Well, you've read the notes, the notes did their act, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're doing their act at the Stockyards and they're slaying them.

Good morning, Dear Readers.

The evening with Jonathan Schwartz was lovely.  He arrived a bit late - although he didn't mention it to the crowd, the car he was riding in was side-swiped in NYC.  He was OK, and he just took a taxi out to the Westchester suburbs.  The format of the evening was an ad-lib commentary on American Standards, sort of like he does on his radio show, illustrated with songs [he brought his accompanist, Tony Monte].  His singing is actually pretty enjoyable, and of course the stories he told were great.  He knew anybody who's anybody.  He also read short excerpts from his memoir and took audience questions.  Started around 8:30 and finished around 11:00 PM with an intermission.  All in all a most enjoyable evening.

Last night a group of friends watched Goldfinger (Blu Ray) and was surprised to find out that two of them had never seen the movie before.

It was watched on a LCD and the quality of the movie looked like it was shot yesterday. We listened to the 5.1 DTS audio. It worked very well on the title sequence and several other sequences but for the most part it was quiet in the surround area.

But restored image and film were very nice. I meant to look at the sky to see if it was blue, but I forgot to. However I didn't notice any brown which is one of BK's pet peeves.

I was really sick yesterday afternoon. I get headaches (minor ones) every week or two. But yesterday i had just a horrible one. The pain was so bad i was almost crying.

It's especially scary because i've had migraines before (2 times). And one time i had to be hospitalized. So for me i'd almost rather break my arm then get a bad headache.

I took some motrin at noon. But the pain stopped for a little bit then increased by a lot. But 3:40pm the pain was very severe. So i took something stronger (atisol i think it's called).

I was supposed to go to dinner but didn't think i'd be able to. But my 6:30pm it was much better.
I brought earplugs (since sound was really bothering me) and said i might have to leave early.

The weird thing was the restaurant was so loud. And at the beginning (even with one ear plug in) it was all whizzing around in my head. But luckily it got quieter and i started to feel better!

I'm just reading the posts from yesterday and see DR dan's mention of earth day. I tried to turn out all the lights at 8:30pm. But i was just getting home so i had to keep one light on.

Interestingly yesterday at the mall for earth day they were giving out free brita watering filtration systems. I am looking forward to trying this. Does anyone have this?

RE: PITTSBURGH

I don't think that this film got any sort of theatrical release.  As I recall, it aired on A&E or Bravo or one of the other cable networks as a "special".

I spoke to Ed Begley about the show awhile back and, it's my understanding that, although they were trying to keep it light, the film is (essentially) an actual account of Goldblum doing THE MUSIC MAN in Pittsburgh.

I didn't find it very funny either.  Indeed, there are several moments that are "painful".  But, according to Begley, what happened happened.

Good morning, all! My friend David Byrne wrote the score for the film PITTSBURGH, and I do want to see it. I was invited to the NYC opening but didn't make it. I don't remember the reason. Could I have been in LA with THE BRAIN FROM PLANET X at the time? Perhaps.

Today's a BABES IN TOYLAND day; my colleague Peter Foley has gone through my Main Report and made some good comment on the grammar, syntax, etc. and I'm now taking his notes and rethinking my text.

I wanna see FINIAN'S RAINBOW again!

I am getting really tired of the shock of newscasters at the fact the people in Fargo volunteered so much to fill sand bags etc.   I would have been shocked if they hadn't.  I just don't believe that people wouldn't come out anywhere if they knew there was a way to prevent their town/house from being destroyed.  This isn't something new.

Greetings from Fort Atkinson.

Anthony is at Sentry, the grocery store and I have a few minutes before we leave for Brunch at the theatre and then two performances of The Fantasticks.

It has snowed here. When I arrived on Friday there was not a flake anywhere. The weather was in the low 30s. Last evening after the show a light snowfall began and by the time we woke up this morning there was about 2 1/2 inches of snow. Very pretty! Then I went out to clear off the car while Anthony took care of some things in the house. I haven't done that in years and years (clear off a car covered in snow, that is). It was actually kind of fun. I don't know that I would want to do it on a regular basis again but it was easy. The snow wasn't a frozen kind so it didn't take all that much time.

The show is excellent. I'll be seeing it three times total (yesterday and then two performances today, they only had one matinee yesterday due to less than stellar ticket sales). Today I'll see one of the understudies go on as Luisa. The director wanted to give her a chance to perform the show and the actress playing Luisa was fine with that so she will have an afternoon off and perform againg this evening.

Anthony (as you might expect) was wonderful as Bellomy, Luisa's father.

TAXES!!!!!

Yep, I spent all morning (from a little after 7 until 1:30) doing my federal and state income taxes. It was backbreaking and headache-inducing work even using  a tax program since I have all these portfolio transactions that have to be listed and that take forever to enter.

But the happy news is that for the first time in many years, I'm getting money back from both federal and state. That makes all the trauma this morning worth it.

However, I had planned on working on DOUBT (Blu-ray) today, but I'm really not in the mood to do any work having just spent all these hours this morning working. I may watch the movie tonight and work on the bonus features tomorrow. Since there is nothing on TV I'm interested in tonight, that may be the best solution.

Had a nice lunch, but I still feel as if I'm on some kind of other worly schedule. I haven't read today's newspaper yet. I am running about an hour beyond my normal Sunday routine. I did get laundry done and folded, but I'm not sure if the bathroom will get cleaned today. That may have to wait.

I also watched the end of the figure skating last night to see Evan Lysechek's long program in HD. It was beautifully skated, very secure with the jumps and though his style isn't my favorite, it got the job done.

I also went back and watched Caroline Kostner of Italy's meltdown on ice, really sad and skated at the novice level of difficulty (lots of single toe jumps). I saved it so I could go back and watch the champion's long program again (even though she did have one momentary slip-up).

I have programed this to record.  I'm a bit confused as to the number of episodes.  I read in 2008 there were 14 episodes.  I have read currently there are 8 or 5, depending on the article.  Ok, I see on the Masterpiece Theater site there are 5 episodes.

While setting this up to record the following Little Dorrit: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0095530/  This 3 hour film is from 1988 & includes Alec Guinness (nominated for best supporting actor) in the cast.

I may opt to watch the movie instead of the series.

Back from the signing - a bit of a joke for me personally - this show is different than others - it's not people hawking their books, they're just there to sign what people bring them, for free.  So, I only sold a couple, but I had a good time and the author who was at my table before me, Harry Turtledove, turns out is a fan of mine and saw What If and read Writer's Block.  Go know.

Michael S., what was the experience like, swimming with the dolphins?

Well you didn't really swim with the dolphins. They call it an interaction. You pet it, feed it, burp it (not really) get it to do some tricks and the highlight is when you go into deeper water and you hold on as it swims you to shore. It was a thrilling experience and made my 50th a memorable event.

Following is the explanation of the 2 part Little Dorrit, & why one part can be shown without part 2.

According to Wikipedia:
"Little Dorrit lasts 360 minutes and was released in two separate parts of approximately three hours each. The first part was subtitled Nobody's Fault, an allusion to one of Dickens' proposed titles for the original novel, and the story developed from the perspective and experiences of the Arthur Clennam character . The second film, entitled Little Dorrit's Story, took many of the same events and presented them through the eyes of the heroine. Together they represented separate but overlapping chronicles."

I paid mine yesterday, it wasn't a pleasant experience.

Little Dorrit has an amazing cast of characters,  and i'm still figuring out who everyone is. The leading man was Mr Darcy in the Kiera Knightley PRIDE AND PREJUDICE, and Tom Courtenay is quite wonderful as Little Dorrit's father. Andy Serkis of LORD OF THE RINGS is the evil Ragaud.

But there was so much other good food that I took a barbeque ribs dinner from Three Brotherz home for dinner.  They were the best barbeque ribs I've ever had and the baked beans...YUM!

I did some yard work, played with the cats, backed up my computer and installed some new software in the Wind.  Relaxing and nice...  I like days like this

It is, without question, my least favorite Bond film ever and that includes A VIEW TO A KILL and DIE ANOTHER DAY.

I have not bought the Blu-ray for it yet, and unless I can find a really attractive price for it, I may not get it. I didn't replace the old Special Edition DVD with the Ultimate Edition because I have just never been able to stand the movie.

Why am I so late logging onto the site?

I paid mine yesterday, it wasn't a pleasant experience.

Sorry you had to pay. I know how you feel, though. I have had to pay for at least the last ten years. This year is an anomoly.

I'm not even able to e-file this year. Because there were so many sell-buy transactions, an e-file is not permitted.

I spent my entire evening with DOUBT on Blu-ray.

I have never seen the play onstage, and I only knew the bare bones about the plot. I thought it was terrific. Loved all of the actors, and what great writing, a real thinking man's movie! Viola Davis' Mrs. Miller! Wow! I didn't see her character's point of view coming at all, and it really gave the story another dimension. No wonder the play won the Pulitzer (and the Tony).

Blu-ray looked very nice with good sharpness and the slightly desaturated color gave it a hint of nostalgia appropriate to something set in 1964. The DTS-HD MA sound only used the surrounds for the storms and the music, but it had a nice open lilt to it that I liked.

I listened to about 45 minutes of the commentary with John Patrick Shanley. Interesting how he drew on his upbringing for the plot and characters, and he filmed much of it in familiar Bronx settings. It did seem very authentic.

It's been a nice day today. The multicultural fair was interesting and the food was great!  I went with the Indian food - curried chicken with lentils and basmati rice.

I'm glad you're feeling better to enjoy it!

Good Evening!

Today's rehearsal went very well.  We started off with a stop-and-fix-and-re-start run of Act Two, then after a long break, we started back at the top of the show, and ran as much as we could until the stage manager called, "Time".  The things that were supposed to be there were there - for the most part.  The things we knew in advance that would not be there, were not there.  And we have a reasonable list of things to run and routine throughout the upcoming week of rehearsals.  All in all, with two weeks to go before we go into tech, we are where we are supposed to be.

Whew!

I watched all of the other special features, too. None were really outstanding. I did enjoy one with the real Sisters of Charity (including the real Sister James) talking about how their Order had changed over the years.

I had enough time to watch an episode of something (NCIS, DANTE'S COVE, or THE OFFICE off the DVR), but I wanted to go ahead and get the review written, so I just closed down everything and came upstairs to work.

And THAT was my evening!

Nursie, I liked LITTLE DORRIT very much. The first episode is typical: a million characters to keep track of and a lot of information that will pay off later. I first thought Mrs Clennim was a nice old lady but the wonderful actress Judy Parfitt imakes her a mass of contradictions and I am wondering if she may be perhaps not such a nice old lady.

I do believe this novel may contain the first British lesbian in print; the only other ones I can think of  in 19th-century literature are the whore-actress Nana who flaunts her lover in front of the men paying her for sex in Zola's novel and Mlle Danglars and her singing teacher in THE COUNT OF MONTE CRISTO.

Sad team elimination on TAR tonight.

And now I am watching ANY DREAM WILL DO about the search for a new JOSEPH for a London production....on BBC America but the show is a couple of years old, so my guess is the production has come and gone.....

I watched a little bit of it, but recorded it to watch later.  I also watched the special with John Barrowman about him trying to find out why he's gay.  Very interesting and enlightening. :)

I'm watching Celebrity Apprentice.  Yeah, it's stupid, but for some reason I like it.  Dennis Rodman is supposed to have a melt down tonight....I think it's getting close.

I only watched the first episode of this season.  I lost interest very quickly.  I was thinking about watching it (even with Dennis Rodman's meltdown), but there are other things that I want to watch because "Desperate Housewives" and "Brothers and Sisters" aren't on.  I have all but one episode of the new show "Castle."  I haven't watched any, yet.  I'll see how I like this show.

And since NBC is so short on - and starved for - programming, "The Celebrity Apprentice" is now being given two hours each Sunday night, so we're seeing a lot of padding.  A lot.

I was wondering about that too.  I guess she did.  -I also did a double take when I saw "Anna Bergman" listed as one of the "Bit.." - well, other performers.  Most obviously a different Anna Bergman than the one I know - and the I believe DR elmore knows too.  ;)  *And certainly not the Anna Bergman who's was the daughter of director, Ingmar Bergman

That's just the camera angle and the position of his body that makes look "a little chubby".  -You can definitely "see" his shoulders and upper arms in through that shirt. ;)

When I ushered last night, I wore the standard black pants with a white shirt.  I also had a white t-shirt on under my shirt.  When I got home, I took off the shirt and a dryer fabric softener sheet fell off my back. ::)
