Well, you've read the notes, the notes added up to a malady, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - for them, the MOOlady lingers on.
-
And the word of the day is: REBOANT!
-
Good Morning!
I'm up, I'm up... Well, I'm still up, so I might as well post.
*Just been catching up on emails and such. Oh, and the DVR too. There was a LOT of Good TV earlier tonight!
-
As for the Word of the Day...
"The gun shots fired in the canyons during "The Searchers" were reboant."
*I hope I used that correctly.
-
As for the Topic of the Day...
I would love to go back in time and have dinner with George Gershwin. -Mainly because I would hope that he would at some point during the meal head over to the piano and start playing one of his "improvisations".
-
And as a result of today's visit to MoMA, I came across another quote to add to my list of Favorites:
Color is a keyboard. The eye is a hammer. The soul is the piano, with its many strings.
-Vassily Kandinsky
-
bk - Glad to hear that everything worked out for and during the reading.
-
And from today's NY Times:
John McGlinn, 55, Restorer of Musicals, Is Dead (http://www.nytimes.com/2009/02/19/arts/music/19mcglinn.html)
*And, yes, DR elmore is quoted in the Appreciation/Obituary.
-
OK... Now I really must get some sleep.
Goodnight.
-
I am up,
I had too much sleep during the day and I can't get to sleep now - dang
-
And as a result of today's visit to MoMA, I came across another quote to add to my list of Favorites:
Color is a keyboard. The eye is a hammer. The soul is the piano, with its many strings.
-Vassily Kandinsky
This is lovely

good night Jose

I have taken a liberal dose of NyQuil and am going to bed.

Thanks for that link, DR JoseSPiano.
And thanks to you and DR elmore3003 for the theatre reportage! :)

bk, glad the reading went well, despite the last-minute adjustments.

***VIBES OF COMFORT & SUPPORT***
for the friend of DR Edisaurus!!!!
-
DRs Ginny and JRand58, there won't be a picture anytime soon...although I paid for the glasses yesterday, they won't be ready for 3 to 4 weeks. :(
-
Thank you for all the vibes on behalf of my friend.
After only 36 hours, it seems that they caught the killer:

I am up, but I was also up until 2AM, so I don't *feel* very up....
-
Great question for Mandel, bk. Thanks!
Glad to hear the reading went so well!
-
~~~~~~~Sinus and throat soothing vibes today, bk!~~~~~~~
-
And the word of the day is: REBOANT!
And The Song Of The Day Is: STRIKE UP THE BAND
-
Edisaurus, my DH was reading a story on CNN about the cancer researcher this morning -- I didn't realize it was the same person you were talking about.
I'm glad they caught the killer. And did it so quickly.
-
TOD (sorta): Sandra and I were talking recently about traveling back in time. She has a list of people whose butts she plans to kick when time travel is invented.
-
Thursday morning greetings! I'm waiting for a call from my aunt, who needs to be taken to the optometrist to select new glasses. Wonder if she's ready for "sticker shock."
-
DRs Ginny and JRand58, there won't be a picture anytime soon...although I paid for the glasses yesterday, they won't be ready for 3 to 4 weeks. :(
my goodness, that is a very long time for glasses to be made. I hope you like them after all that trouble and expense. The first pair of progressive lenses I had made I had to bring back because they were unusuable. However teh 2nd pair (which I am still using) I adjusted to very quickly. Of course I started wearing bifocals when I was 16 so that may have aided in the speed to which I took to progressives.
-
Thank you for all the vibes on behalf of my friend.
After only 36 hours, it seems that they caught the killer:
http://www.ajc.com/news/content/metro/atlanta/stories/2009/02/19/calle_0220.html?cxntlid=homepage_tab_newstab
She was a beautiful and very young looking woman! What a terrible thing to happen. I hope it will give her family and friends some sense of comfort that the killer was caught
-
DR Edi - I'm so sorry about the tragic death of your friend's friend.
-
Thursday morning greetings! I'm waiting for a call from my aunt, who needs to be taken to the optometrist to select new glasses. Wonder if she's ready for "sticker shock."
The last time I got the Vixter glasses and also when I got her contacts I went to Walmart. She is very happy with them and they cost about 1/4 of what I would have paid at LensCrafters or PearlVision or Davis Vision.
The Costco and BJ's near me also have eye doctors and I am considering using one of them for my next pair
-
I ended up awake for most of the nigt. I am going to have to try and force myself to stay awake all day so I can get back on schedule.
-
TOD (sorta): Sandra and I were talking recently about traveling back in time. She has a list of people whose butts she plans to kick when time travel is invented.
Will she go back in time and kick their butts when they were tots or travel to the future and kick them when they are old?
-
One of the things I was watching, while not sleeping, was Littel Miss Perfect on WE about the kid beauty pagents. They featured two nine year olds, one who ended up winning the while shebang and the other that "only" made the top 10.
I was just amazed at the expense and time spent on these things. The kids in their natural states were just regular looking kids but they not only had them all made up but they have wigs and teeth appliances and dresses and other outfits that cost hundreds if not thousands of doallrs...
It was just ....weird
-
Good morning, all! I just saw the McGlinn obit, and it's very nice. I'm glad that my life can now get back to some semblance of regularity. This afternoon I have a reading to attend as well as a visit to City Center Encores! office to pick up some things.
Today, more Act Three BABES edits before I leave the apartment.
TOD: only one?
-
DR Edisaurus, I'm also sorry to hear about your friend's friend. It's very shocking when something like that happens to someone we know.
-
It was good to hear that the KILLER was caught! Shocking events!
-
Sounds like the reading went well...even if there was an unexcused absence.
We have a dusting of snow this morning, but the cold has returned!
-
TOD:
Hmmmmmmmmmmm.......I guess that I would like to have dinner with Richard III just to see what he would say. I would not reveal my ancestry until late in the evening.
-
fast work by the police department on finding the "suspected" killer. Usually the PD are not that lucky
-
BK I had a question yesterday that I believe you might have missed. I have recreated it below.
ASK BK
Does the soundtrack of The Americanization of Emily include the song Emily? I know they didn't use it in the film and wondering if it was recorded before it was dropped. (It's still given a credit in the opening titles)
-
TOD
Does it have to be a famous person? I really would like to talk to my paternal grandfather. I would like to hear more of his stories about his life, he told me some but he always would stop and talk about an old man rambling....and then I couldn't persuade him to go on
He had so much to tell that I never heard. And some of the stuff I knew I have forgotton. This was before we had camcorders - oh to have hours of him on tape to listen to how I would like that
-
TOD:
After watching the Jerome Robbins show last night, I think I would want to go back in time to have lunch with him to convince him to go publicly punch out that bastard Ed Sullivan instead of bending over to his blackmail threats and naming names to HUAC.
-
Assuming language was not a problem and we could converse in modern day English Leonardo Da Vinci or Queen Elizabeth I would also be fascinating dinner companions
and I always wanted to meet Helen Hayes and Katherine Hepburn.
-
Oh, BTW (Bring Two Wedgies in internet lingo), my mysterious malady turned out to be nothing more than a combination of a 24 hour bug and lower than normal blood sugar. I'm feeling fine now--in fact, I made it to the office today.
-
Good news, DR DtM!!!
-
DR vixmom - hope that you can get "back on track," sleep-wise, and that your recovery continues to progress rapidly.
-
Vibes for DR Edi's friend. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~`
That is such horrible news.
Since it went to 11:30pm here i watched most of it, but watched the end when
i woke up. I also was not thrilled about the first 5 minutes. But truthfully my
favorite chef was fabio, followed by jeff. So i was happy to see him. And i also
thought jamie was a great chef and should have lasted longer. So truthfully all
i was saying when i saw those 3 (jeff, jamie, and leah) was please not leah. i
really did not care for her on this show. Anyhow when jeff won i was happy but
knew the chances of him winning the elimination (he had to win it to go to the
finals) were not that great. But then when i found it if he stayed that meant
fabio and stefan were gone. Well i did not want that. I thought they were the
2 best chefs overall. I was happy for carla (she won the challenge and the car).
But i really wanted fabio and stefan in the finals. I do think stefan seems
stronger. But fabio was my favorite and i was very very sad to see him go.
He is this season .He is so funny and charming. I love watching him. I do
agree with him. I think that stefan should take this easily. I do not really
want hosea to win. I do like carla a lot. And she has done great lately. But
she did not do well at all in the beginning. And i just don't see her as a top
chef. But she is a wonderful person. And so lovely to watch. Such positive energy.adjdfkjldfskjldfskjldflkjdfsiuodfiuoiuodfs iuodfiouioudfiuoioujkkjlkjjk kjkjkjkjkjkjkjkkkk
I was not at all surprised since that was what dialidol predicted. I didn't think it was nice though how they told the contestants. And i thought it was particularly mean to do that to tatiana. I thought she was about to pass out. Did she or anyone actually think danny was not going to make it? He is so popular.
I will say that i'm not liking this format at all. Only letting 3 go thru is not enough. Because people like michael who got featured and who are not very good get through. And then some people who are better (but who were not featured) have no chance. The only slim chance these people have is if they give a hugely fantastic performance and a) either the judges praise them so widely that the fans vote for them or b) the judges put them through. kdfsakjldfskjldsflkjdklkjlljkjlklkjkjl
I donno..I felt a twinge of disappointment, almost like this was the show's "jump the shark" episode. It just seemed too pat an explanation as to why all of the Oceanic Six (plus two) had to be on board Flight 316. And the thing about Jack having to get something of his father's to give to Locke? I just felt that it was stretching things a bit.
What I really LOVED was whatever is going on with Kate. It is such a sign of terrific writing and acting when you know a character so well that you can tell that there's something up by how she is simply behaving. Last night, Kate was shown to be so remote and sad and inconsolable that you know that whatever she did with Aaron took something out of her beyond just giving him away. I cannot wait to see that story!
What I worried about--did Ben fullfill his threat to kill Penny or did he just get the shit kicked out of him in his attempt? I can wait to learn about that...
What I hated--a little too much telegraphing: you know that the guy who consoled Jack in the airport check-in line is going to show up on the island, too. Plus I think the preview for next week's episode clearly gave away a major plot point. Grrrrrr...
-
Glad you're feeling better dan the man.
Thanks, DR Jenn and thank you, everyone!
And now I need to do some actual work here...
Well, surprising NO ONE, my aunt has backed out on today's trip. She'd been watching TV and saw that the "roads were bad and schools were closing." Of course, that's all in northern KY and SE Indiana, but here it's clear and sunny. It is awfully cold and very windy, so maybe it's just as well not to take an almost-80-year-old out today.
-
Happily, I am immune from impugn. :)
-
DR GINNY - isn't it nice that some people are predictable?
-
Time machine?
I would have loved to have known Carole Lombard.
-
Good morning!
It was raining again when I fell asleep last night, but I awoke to a bright, beautiful day! Supposed to be 50, and it felt fairly warm (for February) when I went out to get the newspaper.
-
Page Three Dance!!!
-
DR DRUXY - I hope your friend Miss Diane McBain is reading the inner nit reviews of PARRISH - in each one I have read (and from those writing here at HHW) - her work is being complimented and her beauty is being called "stunning" and "gorgeous" - about which I agree.
-
On TV Tonight!™
ABC - UGLY BETTY, GREY'S ANATOMY, PRIVATE PRACTICE
CBS - SURVIVOR, CSI, ELEVENTH HOUR
NBC - MY NAME IS EARL, KATH & KIM, ER (THE OFFICE and 30 ROCK are reruns)
FOX - BONES, HELL'S KITCHEN
USA - BURN NOTICE
-
DR Elmore,
Please don't forget about BURN NOTICE!!
-
Can't wait to see tonight's BONES. I really miss it when it's not on!
-
Once again, it looks like a holiday for me unless some review item comes in the mail. So far today, nothing.
But that's OK since I have a ton of TV from last night I want to watch (LIFE, LAW & ORDER, CSI: NY, DAMAGES, JEROME ROBBINS).
-
Oh, DR Edi,
I did check out the Jerome Robbins biography on SD as well as HD. On HD, it filled the widescreen (except for 4:3 interview excerpts and Tony Award performances filmed that way).
In SD, the picture on my screen was windowboxed (black bars on all four sides) so I saw the widescreen image with black bars surrounding it.
-
DR Elmore,
Please don't forget about BURN NOTICE!!
:-* :-* :-* :-*
DR Matt H, thanks for the reminder! This week has been so crazy, but in a good way, that I needed the reminder.
-
Well Ginny at least you have the day to yourself!
I have been busy reading all the back postings I missed when our computer was broken.
Congrats to JMK on his new car!
-
Good Morning!
I'm up, I'm up... And I'm glad the sun is out today. :)
-
As for last night's "Lost"...
-And I don't think a SPOILER WARNING is needed... And I already referenced this last night, so...
I really liked the reference to "The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe". -And I'm wondering how much that reference will end up playing out in the rest of the series.
-
Well Ginny at least you have the day to yourself!
...
Yeah, and I'm really tearing into this room of mine. I need to get my home office organized to accommodate my new retirement identity. I'm also glad I'll be home for the "free estimate" from the leaky basement repair guy that Richard has scheduled for this afternoon.
-
How funny -
Today's strip on my desk "Dilbert" calendar refers to "a hole in the back of our wardrobe closet that leads to a magical world of preposterous business assumptions."
:)
Wow, that one must have zinged right over my head. What was it? (PM or email). BTW, I never did get to see whatever video it was you sent on FB (Trader Joe's).
Never mind, Jose. ;)
Could someone please email Larry and tell him the MP3s are queued but are taking forever to send. Even my non-MP3 email to him is queued, so I can't get through to him. Thanks.
DR Matt H, thanks for the reminder! This week has been so crazy, but in a good way, that I needed the reminder.
I must head downstairs now to get cleaned up for my lunch out with friends. What a beautiful day to have lunch out!
DR DRUXY - I hope your friend Miss Diane McBain is reading the inner nit reviews of PARRISH - in each one I have read (and from those writing here at HHW) - her work is being complimented and her beauty is being called "stunning" and "gorgeous" - about which I agree.
Unfortunately, Diane no longer has internet access.
-
BTW, I never did get to see whatever video it was you sent on FB (Trader Joe's).
I think it's one of those FB privacy, account access issues. Sorry. :-\
-
MP3s are evidently getting to NYC, despite still showing in my "outbox." This morning has been so weird, like I'm on some kind of time lag. Maybe it's all that LOST watching.
-
DR vixmom - If you feel like want to, need to take a nap today, just set an alarm. Nothing like a good cat nap to refresh you.
-
DR Dan (the Man) - I'm not sure everything was so "pat" in last night's episode of "Lost". After we watched it here, we counted up the number of backstories that still have to be filled in. Still a bunch of loose ends, why's and how's.
-
Hmm.. Joy Behar will be filling in for Larry King tonight... And one of her guests will be Ann Coulter... Hmm...
-
The Malady Lingers On.
So does M'Lady.
Well Ginny at least you have the day to yourself!
Yeah, and I'm really tearing into this room of mine. I need to get my home office organized to accommodate my new retirement identity. I'm also glad I'll be home for the "free estimate" from the leaky basement repair guy that Richard has scheduled for this afternoon.
That's the other thing that is frustrating me. There are so many projects I would love to tackle around the house. Here I am all day and I am forbidden to lift more than 10 lbs and I exhaust so quickly. When I finally get my energy back I won't have the time to do anything since I will need to get back to work!
Tell that to Akai, which had a proprietary Beta (remember Beta?) *sound* recording 24 track system that was very popular in the late 80s and early 90s. I have two quite wonderful songs (if I do say so myself, which I do) locked away on tapes that I'll probably never be able to hear again.
I'm not sure I can resolve your confusion as to why all the adults who got off the island went back. They went back because they HAD TO. In theory, all their friends who were left behind would be in danger until such an event transpired. If the answer has to be something more concrete, you're wasting your time with the show. There are never going to be answers that rationally explain everything because the island does not operate under the laws we recognize when it comes to science and reason.
I think Kate took Jason to his grandmother who was in LA. That's who Jack thought had sent lawyers after Kate until he learned she was there for a totally different reason. Kate went with him to the motel where she was staying but I don't recall if he told her who was there. At any rate, I think Kate had another visit from Claire. I think Claire told her what to do. She had, last season, warned Kate to never take Aaron to the island. Since Claire's mother was in LA, I think Claire directed Kate to her and asked her to give Aaron to her.
I think Charlie probably visited Hurley....either Charley or Echo or Michael (unless Michael somehow survived the explosion on the ship).
I think next week's show is going to be a flashback to John after he left the island and all his efforts to get the others to go back. I'm not certain we are going to see John "rise" from anything yet...especially since he was in a suit, rather than in a cloak.
Until we see Sun, I'm going to have to consider the possiblity that she did not return. And what of Frank, the pilot? Is he back or did he land his plane safely on Guam later on? I think "how" they got back onto the island may have more to do with whatever power transported Ben to a desert after he moved the island than it has anything to do with a plane crash.
BK I had a question yesterday that I believe you might have missed. I have recreated it below.
ASK BK
Does the soundtrack of The Americanization of Emily include the song Emily? I know they didn't use it in the film and wondering if it was recorded before it was dropped. (It's still given a credit in the opening titles)
Shame on you, BK! My having posted a link yesterday for Michael that would lead him directly to the site where he could see the CD set's contents and listen to samples, including the song "Emily", was not "from you."
Please answer Michael at your earliest opportunity.
ACTUAL "LOST" SPOILAGE HERE
As for last night's "Lost"...
-And I don't think a SPOILER WARNING is needed... And I already referenced this last night, so...
I really liked the reference to "The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe". -And I'm wondering how much that reference will end up playing out in the rest of the series.
Hmmm...I did see you mention C.S. Lewis last night. I'm trying to think what that reference could be. The guy at EW also mentioned there was a connection but I'm not making one right now.
I need to ponder on this one...
IIRC, it had to do with Ms. Hawking's reference to a window being open...and that various windows open at various times, depending upon where the island actually is.
Nathan Fillion is a wonderful actor, personality, talent and he has tons of charisma.
This show looks very interesting to me and is one of the few new shows I'm really looking forward to.
Any thoughts on NBC's upcoming "Kings"? -I'm sort of pre-disposed not to like it because of all the commercial trailers they've been running in movie theaters over the past couple of months. Every time one started, I would think it was some sort of soft-drink promo, and then when it would finish, I still wasn't sure exactly what was being advertised. -And neither did anyone else in the theatre. What was that?
I have to admit that the commercials for this show did nothing to entice me to watch it..... but, as I also like Nathan Fillion a lot, and now that I know the premise of the show, I will most certainly tune it and I hope to enjoy it.
Good Afternoon!
Well... I did step out of my apartment for a bit a little bit earlier. I wasn't sure what I was going to do, or where exactly I was going. -Just one of those days. Well, I happened to notice that a film crew was at St. Nick's Pub, so I started walking up there.
As I pass the subway entrance, I hear an anguished cry of "Oh, Sh*t!"... I turn around... A homeless woman starts pulling down her pants... Sits on the bumper of someone's car... And well...
I took that as a sign that I should probably stay inside today and take care of some stuff around the apartment. -And it started drizzling too. So... :-\
-
Hmm.. Joy Behar will be filling in for Larry King tonight... And one of her guests will be Ann Coulter... Hmm...
Almost as much fun as the old-time Ladies' Wrestling from Rainbow Arena.
In case anyone was/is wondering where I've been (not that it seems anyone was/is) - I awoke at eight-thirty to find Time Warner Cable completely down. There was a recording on their phone line saying there was an outage in my area and environs. They had no ETA. So, I did some stuff, then did the long jog, and at about 11:55 I'd had it and could see the modem was still not working. I powered down the computer, grabbed it, my hat, and my keys to go over to Panera. As I was about to leave the modem suddenly came to life, as did Airport Extreme. I put everything down, powered up the computer and Time Warner is back. Unbelievable.
Panera Bakery? They just started here about a year or so ago. I love their hot chocolate , potato soup, wild rice chicken soup, breakfast souffles, strawberry poppyseed salad and danish rings
I'm not too fond of most of the sandwich offerings or bagels though.
Lunch ran very late, it was colder than I expected (a light jacket wasn't really quite enough; I won't make that mistake when I'm out tomorrow). When I got home, there was a review disc waiting - IRONWEED.
However, IRONWEED is 143 minutes long, and I only had two hours left in the afternoon viewing window, so I'm saving IRONWEED for tomorrow.
-
Instead I watched four items on the DVR. I began with the Biography of Erik Estrada which played last night. Well, he WAS a hunk in his younger days, but that ego! Wow!
-
Next, I watched last night's LIFE. Interesting case with some fun lines and situations. Good murderer, too, that surprised me.
-
CSI: NY was next, and it had a very mundane case with an easy to identify murder. A. J. Buckley had a chance to deliver a really nice performance. He was the best part of the show. Craig T. Nelson was the primary guest star.
-
I skimmed through today's AS THE WORLD TURNS. The boys were on, but can Luke be any more impulsive and wrong-headed? The real drug dealer/ supplier is SO obvious.
However, I do enjoy seeing Kevin, so this little (lame) murder mystery is worth watching just on the fof chance that he'll show up.
I finished watching the Jerome Robbins doc - very good. Can you imagine one of today's self-obsessed "actors" working with someone like Robbins? The person who caused trouble here last week has repeatedly said I was very difficult to work with and that none of the actors at the Chance Theater liked me. First off, if that's true they sure never said it to me, and several of them have continued to work with me. I had problems with two actors in that production (three, once it opened) - and I had to be very hard on them, and with good reason. One of them came through with a terrific performance because of it, and one remained impossible (the troublemaker). The other actor was wonderful through opening weekend, then proceeded to change everything that worked about the performance until it was a caricature and awful. My point is, at no time was I anything remotely like the tough taskmaster that Robbins was. Robbins would have fired the two actors or he would have destroyed them verbally. But today's breed of actor is all about the actor being in control, the actor making all the decisions, the actor, the actor, the actor - selfish and ultimately harmful behavior - to themselves and to the directors and to the piece. End of rant.
DR Vixmom i agree with DR Cillaliz and think it is an honor to be asked to be a bridesmaid. Your future sister-in-law is asking because she wants you to be in the wedding party.
And i disagree about the age thing. It might be one thing if she was 20. But if she's in her 40s then there is really not that much age difference.
And who knows maybe she won't do the frilly dress thing. AT my sister's wedding she picked the color and let the bridesmaids and me pick our own dresses.
I would decline, but then I wouldn't want to wear the dress with the butt-bow.
DR Jose, it seemed to be beginning while I was at encores! today, and the apartment is feeling much cooler this evening. I thought the temperature might be dropping quickly.
I saw the forecast earlier today, I just didn't think it would "feel" so drastic.
Matt Ashford a no-show???? Hmmm.
You didn't happen to find a Volkswagen Beetle with North Dakota license plates buried in your hedge?
-
DR TCB - Score ONE for you! -Well, more than one! ;D
-
Yes, the forecast for the next few days is much cooler than it has been but by the end of next week we should be up into the 50s.
I have taken a liberal dose of NyQuil and am going to bed.
Yes, stay away from the conservative NyQuil.
I'm seeing Garden of Earthly Delights on Sunday afternoon. I've heard great things about it. It's a theatre piece by Martha Clarke. It's based on the painting by Hieronymus Bosch. It was done in NY in the 80s at the very same theatre where it is being revived (The Minetta Lane).
Thank you for all the vibes on behalf of my friend.
After only 36 hours, it seems that they caught the killer:
I just got a ticket for Blithe Spirit. I'm not crazy about seeing the very first performance but at least it's a ticket. If I like it and it's on TDF again I'll go a second time or I could just buy a last row balcony seat (which is the same price as this TDF ticket).
Now if only Guys and Dolls and West Side Story would get on to TDF. Guys and Dolls has been is on TKTS every time that I've been in Midtown and checked the board.
I loved UGLY BETTY! And we have a new regular on the show now: Daniel Eric Gold.
I want to dish the dirt. . .but, alas, I have no dirt to dish. . . .
My dirt is under my fingernails after the yardwork today.
My brother's fiancee has asked me to be a bridesmaid - I am honored of course but I feel a bit like it is dressing mutton as lamb
I am over 50 and a good 10 years older than the bride.
Am I being silly?
Ladies I appeal to you - the other bridesmaids would be her younger sister and some of her friends who I presume to be her age.
They would have Vixdad as well which is fine , men can wear tuxes and look wonderful whatever their age.
The wedding is set for October 10.
They also want the Vixter to sing which would be very nice.
Can Sadie's be bridesmaids?
I just had to sweep and salt the driveways! I am not a happy camper. And the snow continues to fall.
-
Wedding attendants are traditionally women the same age as the bride; they are her peers and sisters, women who know her well and can share her joy on her wedding day. They are also traditionally women who would understand the fears associated with leaving home and having sex for the first time, although in this day and age most brides have done both before the wedding day. In any case, they are the girls she spends her evenings and weekends with, the ones she will call in a crisis or share good news with.
But what if you have an older sister you are close to? Say you are in your 20s and she is in her 40s -- is it okay to ask her to be a bridesmaid?
The key is the asking -- if you want her standing up with you, then ask. If she demurs, find some other way for her to participate in your wedding, perhaps by reading or singing or lighting candles. If she agrees, have her help choose the bridesmaids' dresses, and keep in mind that she may not want to wear what your 20-something friends are wearing. Give her the option of something age-appropriate but similar, in color and fabric, to what the other girls are wearing.
Nothing says fashion like the good old sweetheart neckline - modified for modesty.
Other websites suggest that if the honoree is not comfortable accepting a role as a bridesmaid, she might give a personal reading.
DR VIXMOM, I suggest you get together a slide show or power point presentation - it's sure to make the wedding even MORE memorable!
I thought they looked like Tequila Sunrises.
-
DR VIXMOM - to put my two cents worth in seriously - you might consider the request. I do NOT think you would EVER regret being a member of the wedding party that day. He is your brother - she will be your sister - I understand your hesitation. And certainly your apparel should reflect any age difference between you and the other bridesmaid/matrons. Other than that - what FUN!!!
Or a tequila sunrise during an Arizona sunset.
It's the 6 am bus and real quiet. All of a sudden, an old bubbeh yells out "Oy am I thirsty!" "Oy am I thirsty!" "Oy am I thirsty!" And she goes on and on and on at the top of her lungs.
The sleepy passengers beg the bus driver to stop at the next corner and get the kvetch a drink already!
So he does. "Here lady! Drink up! And shut up!"
She drinks the drink. The bus moves on. The passengers nod off again or peek into their newspapers, happy the old bubbeh is quiet. All of a sudden they hear....
"Oy was I thirsty!"
WHOA! ~~~~~VIBES TO DR DAW~~~~~
Read on:
Hi, guys -
Just a quick note before I head off to bed. In between work and while doing errands before heading over to Thursday night choir practice, I was involved in a very serious auto accident. I think I am OK. My car, however, is not. I was sitting stopped in a line of traffic, waiting for a light to change, when I was suddenly rammed, quite hard, from the rear. My airbag did not deploy, but the back end of my car was so crushed that one of the rear wheels could not turn. Fortunately, the other driver appeared not to be harmed either, although the police told me that they don't think he has any insurance.
This all happened more than 30 miles away from my home. So it has been a long evening. I know that it could have been much worse, and I feel very fortunate. THINGS can be repaired and/or replaced. Although the coming weeks shall certainly be a hassle.
In any case, please feel free to share with HHW, if you wish. I am going to bed.
Cheers-
-D
And, as you can see, I did feel free to share his news here.
VIBES TO DR DAW~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
-
DR Jennifer....you're Grey's/ Private Practice friend Addison had a really long night tonight. Makes my stresses seem pretty minor, lol.
-
I also watched the Robbins documentary. It was excellent. I loved some of the actual footage from Broadway show productions like HIGH BUTTON SHOES. I had never seen it before.
The pissy old queen wasn't very kind. If I don't forget, I'll listen to him ooze his way through his radio review of it tomorrow morning.
-
I really enjoyed UGLY BETTY. Excellent episode.
-
GREY'S ANATOMY was very involving. Faye Dunaway was the special guest star.
-
BONES was fairly entertaining, but I didn't like that Booth was only on the sidelines this week.
-
Thanks for the update from DAW. Vibes and prayers!!!!
