Well, you've read the notes, the notes were scary, and now it is time for you to post until the three hundred pound cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: VIAND!
-
And now - Dino at the piano.
-
Welcome five GUESTS. Several are enjoying past topics (like the Christmas Do of 2004) and one GUEST is enjoying yesterday's posts, oh, yes, they are enjoying yesterday's posts.

And now, I'm off to bed.
Good night, all.

And now - Dino at the piano.
Playing VIAND CON DIOS?

Why am I still up?
-
Why are six GUESTS still up?
-
Why did a three hundred pound Albanian woman just fall on me?

Most people don't realize that Dr. Seuss's first draft of "The 500 Hats of Bartholomew Cubbins" was actually entitled "The 300 Pounds of Vojsava Dushku."

CONGRATULATIONS to Thomas and Curtis, DFs of DR elmore3003!! :D

And happy Friday, DRs!!

To paraphrase Anna Russell...

Last night wasn't too bad - I fell asleep around 10 PM woke up at 2:30 and again at 4:45 at which point I was up so I made lunch for Vixdad and then wandered over here.
Thank you all for the vibes - the past 2 nights I was getting up every hour choking and coughing. Last night was much better.
-
Well the Vixter is up and getting ready for school so I will go and visit with her. SDhe is going to a friend's house after school and was invited to stay for dinner so I won't get to see her again until late tonight.
-
Good Morning. I got up late and I'm eating my oatmeal and drinking my coffee and strawberry apple juice.
I'm also listening to NPR Morning Edition.
-
I always enjoy listening to FOR LOVE OF TIFFANY.....congrats to the boys that DR ELMORE knows!
-
Friday is a work day....oh well.
TOD:
DVD - Womaneater
CD - The Twisted Nerve/The Bride Wore Black
VHS - Beach Party Nuclear Protest
-
Well I hope MR BK enjoys the Troy Donahue box set.
I sort of watched them in reverse order....release order would be:
Parrish
Susan Slade
Rome Adventure
Palm Springs Weekend
Everybody in them looks very nice and dresses very well.
-
Almost an hour later and I'm here in the office.
-
It WAS windy last night. I almost got knocked over by the wind as well. I had trouble opening the door to the Booth Theatre.
-
Sad sad images from the plane crash last night.
-
I found The Story of My Life quite wonderful. The two talents, Will Chase and Malcolm Gets are excellent. I can see where the story might not appeal to everyone but I found it moving and well told. The Wonderful Life device worked for me as well. Mrs. Remington and the Butterfly song stood out for me. As I was leaving the theatre last night I couldn't stop thinking about parts of the story related to me and my best friend (in my mind) in high school. We didn't meet in First Grade (the characters in TSOML met then) but much of the story when they were teens was very similar to my story. I haven't seen my then best friend since he graduated from high school and enlisted in the Navy. In retrospect I know that my then best friend was also my first real (and undeclared) love. Very bittersweet.
-
And now we are 2
-
And the word of the day is: VIAND!
And The Song Of The Day Is: YOU'RE THE CREAM IN MY COFFEE
-
Nice to hear good things about TSOML (The Story of My Life).
-
Thanks for the theatre report, DR BEN.
-
Nice song choice, DR ARNOLDBROCKMAN.
-
And now I am off......to work.
-
Song of the Day reminds me that I need more. I may have to put my coat on and walk down the stairs to the deli and get a large coffee before I continue my work.
-
Anthony's package arrived and his (early) Valentine's Day gifts were received.
-
Good Morning!
I'm up, I'm up... And I just saw some guy jump into the crowd shot on "The Today Show"... And then get elbowed by the woman whom he jumped in front of. -Talk about a look of death. And on national TV too! :D
-
DR Ben - "Mrs. Remington" as well as "People Carry On" were responsible for a couple of tears during the auditions. :)
*And on a purely "shallow" note: Doesn't Will Chase look quite "woofy" with the facial hair? ::)
-
Oh, Yes, Mr. Chase looks good.
-
Once again, thanks for sharing your theatre thoughts with us, DR Ben! :)
-
Friday morning greetings! The winds have finally died down here in SW Ohio and it's a clear, sunny, cold morning. No plans for today, except making a Jello salad for Richard to take to his all-day shape-note sing tomorrow.
Media report: DVD - 30 Rock, season 1

I don't have any thing planned to watch at home this weekend but there is a place in Miami (I believe) That will be showing all the Academy Award Nominees for Best Animated Short, Best Live Action Short & I think maybe Best Documentary Short. I think I will take advantage of it as I never get the opportunity to see any of these nominations and it should make it an evening of interesting viewing

Sad sad images from the plane crash last night.
...And there was just a report that one of the women who was killed in the crash had lost her husband during 9/11, and that she was a major advocate for the Survivors of 9/11 - and had even met with President Obama just last week in regards to the ongoing memorial process. She was flying to Buffalo to join her family in celebrating what would have been her husband's 58th birthday.

As for the Friday Media Check...
After the four-day working weekend I had in Memphis... I've just been catching up shows via the DVR.

I had somehow missed the announcement that postage for a first-class letter will increase another 2 cents effective Mon May 11th. :-\
-
I had somehow missed the announcement that postage for a first-class letter will increase another 2 cents effective Mon May 11th. :-\
I didn't, but I was sort of surprised that there wasn't more news coverage of yet another increase in postage in such a relatively short amount of time.
Alas, sometimes "going digital" can have other side effects.
-
I assume those "Forever" stamps will still be valid, or will they find a way of making forever not be forever?
-
And if stamps never last forever
Tell me, what's forever for?
(almost a pop song reference)
-
Yes, the "Forever" stamps will still be "forever". -Or something like that.
-
Yes, when I go to the post office tomorrow morning I plan on buying more forever stamps though I must admit I don't use stamps much anymore. I use them when I send real greeting cards and I will buy some of the nice looking stamps (the Minnesota stamps, Bette Davis, etc.) but I pay all my bills except two on line. One of the two I don't pay on line I pay in person at the business office. If my landlord accepted ETF payments I would be down to no payments through the mail.
-
Good morning, all! I was up too late with the plane crash coverage on CNN and I slept in. I had been thinking a couple of days ago about my friend Myra who died on one of the planes on 9/11 and this crash of yesterday has me in a rather reflective mood this morning. I have laundry to do, a birthday call to make to Miss Charlotte in Ann Arbor, and hope that by noon I'll be back to my usual self-centered being.
DR George, I know THE WIZARD OF OZ from reading the book at a 10 year-old rather than the film, which I love, but all of the pre-1939 versions veer drastically from the source. According to the preface to the published 1939 screenplay, additional plots not based on the book were considered for addition to the story. Thank God that didn't happen, although the poppy field and snow come from the 1902 musical version. My friend Marc Swartz has written a great book about these early afaptations and it's wonderful. If you love OZ and don't know this book, you should gtab it since it's selling cheap in hardcover on amazon.com/

I had somehow missed the announcement that postage for a first-class letter will increase another 2 cents effective Mon May 11th. :-\
Before the price increase last year, I bought ten books of the Forever stamp and I've used just over five of them, so I'm somewhat ahead of the game. I'll probably buy at least five more books before this next increase. I know I'm only saving pennies, but there's an odd satisfaction in this case.
-
I did watch a couple of MURDER SHE WROTE episodes this morning. One set in NYC had guest stars Cynthia Nixon (looking about 18 years old), David Lansbury, Herb Edelman, Margot Kidder, and David Soul.
I started another that was also chock-full of famous guest stars: Chad Everett, Michael Beck, Don Stroud, Gregg Henry, Hope Lange.
-
I have three books of Forever Stamps. I agree it makes me feel good to use them since I bought them the first time around when they were selling for $.041!!!
-
Now we are 3

I agree. It's also a relief not having to keep up with the "penny-anty" increases every year or so.

Speaking of selling cheap, Playbill Online is having a clearance sale and has all four volumes of the Playbill Yearbook going for $29.00.

After the Vixter went off to school and Vixdad went to work I had a can and drifted off to sleep for 3 lovely hours.
and now here I am
-
Happiest of Birthday's to Elmore's beautiful goddaughter Charlotte.
That was a lovely picture you posted yesterday, Elmore!
-
When my Mom took me to the store the other day I bought another book of Forever Stamps. I pay almost everything by phone or automatic payment hooked to my debit card (which is how I had all those points for the Vixter's Christmas) so I use very few stamps as well. I still have half a book left of teh Forever STamps I bought last September.
(Of course at Christmas time I used Christmas stamps )- OH I should check my Christmas card box to see if I left any stamps in there so I can use them up before May for any cards etc I may have to send out!
-
Today is Peter Tork's birthday (remember him from The Monkees?) He is 67 years old!
-
That's right, I did buy specific holiday stamps for cards. Those are gone.
-
Vixdad's lunch of the day was Roasted turkey, swiss cheese, lettuce, tomato witha little mayo , and slice of marinated roasted red pepper on whole wheat bread. Sides included sweet baby gherkins, some "light" pringle potato chips and an apple.
It gives me some odd sort of satisfaction to be able to prepare some meals even if I cannot eat them.
-
Today is Peter Tork's birthday (remember him from The Monkees?) He is 67 years old!
Oh yes!! I loved the Monkees. I was probably about 10 or 11 when they were on TV
Here they come, walkin' down the street
-
The Vixter asked if she could buy lunch today since they were having pizza in the cafe
-
She had a bowl of Lucky Charms for breakfast to offset any bad luck the day may bring.
( I bought these at her request, also on that shopping trip with Mom, we haven't had any in the house for years)

Ginny, how do you make your jello salad? Do you use a mold and various layers of different flavors and or do you favor one flavor and "add ins" ?
I haven't made jello salad in years and years - neither the Vixer nor Vixdad are jello fans.
I remember I always had trouble unmiolding my salad and would have to "fix" things with little flourishes of decorative whipped cream here and there.

BK,
When I reluctantly found myself at the center of the last maelstrom that happened here, I said at the time no matter what happened to me or the other individual involved, most people would move on and that your site would continue to flourish. How many years ago was that? Seems I was right.
A small few chose to listen to only one side and left, most either ferreted out the truth or didn't care about personal dynamics of a private matter dragged out in a public forum and didn't let it affect their participation. Some, as both you and I know, even discovered the truth of things later on in no uncertain terms.
But, as predicted, all the sturm and drang ultimately had very little effect on this site. Those who left, it was their loss. The rest remained a relatively happy bunch who enjoy each other's company, debates, and camaraderie.
You'll know when it's time to close down the site. And it will have nothing to do with nonsense like this.
I will say I'm really bewildered how a person thinks that sharing an individual's unflattering private email with you, obviously not meant for your eyes, will gain him readership to his own blog. Great way to start an online relationship or any relationship...by betraying that person's privacy and trust in order to embarrass both the email writer and you. I think that alone would be enough to deter anyone else from communicating with him, for fear that anything expressed in confidence might be exposed so he can score points.
Your pal,
Pogue

Well she ate them all down so I assume they were magially delicous. No prize inside the box but they added a new marshmallow charm an hour glass. The front of the box says:
"Control Time! with the HOURGLASS marshmallow charm"
They don't seem to have given any directions as to how said time control is to be achieved.

There is the most insufferable putz (technical term) on the staff at DVDTalk. Matt may also know him, since he's recently tried to stir things up on HTF and got a firm bitch-slapping. DR George, I have also seen the 1925 WIZARD OF OZ. It is interesting to see, but I think it would have been better had they used sets instead of filming outdoors. Indoor sets would have made for a magical feel that this type of film needs. Instead, the outdoor filming makes it look like a motley group dressed up for Halloween and prancing around in front of dad's 8 mm camera.

Happiest of Birthday's to Elmore's beautiful goddaughter Charlotte.
That was a lovely picture you posted yesterday, Elmore!
How the time gallops! It seems like yesterday that the photo of me holding her on her first day back from the hospital was taken. And when I get all sentimental over her, I remember when she was about 10 years old I took her to see the Young Vic perform a great collection of dramatized folk tales, full of blood and gore: she was a complete bitch. I debated throwing her off the balcony. I later talked to her godmother Celia Weston about it, and Celia said I should have called her on it and not let her get away with it. I think that's the only bad time I ever had taking her out.

AH! The mystery is revealed - apparently there is a word search on the back of teh box which will enable you to unlock the magic spell which you can then use on www.luckycharms.com to unlock bonus charm powers in Lucky's continuous adventures.
I wonder how much cheaper the cereal would be if it didn't have it's own web site with games? I wonder how many people actually use breakfast cereal web sites?

I was very disappointed to learn yesterday that USA network cancelled THE STARTER WIFE (not sure if it was mentioned here as i'm still catching up on yesterday's posts).
But i think it was a really good show. the dumbest part is that they insist that there was resolution and it was a satisfying finale. Yet there were all sorts of cliffhangers!!

I watched the Grey's Anatomy/Private Practice cross-over. Apparently it will continue next week too. I wish they had mentioned it was for 3 weeks. I ffed thru Grey's for anything that did not pertain to the Addison storyline (I only watch Private Practice).
It really was truly a cross-over. The stories totally continued. IT was almost like a 2 hour event. Although during the first hour they had Grey's stories and the Addison story. ANd the 2nd hour they had the Private Practice stories, and the addison story (although addison did help with a case that was on grey's).
I wonder if the numbers for PP went up a lot?

DR Vixmom - even though BK asked for recipes yesterday (or was it the day before?), here's the Jello salad I'm making today:
2 pkgs. (3 oz) lemon Jello
2pkgs. (3 oz) lime Jello
4 cups boiling water
1 cup mayo or Miracle Whip
3 cups small curd cottage cheese
1 cup crushed pineapple with juice
2/3 cup evaporated milk
1 cup chopped nuts
Combine Jello's and water in large bowl and refrigerate until thickened. Add mayo and blend well. Add remaining ingredients and pour into mold or Bundt pan that has been greased with mayo or salad dressing. Chill.
This makes A LOT and will fill 2 molds. The recipe can be cut in half well, but for tomorrow we will have one for Richard to take and one for us to enjoy at home.
The secret to unmolding is coating the mold with mayo and using my magic Tupperware molds. Richard used to impress his female teaching colleagues by being able to unmold this salad perfectly every time! Tomorrow he will impress the shape-note singers.
Before we were married, my friend Clare had a bridal shower for me using a "Round the Clock" theme. She gave each guest a different time of day and asked them to write a poem to go along with their gift. My friend Stephanie (5pm) gave us a Jello mold and wrote a long poem about my preparing dinner and the last stanza reads:
"Hey - what's for dessert? - your Richard will bellow -
What else - Richard, dear - my new mold full of Jello!!!"

That sounds good Ginny! I love the poem and that you remember it after all these years!

There is the most insufferable putz (technical term) on the staff at DVDTalk. Matt may also know him, since he's recently tried to stir things up on HTF and got a firm bitch-slapping. I just received word this morning of a new thread where this insufferable putz is attempting to "edumacate" me about the musical version of Goodbye, Mr. Chips. Pluh---eeze.
I was SO glad not to be involved with all that DRAMA at HTF and sorry you have to deal with it yourself.
He is just one of those people so full of himself and quite sure he knows more about every subject than anyone else. In fact, he'd be a perfect reader for "someone"'s blog. ;D
Then I would just ignore him.
Unfortunately that's not an option when an insufferable putz goes on a public forum where I "work" (if you can call this work, LOL), supposedly "correcting" my "errors" in a review.
AH! I see

TOD: Nothing. But today's adventures include breakfast with my son, weeding the yard, and applying another coat of finish to the cabinet doors. Exciting, huh?

That sounds good Ginny! I love the poem and that you remember it after all these years!
Oh, I had to look it up in the scrapbook where I've saved all the cards. Also had a laugh over the poem that came from co-worker Lee with a copy of her church's cookbook:
"When dinner is over and Richard says, 'Bah, librarians!'
Just throw the book at him and blame the Presbyterians."

I suppose we've lost the person who sent the PM - he has not responded to my brief PM to him about it (which was indeed brief and not mean in any way - it basically said I was shocked and saddened by what I'd read and that I was sorry said person felt that way, but mostly I sent it so he'd know that his private PM was sent to me). I'm sorry that rather than just send a response and stay the person has seemingly chosen to ignore and just drop out of sight. Again, I have never said an unkind word to this person - EVER. But I suspect that as Pogue mentions, this was all part of that long ago and mercifully forgotten event wherein I was the victim of a behind-the-scenes e-mail campaign to portray me as a villain in a drama I really had nothing to do with - and yes, sadly there were a couple of people who did not bother to even think there might be another side to what was really going on. Some came to find out what was really going on. And that's all I've got to say on this topic. Some of you may hear from the person who has seemingly left, and I wish you'd tell said person that despite the PM he is still welcome here.

I just received word this morning of a new thread where this insufferable putz™ is attempting to "edumacate" me about the musical version of Goodbye, Mr. Chips. Pluh---eeze.
Well, has anyone tried to edumcate you about the use of em dashes, particularly when you are commenting upon them?
"The Roar of the Greasepaint--The Smell of the Crowd" doesn't hack it
The Roar of the Greasepaint—The Smell of the Crowd works
If you are using Word, you need to set your auto-correct options to convert double hyphens to em dashes; alternatively, you can create "—" by typing ALT 0151.
Sincerely,
The Insufferable Pendent, der Brucer
Note: sometimes Word documents that have embedded "auto-correct" em dashes do not correcty import into other programs - particularly those used on the WWW.

Somehow I knew exactly who JMK was talking about - this guy is a total idiot. Perhaps JMK can link to this man's review of the Natalie Wood box set - talk about someone who needs to learn the word brevity.

I appreciate that, BK--he is the most unbelievably verbose and self-important fool I have ever stumbled across, internet-wise (and that's saying quite a bit, wouldn't you agree?). ;D His Natalie Wood review was indeed the subject of the brouhaha over at HTF.

Your pal,
Pogue
Initially he could have been completely in "the right" (I'm only stating this to make my point, not to say he was). Once he betrayed one person to hurt another all validity is lost. I only hope he comes to truly regret his actions.
Most of all Bruce, I hope you can move past this & have compassion for the person that was also betrayed along with you.

DR Vixmom - even though BK asked for recipes yesterday (or was it the day before?), here's the Jello salad I'm making today:
2 pkgs. (3 oz) lemon Jello
2pkgs. (3 oz) lime Jello
4 cups boiling water
1 cup mayo or Miracle Whip
3 cups small curd cottage cheese
1 cup crushed pineapple with juice
2/3 cup evaporated milk
1 cup chopped nuts
Combine Jello's and water in large bowl and refrigerate until thickened. Add mayo and blend well. Add remaining ingredients and pour into mold or Bundt pan that has been greased with mayo or salad dressing. Chill.

Jane, I have compassion to a point. And my PM to the person involved was not mean in any way, shape, or form. It was exactly what I said it was, and I basically made the person aware that I'd received it so the person would know that his private PM had been shared. I hope the person will not go away, but I suspect, for all the reasons I've stated, that he's already gone. My other point about what happened on which I simply cannot bend is that I found it off-putting that someone would come here to MY site and harvest e-mail addresses and send PMs rather than just make a post - as one dear reader put it to me - they felt violated by that.

It is interesting how different people react. I didn't think much about the first PM, only surprised it wasn't also posted. While I understood the reasoning, I was a little surprised at the 2nd PM. HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Charlotte!!!!!
Another thing to celebrate.

I tried to purchase a mini-poster to the film we're doing the soundtrack for - I used Buy It Now and clicked pay now. I was then whisked off the eBay site into the company's store, where I was then asked to pay 6.99 (two-thirds of the cost of the poster) for regular shipping - even though in their eBay listing shipping is FREE. I wrote them via their store and received three responses, all the same saying I had to write them via the eBay listing. I've just done so. I will not complete the transaction off eBay, nor will I pay that ridiculous shipping charge.

Although it would take rewrites and rethinking (something I'm sure you are loath to do at this point), you and Cindy would be best in those parts.
But watching it again a week or so ago, you were both so good at that. and it's an ability that would only improve. IMHO!

Thanks for the info, Larry! The library where I work has two copies. I requested one. I should get it sometime next week. :)

No, they definitely left threads dangling in THE STARTER WIFE. Molly has broken up with her boy friend, but her husband seemed to have gotten interested in her again (and she didn't seem all that turned off to the notion of trying it again). The Judy Davis character was under suspicion of murder and took off from the police. The black baskbetball star and his wife were moving to a new city but were on a little shaky ground with that long-ago son of his now in the picture.

I went to a farmer's market earlier. Their business was BOOMING.
They sell firearms at the market?

no - kettle drums

Anyway, at lunch I watched Wednesday night's LIFE ON MARS, a good episode, but I do get tired of these "weak" men who succumb to these wily women when every fiber of their being tells them they need to just shut the door. And how horrible did Cheyenne Jackson make his voice sound to play that acid rock star. Help! My ears!
I did get very emotional when Sam was hollering up at the "space ship" to take him back home.
-
I now have only two more MURDER SHE WROTE episodes to watch, so I'll easily fit those in this evening. There are no bonuses in the set at all this time out. (All of the previous sets usually had at least one featurette, but not this one.)
-
There are just too many guest stars to remember, but in the last episode I watched, taking place on a cruise ship, the guests were Jon Cypher, Jane Withers, Lee Meriweather, and Keith Michell playing (as usual) Dennis Stanton.
-
I also skimmed through today's AS THE WORLD TURNS. Nothing, but Luke was in the previews for next week.

Don't you mean "insufferable pedant" rather than "pendent"? I don't think I'd ever — not even in my WILDEST delusional states — envision you as an adornment that hangs from a piece of jewelry.

Not only is it Friday the 13th, but it's also:

So, will you be at Jelly this afternoon Jose?
I don't think I'll be heading to Jelly this afternoon.
Dang - we were counting on you for the full report! (complete with Monkey pictures of course!)
Oh, gadzooks. Is he still flogging that monkey?
I thought he had switched to interminable snapshots of cupcakes.

It's never too late for Papa's Eggs! Good idea - I may just do that around two-thirty.
what exactly ARE Papa's Eggs?
Scrambled eggs with a little bacon and a little chicken Italian sausage...scallions and parsely
thanks!
I would think reading that would be cruel and unusual punishement - you should be reading about Tofu and soy-bean paste.
der Brucer
I am not fond of scrambled eggs or italian sausage chicken or otherwise so no pangs here. In fact I really have not had any food cravings - it's just orange juice I desperately desire and I know it would burn like sufulric acid going down

We are back from taking Richard's wedding ring into the jeweler to be resized. They checked the prongs on my engagement ring and cleaned it, so now it's all sparkly.
From there we went to Home Depot to look at countertops for the kitchen. I don't like any of the colors in the granite-type and they're not really interested in talking to you about lowly Formica.
From there we went to Target where we only found 2 of the 3 items I needed and purchased those from a grumpy cashier.
Now, we're home, balancing our checkbooks.

I have been thinking about redoing our kitchen - (I have been watching too many home improvement shows while home)
Our formica is sort of a stained yellowish affair that was used as a cutting block by the former owners. One whole wall as well as the back splash is in an awful brownish / yellowish tile and teh floor is brown ceramic title but it has some cracks and it always looks dirty - ther is no shine to it at all. The ceiling was done in some thick spackle fashion with lheavy hand on the texture.
I do like my oak cabinets - those I would like to keep and my stainless steel sink is ok.
We really have never had the money to get it done but I wonder if we did the work ourselves how much it would cost and how hard it would be.

vixmom - the really informal reading is next Wednesday night. Then we're planning on doing a proper staged reading sometime in March. Just got my "Cindy Williams" - my pal, Heather Lee. She was on B'way in the Bernadette Gypsy. She's too old for the part, but the right type - Matt's too old, too, but also the right type, so for the reading they'll be fine.

DR Vixmom - several years ago, my Christmas present was having the kitchen painted and a new floor installed. It's beautiful in white, blue, and brushed chrome, but we ran out of money before replacing the countertops. So the 1960s harvest gold really stands out, but I'm glad we hadn't replaced it before the man who built this house for his family in the '50s came to visit with his now-grown daughter. The wife/mother had died not long before their visit and when the daughter walked in the kitchen, she gasped and said, "Mom's counters!" and lovingly ran her hands across the icky (to me) surface.

I may have shared this charming anecdote before, but I learned to read and write phonetically. When I was in the first grade, we had a "newspaper" (The First Grade Times--I named it meself, guv'nah) where all the kids wrote little articles. I wrote a little ditty about my Dad's exploits in the war, and how my mom hoped my Dad was never in another war. Except that I spelled it "whore."

What kind of floor did you get Ginny? I know ceramic tile is upposed to be all the rage but I hate mine - it's freezing cold in the winter, if you drop anything on it it breaks into a million pieces and on top of it mine is as dull as dishwater.
My stove is black with an almond top and my dishwasher is black and my refigerator is almond. Since the stove is only a couple of years old and the dishwasher was brand new in October and since the refrigerator has not given us a lick of trouble in 17 years I wouldn't want to replace any appliances either (though I know everything is supposed to be stainless these days.
I just want a new ceiling, new floor, those awful tiles gone ( which I know will mean new sheetrock because I am sure the sheetrock will come down with the tile. )
I'd really like new windows too - all our window are original in this 1955 house.
Maybe it's time to start investing in those Lotto tickets again! :D

Chuck Mangione's Bandmates Die in Fatal Crash
Posted Feb 13th 2009 1:10PM by TMZ Staff
Two members of Chuck Mangione's band were among those who died in the plane crash in Buffalo last night.
A publicist for the famous jazz musician identified the band members as Gerry Niewood and Coleman Mellett. Through a rep, Mangione said, "I'm in shock over the horrible, heartbreaking tragedy."
The band was supposed to play a show in Buffalo tonight. That show has been canceled.

My parents wedding anniversary is 3 days before my birthday. I announced to my first grade class that my parents got married and three days later I was born. The teacher called my mother, who explained to her and later to me that I was actually born 2 years and 3 days after the wedding.
I didn't understand what all the fuss was about
Of course these days no one would think a thing about it!

Blue, but something subtle. Yes, we have Lowe's, closer than HD, so we might go there after dinner and take a look.
As for the floor, we had 9" dark brown squares that showed every grain of salt that fell on them and the corners of the squares started curling. I wanted a solid piece of vinyl in light colors - no seams and much easier to keep clean than a dark color. The floor is basically white, with a light blue and gray pattern.

I never saw Pal Joey. All I know is the Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered and I never knew it came from Pal Joey until the Vixter brought home the Playbill

In my DVD burner right now about to be burned onto a DVD is the 1925 silent movie version of "The Wizard of Oz," starring, written, produced and directed by Larry Semon, that was broadcast on TCM a couple of months ago. If you only know the story from the Judy Garland movie, you still won't know the story from this version. It was co-written by L Frank Baum, Jr., yes...the son of the original author, but Robert Osborne in his introduction says that this version of the story (which Larry Semon had wanted to do for years) really has nothing to do with the original story in the books.
You do know DS Betsy's maiden name was Semon, don't you? I'll let you draw your own conclusions... ;D
Is that why she married a man with an uncanny resemblance to the Cowardly Lion?
-
I'm thinking the silestone or corian-type product, gray-specked -- like beach sand.
That sounds nice. I am trying to think what colors I should use since I want to keep my oak cabinets and black and almond appliances. Vixdad and I both really like various shades of blue but I am not sure if it would go with the appliances.
However I did see, on one kitchen redo on the TV recently, a backspalsh made up of small glass tiles (maybe 1' square) that were various shades of blue mixed with black and that looked very pretty and might work - I cannot remember what they did for the countertops though, and they used white cabinets.
-
Remember that the backsplash is what "dates" your kitchen the most. At least that's what I learned on HGVT.
-
And that's all I know about kitchen remodeling.
-
I'm thinking the silestone or corian-type product, gray-specked -- like beach sand.
I also would love to redo my downstairs bathroom also original from 1955 with it;s yellow and black tile and yellow fomica counter top. That is exactly the type of countertop I want for the bath. I would love for the rest of teh bathroom to be all white so I could change the look by bringing in different curtains and rugs and towels and pictures as the seasons change - maybe blues with light houses and boats in the summer , browns and golds and pictures of colored leaves in the fall etc etc
-

You can buy the sinktops and vanities at Lowe's or Home Depot for a few hundred dollars.
Now see, that would be do-able. The kitchen places all talk about $15,000 - $25,000 to redo a kitchen - that is just crazy talk as far as I am concerned!
-
Can't remember if my memory is correct, but I believe Mr. Geissman used to play with Mangione regularly.
-
The biggest problem with redoing the downstairs bath ourselves is Vixdad doesn't think we would be able to get the old tub out and a new one in . The builders must have put the tub in befoe allteh walls were up in the house because the doorway and the window are too small to fit a tub ,plus the hallway is too narrow to get teh tub through even if it fit throught the door.
I wonder if we could get the current one (yellow) re-enambled. It is a sturdy cast iron tub and it really holds the heat of the hot water for a long time - it just is dull from 54 years of use and cleaners etc.
-
I had every intention of going to Hugo's until I got outside and felt how cold it was. Hugo's loves to keep their restaurant a little chilly, so I just picked up some packages and got a sandwich from Subway and came home to the blessed heat.

You can get a bathtub redone for a couple hundred dollars. It might not last too long, though.
The plumber had to remove our old one -- he did it with a sledge hammer and took it out in pieces. The plumber's assistant (his son) and friend put the new one in. They were young and strong. You might ask a plumber about putting in a new tub. The tub itself was only about $300.

I really am not in the mood to be at a three-hour rehearsal, but I'm working on it. Meanwhile, listening to Elmer Bernstein's music for a National Geographic Show, and waiting for more actors to commit. I still need a Juanita, Eddie, and Dick Davis, plus a few more people to read the ensemble roles (which are plentiful). I guess I've been deluding myself - I thought when we'd cut Arvin from the show that we'd gotten the principal roles down to nine, but I see they're still ten.
-
For dessert I had a little mousse thing I'd gotten at Gelson's last night - small but very tasty.

I'd rather be warm and cozy in the home environment.

Our GUESTS keep looking at the SAME threads over and over and over and over - it's really mind-boggling, actually. The Frozen Pipes, for example - very popular with the populace, GUEST-wise. As are others. It's not like two or three times, it's like eight or nine times.
-
You can buy the sinktops and vanities at Lowe's or Home Depot for a few hundred dollars.
Home depot is having a bathroom sale so you can get the sinktops and stools even cheaper right now
-
Oh, Lord, I have to leave in about twenty minutes.
-
I just know the rehearsal room is going to be FREEZING.
-
I'm going to try and keep my time tonight to two hours - just don't want to be there until nine, and it's the last evening rehearsal for me.
-
Wear lots of clothes and you won't be as cold
-
I was trying to get a ticket to see Faith Prince (Alex Rybeck--music director) I left a couple of messages and no callback. I will have to try next week. I have to admit I was disappoint with no call back.
Tonight, I'm ushering for a (non-musical) performance by Sarah Vowell (http://www.washingtoncenter.org/season/season_detail.asp?event_id=1009) at the Washington Center for the Performing Arts. I think tonight will be another fun evening!
-
And then tomorrow night, I'll be ushering for Glorious, the show that TCB is in, in Tacoma! ;D
-
Well, I need to leave now, so have a good rest of the evening, all!
I hope my DVRs record everything that I have set to record! :-\
:D
-
I'm back from a loverly dinner with our DR Jose and the company was splendid. We went for Mexican food and I had a margarita which will keep me happy for a few weeks. Now i'm all settled in for the evening.
-
I think I need some brownie. I am going to make some.
-
Now i'm all settled in for the evening.
I've been settled in for the evening since 4 p.m.
-
I wish I was settled in for the evening. It's funny - Sean cancels and rescheds almost 100% of the time - EXCEPT tonight. Oh, well, I'll be on my way shortly.
-
Lord
That woman is me.
-
I have been eating things that are not good for me much of the day, and now I am reaping the fruits of my labors. :P
-
That'll learn me!
-
THE STORY OF MY LIFE acutally reunites TWO of my friends from CMU, and both are understudying: Bradley Dean and Jim Stanek.
I enjoyed Will Chase in RENT:FILMED LIVE ON BROADWAY last night. As a matter of fact, I enjoyed the entire dvd.
-
Lord
That woman is me.
Scary, very scary.

I have been eating things that are not good for me much of the day, and now I am reaping the fruits of my labors. :P
Need some Beano?

EASY RIDER has always been one of my top ten favorite musicals; I might even rank it in the top five. . .

EASY RIDER has always been one of my top ten favorite musicals; I might even rank it in the top five. . .
I said something very similar in the thread. ;D
I received a nice email from my "review boss" lamenting the insufferable putz™'s behavior and thanking me for my consistently civil responses.
-
And then tomorrow night, I'll be ushering for Glorious, the show that TCB is in, in Tacoma! ;D
:D

I am tired. That is all. And work again tomorrow!

CFIA recalls another peanut snack product

OTTAWA — The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has added another U.S.-made peanut snack product to its recall list related to the salmonella outbreak in the United States.
The latest item being recalled is the Titan six-layer crunch bar in sample size, single bar and 12-pack boxes. The CFIA said the bars may have been distributed across Canada.
There have been no confirmed illnesses in Canada associated with the consumption of affected peanut products.
The salmonella outbreak has been blamed for at least eight deaths and 575 illnesses in 43 states and more than 1,550 products have been recalled in the U.S.
The CFIA agency has posted a list of recalled products on its website, as well as links to the websites of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, Petsmart and the Canadian Humane Society, which list recalled pet treats.

How very strange. I have had LAND OF MAKE BELIEVE running through my head all day today.
...And just a few days ago, a friend of mine was talking about "Feels So Good" and how that tune, well, made him feel so good. And then I asked him if he had ever heard Liz Callaway's version of "Land of Make Believe"...

I do not flog my monkey.

Don't you mean "insufferable pedant" rather than "pendent"? I don't think I'd ever — not even in my WILDEST delusional states — envision you as an adornment that hangs from a piece of jewelry.
Actually... DR Ron Pulliam, what you are referring to is a "pendant".
A "pendent" is defined as follows: Relating to the concave triangular segments composing the structure of a dome, something pendent may be viewed as any member of a support system (i.e: a section of a dome; or, organically, a parent/guardian in a nuclear family).
*Bonus question: Can you name one or two songs from the musical theatre canon that contains the word "pedant" in the lyric.
-
I may have shared this charming anecdote before, but I learned to read and write phonetically.
So, were both spellings "applicable"?
;D
-
And now for something completely different:
MY KID CAN MODEL BETTER THAN YOUR KID (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fOqKI6Tj-mw)
-
Had a very eclectic evening of viewing.
I began by finishing the last two MURDER SHE WROTE episodes in the box set. DR JRand will be interested to know that Carroll Baker was the principal guest star in the season finale. Her husband William Katt was having an affair with Carroll's personal assistant. Thing didn't end well for several of them.
-
I watched a dvd tonight, courtesy of DR JMK. You were right, this is one helluva good show. . .and its length does indeed leave you wanting more.
-
Is it the actual word "pedant" or some form like pedantic or pedants?
-
Is it the actual word "pedant" or some form like pedantic or pedants?
The actual word "pedant".

What will tomorrow bring, the pedants query
:)
-
Next, I got a jump start on my work project for tomorrow and watched SHADOWS. I had never seen this before, and while I could certainly see its revolutionary quality with in-your-face improvised filming and acting, right in the streets of NYC, many of the actors were painfully bad at improv. Themes are introduced that don't get explored in any meaningful way. (dating across color lines, losing one's virginity, frustrations in trying to get a foothold in show business), and I found myself growing impatient with its determined lack of interest in story or character, as if simply filming in the streets was enough to insure something of interest. In 1960, I'm sure it was different, but 50 years later, not so much.
-
Next, I watched last night's 30 ROCK. One of the more hilarious episodes in its history. I really laughed a lot; there are some truly great lines in the episode, taking place on Valentine's Day.
-
I ended my evening with tonight's GHOST WHISPERER. Not one of the more memorable episodes for me. I don't understand why Melinda felt the need to lie to Sam/Jim. It's a small town and her lies were sure to be revealed.
-
I'm going to write just a small little amount and then head down to bed.
Good night!
-
Just finished enjoying Clint Walker and now am off to bed.

Just finished enjoying Clint Walker and now am off to bed.
Oh My!!!! I think that's a little too much information :)

Ghost Whisperer spoiler question
She's so intuitive, so why didn't Melinda know that she was being televised?

Did Jose leave without telling us the songs that include the word "pedant"
-
You can buy the sinktops and vanities at Lowe's or Home Depot for a few hundred dollars.
Now see, that would be do-able. The kitchen places all talk about $15,000 - $25,000 to redo a kitchen - that is just crazy talk as far as I am concerned!
Our kitchen appliances, which were on-sale, distressed merchandise, ran over $7,000!

Back from rehearsal - all three hours of it, most of which was spent with me rewriting and adding and subtracting to the patter - which, if he got all my changes written down correctly, will be funny, to the point, and not too labored. As always, I make the performer write the stories and ideas, then I shape it and add the humor. Since he'd never sent me a final copy to work on I had to do it on the fly as we went - but I'm good at that and it came out pretty well. I think we're going to make one huge cut in the set - a five-minute non put-together of three R&H ballads that comes way too early in the show.

Did Jose leave without telling us the songs that include the word "pedant"
I'm still here. Well, at least I'm back.
-
As for the use of the word "pedant" in a lyric - and I do believe I know of two, but I am only sure of one of them. -I need to double-check the other one. In any case...
Here are some clues to one - and possibly the only one - of them:
-The word "pedant" is more spoken than sung in the song.
-It is part of a list.
-The musical it is from is based on a movie.
-The song does appear on the original cast recording. Well, one of them.
-
What will tomorrow bring, the pedants query
:)
Well, there's always...
Pedant. Pedant. Pedant-pedant-pedant-pedant....
(To the tune of the theme from "The Pink Panther")
::)
-
And since we're just a couple of minutes away...
At 2:25a.m. EST, The moon will be in the 7th house and Jupiter will be aligned with Mars (for 18 minutes) For the first time since 1962.

-
I gotta tell you. Listening to CDs and relaxing for the next thirty minutes, at which point I'll write the notes.
-
And in other news... About ten hours ago...
CNN International reports that two people have been taken to hospital following crash landing at London airport; 72 people on board.
:-\

Listening to the wonderful Singers Unlimited - a two CD set of their three acapella albums.
I assume you have the "big" boxed set that I think I convinced DAW to get sometime last year. Heaven.
-
Now this is cool:
New York Times Article Skimmer (http://prototype.nytimes.com/gst/articleSkimmer/)
-
I don't think this is a box set - it's a regular CD with two discs - compiling their three acapella albums for MPS (I think). I got it at Dusty Groove, my new home away from home.
-
Well, since I'm not sure I can stay awake for the Dawning of the Age of Aquarius...
Goodnight.

Is is, indeed! :)

Very cool indeed, DR JoseSPiano!!! Another "Twitter" alert? :)

The joint is just jumping. ::)
-
I guess I'll head back to bed.
-
But first, anticipating the topic change:

-
I'm sure they made a simple mistake, just like the young DR JMK.
-
Or something like that.
-
Will we never get to page fourteen?
-
Will the already written notes reference a certain lover's day?
-
Will Pope ever eat shav?
-
How many posts can I make before midnight?
-
I bet we can get to page fourteen in the next minute.
-
Of course, it would be easier if everyone hadn't WUSSBURGERED.
-
I think it's only a matter of time.
-
Or perhaps it's only a time of matter.
-
Well, it just turned midnight.
-
I really should go and post the notes.
-
And now I shall.
