Post by: bk on December 04, 2008, 11:52:17 PM
Well, you've read the notes, the notes were back to normal and there was a part two, and now it is time for you to post until the normally normal cows come home.

Topic of the Day:  not much.  I'm in a show!

But, on my DVR to be watched:  episodes of "Heroes" (4 episodes), "Fringe" (also 4 episodes), "Grey's Anatomy" and "Ugly Betty" (one episode each).  That's a lot of TV watching to ketchup on.

I have two DVDs from Netflix, but I don't know where they are. :-\

CD player:  the Japanese cast recording of Wicked...again. :)

The Olympian, the local newspaper, did a video report of Reefer Madness! The Musical!  Click HERE (http://videos.theolympian.com/vmix_hosted_apps/p/media?id=2468365&item_index=&genre_id=00000560) and scroll to when the time shows about 3 minutes left! :D There may be a 30 second ad before it runs, but you don't have to subscribe.

And speaking of the show that I'm in...last night's final dress rehearsal went very well!  We sold out our actor's benefit preview performance and we each got $30.  Nice!  That means that people donated more than the $5 minimum. :D

DR JOSE GUESSING GAME FROM YESTERDAY

And as for the forthcoming "closing" announcement, well... I'm sorry for dangling that bit of news out there.  I'm also sorry for using the word "closing", since it's not really a closing of a show that is involved.  However, I thought the official press announcement was supposed to occur this afternoon, but it appears that it hasn't, so...

We will all just have to wait.

From BK

the news is everywhere now - just not official.  'll let the word become official, Jose.  It's just been on all the usual sites - as soon as I heard the rumor I looked on the usual sites.  I guess someone talked to someone on the creative team, although I'd first heard about it at the benefit.

From DR JOSE

GREASE?

Wink

That's old news.

*However, there is a connection.

Well, since there's a (slim) chance I'll have a show after January, well...

Good morning, all! I have one drawer to repair (I knew there would be something!), and I'm back to Frank Loesser. At noon, I have physical therapy, and the rest of the day is mine.

DR MBarnum, I understand from Netflix that DOSTANA is out on DVD next week.

Good morning, everyone. I shall post while I have a brief break.

The home sale has become a real roller coaster. The home inspection report was a disaster, with significant inaccuracies and many recommendations quite inappropriate to a historic home. I think DR Edisaurus would agree with me here--you should respect the architectural heritage of a building, rather than apply the standards of NEW construction to it. I'll stop there--believe me, I could go on and on and on. In any case, the buyers have been given some bad information and I'm not at all sure how this will turn out.

I have many personal business items to take care of today--eye exam, new tires for my car, others. Not fun, but necessary.

Very interesting show. Although i am so glad with the result. I was not sure what would happen. I had seen the promo where bob told corinne the story about marcus' idol. I didn't think it could be possible. But the guy who does the previews in the montreal paper implied that it was real (i did not know if he had seen the show or if he was merely guessing).  I think it will be interesting next week. I guess everyone will know that kenny voted for matty to leave. Kenny and crystal sure had an odd plan. I couldn't figure out how it would work (as he was rambling).
He made it clear he would vote for matty and crystal would vote out corinne and that they would smoke out corinne's idol if it was real. What i could not understand is how they planned to do this. But i guess kenny nodding at her furiously at the tribal council was supposed to give her the message. Interesting plan. I'm not sure why they didn't just all vote out matty. I guess they wanted to know if the immunity idol was real or not. Sure glad to see corinne go. Did not like her at all. My favs are sugar and matty. Although i like bob as a person. They need to get him out though because he would have the jury vote.

I'm up, I'm up.  Sun is shining, unlike yesterday, which was very hazy.  Had a call from Mr. Spirtas saying that the fool who videotaped the show for the charity, on direction from the show's producer, only taped each number - not entrances, exits, projections, light cues pre and post number - unbelievable.  Luckily, Adam did tape everything I think, so I'll at least have that.  Then our sound man e-mailed me to tell me his machine had malfunctioned and he only got act one recorded.  Oh, well.

As to dear reader Jeanne's house inspection report - I had the same thing happen and I lost my original buyers.  Funnily, when the second buyers did THEIR inspection report it was a different company and THAT inspection report had none of the problems of the previous report.  Dear reader Jeanne might want to suggest a second report from a different company.

a different company and THAT inspection report had none of the problems of the previous report.

That's a bit disconcerting from a buyer's perspective.  Guess all parties on all sides should be very careful.

More than once we had things missed by our inspector only to be found later by the new buyer's inspector.  You can imagine how frustrating & expensive that was.  Then there were the problems the inspector found, were "corrected" & re-inspected to satisfaction.  Later we had to correct them properly.

Re Vanities - it is vanity to tell untruths in press releases.  They're not being considerate of their investors - they LOST at least one and probably more of their investors - that's the truth.   Frankly, I never believed they were coming in or that they had the money - but the ego of producers these days, the hunger to say you're coming in, is, I suppose, just too great.  I said this to a few people back when it was announced and they said I really didn't know what I was talking about - except that I did - obviously.  Those people, of course, didn't know what THEY were talking about, but like all of those types, they disappear without an apology or even an acknowledgment that they were the ones who were wrong.

Had my brief eleven-thirty meeting, which was brief.  I then did a couple of errands and got some lunch from Gelson's.  I sent a bunch of e-mails and AOL just did something so weird I couldn't believe it.  I tried to send an e-mail response and got a pop up window saying I had to do some sort of "challenge" thing by following a URL, which was not clickable - I cut and pasted it and went and filled in the numbers and letters I saw on my screen and that was that and all is well, but how stupid is AOL?

Hey everyone, just a quick login for Mom, she wants everybody to know that she just got back from the surgery to get the chemo port in, and she's a little tired, but fine, and she'd like to say hi. Also, she's having the stomach tube put in on monday, and she starts chemo on tuesday, so she might miss a couple of days on the site, but during those times, I'm to keep you all posted. She says she will continue to vist the site, so I probably won't be able to, since we only have one computer. So from me, Happy Holidays.

On my own behalf, I'd like to thank everyone who helped me with my Catcher in the Rye report, which went sucsessfully, resulting in a 100. Thanks again!!!  Love you all!!!!!!

(Whew!)

-I'm wondering if the new security measures are related to all the "OpenID" internet updates this past week.  You can now sign into various sights using either your Facebook and/or Google/GMail log-in information - thus, saving you the trouble of having to sign up for new accounts on each website.  -Of course, that ends up linking portions of your account information and your internet browsing "tendencies" to the websites/companies involved.  I guess I like the convenience of that innovation, but I'm not too crazy about the possible security and marketing issues.

House vibes for Jeanne!

So...

I went ahead and swapped out the DSL modem - I had a spare "new" one - and that actually seems to have done the trick, so to speak.  Alas, I think a big part of the problem has to do with the fact the phone/DSL jack is placed right behind a radiator.  I've seemed to notice a pattern that whenever the heat goes on, the internet connection seems to slow down and/or needs to be reset.  I'm wondering if the heat from the radiator is somehow affecting the wires.  -I bet it is.  But since that's how things are set up here, well...  :-\

Okay, I was wrong, BK.  I thought VANITIES was good for, at least, a two-week run.

Well, I installed the new Blue Ray player in the bedroom for a trial run.

Boy - that was a chore! Hook up power cable, hook up HDMI cable, put batteries in remote, put disk in player, turn on enjoy!

I decide to hook it up first in the bedroom because of the ease of installation (the TV jacks are on the front side).

(The TV is is only 720i, but for a 26" set, that's pretty good definition.)

We watched Prince Caspian and it looked great.

(And the previews for Pinocchio look fantastic!)

From The Seattle Times:

Quote
Judge Gives 7 Year Old Right to Decide

Seattle, WA (AP) - A seven-year old boy was at the center of a King County
courtroom drama yesterday when he challenged a court ruling over who should
have custody of him. The boy has a history of being beaten by his parents
and the judge initially awarded custody to his aunt, in keeping with child
custody law and regulation requiring that family unity be maintained to the
highest degree possible.
The boy surprised the court when he proclaimed that his aunt beat him more
than his parents and he adamantly refused to live with her. When the judge
then suggested that he live with his grandparents, the boy cried and said
that they also beat him. After considering the remainder of the immediate
family and learning that domestic violence was apparently a way of life
among them, the judge took the unprecedented step of allowing the boy to
propose who should have custody of him.
After two recesses to check legal references and confer with the child
welfare officials, the judge granted temporary custody to the Seattle
Seahawks, whom the boy firmly believes are not capable of beating anyone.

I began with JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH. Mindless fun that I thoroughly enjoyed. 3-D on TV is never consistently great, but Blu-ray sharpness helps mightily, and I have to admit I dodged a couple of things that were coming right at me. Very effective when it's in focus.

Since JOURNEY was only 90 minutes long, I still had most of the evening, so I watched ALL THIS AND HEAVEN TOO which is almost 2 1/2 hours. A grand, melodramatic weeper from Warners glory days. And that fabulous Max Steiner score is just the best!

Warners didn't use a great print for the transfer, but after a rough opening reel, things started looking much better. Bette Davis can be a grand bitch in some of her films, but she can play sympathetic, too, as she does here and is most effective.

Next, I watched 30 ROCK. It had some OK comedy but wasn't consistently funny.

I skimmed through AS THE WORLD TURNS. No Luke today, but Brian and Luke appeared in the previews for next week. Maybe Monday.

And I ended my evening watching tonight's GHOST WHISPERER. I didn't find the little wishing well girl story all that interesting, but the Melinda-Sam/Jim story is what's intriguing now, wondering what they're eventually going to do with it.

I have a chance to win free laser hair removal.  They guarantee that I will end up looking like this:

Of course, they didn't guarantee which one.      :P

I think you need my advice on this!!!!!

I'm listening to the cast album of the new South Pacific, and must say I'm completely disappointed in it.  It's too small-sounding.  South Pacific is a big show and sounds big in the theater and the CD needed to reflect that.  It sounds too intimate, the huge orchestra doesn't have enough "space" around it and doesn't sound as good as it did in the theater, and the people's voices are too dry and also needed some space around them.  And it's mastered quite badly, so that you set a volume level you think is fine and then it's too loud in the loud bits and too soft in the soft bits, so you have to keep adjusting the volume, which is the worst sin in mastering.

Good Evening!

Well, save for being on AIM via my iPhone, I've almost been Internet-free for the past couple of hours. And I even got three loads of laundry done. And I'm still posting via my iPhone.

It was, has been a bit revealing(?) knowing how frustrated I got earlier. So, tomorrow, I believe will be a museum, movie and music day. I really do need a bit of a technology weaning. But until then...

Goodnight.

Agreed. It's just a bit dry in many respects. Heck, I think the Reba and Stokes live recording sounds better.

*However, the new(est) OCR sounds better via headphones.  -I love my Sennheisers!

In August many vibes were given for my dear friend Sue.  She could use some more right now.  I'm hoping for some much needed good news on Tuesday.

Tonight's official opening night went off without a hitch!  The audience wasn't as large as last night's $5 preview, but they were a great audience.  Malcolm, one of the guys in the show, tutors fellow college math students and three of his students were there and LOVED it. :D

Now that the show is set, I'm really starting to figure out how much time I have between scenes to change costumes without rushing.

That's the best part.  I don't really have any super quick changes, so I can take my time, change my clothes and be where I need to be, when I need to be there and not panic. ;)

Fortunately, I'm able to change in a small room right behind the set.  Only one other person changes there, so it's not crowded at all.
