As promised, I shall now tell you of the new Kritzerland release. This is for dear reader ears only so let's not spread the word, even though some people on the film music site have already guessed what it is. So, I'm very pleased to announce our very cool new limited edition soundtrack release. It's another Bernard Herrmann two-fer and it's a great one - the original soundtrack recordings for:
TWISTED NERVE and THE BRIDE WORE BLACK
Twisted Nerve reunited the stars and director of The Family Way, Hayley Mills and Hywel Bennett, in a nasty little thriller. It features one of Herrmann's most wonderful main title themes, which was appropriated for use in Tarantino's Kill Bill movies, where it became very popular (the whistling theme). The score is pure Herrmann and it's quite wonderful.
The Bride Wore Black was directed by Francois Truffaut (from a novel by Cornell Woolrich), and starred Jeanne Moreau. Again, Herrmann turned in a wonderful score - very Hitchcockian, which is appropriate since Truffaut's film is a homage to Hitch.
Twisted Nerve was released on one side of an LP (the flip side contained Les Reed's score to Les Bicyclettes de Belsize) and The Bride Wore Black (both films came out in 1968) was issued only on a French 45rpm EP. Both instantly went out of print and were impossible to find - both became holy grails for the Herrmann collector. We present both scores in their album presentations. The CD runs thirty-two minutes, but what minutes they are.
Given that our last Herrmann CD sold out in less than 24 hours, we expect this will do the same, so don't miss out. This is limited to 1200 copies only and I can already tell you that at least 900 of them are spoken for from various dealers. But you dear readers get first crack. The special Christmas price is $17.98 (plus 3.75 shipping in the US - 6.50 overseas). To order, simply go to paypal.com and enter our paypal address of kritzerland at adelphia dot net.

Okay, Cat People - how about some breakfast!

Quote from: Michael S on December 14, 2008, 05:18:39 PM
Watched the Dark Knight last night/
People will complain about the smallest things.
Switching from IMAX to the standard size.
I had to point out to the other people who were watching when it happened.
Huh
What happened?
If you had to point it out, then were you the one complaining?
Were you in a theatre?
No I did not complain.
I was reading about on HT Software board.
People complain IMHO about the stupidest things there. As Matt replied yesterday it really is hard to notice the change.
I really enjoyed the film and thought Heath Leger was great!!

Wet Girl was "registered" on 11/14/08 and the others at dates from 11/14 through today, 12/15. I don't know how they are slipping in but it's clear from the names and those Web sites that some of them have posted along with the user name that they are links to porn sites or other sites which most likely distribute porn or spam or viruses. Many of the names have Web sites in Russia. Not to diss all Russians, but Russia and Eastern Europe are both rife with spam bots and worse.
If you go to Member List and click on Date Registered column and then go to Page 11 you will see all these names. The latest member, fkgscspjik, has done some spamming in All Things Nudie. As I said, I don't know how they are slipping in especially because those archives are locked and you shouldn't be able to post but they are doing it.
You might also want to talk to the site host and possibly change your user account information in case they have hacked in to your info.

THE FULLER BRUSH GIRL is on this morning.....Lucille Ball and Eddie Albert.....
-
Good morning, all! Jo's computer is down today so I had to run to the public library before I head over to Miami University for lunch with the theatre students.
Lady M's mother Freda, who was a wonderful lady, died last week, and her funeral was on Friday. Freda, being no fool, made her executors her grandson and granddaughter-in-law instead of Lady M who was expecting to be in charge! She told Jo that Freda wasn't in her right mind. I doubt that.
That's all my dish so far. I"m off to Oxford, OH now.

Good morning, good morning! Yup, it's raining here in sunny LA. Bit of a guilty pleasure for this Seattle gal... makes the air so fresh and BREATHABLE!!! Still, be careful out there, DR's.
I slept so well - off and on for about 12 hours. I've been so exhausted with getting my cousin relocated and settled in and doctored and doing the accounting and finding a groomer for her service dawg and and and... She's mostly taken care of by now - we'll see just how much, on Friday, when the van from the assisted living facility shleps her to and from the doctor (fingers x'd...). So, sleep was so welcome.
And today, I'm doing some work for the theater (great part time job, managing director - hang out with creative types, total up receipts and make any sort of sense of their first year, start planning grant ap's, send out fundraising letters for Year 2, go to plays, ask for dollars for Year 2, deposit a few checks, ask for a few more, keep the checkbook, and request money from potential donors!) And they buy lunch!
This evening I'll work on my Irish accent and study my script for the reading. It's just grand, I tell ya.

Hello, everyone.
Everything here is as crazy as ever.
For those of you who are not burned out on my home sale stories, here is the latest:
The buyers' termite inspection stated there was evidence of active termites near the electrical box in the basement. Last week I had a pest control company give me an estimate to remedy the situation. "That's not termites," said Pest Guy #2, "It's powder-post beetles." Powder-post beetles require different treatment. Not knowing which guy to believe, I called in Pest Guy #3, the Bug Man (that's his company name). He said I have NO active infestation of either pest. Good news, but will anyone believe me/him? Every time my buyers send in an inspector, the inspector I call in disagees with the buyers' guy. This doesn't put me in the best light. I am honestly trying to determine what the story REALLY is, not just shove things under the rug. Oy!

lol.
-
I think it's pretty obvious that most inspectors need to find "something." The ones who don't are probably the only honest ones. How can you remedy when you get different stories from everyone? And your potential buyers are beginning to annoy me - you have the right to question these endless inspector's findings - I had the same thing happen - first inspector found about 10K worth of chimney damage - the whole thing was going to have to be rebuilt - first buyers walked away. Second inspector found NO chimney damage. Second buyers bought.
-

On the subject of cleaning, while Matt and I were cleaning out my basement on Saturday I learned that I have TWO 2-drawer file cabinets (in addition to two 4-drawer cabinets), not just one, as I thought. Apparently, I either didn't notice the second one because of the clutter, or I simply blanked it out. Either way, OY!

I think it's pretty obvious that most inspectors need to find "something."
Someone pointed that out to me a few weeks ago--it made sense--so I deliberately left a couple little things undone. The home inspector didn't find ANY of them. I've always been a believer in home inspections, but these last few weeks have really made me wonder if it's worthwhile. The buyers paid about $700 for their inspection. Perhaps it would have been better to save the money and use it on repairs. Perhaps all homes should be sold as-is.
-
Thanks, Sing and Jack.
-
Last Friday I spoke to the settlement attorney about the conflicting pest reports. She--and she's VERY experienced in real estate law--seemed to think that all I need is a report that says there is no active infestation, so maybe I'm OK. But the buyers are more likely to believe their guy than mine. Maybe it all comes down to credibility.
-
I'm gonna take a break and run some errands. It's a lovely day in the 'hood.

BOY DO YOU NEED THEM!
-
It's not the posts I'm talking about it's the members, although there was one new post in the All Things Nudie board this morning which now seems to be gone. You, as administrator, can (I believe) delete registered members and I think it's clear that those members I listed earlier, except for HHW which Singdaw entered, are not real members but spammers. I don't know that leaving the members will do any harm but since all the other "bad" members were deleted in the first purge, I thought perhaps you would want to purge the small list of new "bad" members.
-
Never mind, I found them and removed them and banned the new people. Bakalor just doesn't respond, and he's the ONLY one who can fix this - I don't have the ability to go in to our settings and make changes. I got a response from the software people about what to do and I forwarded that, but he just doesn't respond to my IMs or e-mails - very frustrating. If he hasn't responded by the end of the day, I'll call him. But I can't keep policing these things every five minutes. I don't see how these incidents can be spambots if they're actually posting. The reason they haven't posted HERE in any of these current threads since we brought the board new software is because he made this so that only I can change the topic - I guess he hasn't done it for the rest of the board.
-
Bruce, those spammers are likely computer generated. So far a new one hasn't set up & our last new member was Aloysius Petrelli (DR Ron) on Oct. 2nd.
Maybe we can all try to pay attention to new members & let you know if they need to be removed.

Typing in two words is hardly an inconvenience. If anything, it will save bk from having to approve or disapprove a whole slew of possible computer-generated spambots.
Even Facebook has instituted "security" controls when people post videos and other links in order to make sure that it's not a truly "viral" video.

I'm referring to the fact they might have to wait all day or night for Bruce to "approve" them. I don't have a better suggestion. I don't know how to leave a nice explanation of there might be a wait if Bruce isn't on the board when they want in to post.

Sorry, Singdaw, but it looks like your HHW member was deleted in the second purge. Perhaps you will want to re-register that nom de plume and see what the new registration process is like.
-
I didn't mean to cause tsuris but I did want to point out "the bad people" (an almost Kriztzerland reference) so they could be removed or banned before they caused us tsuris.

No DR JEANNE....just problems with Broadway musicals made from movies.....
-
I am intrigued and scared about the new 20/20 tonight which is about a production of THE WIZ by a nearly all white high school in Virginia.
I work with so many high school kids during the summer - the good, the bad, and the...well...you know - that I don't know if I want to go through the entire experience in two hours.....
But.....I think I might feel more positive if it wasn't a show with some serious built in problems for this particular venue.....
-
Ah. Good.
-
I shall now leave HHW to the saner DRs.
TTFN.

Oh....nausea just struck....I am not sure of the cause....
-
I didn't mean to cause tsuris but I did want to point out "the bad people" (an almost Kriztzerland reference) so they could be removed or banned before they caused us tsuris.
I'm glad you did.
-
DR JRaqnd- I hate when that happens-hope you feel better soon.
-
Thanks DR JANE.....went as quickly as it came....whew....
-
Did you listen to Beulah again, JRand?
-
DR LAURA.....thanks for reminding me.....that certainly could be the cause.
Thanks, DR derBRUCER.
-
All I can say is, these two Herrmann scores are the berries and if you are at all a fan of his film music, you'll want them. Even if you aren't - by the first of January you'll be able to double your money or more.
-
I approved the new HHW registration.
-
I'm thinking this is a good thing - this having to approve.
-
And I'm sure our real lurkers know they can register and post anytime they like and that they'll all be welcomed with open arms and closed toes.
-
Still very gray out - I'd do the long jog, but I do NOT want to be caught in a sudden downpour. On the other hand, it looks like I'm not doing the shoot this week. David has a doctor thing he now needs to do Thursday morning, so they're either getting another director to do the shoot or postponing it until Friday. Friday doesn't work for me, and I won't work with anyone but David on a hidden camera shoot.
-
I see a new Doris Day box set is coming in April. Among the contents: APRIL IN PARIS, TEA FOR TWO, IT"S A GREAT FEELING, STARLIFT (which I've never seen), THE TUNNEL OF LOVE.
I remember seeing STARLIFT. It's like a THANK YOUR LUCKY STARS/HOLLYWOOD CANTEEN for the Korean War.
Cagney is in it.
Love IT'S A GREAT FEELING and, although I don't think I've ever seen it, APRIL IN PARIS has Ray Bolger...which is always a treat.
Bolger is fine and Day is great as always, but they don't make a very felicitous romantic couple.
-
When the local community theater did THE WIZ back in the 1990s, they used a racially mixed cast. They did have an African-American Dorothy, Evelene, Wiz, and Lion, but many of the other roles were played by Caucasians.
-
I spent most of the afternoon on THE DUCHESS. I enjoyed it very much. I didn't know the story at all, so I had no idea what was going to happen.
Very good transfer, too.
-
I did have time to skim through today's AS THE WORLD TURNS. No Luke, but Brian and Luke were in the previews for tomorrow.
-
When I see Ray Bolger the one thing I never think of is romantic.
-
Good travel wishes to all who are traveling or who are going to be traveling soon.
-
When I see Ray Bolger the one thing I never think of is romantic.
I agree completely. He's completely asexual to me. Talented, can be funny, but not a sexual presence at all.
-
Listening to rainy day music. Even though I didn't have much planned for the day, I, in fact, haven't stopped doing things since I got up. I've gotten all the Twisted Nerve stuff to the web designer, I've done a few errands, paid a couple of bills and cleaned the book room, which now looks lovelier than lovely.
-
I shall now go out and do a couple more errands.
-
Remember when I related the story of the shipment I had that was declared "undeliverable"? Well, I reordered the items on Saturday morning, got the shipping notice Saturday afternoon, and the package arrived today. I think this must have set some sort of record for items ordered and being received via Amazon.
-
OK, afternoon surf completed, and I'll now hop off-line and get some writing done.
WBBL.

DR LAURA.....thanks for reminding me.....that certainly could be the cause.

Hello all you wonderful people out there in the dark
-
today when I was driven home by my Dad from the Chemo (hydration only) process the Vixter newly arrived home form school announced I had received not only lovely than lovely and heartwarming cards from Singdaw, MBarnum and Ginny but also a bouquet of flowers from our very own most gracious and generous Danise
Thank you all so very much.... you are much more generous than I deserve
-
I must go have a lie down befoer I fall down... but first VIBES and PRAYERS for Laura and her sister , TCB and Stan and anyone e;lse what needs 'em
and I think this is Ginny's last day as a productive member of the American Work Force so congratulations Ginny on a well earned retirement!!
-
continued love to you, vixmom
-
DRVixmom, I'm sure you deserve all the goodness you have received. I'm also glad I checked in after my trek through the snow to the mailbox, and before taking Sherlock out for another romp in the snow.
CONTINUED VIBES AS YOU GO THROUGH THIS!
Did you get some new meds to reduce the nausea?
-
Seriously wasn't there a porn star who called himself Ray Bulger?
About 20 years ago, there was on Off Broadway show about a giant tap-dancing gorilla called, "Queen Kong." The object of his adoration was played by an actor named Ray Fay.
-
Good to see vixmom posting!
-
All this and page six, too.
-
DR Vixmom, the only thing that you don't deserve is to be going through all this chemo stuff...Vixmoms should always be healthy, happy, and non nauseous.
-
Did some more errands and got a Subway turkey sandwich, which I just ate. I almost went to run, but glad I didn't as it started to rain. Didn't last long and then the sun actually peeked through, but that was short-lived, too, so no long jog of any kind today. In fact, looking out Ye Olde Windowe, I can see it's still drizzling. Well, we needed the rain.
-
There was a movie titled QUEEN KONG in 1976 also, DR Kerry.
It starred Robin Askwith and Rula Lenska.
-
Does anyone have an opinion of which would be the best filmed version of "Little Women"? It was made --- three times? I would assume the first version with Hepburn (mainly because I have a great deal of difficulty picturing June Allyson and Elizabeth Taylor in it. Is the recent version (as in within the last decade) any good?
Your help is kindly appreciated.
-
It's finally raining-- well more like drizzling.

A local children's summer theater program did The Wiz about 10 years ago. The cast wasn't too racially mixed, because the community isn't. Also, several theater groups have done Once On This Island without many non-caucasians. One children's theater group (different than the one that did The Wiz had NO non-caucasians in the cast...at all! :-\
-
Here is the Twisted Nerve cover.
Love the cover! But shouldn't it be "ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACKS" since there are two different soundtracks on the CD?
Just curious. :)
I was wondering the same thing!
-
I kept it simple - soundtrack takes in everything on the CD - in fact, soundtrackS looked odd to me.
-
I approved the new HHW registration.
And now that you have, I can't remember which date the "birthday" is supposed to be!?!?!
-
which would be the best filmed version of "Little Women"?
"The Women" ;)
-
Good to see vixmom posting!
Yes, indeed!!!! :)

I would say this is the best one. I remember years ago there was a TV mini series with Susan Dey we enjoyed very much. NetFlix has it on two discs.

Maybe that's why they didn't do another picture together.
:)

When I see Ray Bolger the one thing I never think of is romantic.
I wish they'd release his WHERE'S CHARLEY onto DVD. To the best of my knowledge, it's never been available on home video. Legal problems, I guess.
-
Literally fifteen minutes after my last post I looked out the window to see completely blue skies. I found that rather amazing, that in fifteen minutes all those slate gray clouds could disappear without a trace. So, I immediately put on my long jog attire (instead of a t-shirt I wore a sweatshirt) and did the long jog. At the three mile point I looked up to find that the completely blue skies were once again completely slate gray and looking like rain would issue forth at any moment. I put on some speed and made it home without having rain. It still isn't raining but it looks like it's going to.
-
VIXMOM vibes!!
-
I guess MR BK and DR MATTH put it politely....Mr Bolger is for many in the audience lacking in the - to use an old Hollywood term DR DRUXY would know - SA department.
-
Four orders. An all-time low for this here site - lower than Laurette and lower than A Christmas Carol by the same composer. Happily, I don't have to worry about it, as my biggest online dealer just upped his order by 100. At the end of the day I'll probably only have 200 to sell by the time it's announced.
-

The Hepburn is the one I'd watch given a choice of all three theatrical releases, but I am here to tell you that the Winona Ryder/Susan Sarandon one is absolutely SUPERB.
The MGM one is the "lesser" in terms of pacing, IMO, but it's "pretty" and that's a lot of entertainment value, too.
-
LITTLE WOMEN.....the Hepburn-Bennett-Dee version directed by George Cukor is probably my least favorite.....I think the casting of Marmee is crucial, and Spring Byington just doesn't do it for me. As Aunt March, Edna May Oliver, no problem there.
The MGM remake with Taylor-Allyson-O'Brien-Leigh is filmed beautifully and has the divine Mary Astor as Marmee. Lucile Watson is Aunt March - perfectly acceptable.
The 1994 version is okay and has some nice moments. It is very earnest and has Ryder-Alverado-Dunst-Danes who are okay as well. Susan Sarandon as Marmee doesn't have much warmth. But you have Mary Wickes as Aunt March - probably the best of the three. And Christian Bale as Laurie....
I like the MGM one the best. I have NOT read the book (gasp) - so I don't know story wise which one is best....but Mary Astor, Margaret O'Brien, and June Allyson tip the scales for me to MGM.
-

I am currently wrapping oodles and oodles of Hannukah presents. Oy!

It's raining again. Guess I took my window of opportunity and ran with it.
-
Listening to wonderful music - I can't say what, since it's the February Kritzerland release.

What a festive afternoon it was at the Library! My family was there the entire time and there was a steady stream of in-house and external guests for the 2 hours. The food was plentiful and delicious and the desserts were exquisite. When I'm not so tired I'll post some photos.
The newly-appointed Grants Specialist is a very quick study and we are getting along quite well. A week together should be plenty of time and she'll probably be glad to be on her own after Friday. She was able to meet a lot of grantseekers and grantmakers this afternoon and will meet some more nonprofit folks Wednesday when we have a holiday luncheon with the volunteer administrators.
-
Looking forward to the photos, DR GINNY!
-
Funny episode of BIG BANG THEORY.
Is the Jonathon Groff listed as a producer the same Jonathon Groff from SPRING AWAKENING? Don't see how it's possible.....spelling must be different.....

...
and I think this is Ginny's last day as a productive member of the American Work Force so congratulations Ginny on a well earned retirement!!
Thank you, DR Vixmom. Although the par-tay was today, I still have 4 more days to be in the building. How productive they are remains to be seen.
Take care - it was good to see that you were here earlier!
-
Never mind.....different guy! Found him on IMDB......Jeopardy winner, writer for Conan O'Brien etc etc.
-
Driving to and from work was precarious...I hated it! The roads are nothing but sheets of ice....I found only one road that had been sanded, none of the others even though they are all main roads into and out of downtown.
The fastest I drove today was 20 miles an hour.
-
DR Ginny, an entire day of wonderful news! :)
-
Yes, DR Jane, it was a very good day!
-
DR Ginny you are going out in style :)
-
Think I'll have an English muffin and finish this not too good Mod Squad episode. Then I'll have to decide the movie o' the evening.
-
MBarnum, I was very afraid that I would have to drive in the snow in Maine. Luckily, the day of the doctor appointment was just rainy, not icy. I have never driven in snow.

Is DR Ann going to share the health cookie recipe with us??

I got back from Oxford to find Randy and Jo both trying to get her computer in working order. About two hours ago, Randy and I made a trip to Office Depot for a new wireless adaptor and now Jo is back online and here I am.
I had a great day with the theatre students: lunch went from noon to 3:15, with much dish and Q&A, and I think it was a successful day of being the "guest artist," as the director of theatre called me. Tomorrow, depending on the impending snowfall, I will drive back to Miami, visit the library, see what's going on with the collection, and have lunch with the head of Special Collections and the chair of the theatre dept.
I think I'm coming down with a cold.
I agree with DR Ron Pulliam about the last version of LITTLE WOMEN. I grew up watching the 1940s version, but I find the Hepburn version awful because Spring Byington as Marmee is insufferable and coy. If you can find the BBC miniseries, it's funny because every actor has a different American dialect. The actress playing Hannah, as I recall, sounds as though her New England dialect came straight from Atlanta. I mean, it is the Civil War, n'est-ce pas?
-
MBarnum, I was very afraid that I would have to drive in the snow in Maine. Luckily, the day of the doctor appointment was just rainy, not icy. I have never driven in snow.
I remember the first time I drove in the snow. It was pretty scary. You know what, it still is. In fact, the more I have done it the more I know how lucky I have been at times.

I am about 30 minutes (and four commercial break blocks) into 20/20, and it's a pretty good show so far. The kids are interesting and the administrators are not cliches.....
If you are interested in the subject....I think you might like it.

I know I set my DVR to record this, but I hope I also set my DVR to record the NBC shows (I can't remember now :-\) because I'm leaving now to go to my sister's instead of home. I'll help decorate their tree and socialize a bit, but I don't know when I'll be home. Hopefully, they watch "Chuck" and we can all watch it together! ;D
I'm off...until later!
-
Ugh! I don't really want to drive to work in the snow tomorrow.
'night!
-
Good Evening!
-And that's about it for this post.
-
I think after 20/20, I will dig out my VHS copy of THE TWISTED NERVE.
Georgie likes ducks!
-
I would be watching the "20/20" show tonight, but since our DVR is currently taping two other shows right now - "Heroes" and "Prison Break" - well... I'll catch the clips on ABC's website. Although, since I know the school involved and some of the faculty, well...
And "non-traditional" casting for The Wiz and Once On This Island are nothing new. In fact, the authors of Once On This Island came up with a non-ethnic specific version of the show which works very well.
-
Very very cold weather predicted for tonight.

In fact, I would have to say the the Theatre and Drama Departments of most of the high schools in Northern Virginia - especially Fairfax County - are far from being "clichéd" in any way, shape or form. In fact, some of the high schools put on some pretty incredible productions. And since some of the schools have good band and orchestra programs, they usually have full pit orchestras too.
-Which has always made me wonder about the cuts in Arts programs there since those programs seems to be very popular and competitive. If there's a definite interest from the students - and their parents - why would schools cut back on the programs? Yes, they may not bring in the big bucks like football does - even though I'm not sure just how a high school football program brings in the "big bucks" - but I'm sure they break even.
-
Was that a rant? My apologies if that was a rant.
*After a quite enjoyable audition session, I ended up sitting next to a "triangle" of Columbia University students who didn't realize - and/or did not care - just how loud they were "talking", and what they were talking about.

I think that was Strouse and Birkenhead from THE NIGHT THEY RAIDED MINSKY'S

I am truly annoyed and upset that the vocal music director would get up in rehearsal and SING the songs the way she wants them sung....demoralizing the kids who are obviously struggling.

For those DRs who have been looking for a way to save their favorite YouTube videos and audios to their computer...
-When you find a video on YouTube that you like and want to save to your computer, just "navigate" backup to the URL/address line in your browser.
-Add/insert the word "kick" before "youtube".
-Hit return.
-A new screen with a menu and options will appear.

When I see Ray Bolger the one thing I never think of is romantic.
However, when I think of his great nephew, John Bolger....
-
My favorite LITTLE WOMEN is the Hepburn version. The June Allyson version comes next followed by the Ryder version. All three give you the same basic story, and all three have aspects to recommend. If you love the book (as I did), I wouldn't want to miss any of the interpretations.

I had read that tonight's episode was hysterical, so I did get the DVR to record it, and I'll watch it tomorrow while I eat lunch.
-
I began my evening of viewing with the bonus features on THE DUCHESS DVD. There were only three: a making-of documentary that went about 22 minutes, a brief look at the Duchess' actual letters with the book's author and the film's producer, and the costume designer talking about Knightley's elaborate wardrobe for the film.

Next, I watched VANTAGE POINT on Blu-ray. What a whiz-bang, cracking good thriller! At 90 minutes, it didn't rest for a second. It's one of those mosaic-type films where you get little pieces of the puzzle until you finally get the entire story. I really enjoyed it, and the Blu-ray was superb: very sharp with great color, and the Dolby TrueHD really had the windows rattling!
-
Next, in respect for Ray Bolger, I put in THE WIZARD OF OZ and watched beginning with the color portion up to the raid on the castle by the three friends and Toto. I'll likely finish it tomorrow.
-
CHUCK had another terrific episode tonight which makes two weeks in a row they've knocked it out of the park. I do wish this show were more popular. Though NBC did renew the show for the rest of the season, I fear it won't get a season three if the ratings don't pick up.
-
As for HEROES' midseason finale, I found much of it anticlimactic and was just glad for it to be over. I really found much of it a muddle and not very engaging, so I'm hoping the next volume - "Villains" - will be a significent improvement.
-
With no review discs coming in today, looks like I'm going to have another day off tomorrow. Good! I can start wrapping Christmas presents during my afternoon viewing.

LOL, our HIGH temp today was 0 - that's ZERO degrees Fahrenheit

MBarnum, I was very afraid that I would have to drive in the snow in Maine. Luckily, the day of the doctor appointment was just rainy, not icy. I have never driven in snow.
You just slow down and leave lots of room between you and the car in front of you. And you start stopping a long way before the stop sign
I drive that way all the time.

Oh and don't stop going up hill if you can avoid it. Get your speed up at the bottom and pray...I think DR Jane explained that method last night

I very much enjoy all three versions of LITTLE WOMEN, but I guess the June Allyson one is my fave, mostly because it was the first one I saw.

The Little Orange Kitten is now officially a foster kitten.
That looks like a typing class exercise sentence.
The Little Orange Kittem is now ofiicially a foster kitten.

My high school typing teacher, Mrs. Selma Gumnit, is probably feeling a chill up her spine right now.
The scary part is that I did not have to try that hard to make all of those mistakes.
;D
It's also scary that I recall the name of my high school typing teacher.

It went up to 67 here in New Jersey today. I planted some tulip and daffodil bulbs.
-
Tonight I put some corn out for the squirrels and seed out for the birds. I came in the house and looked out to find 3 deer (maybe 4) in my yard eating the corn and the seeds. It was only 6:00 P.M. and I am in town, so i was a bit concerned about them. I knew I've had deer because they've left lots of tracks in the snow, but I didn't expect to see them.
I shut off all the lights and raised the shades and the girls and I watched them until the walked up the hill and behind the neighbors house
-
I don't mind feeding the deer, but good grief, there are a lot of cars around here. I'm afraid they will be hit by a car

Mrs. Zuckerbow.

I took a couple photos. I don't know if they turned out very well. I had to do time exposure so I didn't scare them away. I'll post them later

We don't get them here. I saw one in California last month, though.

I can't believe I have become addicted to SCRAMBLE on Facebook. It took me days to tie DR Sandra, but I finally did it. I must stop playing it every night and do something productive!!
-
To night I watched Truman Capote's A CHRISTMAS MEMORY. I'll take some time in the next dew days to read the actual short story, too. It's fun to hear Capote's voice as you read passages that were lifted directly from the prose to the telemovie script.

I though that SCRAMBLE had been lawsuited away from Facebook this year.

It's there. I just started playing it this week. I wish it had been lawsuited away, lol

It's -5 degrees outside right now. OK, I have to admit...I LOVE winter. I really do. I was smiling all the way home tonight. It doesn't hurt that I now fit into my cool pink down coat with the matching pink hat, scarf and gloves.
-
Just got home from a day at the thee=ayter, then a waltz around Costco - jeez - must be Christmas or something, whatta zoo.... and now I'm stabbing at a costco roasted chicken with a fork - didn't even cut it and put it in a dish - just yanked the top plastic off and started gnawing on whatever the fork hit. Mmmmm....
-
What was confusing was that my high school typing teacher was a graduate student at the college i went to, so it was odd running into a former teacher in a place where she was a fellow student.
-
and now - some water. Then - Two and a Half Men. Merry ho-ho-ho-hummmmmmmm.... (yawwwnnn..)
-
I'm heading downstairs to bed.
Good night!
-
I'm just not in the mood for a motion picture tonight. I got Adam Cates' DVDs of our entire concert, unfortunately except for the two dance numbers, he kept the shot so wide that you can't see anything. Still, I'm going to take his footage and the charity's footage and do some editing.
-
All this and page ten, too.
-
Listening to Georges Delerue's French noir scores - marvelously marvelous.
-
Now I must proof some liner notes. Doug did a great job on the layout.

We braved the icy Portland roads today as we had been given a guest pass to shop at the Nike Employee Store, where everything starts at 50% off and then is often on sale on top of that. So we got the kids a bunch of cool stuff, I got some shorts/tee shirts, Betsy got workout pants, all for a relative pittance. Then on to the memorial service which was very nice as those things go.
Portland is due for two more major snowstorms--one on Wednesday and another on Saturday, so I will be venturing out tomorrow to stock us up on foodstuffs, etc. I fear I may need to cancel my final orchestral-choir rehearsal on Wednesday evening for the upcoming Oratorio, but if it's been snowing all day, I know most everyone wouldn't come anyway. Such is life in the Pacific NW.
-
I saw the Twisted Nerve once (I believe that JRand sent me a copy) and that was enough for me. LOL! I don't recall why I disliked it, however.
I do not remember the music at all, but to answer Ron Pulliam's question, there is most certainly a big market for the music from old horror (and sci fi) films. Vintage horror film fans seem to like the music just as much as they like the movies.
-
I used a Borders 40% off coupon today and got 300 on BD, since it was one of the freebies I got with my HD-DVD player and I liked it so much. It had this weird little sticker on it saying to go to 300theDVD.com for "information on the authorship of the music in this movie." I didn't remember seeing that sticker on the HD-DVD version, so I went to the site and read that evidently WB forgot to credit Elliot Goldenthal, whose score for "Titus" they used. Could this have been a temp track they forgot to replace? Could anyone have been that stupid?
If anyone has any interest, I have a pile of HD-DVDs (including all the Harry Potters) I'll sell for cheap, cheap, cheap.
-
I myself would love to see soundtracks from some of the 1950s Allied Artists and Columbia B films (all genres). That is what I would go for!
Or some more AIP movie music.
-
My S-I-L texted me from New Mexico asking if I could find a nice place to eat in Clinton OK - says he's sick of 'burgers - never thought that would happen. Having suffered pulling his trailer over the Rockies he is now "hill shy". I have tried to explain that unless he wants to drop down to Mississippi and go over thru Atlanta to reach I95 he has to address some hills. Actually, I81 runs through the Shenandoah Valley and is not quite as challenging as crossing the Rockies!

I don't want no more stinkin' storms, DR JMK.

I shall now crawl into bed with the two furry beasts.

You could store them with your BETA videotapes and 8-track casettes.

Umm... Have you ever driven to or from the Greenbrier Resort? ;)

Well, I have some cleaning and organizing I meant to take care of earlier tonight, and since it's now much later than "planned", well...
Goodnight.

I'm really hoping that's not a euphemism. :o

This old High School Typing Teacher appreciates the fact that you remember Names and hopes that many others do also.

No orders from this side of the planet BK. Each to his own but I could not care less about movie scores unless I am watching the movie.
-
I was very aware of the Glass music (??????) for "Notes On a Scandal". For me If I am that aware, then the score to the movie has not achieved its purpose.

So you deem no film score worthy of owning on CD? Seems odd, but I'm jiggy with it.

No - but that's in West VA - over 60 miles west of where he'll be on I81

Would you suggest a different route?

I just watched the Glenn Ford version of CIMARRON.
It's nothing special, except for that sensational land rush scene...shot without the benefit of cgi.
I miss those days...when a cast of thousands meant a cast of thousands.
:(

I do collect songs nominated for Oscars so thus have song related scores. I also have scores from films like "Gosford Park" for which period songs have been used.

*I saw this tip somewhere on the web today. If you go to http://www.kickyoutube.com you will see a "How To" video.
This doesn't work for me. I wonder if it's because I'm still on Windows 2000. I haven't even upgraded to Windows XP. :-\
I go to http://keepvid.com. That works for me.

I went to my sister's house earlier and just visited. My sister and niece were watching "The Holiday (http://www.amazon.com/Holiday-Cameron-Diaz/dp/B000MQC9H4/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1229414111&sr=1-3)" with Cameron Diaz and Kate Winslet. It's a delightful feel-good film. :)
-
Right now, I'm half way through tonight's episode of "Chuck" and they just had the "reveal." So far, it's very good.

And since we're so close...
