Choristers from the Salisbury Cathedral Choir light candles as they leave the vestry to practice ahead of the midnight service that will be held in the Cathedral marking Christmas Eve on December 23, 2008 in Salisbury, England. It will be the 750th year that Christmas has been celebrated in the cathedral after it was dedicated in 1258. It is thought that the foundation of the choir stretches back even further with evidence of the foundation of a song school in Salisbury as early as the 11th century. By Matt Cardy/Getty.

Seems the young squires were in sing school when they should have been out protecting Harold's eye!

How many songs did Singdaw sing when Singdaw sang in song school?

I wanted to like the television series PLEASE DON'T EAT THE DAISIES, but Patricia Crowley wasn't a good choice for the Mom......and she kept calling the kids by their real names instead of their character names in big scenes of chaos.....

This is very nearly, most assuredly, almost absolutely my last 2008 post from Johnston SC.

I'm packed, for the most part, and am trying to relax a bit before we start our drive to Columbia SC.

My aunt either will or won't be coming with us, dependent upon a couple of factors -- the men who will install new blinds (today, tomorrow or ?) and my cousin Rick, the dentist, whom my aunt hopes can see her today or tomorrow for a lost filling.  If neither happens today, she'll ride along.

TRAVEL VIBES appreciated.

Also,

So far so good.  I turned the water on this morning and nothing sounded like it was dripping in the shower area.   I also called the plumber.  He'll come out at 10:00 AM and look at it to see if he needs to send someone out to fix it right away or where we go from here.

DR JMK, The biggest problem with an insert will be that the walls and floor aren't square or level (like the rest of the basement).  It's a shower someone tiled themselves, or they hired a lousy contractor to put it in. I could see putting in some of the premade walls or possibly an insert if there is a way to do it, but first I'm hoping they can save the tile and go in from the wall in the room behind the shower.

TOD

Even though I am a season behind in watching but David Tennant's performance as the Doctor in the Doctor Who series continues to amaze me. The writers have given depth and character and emotion to a character that I felt was lacking in all the incarnations. I am NOT looking forward to his departure and was hoping a healthy pay raise might entice him to stay but that won't happen. :-[

I've been to Fed Ex to drop off the last cartons of work and then to thre bank, the Fed Ex cartons I'm shipping on my own FedEx account are in the car, my carry-on bag is packed and as soon as the laundry dries, I'll be completely ready to leave. Jo got a request from a sick co-worker to come into work today so we said our goodbyes and I said goodbye to Randy on the phone. I hope to leave here around noon, drive to the Miamisburg Fed Ex Center to drop off the cartons I'm shipping to my home, then to Dayton. I have to strop somewhere to fill up the car's gas tank.

I fly from Dayton at 3:15, land in DC around 4:40, wait two hours and fly to LaGuardia. I won't be in the apartment, if all goes well, before 8 pm. It pisses me off to no end that US Air is now discontinuing nonstop flights to Dayton. The whole flight should have taken me 2 hours, not five.

Keep them vibes coming!

Good morning!

It was gray and wet when I woke up and went out to get the newspaper. In the following couple of hours, the clouds have completely left the scene, and it's the most beautiful early spring day (in December) you've ever seen! Wow! I'll be sitting on my side porch waiting for best friend John to pick me up for lunch enjoying the fresh air and sunshine for sure.

DS Betsy watched parts of SOM last night, as she does every time it's broadcast.  My falsetto version of "Climb Ev'ry Mountain" is legend Chez Kauffman.  :)

I, too, am hoping for a ton of late packages to arrive today.  It turns out that the PDX post office couldn't even make it out to the airport to pick up arrivals for almost two weeks, so they're seriously backlogged.  I'm still waiting on THE FILMS OF MICHAEL POWELL, a huge shipment of Brasil CDs from Dusty Groove, and a little troika of jewelry that JR knows about.  :)

We had a little customer service brouhaha last night with Game Crazy.  I knew we had an in-store credit due to a foul up with their computer system.  DS Betsy took the boys to buy them last night of Hannukah gifts and when she came back she said the guy had told her the credit had already been used.  I knew I hadn't been in the store since we got the credit, so I called the guy very politely (no, really) and asked him to look up our records and tell me how it had been used.  The guy went OFF on me (I mean, totally losing it, as only an early 20-something can) and then HUNG UP ON ME!  Bad decision.  :)  I called back, asked for his district manager's number, and HE HUNG UP ON ME AGAIN!  So I simply called another store and got the manager's cell number and called him.  I was fuming by the time this was all over--I believe I may have even channeled BK for a brief shining moment.  :)

Good morning, kidz!

Well, Tuna's birthday party was great!!! There were 14 of us cousins there, and about 50 of the facility residents! She was thrilled to see her friend from Winnemucca. And to finally meet Rikki's daughter in law. Tina had been jumping out of her skin for weeks, waiting for this, and she bounced awake at 5 ayem - shpilkes - and had a long, lovely day.

After I got back from rehab, I took her and her friend to dinner at an amazing new place - a Brazilian steak jernt - Kravings - on Ventura Bl, just a few blocks away. Ohmigosh! The prix fixe dinner is $33.95 - including a vast, brilliant salad/appetizer bar. Then the fun begins - the waiters circulate with all manner of grilled meats on long skewers, with huge carving knives - they stop at one's table, tell about the meat/fish/shrimp/whatever, ask if you'd like some, and carve a portion right there. After two or three minutes, another waiter comes by with another type of meat on another skewer. This goes on until you beg them to stop.

I had a bite of spiced ground lamb, leg of lamb, filet mignon, chicken in tequila and lime, beef in a spicy marinade, some other beef chunk, mahi mahi, and a couple of other meats. I don't eat shrimp, but my companions had grilled giant prawns. It just keeps coming!!

The flan is the flannest flan in the world - a real star. They also have a wow of a tiramisu and a pistachio ice cream served with a whole spiced pear. Extensive, gorgeous, eclectic wine list. They also have a lounge with live music and a tapas menu. And the decor is ambience times ten. I will be taking others to dine there, oh, yes I will!!!

the plumber arrived promptly at 10:00 as promised.  Wow.   The good news is it looks like they can cut through the wall on in the store room and change the entire shower system without taking out the tile. WOO HOO!!! I am so happy.   He also said he doesn't think it's leaking, just dripping when I take a shower.   He doesn't think the current handles etc are repairable. I didn't think it would be...way too much rust.  So, the price seems reasonable and I am very happy about this!

Whew!   Off to work....oh Boo just dragged a Cat dancer all the way down stairs.  I better play a little before I go.  LATERS

I did, however, have time to view THE TAKING OF POWER BY LOUIS XIV by Roberto Rossellini. It's the same rather placid take on history that he showed in those TV bio films that I watched a week or two ago, only here he's got a movie-sized budget and it shows in the number of extras and the grandeur of the production design.

Not a great film (the actor playing Louis is HIDEOUSLY uncharismatic and appears at certain points to be reading his lines off cue cards. I'll be interested to watch the bonus features to see if he was an amateur cast in the part because he resembled the real man. Truly, everyone else acts circles around the star of the show!

Bad news from the Dixie front.

It seems that the vets that took care of her girlie parts didn't do a very good job of it.  She got all infected, and der B's SIL had to rush her to a vet closer to where they live.  Hopefully she'll be all right, but our local SPCA is going to have a lot to answer for.

Such as why they've allowed what was a fairly decent and clean animal shelter turn into a total dump.

Such as why they've hired vets who would botch such an operation.

I can only imagine the trauma the younger grandlad is going through right now, being the sort who wears his heart on his sleeve, and no doubt has already fallen totally in love with the dog.

I might even suggest to der B's daughter that she write to the local paper about what has happened.

Closer to home, and on a happier note:

A couple of days ago at work, I was down on the main floor when Tim and Mike (both from the meat department) called me over and asked what I knew about roux.

I, of course, explained to them that a roux is a mixture of some kind of fat (usually butter, sometimes bacon fat, sometimes vegetable oil) with usually an equal amount of all purpose flour, that is cooked together so that the raw flour flavor disappears, and which is then used to thicken stews and soups and sauces.

Did I know anything about pre-packaged roux?

Well, I guessed that such a thing might exist, but we don't carry it.

It turns out that a customer (of the young female variety) had been looking for the pre-packaged stuff, and if we hurried, we might catch her and I could tell her what I knew.  So off Tim and I went, and we found her at one of the self-scan registers with her boyfriend.  She and I had a nice conversation (and she's from the South, which explains why she was familiar with the packaged roux), and I found that she prefers to make her gumbo with okra, and she was glad to meet someone else who enjoys cooking, and will be coming back to our store.

Ever since then, Tim has been calling me Roux.

I've been calling him Kanga.   ;D

For some reason, DR MBARNUM - there are TWO versions of the movie in this set....digital transfer from the original negative.

Only $5.98 at OLDIES.COM.

MADMEN OF MANDORAS was the original version, but sometime in the early 70s new footage was added to pad out the length of the film, and it was renamed THEY SAVED HITLER'S BRAIN...I recommend skipping the padded out version.

I am on a Universal kick today (maybe due to the Vera West discussion of a few days back) and just watched a cute comedy from 1940 titled LOVE, HONOR AND O' BABY starring Donald Woods and Kathryn Adams.

Up next was the Andrew Sister's 1942 musical GIVE OUT, SISTERS co-starring Grace McDonald and Dan Dailey and the Jiven Jacks and Jills (which included a very young Donald O'Connor).

Now for another Universal musical, STRICKLY IN THE GROOVE (1942) starring Mary Healy, Richard Davies, Grace McDonald and Ozzie Nelson.

Of course those Universal films of the 40s are only available on black gray market DVDrs, due to the fact that Universal Studios doesn't seem to realize that they have an embarrassment of riches in their film vaults...so many films of the 30s, 40s, and 50s just ready for public consumption, and at their finger tips, but instead they prefer to release umpteen versions of the 1933 film THE MUMMY.

ps: not that I dislike THE MUMMY, but really, how many times do they need to release it on DVD.

The real reason you can't find Promise Fat Free Margarine at Gelsons, or any place else, is because it's no longer being made.

Checking around, it seems that Promise was making an empty promise when it claimed that the product was fat free.  According to an article at Askville by Amazon (http://askville.amazon.com/buy-Promise-fat-free-margarine-Gaint-groc-stores-Wash-DC-area-stopped-carrying/AnswerViewer.do?requestId=11171438), while Promise FFM technically did not contain any triglycerides, it was high in monoglycerides and diglycerides, which end up being the same thing once your body gets ahold of them.  For some danged reason, however, the FDS only requires that the triglycerides be called "fat," and any product that only contained the mono- and di- stuff could be called "fat-free" in a loopholey kind of way.  Enough customers complained about the mono- and di-plicity, and the product has been pulled.  However, you can still get Promise Healthy Heart, which is basically the same product with some vitamins added.

Druxy, it's margarine.  Margarine contains fat, whether the manufacturers and the FDA admit it or not.  Do yourself a favor, get the product that tastes best, and just use less of it.

Well, I guess it was a good visit. Everyone finally made their way out of FAO Schwarz around 2:00 (I think), and then we all headed over to Seventh Avenue to grab some lunch. After crossing the line(!) waiting to get into the Carnegie Deli, we all made our way into China Regency.

Wonton Soup, Chicken Corn Velvet Soup, Hot and Sour Soup, Vegetable Spring Roll, Shrimp with Lobster Sauce, Sesame Chicken, BBQ Spare Ribs, Shredded Pork and Pickled Cabbage Soup, Steamed Broccoli and Steamed White Rice were consumed. And without incident too!

Then after a brief walk down to 52nd Street to the garage where their car was parked, pictures were taken, hugs were exchanged, and they started their trip back down to Virginia.

Again, I guess it was a good visit. It was all just a bit hectic, hurried and frustrating... for me, at least. It did look like everyone had a great time during their 24 hours in NYC, but... As I posted on my Facebook page: After a number of visits to NYC, I should just accept the fact that when my parents come to NYC, they're here to visit NYC and not me.

*And compound that with the whole bag on the ferry, left/lost Christmas - which I (pitifully) realized would have been my first actual present received this year, well... I went to see another movie...

As I was walking by Lincoln Plaza, I noticed that "Waltz with Bashir" was about to start, so... "Waltz with Bashir" I did.

What an amazing piece of film-making. It manages to be a cartoon/animated feature, a memory piece, a documentary and analysis of the troubles in Palestine in the early 1980's, particularly the massacre of a whole town/camp of Palestinians by Christian Phalangists.

The use of animation is used expertly to "portray" the recent past both realistically (as in news accounts) and in very personal, post-trauma-tinged memories and dreams. It managed to be Academic and entertaining at the same time.

But the location in Sacramento is closing and offering 40%-off their entire stock. -At least according to the e-blast that Border's sent out. ;)

I'm angry at Gelson's.

 >:(

They stopped carrying my margarine [Promise Fat Free] and there's no place else in Los Angeles where it's sold.

 :'(

However, I'm told that is IS available in Austin, TX.

 :)

So, as far as Gelson's is concerned:

 :P

s
Have you requested ordering a case of the margarine?  Sometimes if you are willing to buy a full case they will get it in for you.  I would speak to the manager.

The problem is that ta case won't keep long enough for me to use all of it...and I really don't want to cart what's left to Texas.

Thanks for the information.  Now I don't feel so bad.

Druxy, have you heard of Smart Balance (http://www.smartbalance.com/)?  It's the only kind of spread that my sister and niece will use (my sister's a vegetarian and my niece is vegan).  According to their Nutrition FAQs:

The essence of Smart Balance is its unique (in fact, patented) blend of natural vegetable oils. This blend doesn’t just avoid "bad" things like dietary cholesterol and trans fatty acids. It also works proactively, to provide your diet with the right balance of natural fats: a balance that can help you improve your blood cholesterol ratio. Our signature product, Smart Balance Buttery Spread (Regular and Light) brings this remarkable formula together with delicious buttery flavor and a wonderfully creamy texture.

And it tastes good. :)

I just found this on the Smart Balance website:

What's the difference between Smart Beat® and Smart Balance®?
Smart Beat offers excellent fat free and low fat cheeses, mayonnaise, spreads and squeeze spreads. They're all lactose free and very low in calories. Smart Balance products are focused on using healthy fats to help you improve your cholesterol ratio, while avoiding trans-fatty acids and hydrogenated oils.

So, they do have low-fat/fat-free products.

Thanks, DR Jane.  Thanks, DR Cillaliz.

I'm also a bit tired, and need a good night's sleep right now too. So...

My parents would make an annual trip to NYC each Christmas each year to see the Radio City Christmas Spectacular.  I think that's been a tradition of their for the past 15 years.  However, they would usually come up with another couple, and they would take one of those "day busses" from DC.  Leave DC at 9:00am, see the afternoon show at RCMH, head right back to DC.  No real sight-seeing.  -I believe they've been up at least three times this year.

I was just hoping to spend more time with my nieces and nephew this time.  I knew the schedule was going to be tight, but the time crunch ended up being "crunchier" today since my family didn't end up leaving their hotel in Weehawken until around 11:00 - they had originally planned to be in the city at 9:00. However...

They did get very lucky when they went to American Girl Place.  Right after they entered the store, the staff started setting up the barricades outside in order to control the flow of people into the store.  -And, apparently, it was still wall-to-wall people in there.  But the grandparents did end up buying Alexandra and Alyssa another doll and some of the requisite accessories.  I had hoped to catch them at AGP, but by the time I got down there, they had already headed up 5th Avenue a couple of blocks to FAO Schwarz.

FAO Schwarz truly was a madhouse, and when I saw the line stretched down the sidewalk, I just went ahead and took a seat on the plaza and waited for them out there.  Which was OK, since I did need some "calming down" time after making my way through the crowded sidewalks of 5th Ave.  And since John Michael did not buy/get anything at American Girl Place ;), he was able to pick out a few things at FAO Schwarz.  -Which included a small jar of over-sized chocolate non-pareils.  :)

And lunch at China Regency was very nice, and the cashier doted over my nieces.  Very cute.

I love(d) David as The Doctor, also.  I haven't heard if they've started searching for a replacement, yet.  Who can fill his shoes??

:)
Yes, the search is on.  The suggestions and rumors for who will be the next Doctor have been rampant!  Rampant, I repeat!  And rife!  It has been rife with rampantcy!

Seriously, the big change is not so much that Tennant is stepping away from the role, but that Russel T. Davies is leaving as Executive Producer and head writer/script editor.  The five specials (the first has already aired in England) are his way of giving incoming EP Steven Moffat a clean slate to work with, and it will probably be Moffat who makes the final decision on who will be the next actor to take on the role.

One thing is certain - every time the role has been recast, the producers have gone in a quirkily different direction than we've been living with.  So, will the next Doctor be older?  Ugly?  Non-white?

Stay tuned, and expect the decision to be fun.  (Hey, the only time they've screwed up was when John Nathan Turner cast Colin Baker in the part, mainly because he was the life of the party and totally charming at a wedding they both attended - not the best casting decision, IMO!)

Several years ago (before the "new" Doctor Who even started), I vaguely remember reading something about the transformations and that it had been established YEARS ago that the Doctor could only transform a certain number of times (and then he would really die).  Do you (or anyone) know anything about that?

On the bright side...

I just received confirmation today that I will be playing for a former "Disney Princess" sometime in the very near future on the Disney Cruise Line.  This time round, it will be the 7-Day Itinerary with stops in St. Maarten and St. Thomas/St. John.  And just like when I do the audition workshops on board, I will only be "working" for about two hours total, and the rest of the time I get to be a passenger.  :)

Congratulations, DR Jose!  Need someone to turn pages for you?

Last we've heard, Dixie is at the vet's, with more surgery having been performed.  Der B's daughter is not keeping us posted hourly, but if there was a real disaster I'm certain we'd have heard something.

Several years ago (before the "new" Doctor Who even started), I vaguely remember reading something about the transformations and that it had been established YEARS ago that the Doctor could only transform a certain number of times (and then he would really die).  Do you (or anyone) know anything about that?
During the long run of the series, and I cannot remember exactly when, it was determined that a Time Lord could regenerate twelve times, giving him (or her, if she was a Time Lady) thirteen lives.

However, part of the Master's story arc was that he'd already run through his regenerations, and somehow managed to go further by taking over other people's bodies (see The Keeper of Traken).  And, obviously, he was able to regenerate in the Third Series story Utopia, when he went from being Derek Jacobi to John Simm.

Plus, there is the curious case of The Valeyard, all through The Trial of a Time Lord (aka the 23rd season), who turned out to be a part of the Doctor, somewhere between his twelfth and thirteenth regenerations, who was trying to take over the Doctor's earlier regenerations.

No matter what happens, I'm sure Moffat or whoever will come up with some way of allowing the Doctor to continue.  Where there is a will, there is an ingenious scriptwriter capable of practically anything!

Ignore that little piece of information?  Surely you jest!

Whovians are more dedicated to their subject than any trekkie.  They would notice the lack of adhesion to the history, and would jeer the perpetrator into the Void.

(If the Esteemed BK knew how much more dedicated the Whovians are compared to, say, the film score crowd, his mind would be boggled!)

I'm embarrassed to admit that I've never heard of any of those pictures.

Don't be embarrassed DR Druxy, most of Universal's B films of the 30s and 40s (other then the horror films and Abbott and Costello movies) haven't been seen since that days of the UHF channel late, late, late shows. The only way to find them now is by those who collected 16 mm films, thus the DVDrs that I purchased.

But I tell you, these films are a lot of fun! Nobody made movies like Universal!

I am on much earlier than usual tonight. I wanted to get the Criterion review finished and posted, but since there weren't that many bonux features to write up, it didn't take nearly as long as I figured. I could have watched an NCIS episode and still not been in any danger of working into the dead of night.

Yes, I'm back! I got in about 2 hrs ago, unpacked, ordered dinner, won an eBay item, and here I am. Next week the stupid US Air goes back to three nonstop flights a day from Dayton to LaGuardia. Fuckem.

There was a delay in DC with the shuttle to LaGuardia so I got back later than expected, but the 2-hour wait in DC was a major pain in the butt. I hate having to take two planes to get to one location.

So, anyway, I think I had a very good time in Ohio, probably regained every pound I lost, and it's nice to feel that Randy and I still constitute a family unit and that I care greatly for him and Jo and my nephews and nieces. I also saw more friends than I usually do - some I hadn't seen in 30 years! - and that was a wonderful thing.

DR Ginny, the package had a glitch; it should arrive by Wednesday.

And now I'm tired. I have to be here tomorrwo to receive three cartons of Fed Ex and wait for Fed Ex to ship out 4 cartons of manuscripts to Miami University. And then there's also laundry to be done. Oy.

I did watch the three bonus features when I went back downstairs. The longest was only 25 minutes, so it took less than a hour to finish off the disc.

I did not get any review discs in the mail today, so it looks like tomorrow's assignment will be the new Centennial Edition of BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY'S. Again, there are three or four new bonus features in addition to porting over the others from the last release of the film on DVD. It will likely take me the afternoon and part of the evening again to finish everything. I could write the film up now if I wanted since I've seen it so many times, but I'll hold off for tomorrow.

Once I finished the Criterion disc, I put in Mae West in SHE DONE HIM WRONG. Although I had burned a DVD for myself a few years ago from a TCM broadcast (since it looked like Universal wasn't going to release any more of their Mae West pictures), they did release this one, and it's been sitting on my to-watch shelf for a year waiting to be watched.

It's basically the same quality of the disc I burned: heavier grain than one might expect and some scratches along with a hissy audio track. Still, it goes on the shelf with the Mae West box set Universal issued some years back.

After that was finished, I was in the mood for a mystery, so I took off the shelf the Joan Hickson version of A POCKETFUL OF RYE. I love all of her Miss Marple films, but in this one, she's barely in the first hour. It's an excellent mystery all tied into the old nursery rhyme.

Borders is safe until at least 2011.  I speak because I know.

But the location in Sacramento is closing and offering 40%-off their entire stock. -At least according to the e-blast that Border's sent out. ;)

. . .and the follow-up email that went out.

The official line on the Sacremento screw-up is that someone really f**ked up royally by sending a regional short list letter out nationwide, leaving upper levels with tons of spin control and many more Borders' customers questioning when the rest of the stores were closing.

I've been caught up in them and the ones from the 1930s of my mother and her siblings are very "Little Rascals." DR MBarnum would love them and all my mother's sisters 1940s dresses.

I am supposed to get this DVD to review when it comes out in January. At this point, I can't remember if it was the DVD or Blu-ray version, but I'll be seeing it within a few weeks, and as the movie is his biggest hit in years and has garnered his best reviews in years (and with an almost certain Oscar nomination for Penelope Cruz in the supporting category), I'm looking forward to seeing it.

Here are my brother Macbeth and me on Easter Sunday, 1957. I'm on the left.

Scary!

Good night!

I spent the day in NYC.  My nephew has a school project that involves spending time with someone in his proposed field of study, namely entertainment reporting.  So I went up to the city with my nephew and sister.  After we dropped off my my nephew, my sis and I started to walk about the Fifth Ave looking for a place to eat breakfast, but we detoured through Saks and St. Patrick's.  We wound up brunching in the Rockerfeller Plaza concourse where we watched them clear the ice of skaters just so this one guy (who didn't skate well at all) could publicly propose to his girlfriend.  The crowd cheered as she evidently accepted.  After that spectacle, we decided that it was too cold to make our way up to the Met Museum and instead found our way to MOMA where we spent the rest of the afternoon.  Even though the city was cold, and crowded and filled with what seemed to be too many screaming kiddies, a good time was had by all.

I remember how much you didn't like it. I'll be absolutely shocked if it isn't the same transfer.

Ah... MoMA... :)

Yes, again although incredibly crowded, it was a wonderful place to spend the afternoon.  So many glorious paintings...

We had a sort of good new/bad new situation--since my sister's place of work is a corporate sponsor, we were able to by-pass the long, long general admission line outside and make it through to the merely long line inside for free admission.  The bad side is that Van Gogh was sold out.

I was shocked to find that MOMA houses Andrew Wyeth's "Christina's World".  I was doubly shocked to find it hung in a small shabby hallway of a gallery.

At the beginning of the day, I never thought I'd be a rock guitarist by the end of the day.  The purchase of Guitar Hero for PS2 has taken care of that.  My students will be impressed.  :)

JMK, please let us know how Stairway to Heaven looks.

Just finished a wonderful day of Powell-gazing.  Stairway/Life & Death looks pretty damned good.  The Technicolor segments look excellent, though you might quibble they're just a tad on the purple side of things.  It's certainly head and shoulders above any other release I've had/seen (I don't have a region free player, so I can't compare to the R2 version that's been out for some time).  There's a bit of damage in the b&w segments, nothing too egregious.

The real story, color-wise, is Age of Consent.  I had never seen this one before.  Wowza, what a palette!  Have you seen it, BK?  Amazing.  You should release the Sculthorpe score on Kritzerland--a lovely little piece, redolent of gamelans.  The stems sound like they were slightly damaged somewhere along the way, probably when the score was jettisoned in favor of one by Stanley Myers.

I have Age Of Consent on a region 2 DVD - it's spectacular and I'm sure this is derived from the same source material.  I'm most anxious to compare the Stairway To Heaven with its region two counterpart.

I do recall that they made a few good westerns (e.g. WHEN THE DALTONS RODE) and some film noir.  I think that THE KILLERS is one of the all time great gangster movies.

Or they could just ignore that little piece of information. ;)

Revisionist history is rampant in TV series.

 :D

I certainly understand that the Whovians (the fans) are absolutely dedicated and knowledgeable, but I'm saying that the writers and/or producers may not be.  There have been countless examples of new versions of shows that totally disregard previous canon and it angers the original fans.  They (the writers and/or producers) try to make something for a new audience and it rarely works at all.

How is DD Dixie this evening?  Is she home or at the vet's?
Last we've heard, Dixie is at the vet's, with more surgery having been performed.  Der B's daughter is not keeping us posted hourly, but if there was a real disaster I'm certain we'd have heard something.

Continued vibes for the poor thing.  They must have really screwed up if more surgery was required.

Boy, did they ever. They found balls of dog hair inside which had casued an infection which then ruptured her incision. The local MD vet called the DE SPCA (who ran the shelter) and raised cain - the DE shelter will pay all of the MD Vet's costs for caring for Dixie. The VET said their was nothing the Family did to aggravate the injury - it was all the SPCA's fault.

As a side note: the Family had never used this particular Vet before, but the Vet's son is one of William's schoolmates, so they thought they'd try him out. It was nice to see the Vet take the lead on getting the DE folks to pick up the tab.
