Title: GOOD ACTOR!

Well, you've read the notes, the notes were well acted, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're currently studying MOOthed acting.

I think I'll toddle off to bed in about thirty minutes.  In the meantime, perhaps I'll have a biscotti - the ones I bought are half of a regular-sized biscotti and therefore half the calories.  And I'm jiggy with that.

If he needs to know, the picture that I used was originally the old size of 110x150 pixels.

I love Mobile Me.  Whenever I put something on my iCalendar or in my address book, it automatically synchs it to my iPhone and other computer.  Amazing.

Try changing the pixels, maybe that's how to get it bigger.

The original picture was bigger, but when I uploaded it as an avatar, it was resized to be the small size by HHW.

Let me try hot-linking a different and much larger picture from my MySpace account to see what that does.

Title: Re: GOOD ACTOR!
Post by: George on March 13, 2009, 12:48:32 AM
Well, that's interesting.  The picture displays at the 65x65 pixel size, but if you right click (on a PC) and view the properties, it does show that it's linked from my MySpace photo album and if you save the picture, it's the full size picture: 600x450 pixels.

I would think (hope?) that there must be some sort of administrative setting where you could set or change what size avatars are allowed to be.

Title: Re: GOOD ACTOR!
Post by: George on March 13, 2009, 01:02:11 AM
Well, I changed the picture one last time.  I took the MySpace (600x450) picture and changed the size to 450x450 and uploaded it to my personal Photobucket account.  I linked that picture as my avatar but it still displays as 65x65 pixels here on the board.  However, when I go to update my profile, the picture that is displayed there is 450x450.  Weird, huh?

I have been watching on a recommendation from a friend a TV series called Dante's Cove.

The best way to describe it is an omni-sexual (mostly gay) soap opera. A combination of Dark Shadows, Melrose Place, Sex in the City, Queer as Folks. The writing and acting is bad. The scenery is gorgeous. (It is filmed in Turks and Caicos)

The Dark Shadows building blocks are there

A curse man who is over two hundred years old. (Barnabas)
The woman who cursed him. (Angelique)
The cursed man's unwilling helper (Willie)
The object of the cursed man obssession (Victoria) instead of a woman it's a man.
The boyfriend of the above character (different characters)

It is like watching a train wreck (I know it's a cliche, but I think it really fits)

I watched episdoe 1 (pilot and 2) They are both 90 minutes or so.

Here is a poster for season 2

Good morning, all! Last night around 8:30-8:45 I received a rather unnerving phone call that really burned my ass. I was so angry about it that I couldn't sleep, and I slept uneasily the whole night. When the alarm went off at 7 this morning, my impulse was to stay in bed but I need to get to Toyland ASAP, finish the Piano-Vocal edits and meet with my colleague Curtis on how we should deal with the situation. Oy!

When I return home, I have cello and bass parts to finish for Act One Scene Three of Mr Loesser's mighty score and begin layouts for Mr Ron Raines' concert. I need to invoice since I've got my health insurance premium due at the moment. I hope to spend most of the weekend on concert work and the Babes In Toyland libretto.

DR George, I love you but your avatar creeps me out.

I set my DVR to catch that broadcast, too, and I was watching when it started, and there are SO many digital artifacts (and the print they used was less than optimum, too) that I knew I wouldn't enjoy watching the movie on a homemade DVD. This is definitely a film that's going to require an anamoirphic transfer to get the best possible chance at decent picture quality. So I stopped the recording and just deleted it.

Because we are in the midst of the ACC Basketball tournament, none of the CBS shows tonight are being shown in their regular timeslots for me. The CBS affiliate will broadcast them in the wee small hours of the morning (but not in HD which REALLY makes me furious). So, the only TV I'll be watching tonight will be shows on the DVR (in HD) recorded earlier this week.

I also missed yesterday's AS THE WORLD TURNS since the tournament preempted afternoon programming, too. I think the affiliate will play those shows during the early morning hours during the weekend.

My work project today (and maybe into tomorrow) is the TV box set for ANDY RICHTER CONTROLS THE UNIVERSE. It only ran one half season, and NBC didn't show all of the episodes. I think I watched about five or six of these when the show was on. The box contains the entirety of the filmed episodes. It was kind of fun, so I'll look forward to seeing it again and also the unaired episodes which will be new to me.

There was a character actor back in the 1940s-50s with the same name.  He was short, stocky, usually played cops or heavies.

Any relation?

One of the things I like most is NOT being tired all the time.

And, DR Matthew, we've had trouble adjusting to the time change, too.

Well, I'm sure I've seen the Partridge Family episodes, but I would have been about 12 at the time, so I don't remember them.

Is there a drug or something to help people over this hump??

I've heard of frequent business travelers using melatonin (http://thetravelinsider.info/2002/0517.htm) to ease the effects of jet lag, but I have no idea if it really works.

I am home - I am not feeling well.  That is all....EXCEPT thanks to DR JOSE for sending a lovely Theatre Care Package to me.

Such exciting and interesting goodies, I shall look at them this afternoon - making me feel better - since the other item I got in the mail made me feel worse - an additional IRS tax levy for 2007.  I looked it over, wrote the check, and mailed it.  Not sure how that happened, but what can I say?  It's only $466.   Whew!

Druxy,

There was another actor name John Pleschette (not sure of the spelling) stocky, balding...lots of heavies, cowboy black hats, and cops.  But I first became aware of him on a show in the early sixties, where he played a good guy-- a tough heart-of-gold sergeant in the Civil War (Union side, I think).  The series, if I recall, was called THE AMERICANS, and starred...hmmm...was it Daryll Hickman and Dick Davalos as two brothers who went off to fight in the Civil War on opposite sides.  One week would be an episode about the Union brother (Hickman?); the following week about the Confederate brother (Davalos?).  It came out during the Civil War Centennial craze and was very short-lived.

Boy, my memory is pretty good.  I just check The Americans out on IMDB and got the principals actors right and which sides their characters were on in the war.  But I think the actor Druxy and I are thinking about is John Doucette, close to Pleschette...but no cigar.  At least he was the actor I was thinking about.  His character got killed after two episodes.  John McIntyre and Slim Pickens were also in the series.

John Pleschette is, I believe, married to Lynn Pleschette, a respected Hollywood literary agent.

Hello all!

Yesterday the ENT doctor's assistant called and apologized for the doctor not calling me back.  Apparently his appouintments ran late and he had to run out for a meeting

so I  did a little grocery shopping and then went to the public library and took out a couple of books the Ann Rice "Christ the Lord" books.  I read a few chapters of the first one 'Out of Egypt"

Then I ate a little spaghetti with meat sauce and took a short nap

The Vixter woke me around 6:15 and we got ready to go to the high school for the 7 PM curtain of High School Musical

The auditorium was packed which is unusual for the Thursday night show - and it was full of students not just theusual parents ans siblings that show up

I have never seen the Disney TV movie so I wasn't sure what to expect.  It was fun.  The kids were all pretty good and a couple of the boys who were playing the basketball players (The Vixetr told me they really were on the basketball team)  must have studied gymnastics at some point  because they did some very cool backflips and one handed handstands that had the crowd cheering

We got home at 9 and I got a can in as I knew I didn;t get enough calories during the day and then I settled down to watch ER.

Right now, I'm making a DVD of "Light in the Piazza" that I recorded on TCM.  I also have the musical version "The Light in the Piazza" from PBS on my DVD burner and will make a DVD of that soon. :)

I noticed the artifacts also, but they lessened as the movie went on.  I figured that it's going to be a long time before it is released on DVD (if ever), and I wanted the movie, especially since I'm also making a DVD of the PBS musical. :)

Then, I began watching ANDY RICHTER CONTROLS THE UNIVERSE. I got 7 episodes watched this afternoon. (There are 19 in all; the show ran part of two seasons). It started out as a Walter Mitty-type show, but there are fewer flights of fancy as the series has progressed. Now it's just a quirky comedy.

And it didn't run on NBC; it was a Fox series.

So...My first 48 hours in Charleston have most certainly been "full".

After I got in Wednesday afternoon, I went ahead and headed to Harris Teeter to stock up on groceries and stuff for the apartment. As luck would have it, almost all of the food items I needed and wanted to buy were on sale or were part of some sort of "VIC" ("Very Important Customer") special.  I managed to save about $40 off the regular prices. The company also provided me with a bunch of the basic cleaning supplies, and it was nice just to bypass those aisles.

I'm still without cable TV or internet at the apartment, but they're supposed to be installed Tuesday morning - which really isn't that far away.  Thankfully, a couple of the Resident Artists have apartments equipped with DVRs, so I'll be able to watch my usual line-up of shows somehow or another.  -Although, at this point, the only two shows that are "must-see, must-not-miss" for me are "Lost" and "Ugly Betty".  -And I can also watch both of those online.

I also listened to the commentaries with two of the episodes on disc one. The first commentary was for the pilot, and it was interesting hearing how various people got cast and what scenes were shot and cut. The third episode on the disc (I don't think the episodes are in the order of production) also had a commentary, but it was less interesting; Richter and the show's creator/head writer had pretty much shot their wad on the pilot as far as comments.

It's a bit "cooler" here today in Charleston too.  As was yesterday.  Rain is supposed to move in sometime tonight, but it should clear up by Tuesday.  -Which is perfect timing since, due to the performance schedule of the Resident Artists (RAs), will be my first almost-totally free/off day here in Charleston.

I did attend the "Director's Circle" opening night presentation of Picasso at the Lapin Agile last night.  It was a very good production of a very quirky play.  The RAs handled the script very well, and there were some very nice directorial touches too.

Since it was their "Director's Circle" night, they had a pre-show reception and a post-show reception. Wine, beer, soft drinks, and light hors d'oeuvres were served before the show.  After the show, there was more wine, beer, and soft drinks as well as a très grand brie en croute (with caramelized onions and picholine olives), paté de foie gras, lots of baguette slices with various spreads, as well as an omelet station and a crepe station.  -All French food to go with the French setting of the play.  Even the hors d'oeuvres were served on artist palettes.

*And the caterer tipped me off to a couple of her favorite restaurants too.

I did "discover" the Mount Pleasant Towne Centre (http://www.mtpleasanttownecentre.com/index.cfm) earlier this afternoon.  It's one of those malls that isn't set up like a traditional, enclosed mall, but would provide a better shopping experience if it was set up like a traditional enclosed mall.

That sounds like fun!  I would have been hovering around the crepe station.

I remember back in the late 70's and early 80's when there were some restaurants called Le Crepe that I used to go to as often as I could.

There was one on Long Island in Massapequa  (home of the Baldwin boys, Jessica Hahn, Joey Buttafuco , Jerry Seinfeld and two of of my  former boyfriends amongst other notorious people ) and one in NYC (by the Met if I remember correctly)

The next time you're in the City, you may want to check out one of the locations of Creperie (http://www.creperienyc.com/).  They're basically order-at-the-counter and wait operations, but they make great crepes.

I am only going to work 9 - 1 so I will not be having lunch at the office.  It takes me up to a half hour to eat a single piece of toast and sometimes I make the most unpleasant noises as I atttempt to swallow my food so I would not subject anyone to that.

I also would not subject anyone to watching me tube feed myself.  I think it looks gross and disgusting although both the Vixter and Vixdad have told me it's "cool".

Once I can eat normally again I think I will have to visit there!  I do love well made crepes!

I have tried in the past to make them myself but I dontl seem to have the touch that keeps them from getting tough and rubbery.  Of course I haven't tried to make one in years- maybe I should think about trying it again....

Hello, everyone.

Today was Hospital Visitation Day. The friend I am staying with became ill a few nights ago. Thinking it was that horrible virus that's been going around, I wasn't too worried. Yesterday morning he went to the doctor and they put him right into the hospital. He's doing better now, fortunately, but I still went over to visit. My doctor's husband, who helps with her practice, had surgery earlier in the week at the same hospital. I stopped by to say hi to him as well.

Aside from fielding phone calls from relatives, I am now Chief Dog Walker. Said dog is a Siberian Husky, a well-mannered dog, but strong enough to pull me down if he decides to chase. I am emulating Caesar Millan (The Dog Whisperer), and attempting to not become "accident-prone" like our DR Jane.  ;)

Well, I did indeed take a nice walk. Since there are no sidewalks along the access roads in this here part of town, I just drove over to the Whole Foods and walked around there for a while. Up and down each aisle.  I didn't buy anything, but I made a lot of mental notes for possible future purchases.  It's a very "basic" Whole Foods - no in-store smoke-house, no in-store wine bar, a smallish bakery and prepared foods section.  However, they do have an in-store brick oven pizza station.

*I am such the child of food-service parents - and amateur food stylist: as I was walking by the salad and prepared food bars, I would occasionally "pretty up" the trays by giving them a good stir and/or rearranging the food so that everything was being properly cooled or warmed.  ;)

Just had an e-mail that I somehow knew would be coming - I was waiting for it, and it arrived.  From a lawyer asking me why I thought I could put out That Man From Rio without obtaining the rights from the recording rights holders - said lawyer representing the estate of the composer.  Every time I put out a new soundtrack release I hear from someone and it's because there are two people who are trying to cause me grief on every release.  Each time, I respond and I never hear anything again.  This one was especially fun, though - I specifically left out of the press release any mention of how I was doing the soundtrack, knowing that one of these two creeps would do their dirty business.  I gleefully answered the e-mail, suggesting that the missive might be better sent to Universal France and its producer of soundtracks who think that just because they get tapes from composers' estates that somehow gives them the "rights" to put out the CD.  Universal France put out three selections from the Rio soundtracks, which was all they could get from the composers' cupboard, which, according to the booklet notes, was bare for Rio.  Wonder why?  Could it be that all the original elements were with the RIGHTS HOLDERS?  Which is how I got them.  By licensing them.  From MGM Music, Inc.  Oops.  Think I'll hear back?  I told him that any further correspondence should go to them, but somehow I don't think they want to open THAT can or worms.  He wanted an immediate response and boy did he get one.  Contracts are wonderful things.

I would think the excitement over the change from 1899 was perhaps not as intense as the millenia madness about the transition from 1999 to 2000, but it's the next century to me.

Is there a drug or something to help people over this hump??

I've heard of frequent business travelers using melatonin (http://thetravelinsider.info/2002/0517.htm) to ease the effects of jet lag, but I have no idea if it really works.

The first night I take a mild tranquiler to get to sleep.  Sometimes it takes two nights to regulate my body.

As for Daylight Savings, I'm fine.  I seem to do better with the Spring change than in the Fall.

Well, the good news is that we won't have to be taking as big of a pay cut now...insteads of 16 furlough days between March and June, we now only have to take 6.

Sadly, my car needs 4 new tires and my refrigerator is making the most unpleasant noises...so I see some big payments in the near future.

I do wish that I had not already purchased my plane tickets, however.

That is because, just like everyone in my family, you didn't listen when I said to wait ;)  Can you put the tickets on hold & use them at a later date for a fee?  I'm really sorry about your tires and frig.

Yes, I am the PACK LEADER. My rule is this: when I walk him, we go at MY pace. That means nice and steady and NO CHASING. He--his name is Bandit--gets the steady part, but not the NO CHASING part. He's good with other dogs, but loves to chase cats and other critters. today he wanted to chase a plastic bag that was blowing in the wind. "No, Bandit. That's a plastic bag." Tonight we walked at dusk and saw TWO rabbits! The first rabbits I've seen here. Of course he wanted to chase them, too. I use the word "NO!", but maybe that special sound Jose mentioned works better.

I just had the funniest London phone call from Kim Criswell; she makes me laugh.

I LOVE Kim Criswell!!  But you already knew that, Elmore...didn't you? :D

I do indeed! She's going to be playing the Mother Abbess in THE SOUND OF MUSIC in Paris at the Theatre du Chatelet in December. She was trying out ways to say "what is it, Maria, you can't face?"

Congratulations on your win Cilla!  That Gabe is a cutie!

Thanks Vixmom.  I was very excited to learn I will be seeing Gabe tomorrow.  I haven't seen him since August, so it will be great.

In local new:
The jurors report they have verdicts on 85 of the 87 counts against the "Serial Shooter."

I would think 85 death sentences would be enough

There were assorted charges of murders and multiple counts of attempted first-degree murder, aggravated assault, drive-by shooting, firearms charges, cruelty to animals and arson.

Early on, they were shooting dogs and horses. The police said then they were worried because people who do that usually progress to shooting people. They were right.

I just have to say that Jon Stewart is f*****g BRILLIANT! I hope he wins another Peabody award. I just watched (on-line) the Stewart/Cramer smackdown and when I wasn't laughing I was highly impressed at how articulate Stewart was at expressing the anger of the "regular" guy.

There is also a VERY funny bit about Kevin Bacon and those famous Six Degrees. Click on Bern After Pleading at

The Daily Show (http://www.thedailyshow.com/)

Absolutely--I watched that "live" last night in complete and utter awe at Stewart's genius.

I assumed that there were all sorts of counts.  I also assumed he would be convicted, as he should have been.  And you are right, animal cruelty usually progresses to human cruelty - if it isn't happening at the same time.

I was sort of joking about the 85 death sentences.  Probably not too funny, but I'm assuming he'll get death on the murder counts and as I recall the sentencing code in Arizona he'll definitely be leaving prison in a box.

I guess I should be glad the local CBS affiliate showed ACC basketball all evening so I didn't have to interrupt my work project. Since I watched non-stop, I was able to watch the remaining 12 episodes that I hadn't already watched so I could finish the disc set tonight.

There were also two bonus features on the set (along with the comentaries which I had already listened to).

In the first, the creator and the five lead actors remembered fond stories about making the series. They've all aged very well in the past six years. Of course, Padget Brewster is on CRIMINAL MINDS now. The others, I guess, do guest work. I know I've seen them in various roles over the years.

The other bonus feature was a throwaway segment in which each of the five wondered what the universe would be like IF Andy Richter did indeed control it. And then, what would the universe be if he or she controlled it. Nothing of great interest was generated.

They said he could serve the sentences consecutively. Honestly, we don't want him ever to be out again.

These guys struck late at night to early in the morning. They kept me from going for morning walks. One of their victims was killed a quarter mile from my coffee place.

The trial started in early September. I should think those jurors would want to go on with their lives.

I can't even fathom a trial lasting that long.  Did they go all day or do they still just do afternoons?

There is no way they will get anything other than consecutive sentences.  They won't get out again, I wouldn't worry about that

Some of their victims still have shot pellets (or whatever you call them; I don't know from guns) still embedded in their bodies and will always have physical problems. Not to mention psychological ones. They paralyzed the one who just had a stroke recently.

That's really sad.

On another sad court case related note, there was a case in federal court here about the butter additive to microwave popcorn and how it made one of the workers at the factoty ill.  The jury deliberated 6 days and awarded nearly 8 million dollars to the plaintiff.  Unfortunately he died the night before the jury returned

Back from judging and then Musso and Frank with the divoon Karen Morrow and Susan Egan.  More in the notes.  I'm eating the most extraordinary caramels I've ever eaten - homemade by AMDA teacher and wonderful B'way performer Jane Lanier.

Funny story - after Taize prayer this evening, the vocalist (who is a friend of mine) and I were re-hashing the evening (which was not as good as last week, but whatever...) and we started talking about wind instruments.  She began to tell me that one of her piano students was taking band in middle school and they were discussing the experience.  The student told my friend that the student did not do "blow" instruments.  Well, I had the hardest time keeping a straight face, but she kept repeating the "blow" instrument phrase over and over without missing a beat.

Well, I went to Borders with my 40% off two DVD box sets and the titles that I thought that I would want were "Doctor Who: The Complete Fourth Season," "Slings and Arrows," "Beauty and the Beast: The Complete Series" (for my sister) and something that I can't now remember.  The only title that they even had in stock was "Doctor Who," but the coupon required that two box sets must be purchased to get the 40% discount. :P So, I called my friend Margo and she had my buy "Gilmore Girls: The Complete Fourth Season."  A good deal for both of us!
