetic to just be getting to page five.

Wasn't (I think) Jean Pierre Aumont's wife Sabine somehow connected with the Cassie flack with London Cast? Did she come before or after Donna McKechinie.

My friend and I had a delightful afternoon, lunching at Java Johnny's and then visiting the knitting fair at a nearby church. She's an experienced knitter who visited the "Help with Problems" table after parking me at the "Learn to Knit" table. I used to know how to knit, but had forgotten a lot. My teacher was a longtime friend of my dear late mother-in-law. I saw many older women with whom I've lost contact during my 11+ years of working out of town.

Wasn't the official word that he caught hepatitis or something like that? But I heard something more of a personal nature was the cause for his departure. (i.e. contract morality clause)

At least it got made. So many movies have been caught in "development hell" and despite countless script being written it never goes into production. I remember reading an article years ago about writers who made a living with the scripts in development hell and never being made. One of them if memory serves me was Robert Towne (Chinatown)

Good morning all. I'm up, enjoying some breakfast and listening to DR Jed watch football. Toby is having his morning snooze on my arm. It is very foggy here this morning. We heard the fog horns going off for the ferries early this morning.

I finished the British movie RING OF BRIGHT WATER. It is about a Londoner who tires of his life in the city, buys a pet otter and moves to a run down cottage on the coast.
It was a beautiful movie. It has the same cast and is by the makers of BORN FREE. I am suprised I had never heard of it nor seen it before.

I tried to watch a 1952 Turkish movie titled TARZAN ISTANBULDA. I have tried on several occasions to watch old Turkish movies, but they all end up looking like they were filmed by school kids with an 8mm camera. They make very little sense. This film was made even worse by having the subitles off by about 10 seconds. It was too annoying.
If they had stuck some musical numbers in I might have been able to tolerate it.

So I think I will watch something India or Chinese. I think I have a Roy Chiao movie I have not even opened yet. I have been neglecting my films from Hong Kong.

Straight from the horse's mouth - Mr. Maharis says:
As for why he left “Route 66,” Maharis emphatically said it wasn’t because of demands for more money, or that he was trying to break his contract so he could get into movies. It was, he said, because of hepatitis problems starting in 1962.
Maharis was hospitalized for a month and missed several episodes because of the disease. He returned to the set and its 12- to 15-hour days. A few weeks after a grueling scene where he rescued a woman from a near-freezing creek, Maharis suffered a relapse.
“The doctor said, ‘If you don’t get out now, you’re either going to be dead, or you’re going to have permanent liver damage,’” Maharis recalled.
“I wasn’t interested in leaving the show. I enjoyed it; I was having a good time. It probably could have gone two or three more years, and I think they even had plans of taking the show to Europe. That’s what they talked about, anyway, and I would have looked forward to that.
“I was trying to recuperate, and there was all the crap going on about how I wanted more money. It was all garbage. Some people even tried to make it like I never had hepatitis at all. But it’s all in the doctor’s reports.
“I was just ill. It took me 2 1/2, three years to recuperate before I started working again. What should have happened, I guess, was that I should have worked only a couple of hours a day.”

This afternoon I bought a new pair of jeans. I've spent the time since I bought said pair of jeans looking up good workout videos to go with my new exercise ball. You can guess how depressing the jeans shopping experience was.

Re George Maharis:
It was very sad that even as a junior high school student in Tacoma Washington, we heard all the nasty rumors about Mr. Maharis being caught in a gas station restroom. Perhaps the sad thing is that as junior high school students, we understood what that was supposed to mean.

That's the story I remember, too, MR BK.....DR MS is correct.
It seems that the last Buz episode was broadcast on January 18, 1963, and Linc Case joined the show with the March 22, 1963, episode.

Had an e-mail from former dear reader and current writer Panni to tell me that the script for the Hallmark show was much changed (she feels for the better) than the original version for Lifetime, and that in this particular case that it really is mostly based on a true story (and she agrees with me that most of these TV movies/movies that use the line Based On A True Story are usually not).

I think I may have confused the Geroge Maharis discussion by including the phrase about being caught in a gas station rest room, which I rmember happened in the 70s. It was basically just conversation about Mr. Maharis having sex with another man, that I remember being discussed when I was in junior high school (which I wish had been in the 70s).

Sorry I could be no help about CATCHER IN THE RYE. I read the book over 40 years ago and have no memory of it. Though many of my contemporaries were changed forever by it, it left me cold and I've rarely thought of it again after all these years.
-
I watched about five more episodes of STAR TREK. I have 8 more episodes to go.
The most famous of the ones I watched tonight was the one about racial prejudice that co-starred Frank Gorshin and Lou Antonio as black-white men who were sworn enemies of each other.
-
Looks like either Shatner was exerting his control or the writers just thought they needed to involve Kirk with lots of ladies, but every other show, Kirk is making out with some gorgeous babe. He also (a la Robert Conrad) doffs his shirt quite often this last season.
-
With that many episodes left AND a disc of bonus features, I definitely won't finish the show until Tuesday.
-
TRUE BLOOD just superb tonight.
Poor Jason: the quintessential dumb blond.
Sam looking sexier than ever tonight.
Not smart of Sookie to chase off both men who want to protect her.
-
DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES. Very entertaining episode tonight. Susan's storyline still irritated me a lot, but all the others were really interesting and involving.
-
I saw the first 25 minutes of BROTHERS & SISTERS. Dave Foley as a match for Uncle Sol? Bring back Michael Nouri for goodness sakes!
-
I'm going to head downstairs now to bed.
Good night!
-
Good Evening!
It's been a long day, but it's been a very, very good one. One of those days where everything just seemed to align. :)
-
What the HELL is Slumdog Millionaire?
Well, if you had the read the posts from last night, you would know. ;)
Otherwise, it really is a wonderful movie. It's the first movie that actually made my heart race with anticipation and excitement. -And it's the first movie in a long where the whole theatre just got sucked into the world the director - Danny Boyle - created. We all cheered at the end. Twice!
-
Oh, my - Rob and Mary Linda just arrived from Michigan with a 28 (count 'em, 28) pound turkey that's now occupying our freezer. Apparently, it was walking around her parents' farm as recently as 2 weeks ago.
Boy! How long does THAT have to cook??
My first concern is how long will it take to THAW???
...And are you going to brine it?
Then deep-fry it?
;D
-
DR vixmom - :)
*That's really all I can "say" right now (before I start crying again). ;)
-
"Based on a true story" is one of the most overused lines in TV movie history - who knows how true the story was/is?
This is not exactly new - Anna wrote this for Lifetime years ago (maybe five?) - it sat there like so much fish, then went elsewhere, and ended up at Hallmark this year.
I don't understand how when the screenplay was written, makes the film any less moving or effective? I truly enjoyed it.
Exacty! -There are too many people dropping too many projects just because things don't happen "immediately". The nature of the biz nowadays is "time". Take it. Use it.
-
bk - I'm glad the phone call turned out to be not what you thought it was going to be. -I think I got that right. ;)
-
DR MBarnum - See "Slumdog Millionaire". And get the soundtrack too. It's a great mix of the current Indian music scene.
-
DR MBarnum - I keep meaning to ask you: Have you ever thought of taking language classes/lessons in Hindi? Pakistani? Chinese? etc.
-
I set my DVR to record ACCIDENTAL FRIENDSHIP next time it is on.
-
Jane - the Vixter was overstressing abou the assignment (misplaced stress IMHO) and she has a week to complete it so I made her take a break and start fresh tomorrow _ I will show her you email in the morning
The problem is that she READS; she doesn't watch all the TV and go the the "teen movies" (although she is looking forward to Twilight) so she is not aware of current actors in the right age brackets
DR the vixter - All the "teen actors" I would recommend are no longer teens - and/or can no longer play teens. -The first thing that popped into my head was the cast of "The Outsiders". But it looks like some other suggestions dropped in your lap already. Guess I'll have to get my cookie elsewhere.
-
Got really emotionally interested and involved in the story presented in the revised PAL JOEY, but - no spoilers here - by the end, the much-discussed gay-related subplot makes a character or two seem horribly unsympathetic in a way that I can't believe the original authors intended. Not sure how I feel about that.

Kevin Kelly wrote in ONE SINGULAR SENSATION:
Wasn't (I think) Jean Pierre Aumont's wife Sabine somehow connected with the Cassie flack with London Cast? Did she come before or after Donna McKechinie.
Well... If you want the real story... Just make a trip to New York City, and we'll all go out for Korean BBQ with Baayork Lee. ;)
-
I'm sorry I have no suggestions for you, Vixter, as I have never read "Catcher in the Rye."
And now I am sad...er
I'm not. I did not like the book. My younger son loved it. I will call him & see if he has any suggestions.
I didn't really like the book until I had read for the third of fifth time... When I was in my 30s.
-
I am very sad that "The Drowsy Chaperone" never made it to Phoenix on tour. I saw it in NY with my sister and loved it.
I believe once the tour switches over to Non-Equity, it will be playing Phoenix. -And I believe the non-Equity tour launches soon. Very soon.

I would also add that the homeless population in Los Angeles is much different from the homeless population in New York City - at least based on my own personal observations. -And after reading a couple of books such as "The Soloist". The weather plays a major role in both cities. L.A. usually has constant sunshine, and no "real" winter. The survival skills are different from coast to coast.

Oh...
For those DRs who happen to be FB-ers too - on Facebook that is...
There seems to be some "hack" going around. Do not click on any links that say that your photo has been posted "all over" some other website. It's all spyware, malware.
It may be a good day to change your password(s).
If they post Sherlock's puppy photo all over other sites, I guess that is ok ;).
If I do receive a message my photo has been posted on other websites, I can just delete the message & then I can't be hacked-right?
More precisely, if people start telling you that they received posts on their Wall saying that you told them that their pic is being posted on other websites... Then you know you have a problem.

Speaking of sunshine, this video form The Muppet Show is incredibly cute (though the song Helen Reddy sings to the camel is decidedly unromantic :) )

...And I had a wonderful time seeing and hearing my friend, Patrick Carfizzi, and Heidi Grant Murphy in recital at The Morgan Library. It was a truly lovely afternoon of music-making among friends and colleagues. Some Debussy, some Wilder, some Rossini, some Mozart, some John Duke, and some Obradors. A truly wonderfully varied program. -And a very fun, semi-staged encore for both performers.
*It was also nice to get reacquainted with my "Inner Music Geek": I could tell which edition of the Mozart arias the pianist, Kevin Murphy (Heidi's husband), was using according to where the page turns fell. Totally Geeking Out! ;)

Well, they're still in previews, so... -And tonight was only their third or fourth public performance, wasn't it?
-
Jose, I suspect the gay-subplot revisions are essentially there to stay. They are integral to the storyline of the revised book. They didn't veen hint at bothering me until a character or two who are sympathetic in the original are rendered unsympathetic. And as I said, i'm not sure how I feel about drastically altering an audience's perception of a character as sympathetic vs. unsympathetic, and I worry that some people may leave feeling that was O'Hara-Rodgers-Hart's take on the character. This is a different work; it is truly a revisal.
SPOILER
to be specific, using a character's homosexuality as a threat against him seems all out of (the originally written) character for either Vera or Gladys Bumps
-
DR MBarnum - I keep meaning to ask you: Have you ever thought of taking language classes/lessons in Hindi? Pakistani? Chinese? etc.
I have a copy of the Hindi Rosetta Stone. It's quite a lot of fun as well as being education. But, I'm not DR MBarnum. . . .

Yeah... I know what you mean. Especially since I was able to read a copy of the revised script already. :-X

But could you play him on TV? Or would that be Martin Mull?
-
Finished with my viewing - watched three complete Route 66 episodes, a motion picture entitled The Boys In The Band, and two episodes of Cagney and Lacey.
-
WOW!
All Fiction books are "Buy One, Get One 1/2 Price" tomorrow and Tuesday at Border's.
Hmmm..
-
Now I'm listening to a CD of film noir themes. This, I am realizing, is a shameless bootleg, comprised solely of recordings of main titles ripped from DVDs. And they're selling it at Amoeba.

For more on "Slumdog Millionaire"...
From today's Arts & Leisure Section of the NY Times, a background piece on the film and director:
Extreme Mumbai, Without Bollywood’s Filtered Lens (http://www.nytimes.com/2008/11/16/movies/16seng.html?partner=permalink&exprod=permalink)

I'll leave that up to Mr. Mull.
Did any one catch his wonderful performance on LAW & ORDER a few weeks back?
-
I am just saying that when he left ROUTE 66, there were rumors of gay activity. I am not saying these rumors were true, but I am saying that there were rumors back then.
We heard the same rumors in Seattle.
-
We're STILL on page eight?
-
I'm hoping tomorrow stays pretty open. I do have to go get a chart from storage and have it Xeroxed, but that shouldn't take that long, and I think that's all I have to do, other than Bacharach stuff, which is all basically just responding to e-mails.
-
DR MBarnum - I keep meaning to ask you: Have you ever thought of taking language classes/lessons in Hindi? Pakistani? Chinese? etc.
Actually most Hindi movies are really mostly in Urdu (which is what they speak in Pakistan and parts of India), I have found out. I bought a set of "teach yourself Hindi" and I couldn't figure out why nothing sounded familiar. I do know a LOT of Urdu words now, however so that when I find myself watching a non-subtitled Bollywood movie I can sometimes figure out what they are talking about.
Chinese no, but I did study Japanese a bit while in High School...on my own, however, since Phoenix High School (in Phoenix, Oregon) did not have Japanese as one of it's lanquage courses.
The community college in Salem has courses in Arabic, which I keep planning to take, but I am lazy.

OH!
I picked up the new "Howard Sings Ashman" set today at Virgin... I didn't realize the second disc is the complete of the full demo recording of Smile!
-
I should interview George Maharis.
-
He's eighty now. Better move quick.

You mean, the synth orchestrated version with Jodi and Anne Marie Bobby?

I'm not sure. Haven't given it a spin yet... But... Hold on..
It's the first demo - vocals by Howard Ashman and Marvin Hamlisch.

The demo you mentioned is the "demo" that MTI would send out with the rental materials.
