As you know, we're releasing two CDs - here is the first of them.

AT LONG LAST - ANYA!  THE MUSICAL MUSICAL

Kritzerland is proud to present the first ever CD release of the Original Cast Recording of Anya, with a score by Robert Wright and George Forrest (based on themes by Sergei Rachmaninoff).

Anya, the musical version of Anastasia, opened on Broadway at the end of 1965 at the Ziegfeld Theater and lasted a mere fifteen performances.  Nobody would have predicted that a new musical by the team that wrote Kismet (here doing to Rachmaninoff what in Kismet they did to Borodin), written by George Abbott and Guy Bolton, and direction by George Abbott would end up being such a troubled production and such a huge flop.  Happily, United Artists Records went ahead and recorded the cast album and just as happily we’re thrilled to finally bring it to CD.  Whatever the show’s problems (it’s been revised several times since), the album is filled with glorious music, excellent performances, and is indeed a most musical musical.  The Rachmaninoff “themes” are masterfully used by Wright and Forrest (no one was better at that sort of thing than they were), and Don Walker’s orchestrations and Harold Hastings’ musical direction make the most out of all of those gorgeous melodies.

The wonderful cast includes Constance Towers, Michael Kermoyan, Lillian Gish, and Irra Petina, as well as the still alive and kicking George S. Irving.  New liner notes are by Walter Willison (Tony-nominee for Two By Two), who was very close to Wright and Forrest.

The CD is a Limited Edition of 1000 copies only.

Digitally remastered from the original album master tapes.  The price is $19.98 plus shipping.

CDs will ship the second week of April – however, preorders placed directly through Kritzerland usually ship one to three weeks ahead of the street date.

And here's the soundtrack release - please keep this one MUM - it's for your eyes only until the official announcement.  This one is going to sell out within hours (I already know what my dealers are taking and I'm simply not going to have that many left).

THAT MAN FROM RIO - CLASSIC GEORGES DELERUE SCORE MAKES ITS CD DEBUT!

Kritzerland is proud to present its newest limited edition CD – the original motion picture soundtrack to Philippe de Broca’s classic That Man From Rio, with music by Georges Delerue.

That Man From Rio hit movie screens in 1964 and was an instant sensation.   A brilliant adventure comedy thriller, the film had it all – adventure, comedy, and thrills and plenty of them, plus the star power of Jean-Paul Belmondo in the lead, along with the stunningly beautiful Francoise Dorleac as his fiancé.  Also on hand were Jean Servais and Adolfo Celi, both terrific in supporting roles.  The film was shot on location in France, Rio de Janeiro and Brasilia (the city of the future, just then being built).  The film was a huge success, especially in the United States, so much so that its screenplay was nominated for an Academy Award.

The score was by de Broca’s frequent collaborator, the great Georges Delerue.  For That Man From Rio Delerue created one of his most delightful scores, one that perfectly accompanied the outrageous action on the screen.  The score has so much variety and humor and melody and beauty, and in so many different styles – from pure adventure scoring to Brazilian rhythms (and some great songs), along with some hauntingly beautiful passages, and all in the classic Delerue style.  The duo of de Broca and Delerue is a triumph of music and image working hand in hand.

At the time of the film’s release, two 45rpm EPs were released, one in France and one in the UK, both comprised of different material and amounting to approximately twenty minutes of music.  Both were very hard to find and became very sought after collector’s items.  Universal France issued what they called a “soundtrack” CD – that had only six cues, three of which weren’t from the soundtrack at all, but were re-recordings conducted by Alexandre Desplat.  The reasons for this, as stated in their booklet, was that the cupboard was bare for Rio tapes in Delerue’s personal archive.

Happily, the cupboard wasn’t bare for Kritzerland and we are thrilled to present every note of Georges Delerue’s marvelous score, all taken from the original tapes.  In addition to the complete score, we’ve included a few things that didn’t make the film, as well as some alternate versions of cues, where tempos were different.  The CD runs over seventy minutes.

Some of the cues are mono, some stereo and are presented here exactly as they were recorded.

This release is limited to 1000 copies only.  The price is $19.98 plus shipping.

CDs will ship the second week of April – however, preorders placed directly through Kritzerland usually ship one to three weeks earlier.

And there you have it.  If you'd like to order, just go to paypal and pay directly to our paypal account address - kritzerland at adelphia dot net.  Whether you purchase one or both, shipping is $3.75.  In fact, if anyone orders multiples beyond the two, I'll keep the shipping at $3.75 for up to five copies.

As most of you know, That Man From Rio is one of my all-time favorite 1960s films - I've probably seen it about fifty times and I never ever tire of it.  It is a real thrill to be able to bring this out - the fact that it was available to license continues to astonish me.  And the fact that MGM had ALL the original tapes in great condition was the icing on the cake.  As you know, I had one intense sixteen-hour day where I put the sequencing together - I'd first had to listen to twelve tapes-worth of material - it was daunting but I think it came out really well.  And the music is fantastic.

And Anya sounds terrific, too.  It's actually quite a nice score, and you can't really beat the tunes of that great Broadway composer, Sergei Rachmaninoff.

I'm thinking it's now probably okay to alert the castrecl group to Anya - so if you'd like to forward them the info it's okay, but be sure to let them know that it won't be available to order until the official announcement, which will be, most likely, next Monday.

Good Morning... the snow is still falling here, school has been cancelled and the Vixter is outside clearing the walkways for the second time.

She got up early and went out at 6:00 to suprise Vixdad with a cleared driveway when he got up.  SHe was shoveling for a good hour and a half to clear all the snow away.

Then she came in to a well deserved breakfast of waffles and hot chocolate milk with mini marshmallows.

Now that she got all warm and cozy again she is back out in the snow.

Yesterday afternoon I went to the Vixter's basketball game.  It was the first time I went out "socially' since December 30.    It was a very exciting game with the Vixter's team leading by a small margin the whole time.  Unfortunately the other team pulled ahead in the last 2 minutes of the game.

Oh well.

It as really nice to be out and about even if it was just for a little over an hour.

Maybe on Sunday I will attempt to go back to church again.

I will agree that last night's show was absolutely riveting. Very interesting to watch.
But i obviously agree with DR Jose. Come on, "a birth, a death...". I get why
they did that. But to me when you announce a death there needs to be one.  It
was slightly ridiculous that kevin kept saying "well rob lowe you actually did die..."
just so that we would know that that was the death.  I was totally expecting a)
the governor to pull the plug on rob lowe, b) david to be hit by a car,
c) something to happen to the kid ryan, or d) tommy dying.  It was a satisfying
episode. But yet unsatisfying because they misled us. But i am sure glad that
rob lowe's character did not die. I love him. ANd was afraid that after

Well, it's starting to snow here again in Philly.  There was not much when I woke this morning on the Jersey side of the river.  I even took the time to clear the walkways before cleaning off the car and driving here to work.  Not exactly the Sorm of the Year they were freaking out about last night on the news, but still, everything looks pretty out there.

The snow is picking up here in Manhattan. Many people are either late or not coming in today. I have a meeting at 3 but one of the main people involved cannot make it to the office because of the snow so perhaps that meeting will be cancelled. Many people here are griping about coming in to the office since all schools in New York City have been closed.

If I recall correctly we are due for rain at the end of the week which means this snow won't be around for long even the snow that's coming right now. The temperature will rise as the week progresses and the snow will be washed away.

Good morning, all! I love New York when it snows; it's so quiet that I slept very late and now the laundry is in the washers, and I have to mop the kitcen and bathroom before I can gwt to work on the BABES libretto and Mr Loesser's wonderful score.

The reviews to GUYS & DOLLS have been very poor, but that's been the gossip on the various theatre boards. I'm not a fan of the director nor the orchestrator but I do feel sorry for Jo Loesser because I love her quite a lot and I know she'd want to see the show a big success. I also know some of the backstage gossip on this revival and I wish the original plan to bring over the last London production had happened.

I cannot order ANYA till Wednesday, so hold one for me! The only Delerue score I want to see on CD is LE ROI DE COEUR and given the movie's cult status, I don't know why it's never been issied on CD.

I didn't find BROTHERS & SISTERS at all unsatisfying, mainly because I hadn't paid attention to the promos and didn't know I supposed to expect a death within the two hour running time. That's one reason I try to pay no attention to previews or promos of programs I like. There are no built-in letdowns when I don't know what's coming. I take what they offer and evaluate accordingly.

What did they do to Guys and Dolls to get bad reviews? Great story, wonderful music, funny characters.

Did they try to re-set the time or hire lousy actors? (We saw a local production they ruined with the wrong actors.)

I'm listening to my usual Monday morning feast of BBC programs. Right now it's David Jacobs to be follwed by Russell Davies and then Alex (a woman) Hall. Tomorrow I will listen to Desmond Carrington.

Ben, what BBC station is this and what do these various individuals do?  Myself, I'm a big BBC 4 fan and listen to a lot of the comedy quizzes...The News Quiz; Just A Minute; The Now Show; Sorry, I haven't A Clue, etc.  I also listen to Danny Baker on BBC London.

It's BBC 2. They are music programs. I've modified my post and included the Web sites for each of them. I also listen to BBC 4 Just a Minute. Great program.

Ben, just went to David Jacobs.  I'm hooked!  Thanks!

Ahh, another convert!

I'm glad I'll be indoors today, however.

I find the least interesting score in terms of composition and orchestration to be CINDERELLA, which surprises me since it's a romantic story. PINOCCHIO sure is beautiful!

As for last night's "Brothers & Sisters"....

POSSIBLE SPOILERS AHEAD

Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Donec ultrices orci non justo. Maecenas tristique. Integer ac felis sed nisl cursus facilisis. Praesent erat. Ut vehicula dolor vel risus. Proin imperdiet tempor arcu. Suspendisse potenti. Mauris interdum hendrerit arcu. Cras rhoncus velit et elit. Cras at sapien quis magna ullamcorper sodales. Aenean varius. Mauris ipsum tortor, feugiat a, viverra et, suscipit et, purus. Mauris eleifend. Suspendisse justo leo, pulvinar et, adipiscing ut, vehicula nec, diam. Quisque ut eros non orci dapibus ultrices. I really did love last night's episode. Yes, I thought the promos were sort of misleading, but that didn't ruin the show for me. In fact, it made it sort of fun to watch. My roommates, Jim and Megan, are true fans of the show - they think of the Walker family as their own. So, of course, when Rob Lowe's character collapsed, well, they both started crying. -And Jim had read an interview with Rob Lowe that said that something might be happening to either his character or to Kevin (Matthew Rhys).  Then after it was made clear that McCallister was going to live, then we started wondering if there would be some sort of shocker later in the episode. -Was Saul going to be in an accident? Was Holly going to run over Tommy? Was Tommy going to commit suicide? Was the surrogate mother going to drop dead after having the baby? Of course, after dealing with my mother's own open-heart surgery, I thought that the Senator's recovery was very fast - and there would have been no way he would have been able to hold his baby and place him on his chest with all those fresh stitches.  But, again, a very good "movie" last night. Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Donec ultrices orci non justo. Maecenas tristique. Integer ac felis sed nisl cursus facilisis. Praesent erat. Ut vehicula dolor vel risus. Yesterday, I rewatched Jeffrey Buttle's World Championship long program, along with the long program of Brian Joubert and an overly cautious Johnny Weir.

Dick Button and Paul Wylie were the commentators for ABC last year and they both felt Buttle's program lacked sufficient point value to beat Joubert (and Buttle had been 4.5 points ahead of Joubert going into the long program).

They were very, very wrong, so far as the judges were concerned.  Buttle's skate -- the best male skating performance I've ever seen -- beat Joubert's by a considerable margin.  And although Button and Wylie were "tski-ng" over Buttle's not having a quad and, presumably, thinking that Joubert's one quad would give him more points than Buttle could overcome, Buttle's technical score was 6 points higher than Joubert's.  Of course, Buttle had a complete program with great music and very sophisticated footwork.  He also landed as many triples as Joubert did, including a three-jump combination.  Joubert was very good, but his content was more attuned toward setting up jumps than working difficult footwork into the entrances and exits to his jumps.  That was Buttle's strength, I believe.

I'll be very interested to see what develops at the World championships this month.

What RLP doesn't even mention our soundtrack release?  What a crazy morning it's been - had a whole barrage of rather silly e-mails to deal with (from the author of the long musical) - I was VERY strong.  Then had to proof and do corrections on the Rio package so I can send that for approval, and am now trying to do the same for Anya - needless to say, no long jog today, but I needed a day off.  Then Linda and Kevin will be here at eleven.  Kevin At Eleven - that's the title of my next novel.

Yesterday my niece (3)and I were making muffins (blueberry/strawberry - her decision).

Right before i was going to put them in the oven she turned to me and said, "auntie, make sure you put on the gloves cause i don't want you to get another burn".

The show i am most looking forward to tonight is MEDIUM.

I don't watch THE BACHELOR but if anybody does and doesn't want to waste their time sitting through it there are rumors (which i'm quite certain are true) about what happens during the show

SPOILERS for TONIGHT'S BACHELOR

MAJOR SPOILERS

This all sounds really weird and sort of icky. But apparently during the show (the first 2 hours) he proposes to melissa (i have no idea who this is but she is one of the 2 left). Then during the After The Rose (3rd hour) he says he changes his mind. ANd now he's with (perhaps engaged) to molly (the other girl).  The only part that interests me is how
long there was between these two events in real time.dsalkjdfkjldfsakjldsfkjldfskjljlkj

Last night Alexander Revisited - The Final Cut.  This is director Oliver Stone's third and final version of his film Alexander starring Colin Farrell.

It is now 3 1/2 hours long.  I did not see the Director's Cut, I only saw the original, but this version is much improved and very impressive.

As Stone says in the introduction, "If you liked Alexander to begin with, you will like it more - if you hated it before, you will still hate it."

Some battles and relationships are clarified.  The CGI is still TOO MUCH, but I really like the costumes, makeup, and music.  And Farrell's character as Alexander is much more the "great" in this version.

If you liked it the first time around - this reedited version might be interesting to you.  It is not linear, time goes back and forth, but titles (especially during the battle that opens the film) will keep you on track.

And it only cost $5 at Wal Mart.

I spent most of the afternoon watching the Blu-ray of BATMAN (1989 version). I've seen the movie many times, and each time I've grown less fond of the Vicki Vale character (played by Kim Basinger). The romance develops too quickly, she's let it too soon about Bruce's identity, etc.

The Blu-ray is not a revelation. It's nice and sharper than the DVD, of course, but it's not a huge leap in quality, and neither is the Dolby TrueHD sound. I think Warners has used DNR some on the film. The people don't look waxy, but I looked hard for some film grain, and most of it looked very smooth to me.

Progressive lenses should work at the computer.  Before you go it might be helpful to measure the distance from your eyes to the computer.

In addition to distance, a key measurement is the angle of depression/elevation (from the horizantal) betwen the bridge of your nose and the mid point of the screen - are you looking up or down at the mid-point of the screen, and by how much; screen size is also an issue.

Here at home, I like to look at the screen pretty much straight-on.  When I was working, this was always a major issue between generations - those of us wearing bifocals didn't want the monitors on top of the CPUs and the young whipper-snappers did.

I really don't quite know what the DRG thing is all about.  As you know, they announced the title over a year ago, and several release dates came and went.  The only problem was that they'd never actually done the deal - how you announce something before actually signing a contract and paying the advance is anyone's guess.  All I was told was that they were STILL dragging their feet and trying to put on some tracks (maybe a demo?) that MGM didn't own.  The gal at MGM seemed not to want to deal with them anymore and just handed it to me.

I had a great time baby-sitting this afternoon. Henry is just such a great kid. Always laughing, always smiling, and he's still cute when he cries or has a tantrum - none of which happened this afternoon. Instead, I spent most of time half-watching the "Sponge Bob" movie with a two-and-a-half(!) year old napping next to me. It was very nice just to be "still" again for a little while.

Since you've indicated 80% of the 1000 are already gone, I didn't want to get too excited lest my enthusiasm made them all go away before I got my chance to order one...or two.

I'm trying to get a shopping list together for the market. I need dish washing detergent but IO hate to go out in the cold for only that. Hmmm . . .

Use shampoo.  Your dishes will not only be clean, they'll be soft and managable.

What a capital plan! Since I use Head & Shoulders, I guess they'll be dandruff-free as well?

One hopes!

I think when the official announcement hits, Anya will do just fine.  I have no worries about Rio since it's basically sold out before it's ever announced.  I'll probably only have 100 or so to sell via Kritzerland, maybe 150, but I don't get many more soundtrack orders than that anyway.

My favorite Clint acting-only movies are the Dollars trilogy and Dirty Harry.  Directing-wise, I'm rather fond of High Plains Drifter, The Outlaw Josey Wales, Unforgiven, and a few others.

With Anya due and the "secret" out soon, we're really getting down to just a handful of OCRs that I'd love to see on CD:

Donnybrook!
Good Old Bad Old Days (OLC)
Gone With the Wind (OLC)--yes, I'm a masochist

A Time for Singing

So, Bruce, you have your marching orders.  ;)

Trust me, JMK, you don't want DONNYBROOK on CD.  I gave it another chance a while back, when I had all my records transferred to CD.  Man, it's an almost unlistenable slog!

Well, maybe it's the mere presence of Susan Johnson, but, DONNYBROOK is one hand-made cd that gets a lot of play here.
I have hand-grown copies of the other ones, but, the one that has been getting a lot of play lately is A TIME FOR SINGING;  I have not attempted a listen at GONE WITH THE WIND yet. . .

The optician just called to check on how I'm doing with my new glasses and she's concerned about my inability to use them at the computer.  I'm going in tomorrow morning for some diagnostics that may result in having the lenses remade.

Good, vibes it works!  Progressive lenses should work at the computer.  Before you go it might be helpful to measure the distance from your eyes to the computer.

I am encouraged by 2 things:  1) that I've had progressives before that were fine for computer use, and 2) that Debbie, the optician, is not satisfied for me to need a different pair of glasses to use the computer.  She's a pro.

Additionally, there have been power outages in various neighborhoods.  -However, I can't seem to find any reports about icing causing the downed power lines.  ???

I saw the second version and it was a bit of a mess.  I just got through watching Stone's W. though and it's wonderful.

The problem with getting cinematic with Alexander was that...he was GREAT.  He sort of rose rapidly to prominence and went from triumph to triumph. Not much inherent drama in that.  It was the problem with the Burton film; it's also the problem with the Stone film.  As tortured as you try and make him, he still succeeds in his goal and his quest.  Once he gets the father issue sorted out with Philip of Macedonia, there just ain't all that much conflict in his life.

My lord, were there ever a lot of bonus features on the BATMAN release. All were ported over from that 2005 deluxe box set of the four films, but I'd never bothered to watch any of them before today, and it took me until 8:45 to get to everything. (I started around 5:30). Very comprehensive coverage of the making of the film in all its aspects.

When I finally finished those bonus features, I watched '24.' Season 7 is shaping up to be the best-ever season for the series. I was riveted from beginning to end, and the second hour was even more tension-filled than the first hour. I could NOT stay in my chair it was so tense.

They are firing on all cylinders on '24' this season.

Speaking of opera, didn't MEDIUM seem a little soap-opera-ish tonight?

Finished with my viewing and am now listening to the sequenced and edited That Man From Rio - the soundtrack proper, which runs about fifty-two minutes.  He'll upload the twenty minutes of bonus tracks tomorrow.  But this sounds great and all the edits work beautifully, I'm happy to say.  The sixteen hour day was definitely worth it.

I just finished watching a strange, very strange movie starring Paul Newman:  THE SILVER CHALICE.  I had never seen this before.  Great franz Waxman score and a bizarre production design, not to mention Jack Palance's tights covered with what appear to be black procreaters (for want of a less unseemly term).  Compelling viewing, though not necessarily a good movie.  I enjoyed it for what it was. . .

I watched the cut of the Kevin and Sean show - unfortunately all my beautiful dissolves on the ballads have gone missing, and I'm quite annoyed by it and have sent the editor a strong note.  Hopefully he has the previous cut with all the dissolves so he can recreate them, because I certainly am not going to waste my time doing so when I've already done it.  Other than that, it's really quite good, save for one little awkward thing in one of the song intros, a really easy fix.

Jimmy Fallon seems very nervous on his first episode.

This is my first season and they sure have me hooked - I really like the fact that they can move the action along so fast, keep a few sub-plots boiling away 'till they're integrated, and still keep sense of the whole shebang.

I even find the split screen work constructive, not distracting.

I just finished watching a strange, very strange movie starring Paul Newman:  THE SILVER CHALICE.

When it was first released we were all hoping for a wide-screen Quo Vadis - and boy did it disappoint.
