Topic of the Day:  in my CD player:  the brand new Kritzerland release, House of Flowers!  It arrived yesterday and I can't (or maybe I can ::)) believe that I forgot to mention it.  I must've been distracted with three hours of "Grey's Anatomy."  I watched last week's episode, then tonight's two-hour season finale.

No viewing or listening plans.

I will check to see if House of Flowers has arrived. I will listen to Friday Night is Music Night on BBC 2 at some point. Speaking of that, where is Dear Francois?

We will do laundry after work, go out for dinner and then watch something but I don't know what.

And now I'm at the office. Lo and behold, I picked up the carton with the mail and sitting on top was a cardboard container with a CD addressed to me!

I took the carton to the 4th Floor after removing said cardboard container and I will listen to the CD as I work with Kosovo, Ford and the STD (no, it's not what you think, it's the Searchable Taxonomy Database).

I think we are doing BLITHE SPIRIT next season....DR TCB said that he has performed in this play....and I am reading it for the first time.  I certainly enjoy the movie....the script seems awfully WORDY.....but perhaps it plays better.  And this is an OLD copy, maybe it has been edited.....

Good morning, all! I've been sleeping badly for over a week, and last night was not an exception. I dozed off around 11 pm and at 12:45 am, I was wide awake and restless for an hour or so. After that, I was in and out of consciousness most of the night. I'm usually out of bed between 7:30 and 8, but I slept in until 8:45 or so.

Today, I have edits for the Main Report on BABES IN TOYLAND, some Jerome Moross piano transcriptions, and Mr Loesser's great score. I also need to make a trip to my sorage space, drag home some cartons and sort through them. I no longer need the space so I believe I will shut it down and save myself $150/month.

DR vixmom, once again, a nibble on the property and then nothing. If the cheap-ass Macbeth would list it with a realtor dealing in commercial space, it might move but he's convinced my brother Randy not to pay a broker's fee. But, since cheap-ass Macbeth has done nothing in 2 years to help sell the property or mow the grass, I don't know why Randy listens to the fool.

I'm glad you found help on the AVS Forum, bk. You're welcome! I appreciated that you took my advice. I've never bought a piece of A/V equipment that I didn't go there and get some pointers.

You might also want to find your Blu-ray player user group there, too, because it's there when I find out that there are firmware updates to make on the player. Those are quick and painless to do, too.

I believe I shall take my walk up to 107th Street and begin the clearance of my storage space. I'll pick up whatever cartons I need, sort through what I believe is junk and try to clear the place out in three steps:
  1. What I bring back today
  2. What I cart back on my next trek
  3. What I'll toss when I close the account.

Perhaps I can do it in two, but I think 3 is wiser.

In any case...

Our flight leaves Manila at 7:20am, and we are supposed to arrive in Richmond at 10:42pm tomorrow night.  Or whatever day of the week "tomorrow" ends up being.  We have a three-hour layover in Detroit, and that will probably be the first opportunity I'll have to check back in here or elsewhere on the interwebs. So, until then...

Only one thing worth mentioning:

BOOK: Ratios, by Michael Ruhlman.

Wow.

Working from information given to him by an instructor at the CIA (Culinary Institute of America, in long-form),  Ruhlman gives a slew of basic ratios, combinations of ingredients that form the building blocks for thousands of recipes.  The first ratio he gave, that bread is essentially five parts flour to three parts liquid, challenged me to try it.  20 ounces bread flour (approximately four cups), 12 ounces water.  Add some salt and yeast, throw it all together in the stand mixer, let the dough hook play with the ingredients until the dough has been properly kneeded, cover with plastic wrap and take a nap, punch the dough down and form the loaf while preheating the oven, let bake for about an hour and presto, der B and I had fresh bread with dinner.

All right, there's all sorts of variables that can be added.  Sugar or honey, change how much yeast is used, change the type of flour, add stuff like herbs and oils.  The basic ratio of five parts flour to three parts liquid stays the same.  This is news to me, when every other book has said that baking is an exact science, that you can't play around with anything because the writers who write the books don't want you to figure out how to do anything on your own!  All of a sudden, the mystery is gone.  I can play with my food.  Let the games begin!

And the ratios in the book aren't just for baking.  He's got ratios here for stocks and sauces, for mayonnaise, for custards, for sausage!

When der B learned I was baking bread, he turned to the dogs and said "He's getting adventurous again."  There was a smile in his voice.

It's going to be a four-part evacuation. I dragged back two cartons and there are 6 more to bring back and sort through. I think DR MBarnum will get a surprise carton or two before it's over.

The place was a zoo today: hundreds of Columbia students storing their possessions for the summer. I called Ron Raines while I was waiting for a taxi; he just went through the same thing with Charlotte in Ann Arbor last week.

I found out 2 really weird things re: voting patterns.

I was wondering who was voting for kris and how he could even have a chance at top 2. Well when i was reading the televisionwithoutpity Idol message board apparently a lot of people did not like danny gokey.  I know i thought he peaked too early. But he seemed nice enough. Well apparently a lot of adam fans were trying to get danny out so they were power-voting for kris. I really would never have thought of this if i had not read it.

Now here is something else weird. My sister-in-law was a huge danny fan. She thinks adam is better than kris. But she wants kris to win. Because she thinks adam will have a great career no matter where he finishes. But that kris needs the win.

Again, i would never have thought this up. I personally would be unhappy with a kris win. I think the best person should win. And while kris seems nice enough. He is sort of boring to me. And i would be disappointed if people voted for him because he "needed it" more.

Some good news.  I rode my bike for the first time since i had that terrible sore throat more than a month ago.  It's really taken me a long time to get my energy back up after that. I was still waking up tired/exhausted and with a dry throat for more than a month after.

And i was stuck at 75% health (my guesstimate) for a long time! I still don't feel perfect. And i figured i'd be huffing and puffing on my bike ride. BUt i decided to try to go to the library (only like a mile away). Going there was a breeze. So i rode around the lake. Also a breeze.

Only problem was there was a really fierce wind my whole way back. Didn't realize that one. But that would have been hard even if i was in perfect health.

So it was a success!

Bruce, I'm sorry to hear you're having so much trouble casting the two leads for "Nudie." Of course, we would have loved it if Patrick Cassidy could play Harry since we're such big fans and he sounded great in your living room. But he'll be busy taping "Ruby & the Rockits," and you may not have wanted him anyway. So I can only suggest the guy who replaced Patrick the last time he couldn't do a show - Damon Kirsche. Damon Kirsche replaced Patrick in "She Loves Me" for Reprise and did a fine job. Mark thinks he's too good-looking to play Harry, but I think you can put a fake pair of eye glasses on just about anyone and make them look nerdy.

Back from walk around Lake Merritt.

Am now munching on my lunch salad (mixed greens, asparagus, boiled eggs and chipotle chicken strips).  Yes, I've had the same lunch the past four days.

Next week...spinach, I think.

Back from the long jog - really tedious today, but a very pretty day out.

Same here, with the temp in the mid-70s.  Tomorrow and Sunday, however, look to sizzle with temps in the upper-80s lower-90s.

I watched last night's BONES while I ate lunch. A very unique, unusual and fun ONE-TIME experiment for the show, but I am not for them repeating this any time soon. I did like the clever way the favorite characters were worked into the new scenario that had echoes to their old professions. And I figured out the murderer easily enough.

But I'll look forward to a new season. Last I read, however, the show hadn't been picked up yet. I think they're haggling over money.

We are back from our visit with Alfred Lunt and Lynn Fontanne at Ten Chimneys.  It's such an exquisite place with so much to see and appreciate.  Then we went to Oconomowoc for lunch at Culver's and a browse around Books and Company, an indie bookstore (a vanishing breed).  Richard, who woke up at 5:30am today, is zonked out and I'm trying to be quiet while he naps.

The first scene of BLITHE SPIRIT is deadly dull.  For most of it you have Charles and Ruth spouting exposition about his new book his late wife Elvira, Madame Arcati, etc., etc.  The director has got to set the pace on that scene to Full Tilt Gangbusters.  And even then, if Charles can learn to juggle and perhaps Ruth could tie a cherry stem in a knot; it could only improve the play.  Once the other characters arrive the show takes off nicely (if the audience is still awake).

I did get the yard mowed tonight and brought in some iris and some lilacs.  My living room smells very nice

I have decided not to go to my parents' tomorrow.  I have lots and lots to do at the office and want to be there alone where I can get things done without interruption

But first I will sleep until I wake up....no alarm....I've been so tired.  I slept about 10 hours night before last, but am still tired, so I am REALLY looking forward to sleeping in

Page seven is acceptable - barely.  Am checking out a few more Blu-Ray discs now after having at least got two movies off the to be watched pile.

And I ended my evening of viewing with tonight's GHOST WHISPERER. Except for the lovely ending, I think this might have been one of the weakest episodes of the season, mainly because it was a showcase for Jaime Kennedy, and I just don't care for him or his character on the show.

I'm not a fan of Jamie Kennedy on this show, either.  He's okay, but not my favorite character.

DR George, vibes you are super pleased with your new computer!

Thanks, Jane.  The estimated delivery date is June 3rd, so it'll be a while before I actually get it.  But, I'm having it delivered to my work so I don't have to guess what time it might be delivered...or have to have it redirected and wait another day or two to get it.  We receive UPS and other deliveries every day at work, so it's a regular stop on their run.

If you aren't at work when it arrives will someone call you?  I like you can have things delivered there & no one minds.

We get shipments every day and the person who normally works the mail "room" (it's really just an area) will either let me know or bring it to my desk.  And it's never a problem for people to have personal item delivered to our work...it's quite convenient.

I gotta tell you.  Listening to CDs now.  Wiring guy called and is coming tomorrow instead of Tuesday, so I'll be able to use my stereo system by afternoon.
