Well, you've read the notes, the notes were sore but hopefully not a bore, and now it is time for you to post until the sore to their core cows come home.

Jose, you're right about the vibe of Blue Chili - tables are also way too close to each other.  But the food was splendidly splendid.

Before I go....TOD

I usually just order Pad Thai. Not very original.

Chinese, I like a wide variety of things...don't know that I have a favorite, it changes by my mood.  Best I've had was in San Francisco, but not sure of the name of the restaurant.

No Cilla, the procedure was not the least bit painful -- it felt a little "weird" and my neck was  a little stiff afterwards because I had to be still for nearly an hour while they set everything up - but I have been told that when we start the treatments it will only take about 15 minutes a day

After the doctor I stopped by the Target to see if they had an advertised special - I was not very hopeful since it was past 1 and doors had opened at 4  or 5 AM - when I gor tehre soem one was puling out from the spot nearest the door and I slipped right in

I went to the proper department and asked for the item and the kid answered:

"If it's not on the floor than we don't have any"

His manager heard his answer and asked what I was looking for and the kid just shrugged

So I spoke up and the manager said  " We have a whole pallet of those!"

He went off and retunred with not only the item but also a shopping cart  - I was in and out in 15 minutes

bk - If you're sore when you get up tomorrow, it probably means that you're "over-exercising" right now and suffering from self-induced exhaustion. -There is such a thing as "too much exercise".

One of the "dangers" of the treadmill is to push yourself and your limits a little faster than one probably should.  If you've never run at that pace before, nor the distance, jump-starting your workout load in the midst of a stressful work-week isn't going to help matters.

Slow down.  Take it easy.

As for the Topic of the Day...

Hmm... Lots of candidates...

However, Prosperity Dumpling down in Chinatown immediately comes to mind.  Five pork-and-chive dumplings (fried) for $1.00.  Soooo good.

*I also ordered a Sesame Pancake filled with Beef - that was $2.50.  Not the prettiest food, but some of the tastiest.

TOD:

The best Chinese food I ever ate was at KIM'S in Medford. My family has eaten there since the 1950s, unfortunately it closed just a couple of years ago.

My favorite dishes at Kim's were Kim's Foo Yung, Pressed Duck (man was that good!), and their Pea Pod Chow Yuk.

DR JOSE - I watched LANTANA on one of the film channels, but I am not sure if it was IFC or SUNDANCE.....and I checked both of their sites and it's not listed on either for the rest of the month....check ON DEMAND and see if it's there.

Barbara Hershey was beautiful.  And Anthony LaPaglia was very effective in his part....as was the whole cast.  Interesting film.

Good morning, all!  I hope to get more work finished on Frank Loesser this morning before goddaughter Charlotte and I run down to the Village to see WERE THE WORLD MINE, a gay indy musical based (sorta) on A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM.  Since I may miss her entirely at Christmas, it will be great to see her today and I am looking forward to it.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0476991/

After that, I may run down to my storage space and lug home a couple of cartons of things; I'm really enjoying the space I now have.

DR Nursie, I think the news about Craig's engagement is fantastic! What's the next step in the international legalities?

I'm up, I'm up, to a whole slew of panic e-mails about our Monday sound check sched.  Not sure why it's the way it is, but it's requiring that we're starting on hour earlier than planned and coming out ten minutes after we should be finished.  We have one less number here than in the benefit last year, and we started a half-hour later last year and finished earlier.  I'm working it out.

Surprise, Surprise.... Not...

Rosie O'Donnell Variety Show Will Not Continue (http://www.playbill.com/news/article/123794.html)

No surprise at all. The show got universal pans and, worst of all as far as NBC is concerned, finished third in the time period behind BONES and the CBS comedies.

After I read three reviews, all of them hating the show and savaging the format, I didn't even watch it, deleting it form my DVR.

I think there is a market for a good variety show with acts people want to see and a host that people find ingratiating. This wasn't it.

The rains came. The cloud cover kept temperatures relatively moderate for late November, but it's a damp, dreary day outside. Rain is supposed to start and stop throughout the day. A good day to be inside.

Tonight on HBO-HD is CHARLIE WILSON'S WAR from last year. I never saw it either in the theater or on DVD/Blu-ray, so I'm looking forward to it. Not sure if I'll watch it "live." Will more likely set the DVR to record it and watch it when I finish THE THIRD MAN on Blu-ray and get things sorted out with some other items.

I'm curious if most people have put up their outdoor Christmas lights yet? (or if others in the neighborhood have).  It's odd but i hardly see any houses here lit up so far. And i'm not sure if it's because it's only snowed once. Or if people just haven't gotten around to it yet.

Also i wonder if more people in the US put up their trees now because of Thanksgiving.

I don't have a tree. But I just can't imagine putting it up so early.

Last night I was reading my niece some books i took out for her from the library. When i was done she asked if i could read one of her books.

So i turned my back to her to find it. I could not find it. But after about 2 minutes i did. And i turned around and she was sleeping!  (she never does this but i guess since she did not take a nap she must have been tired).

TOTD -

For Thai food, I am partial to the classic Pad Thai, which I have had several different places and it's always tasty.  There's a place here in Tacoma called Thai Go (it's a chain, I believe) that not only makes wonderful pad thai, but also Pad Kee Mao that I loooove.  When I was in college I ate there once a week, at least.
Also in Tacoma is my favorite Chinese (Well, American Chinese) food of all time, found at a place called Happy Dragon.  It is their orange chicken.  The orange sauce is rich and dark and there are actual bits of orange peel that help flavor it.  The chicken is fresh and crisply fried..mmm..so good.  I usually have that with some rice, and a small cup of their wonton soup and it's the best meal ever.

Now I want Chinese food...or Thai...

bk - Which Brooklyn Diner will you be supping at?  The one down on 43rd, or the one up on 57th?  They're actually the same "chain", but the one on 57th has a slightly different menu and a more formal feeling to it - and some slightly higher prices to go along with that formality.  But I actually like it better there.  Just sayin'.

It's not that long a walk up to Lincoln Center from 42nd Street.  Well... I guess from your hotel it sort of is.  ;)

As for the Topic of the Day... Part Deux...

As for Thai, I believe my favorite Thai restaurant is Rabieng in Falls Church (Bailey's Crossroads), Virginia.  It is the sister restaurant to Duangrat's (http://www.duangrats.com/index.html) which is just around the corner.  Rabieng started off as a small Thai "supermarket", but eventually became a restaurant. It serves more of the Thai "comfort food" and homestyle dishes, whereas Duangrat's serves more of the "Royal Thai" cuisine.  Both places serve wonderful food, but I'd have to give the edge to Rabieng for the variety of their menu.  However, Duangrat's has a quite nice dining room atmosphere, and their waitresses are dressed in traditional beautiful Thai dresses.

New York City does have it's share of great Thai places too, and to pick a true favorite would require a bit more exploration.  ;)

*Thai Diner Too here in Richmond is surprisingly good too, and it's one of the very few places where when the menu says "Thai Hot" (on a scale of "Mild, Medium, Hot, Thai Hot") you can trust that the heat level will meet - and usually surpass - your liking.  They feature a line of curry dishes where the curry pastes are not tamed by coconut milk - YEOW!!!!!!

Also i wonder if more people in the US put up their trees now because of Thanksgiving.

I don't have a tree. But I just can't imagine putting it up so early.

Traditionally, in the US Christmas decorations go up after Thanksgiving and are down by the second week of Jan. In the good old days, when Christmas Trees were real trees, putting up your tree too early invited a real fire hazard from dried out needles. Our family always put the tree up on Christmas eve, and Santa decorated it over night. Lights are rarely put up before Thanksgiving.

We don't put out any Christmas decorations until after Thanksgiving.  I just now added the Advent wreath to the multitude of angels on the piano.  As I put away autumn items, I'll replace them with Christmas.  I like to let Thanksgiving be its own stand-alone holiday and not get overshadowed by Christmas.

Charlotte and I loved WERE THE WORLD MINE. It suffers a bit from its small budget, but it's truly magical, very funny and endearing. Excellent cast, as well, and the music is quite delightful. Robin Williams' daughter Zelda, whom Charlottw knew from her Shakespeare study in England a few years ago, is quite wonderful.

Evening all.

I didn't do very much today.  Well, to be honest, nothing at all.

I did go to the dog pound to look at some dogs.  I found one that really liked.  A male hound mix that seemed very sweet.  He's brown and white and while I would never choose a dog based on eye color, he even has one full blue eye and the other has a touch of blue in it.

One of the things I do is ask a dog to sit, just to see it they have any kind of training at all.  This one not only sat but also shook hands/paw when I asked him to.  He had gone potty but I noticed it was by the door so I'm thinking he wanted to go out.

I'm honestly thinking about going back and getting him.  The fee is only $75.00 and that includes the surgery to sterilize him or her, the micro chip and the rabies shot.

I saw 3 other dogs that interested me.  A bull terrier (looked like a pure breed) and a lab mix that looked so much like Sheena that it could be her twin.

I would have taken the 3rd dog in a heartbeat but as it was a toy fox terrier, I didn't think it would be fair to him or to Sheena.  He wouldn't be big enough to really play with her without my being afraid he would get hurt.  He looked just like Sunday (the first dog I had when I was growing up).  Sunday lived until I was in High School and this one was only about a year old.

Sadly, there was one dog there that was giving birth.  Everyone was clustered around that cage to see the puppies being born.  It broke my heart because I wonder what kind of chance they have.  How long will the pound allow them live before they are put down?  Mom, too.

If anyone knows where I can get a copy of the CD  soundtrack to "Ladyhawke" , please let me know.  I looked on the usual places, Half.com, eBay and Amazon but they want way to much money for it.

If you happen to come across a reasonable priced copy, please buy it and let me know how much I owe you for it.  I will gladly pay the cost and the shipping.  I only want the CD, not the album (I have that).

Many thanks!

Good Evening!

So... I went to the 4:40pm showing of "The Boy with the Striped Pajamas" at the Westhampton - one of Richmond's remaining classic theatres.  All I really knew about the movie was that it was about the Holocaust, well...  I wasn't really prepared for what it was really about.  I'm still a bit numb, and the movie will most definitely be sticking with me for a while...

"Happy-Go-Lucky", the new Mike Leigh film, was also playing at the Westhampton.  I almost went to see that right after "The Boy with the Striped Pajamas" as a sort of cinematic pick-me-up.  However, I wasn't in the mood to sit for another two hours, so...

*The Westhampton is basically Richmond's "art house" - indie films, film festival favorites, foreign films, etc.  It used to be one theatre, but they closed off the balcony years ago and made that the second theatre in the complex.  Alas, sometimes when there are a glut of good movies out there, they are not able to run some films for more than one week at a time in order to fit them all in.

Now  THAT looks good~!!!!

And it WAS!  :)

*Although, I will say that "cold" muted some of the Chai seasoning in the Chocolate Chai.  However, that made me take my time to savor it.

**And the family that was in front of me in line, well... At least the mother acknowledged that they were taking their time and being sort of a collective pain to the poor clerk, and she let met order ahead of them since they were still making their decisions.  I think the daughter must have asked for samples of at least five different flavors... Twice!  :-\

Watched one mildly OK Bollywood film today...MUJRIM (Criminal) 1958.  Too many plot holes and coincidences...I can suspend disbelief only so far.

No to eat dinner and find something else Hindi to watch.

And yet you have no trouble with people breaking into song and dance?

Just came back from a terrific dinner with my brother, sister-in-law and nephew at Noho Star Restaurant on Bleecker Street.  We happened across it quite by accident, since it was very near the one-person play they are seeing, the 10 pm show of SLEEPWALK WITH ME.

DR Danise, I would'nt worry too much about those puppies...they will be swooped up quickly, they always are at the dog shelters here.

I hope so.  I think there were at least 4 puppies with more coming when I walked away.  It just upset me.

I hate going to the pound.  I hate it more when I walk out without taking an animal with me.  I feel like I let that poor dog down.

I like that title....is it playing anywhere near JUDY AND ME.....are the ME's related in anyway, do you think.  ME is certainly getting to be quite famous.  I think the next big movie will be THE ME IN THE STRIPED PAJAMA.

DR Danise, sounds like you may have found a dog you really like.  He would be very lucky to get to live with you.

I'm just not sure about Sheena, Queen of the House.

Sometimes I look at her and I think she really needs company when I'm work and then I think that maybe she is better off being only dog.

I'm sure Sheena will tell you when she would like some additional company.  :)

That's part of the problem.  I think she is telling me she would like some company.  When I was making the turkey on Thursday, I looked out the window into the back yard and she was just laying in the sun.

I know she wanted someone to play with her.

On the other hand, I know that she is very much an alpha dog. I don't want her to bully any other dog I get.  I just want her to have company and someone to play with- not run roughshod over.

Anyway, I'm going to give it more thought.

And I think I'm going to go to bed as well.  I'm tired.

Have a wonderful evening all!

Had an interesting evening of viewing. I began with THE THIRD MAN in Blu-ray. I just rewatched the regular DVD version a few weeks ago when I reviewed the Rialto Pictures box set from Criterion. The Blu-ray is the same transfer, just with much greater resolution. It looks as wonderful as you might expect, but it's certainly not perfect. Blacks aren't the blackest, and the print they used had a few stray scratches, some water spots, and a thin light gray bar running down the right side of the picture for half a minute or so.

They used uncompressed audio for the soundtrack (at 1.5 Mbps - the highest I've ever seen for a mono track), so it sounds very clear, but, of course, there's still hiss and some light flutter occasionally. But those things fade in the background as you get swept up into the movie.

It's one I NEVER tire of.

I watched a couple more OUR GANG shorts while I was waiting for HBO-HD presentation to start. I finished THE THIRD MAN so I could watch the movie "live."

CHARLIE WILSON'S WAR was interesting with aumising performances from the three stars (I can see why Hoffman got a supporting actor Oscar nomination; his is the best performance in the movie.)

And I had no idea Amy Adams or Denis O'Hare was in the movie, so that also made it worth watching.

Glad I never bought it on DVD or HD, however. I can't imagine wanting to watch it again.

DR George - it always amazes me how [seemingly] short your rehersal period is.  Opening night is always here before you know it.

We open next Friday!! :o

Today, we had a run-through with the band (piano, electric bass, electric guitar and drums) and we had to stop and start several times for tech issues (no big deal).  The sliding platform works and the banister for the stairs was put up.  After the run-through, we put on all the costumes that we had...fortunately, not all at the same time. ;) I still need to bring a couple of shirts from home.  They're going to try to borrow some choir robes from the college or local high schools for "Listen to Jesus, Jimmy" and the reprise, so hopefully, they'll be able to get those in time.  Otherwise, I'm all done with costumes. :)

Back from a VERY long day and evening.  I'll have much to say about South Pacific, and I'd better start the notes so I can start saying it.  Met Adam for dinner at the Brooklyn Diner (on 43rd) and then saw Judy and Me, followed by dessert at Joe Allen.

Is anyone watching (or has anyone watched) Ellen DeGeneres' variety show, "Ellen's Even Bigger, Really Big Show?"

It's described as:  "A Las Vegas variety show includes music, comedy and specialty acts from around the world, including magician Hans Klok."

Good to hear.  I've been there a few times.  Alas, I've always felt that even though the prices are in the "right" range for the neighborhood, they don't necessarily reflect the decor.  But that kitchen does turn out some good eats.

I just read HERE (http://www.comcast.net/articles/entertainment/20081128/Obit.Marand/) that Patricia Marand, Tony nominated actress for playing Lois Lane in the musical, It's a Bird ... It's a Plane ... It's Superman! has died of brain cancer.  She was 74 years old.
