Well, you've read the notes, the notes had the thing, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're currently doing the not coming home thing.

Thanks to TCB and Vixmom and MBarnum for the Birthday Wishes!! ;D

Dinner at my parents' was nice and fairly quiet.  We had home-made tacos (the tortillas weren't home-made, though).  My mom made Chocolate Lush for dessert!  It's very simple, but my favorite!  Here's a recipe:

Quote
CHOCOLATE LUSH
Printed from COOKS.COM

CRUST:
1 1/2 c. flour
3/4 c. butter
1/2 c. crushed nuts (my mom used pecans)

Mix together and press into bottom of 14"x10" pan. Bake at 375 degrees for 15 minutes; cool.

FILLING:
8 oz. cream cheese
1 c. powdered sugar
8 oz. Cool Whip
2 (3 oz.) pkgs. chocolate instant pudding
3 c. milk
8 oz. Cool Whip

Cream 8 ounces cream cheese with powdered sugar and add 8 ounces Cool Whip; mix well. Spread over above crust; chill. Mix chocolate instant pudding with milk until thickened. Pour on top of previous mixture and chill again. Top with Cool Whip and crushed nuts.

It's just delicious!  For my gifts, I got a Costco cash card, some cash and when my sister, her boyfriend and I went to see The Manhattan Transfer a couple of months ago in Seattle, that was my gift from my sister.  My parents are paying for half of my new skylight (that I will be able to open to let out the heat in my 3rd floor during the hot summer months). ;D

We got our MAN OF LA MANCHA rehearsal box today.  We ordered the orchestra parts, but they aren't in there.  The President of PCPH is calling Tams today.

There is also NO piano in the orchestration....just a conductor's score.  Is the pianist supposed to play from that?  Is it possible?  I have never done so, and I am not sure looking at it.  Hmmmmmmmmmmm........

DR CILLA LIZ - we must have photos.  And you have just described a technique I tell my clients about.  Imagine your life in a chest of drawers.  Only open one drawer at a time - do not think about the sock drawer when you are arranging the underwear drawer.  And only open one drawer at a time.  Don't let your life be a bureau with all the drawers open and everything in disarray!

Only open the drawer you are working on at the time!

DR JRand - There is no piano in the original orchestration of LA MANCHA. If you want to use a piano, the pianist can play from the P/V score and "edit" according to what other instruments are in the pit.
Title: Re: THE THING
Post by: JoseSPiano on May 06, 2009, 06:35:40 AM
DR JRand - P.S. The piano/conductor's score for LA MANCHA is "cued" - lots of "small notes" indicating some of the instrumental lines. However, the pianist only needs to play the "big notes" for rehearsal and/or performance purposes.

bk - The staff at the Metropolitan Room will take care of you.  -And if you end up having to hold the door - well, curtain - before the customers start taking their seats - then that's OK too.  They only serve cocktails and desserts (from the Little Pie Shop!), so there's no kitchen to worry about backing up.  And they really do try to keep things moving after each show in order to get the next under way.

And most of the cabaret rooms here in NYC have multiple shows - and performers - each night.  It's ll about the turnover. Sadly, the number of cabaret rooms here in NYC has been dwindling over the years.  -Although, the "high end" ones - Feinstein's, Café Carlyle - seem to be going strong.

It was good as usual. But so different watching Allison leave the DA's office and get
a new job. That music as she kept going up the escalator was so perfect and
addictive!  I will say this though. The end of the first 2 hours was slightly
predictable (that the son was involved with her other case). I'm not sure how
they could have done it so we did not see that coming. I think if it had been a
shock it would have had more impact. But still it was a great 2 hours. And the
stuff with ariel and the pills and the dead girl were also very interesting.
I wonder if they will show her taking more pills. Or if we will find out the dead
girl wanted something. When she kept showing up i had assumed she wanted
to tell ariel something. But maybe they just showed her to show what ariel's
school life would be like. one two three four five six seven eight nine ten one two

RE: last night's IDOL.

While i prefer adam singing ballads i thought he was incredible last night. Hopefully after what happened last week his fans will rally. And with the judges raves i'd be surprised if he wasn't #1. Although i still wonder if danny has more fans. My guess would be kris is going home tonight (that would be my choice). I thought adam and allison's duet was wonderful!  I didn't hate Danny as much as DR MattH. Although i totally agree about that horrid scream at the end. Awful to listen to. But i agree with simon. Danny could do no wrong right now. There is absolutely no way he couldget voted out. He is hugely popular.

I really don't get why everyone is hating on the redheads.  I find most of the time
they seem very nice and generous towards other players.  I do get what DR
MBarnum was saying about the one girl's attitude (they do look like twins). But
i really don't take as her being mean to people who speak different languages.
Most of us watching have no idea what it is like to be on the race. They edit out
so much stuff. It's grueling and must be so frustrating. To have the taxi drivers
not even acknowledge you. I'm sure some of the drivers are shell shocked with
the camera crews. But i think any one of us would be frustrated if we had no
idea if we were going to the right place. And if nobody would even look at us.
Maybe she has less patience than other players. And probably other players are
getting upset but they are not showing it. But i just don't think her intentions are
mean. They have had some really  mean players in the past. And i just don't think
this girl is like that. They've shown luke to have a real mean streak, which has
made me not care for him too much anymore.  ANd i find they have been showing
tammy and victor as slightly spoiled kids.  Anyhow i guess we will see what happens
on sunday. But for some reason i think a lot of people are gonna be upset if the
redheads win!  one two three four five six seven eight nine ten one two three four

Keep in mind: The producers of "DWTS" would not pick a total unknown or "nobody" to compete on the show. If there is no fan base for a particular contestant, there is no potential audience, ratings point.

*And I'm sure that if a Canadian celebrity was on the show, there would be many US viewers asking, "Who is that?"

I liked Allison a lot, but I would not be unhappy if she goes tonight and certainly I think Kris is the weakest of the four singers and deserves to leave. It MUST be one of those two tonight that will be leaving. Yes, I'd venture to say Danny is the most popular. He's got that middle-of-the-road safety in his singing and performance style that really can't alienate anyone. (I think he's a bit cocky, but that's just my take on him.) Adam is by far more talented and has a much more versatile voice, but his edginess will alienate a faction of the IDOL viewers. That's why I'm pretty sure Danny will win (a la Taylor Hicks a couple of seasons ago), but Adam will have the bigger career (a la Daughtry from the same year.)

DR Jennifer, I'm shocked.  Ty "a nobody"?  Who does he HAVE to be?  As for "Lil Kim", who the heck is SHE?  Never heard of her.  Of course, I run screaming bloody murder any time I'm confronted by anyone who bills himself or herself as "Lil" anything, so you can't go by me.

She looked more like a Rosie Perez wannabe than a "real" person.

DR KERRY I did not know the history of the filming of RICH AND FAMOUS and party scene filmed at the home of Lon McCallister.....is he in the scene?

Jack, in answer to your question from last night, I don't think Lon McCallister is in the scene, but there are couple of extras that could be him. I wouldn't be surprised, at any rate.

The mockingbirds, grackles and thrashers are all going crazy protecting their nests and babies at the moment.  The fact that we've had a lot of high winds doesn't help them.  There was one tree with three cats just lolling indolently on the sidewalk under it while all the birds were cackling away.  The cats have gotten a few baby birds, and the birds steal the cats' food.  Maybe I should beat them all up!

What I remember about "Rich and Famous" is the first review I read...and the critic mocking the seduction scene between Bissett and Lattanzi stating that it was very unbelievable that Ms. Bissett would ever be so desperate for sexual attention as to pick up someone so obviously "not" her type (i.e., "not heterosexual" was the implication).  When I saw the movie, I found myself in complete agreement.

I'm not saying Ty isn't nice. I actually think the ONLY reason he was put on the show was because they were going to do a relationship thing and Jewel (his wife) was on the show (she did not compete because she was injured before the season began). I was just wondering who was voting for ty (since he was by far the worst). I had not heard of him before the show. And i'm guessing most people didn't know him.  I didn't realize people would be fans of specific rodeo people. I'm not saying lil kim is a huge star. But she danced so well on monday. It's just shocking to me that she's out and he's in. He is really sweet though. So maybe a lot of women are voting for him.

Oh and re: people who probably did not have big fan bases. I'd say Gilles is pretty lucky he is such a good dancer. To me he was pretty unknown before the show started. He had a good part in the Sex & The City movie. But i doubt many people would have known his name. It's quite amazing that people like him and non-celeb melissa are still around. They should be because they are the 2 best dancers. But usually if you are not well known you don't stick around.

re: IDOL adam vs danny.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out if they are the F2 (which most people assume will happen). I think danny has a nice voice. And he was pimped so much before the regular season even started. I think he had a huge fan base just from his sad story in auditions (wife dying). I totally picked him to win before hollywood week was even over.

I think he is very popular. And probably gets #1 amount of votes each week.

But that said, i love adam so much more. But he is different. He is wild. He is crazy. But i think he's fantastic. And the tide seems to be turning (at least with the judges). To me if the judges keep saying he is better than danny and they are the final 2. Then i think adam has a good shot.

Today I have ordered 20 feet of Subway sandwiches:

6 feet of ham
6 feet of cold cut combo
3 feet of tuna salad
3 feet of chicken salad
2 feet of veggie

They will be cut in 4" portions, half on white bread, half on whole wheat, with lettuce and tomato.  Cheese, pickles, and black olives on the side.  Add 2 kinds of chips, assorted beverages (pop, water, coffee & tea), and assorted cookies and you have the menu for the lunch following Richard's deacon ordination service.  It will be in the breakfast area of the Hampton Inn, across the parking lot from the Hilton where the ceremony will take place.  This is all in Northern Kentucky, near the Greater Cincinnati airport.

Will it be set up as one 20-foot long sub? Or will the 4" sections be piled up on platters?

And I'm guessing the Hilton didn't have a party room? Hmm...

Changed rooms and have a desk.  Have downloaded Tom Jones into iTunes and listened - the original recording was VERY low-budget but this sounds as good as it's ever going to sound and the new sequence I did is heavenly - what a difference!  But you get both my new sequence and the original LP sequence - so it's seventy minutes of Tom Jones in two completely different listening experiences.  I'm meeting Juliana A. Hansen at Joe Allen at eight-fifteen.  We'll see if anyone else shows up.

And speaking of the weather...

I just checked the forecast for Manila:

The average High temp: 90℉
The average Low: 80℉
Scattered thunderstorms
Average humidity: 60%

-For all 10 days that I will be there!

However, it will be an easy trip to pack for: t-shirts, shorts, underwear, socks, sneakers and flip-flops.  -And a baseball cap and umbrella.

And, we opted for the Hampton Inn, because we prefer it to Hilton and because the Anglican congregation that meets there (at the Hilton) is having their pastor ordained priest in the same ceremony.  We wanted to separate ourselves from their decision to feed their guests only cake - at noon, after a 2-hour service for which many people will have driven 3-4 hours.  Richard wanted his guests to have more of a meal.

They were implying the actor was not heterosexual or the character was not?

So, while the player was taking its own sweet time with the final stages of the processing, I went ahead and used the PlayStation 3 to watch the Blu-ray of PLANET OF THE APES.

Now, the only copy of the movie I ever had on DVD was the first DVD release. It was a nonanamorphic letterboxed copy of the film with lots of dirt, scratches, and reel change markers on it.

What a difference this Blu-ray disc of the film is! BEautifully clean and artifact free, it was pure pleasure to view it from beginning to end.

The DTS-HD MA 5.1 sound wasn't superb, but it's certainly the fullest the film has ever sounded on a home theater system.

Over the course of the next weeks, I'll be working my way throuigh the other four films in the series on Blu-ray since I bought the entire set when Amazon had a big markdown on it a week or two ago.

I have an interesting dilemma (To me at least) regarding my IPOD.

Sometimes the screen shows the incorrect album cover but has the correct music information Artist, Album. Song.

Has this happened to anyone else?

So I thought I try to delete all the art work from the Itunes database. Let my Ipod update sans art.

Then go back and get the art back into ITunes and upload the IPod again

Now I have tried and did an ITunes help to delete all the album covers in one fell swoop, but have not been able to find the instructions.

Anyone can help?

Is the wrong cover coming up consistently? I know that sometimes if you let iTunes "Get Artwork", it pulls the wrong art from Amazon and/or it's other sources.  *If the same wrong artwork comes up in iTunes on your computer, then then's really nothing "wrong" - iTunes just pulled the wrong artwork. If it is consistent, it's just best to cut and paste the correct artwork - use Apple+I(nfo) to do that.  -I have normally have to manually place the artwork into iTunes for a bunch of the CDs that I've burned into iTunes since they're older titles and/or imports (mainly Classical titles).

Otherwise, just open a Finder window and select the Music folder -> iTunes -> Album Artwork.

I think you can just delete that folder, then when you restart iTunes, it will start to rebuild that folder.

As for iPod artwork - If you chose "Get Artwork" for the OCR of Damn Yankees, what you used to get is the cover art for the rock band, Damn Yankees.  Who knows? It may still do that.  I also remember it pulling up some random art work/group for Emily Skinner's solo album.
