DR George - I don't think I have the show songbook.  I used the Ahrens & Flaherty songbook sheet music, but with the lyric revisions from the final show.     :)

I completely zoned out yesterday.  Walked the farmers market at 3rd & Fairfax for 3 hours in the morning, came home took a nap, then watched Vanity Fair, The Other Boleyn Girl,  and Marie Antoinette.

Thank you  BK  & DR Jose for your comments about MACs

I did exactly what you said Jose but I did it in reverse.

I went to Best Buy and went to the Apple Kiosk and a very knowledgeable young man showed me the  MACs (They had three models) and answered all my questions and I had a lot of them.

I was interested to see if they had a similar program to Powerpoint come fall I will be giving some classes on musical theater and I want a good program that does slide/audio presentation. I also wanted some of the basics.

The first question I asked was "What does a MAC have to offer that a PC doesn't have"

After about 45 minutes with I like the idea of the Mid level Mac ($1500) and I considered taking their 3 year extra warranty. I also would buy a couple of programs and it would take me over $2000.  Its a lot of money but I think it just might be a good investment.

All the programs that come with MAC look cool and the program FINAL CUT also looks like a winner.

Then I went to the Apple Store. Very busy place. I looked over the many different models they have there and the programs they have for sale. Apple guy came over and I asked him some of the same questions I asked the Best Buy salesman.

Sunday morning greetings!  We are off to Lima in about an hour and, after church, heading for HOME!  I'm ready to be there - it dawned on me last night that this is the third weekend in a row that I've been away.  It's all been fun, but as Dorothy says, "There's no place like home."

DR Michael S - following up on DR Jose's comments, if you go to the Apple Store just as the new models are being released, sometimes they have great deals on the ones being replaced.

And, for me, one of the best things about retiring is never having to use a PC again.  Love my new 13" MacBook - the larger ones would be too big for me to carry around.

My APPLE G4 IMAC is set up in the living room for my parents.  I still use some of the programs, but they certainly like it - and with the help of the DR's here on HHW, I was able to get most of my questions answered....those that I asked.

Last week I found an almost new size 56 Gerald Austin/Bond Street tuxedo with size 44 pants, and black silk collar and ribbon waistband for $10.99 - with nice black suspenders still buttoned to said pants.  It may have been worn once or twice.  And it was senior day - so I got it for $7.90.

Now all we have to do at PCPH is produce a show featuring a man wearing a tuxedo and cast a size 56 actor in the role!

Good morning, all! Today I return to the Napa Valley and a few more rounds with Mr Frank Loesser. I received yesterday as well the final round of notes from Mr Foley, who's been editign my Main Report, and I hope to finish those up today as well.

I slept soundly until around 6:30, at which time I became obsessed with dreams about moving the office and setting up a new phone system and telephone number. I swear that all I did was have variations on this dream for two hours before I decided genug ist genug! Oy!

Knowing that my front yeard desperately needed mowing, I got out early and did the front faster than I have ever done it before. I was literally RUNNING with the mower since it looked like the sky was going to open up any second. The rain never actually started (as I said, a few drops fell after I got inside), but I am SO delighted to have that done for another couple of weeks.

Looks like my work project today from the stack of Fox/MGM Blu-ray discs will be BIG.

I haven't seen the film in a long time, so it'll be fun revisiting it. I've never reviewed it either. When it came out, I was between newspaper gigs and never wrote it up.

Yes, '2001' on Blu-ray does look and sound amazing. I was one of those people who knew it was something special when I first saw it but took a long time to study it enough on home video to be able to appreciate it fully.

Now, it's pure pleasure to watch.

There are not a huge number of bonus features on BIG, so I'm hoping to have some time to myself tonight to watch something for fun. I have some things on the DVR, of course, but I'd also like to finish SOUTH PACIFIC on Blu-ray if there is time.

I'd like to finish disc 5 in the NCIS second season box set.

I'd like to watch another Doris Day title in her latest collection. TEA FOR TWO comes next in chronology.

And I've got that five-disc PLANET OF THE APES Blu-ray package that I've only watched the original film from.

Lots to choose from.

Holy moley on rye - just read of the passing of Scott Schechter, who died of a heart attack at forty-six.  He was responsible for a lot of Judy and Liza reissues on CD, as well as books on both (I think).  He used to call me at Varese regularly and we'd talk about reissuing Liza and Judy stuff, but I could never make it happen there.  Still, I'm thanked in one of his books, and he was always very sweet and seemed like a terrific person.

Good morning!  Last night's performance (and last night's audience) was wonderful!  We had nearly a full-house and the show was the best it has ever been.  It really clicked.  Sadly, it was hotter than Hades last night in both the house and onstage.  Yesterday was probably the first day of the year where the temperature was over 70, and the Parks Department needs to get their collective asses in gear.

We are two thirds of the way thru the run of GUYS AND DOLLS, and, so far, the only review we have received is from the Seattle Gay News.  Wow!  I love working in the BIG city.

Scott also was sweet to me and a great source of information as well.  Somehow he found out about STARCROSSED, my Judy Garland-Frances Farmer musical, and kept in regular contact with me about it, providing me with tons of information.  Though he really didn't want Judy *ever* portrayed as being drunk, I think he knew that it was inevitable.

I just went back and found a disarmingly nice email from Scott:

That's a pretty good pull quote.

As I approached the area where I was told the bear cub had been sighted I leashed Sherlock.  A few feet down the path I heard a rustling in the trees.  This is actually a better photo than the view I had of the adolescent cub in the tree looking down on us.

The cub I saw was older, maybe 16-17 months, my guess after reading the age when cubs go off on their own.  It was a bit bigger than Sherlock.
Title: Re: WIRED
Post by: Jane on May 17, 2009, 01:02:19 PM
Sherlock whimpered while we watched for awhile & then the cub scampered down the tree & moved farther into the woods so we continued our hike.

The trails were very busy today & everyone was discussing if they had seen the cub or not.  As I was headed back in the direction of the cub I hooked up with a woman who had been trying to find him.  We did and she began talking baby talk to the cub.  NEVER talk baby talk to a bear cub!  It began walking right up to her and then continued to follow us for awhile.  I got Sherlock to bark a few times which only caused the cub to stop and watch us.  Eventually we hooked up with a gentleman & his Great Dane & we all walked back up & coaxed the cub up the hill a bit.

I was more concerned for the cub.  It will not be good if he/she grows up too used to people.  This is a well traveled section of the trails.  Walking away from the bear the woman kept saying I could have pet it.  ::)

I ate a Subway sandwich after the long jog and turned on Wall-E to make sure all was well with all the equipment and so far so good.  It's taking me a while to get used to the new way of doing things (new TV, new receiver, new remotes) but I'm finally getting used to it.  As to Wall-E, I intended to just flip around the disc but became entranced all over again and ended up watching the whole thing.  First of all, the DVD was very good, but the Blu-Ray is just another beast entirely - sharp, fantastic color, and where Blu-Ray really excels is the sound - 1000 times better than standard DVD.  The image is so beautiful it just makes you want to weep.

You don't have to stand in line to file for unemployment anymore.  You can do it right from the convenience of your own home.

Unfortunately, so can everyone else.  With the lagging servers, it takes approximately half an hour to sequence through the screens.

But I'm not complaining.

No mother bear.  She is probably living in a different section of the trails.  They go for miles, how many in total I have no idea.

Good Evening!

I'm back at my parents' house, and am trying my best to stay up until midnight, and then go to bed right after midnight, and, hopefully, wake up tomorrow at a semi-decent hour.

I know I'm dealing with some jet lag, but I also know that I'm dealing with some sleep deprivation too, or at least lack of sleep - since "deprivation" makes it seem as if I was being tortured. ::) In any case... When I was telling Steve about my Philippine adventures, I realized that the last three days I was there, I was only getting about four hours of sleep a night since we had to keep heading out early each day for another excursion.  And only getting about fours of sleep before and after a day filled with lots of walking (and zip-lining) is not a good thing.  I could already feel that my last day there, and that also explains why I slept so much on the plane - when I usually can't sleep on a plane.

Moving on...

I think I've mentioned this before, but my block in Harlem is "featured" in the opening sequence of "I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry".  They had fixed up and then "set fire" to the building across the street.  -And Adam Sandler reviewed the footage right in front of my bedroom window.

DR elmore - Were you able to tell if they referred to the address of the church as the real address?  Did they alter the signage of the church?

Whatever temperature I may have said the theater was last night; add twenty degrees and you have today's matinee temperature.  Still it was a wonderful show and a great crowd.  Who knew that many older folks read the Seattle Gay News?

Still it was a strange day at the theater, that DR Jrand could probably explain.  The stage manager opened the theater to air it out at about 11:30.  A little while later she found a group of kids in the middle of the stage.  After chasing them out of the building, she discovered there had been a theft.  The only things missing were a pair of handcuffs and the billyclub, both used by the cop in the show.  Now, who wants to even contemplate what a group of thirteen years olds boys plan to do with handcuffs and a billyclub?  The pre-show speech, that is on tape, was played; but no sound came out.  Quickly the theater manager got up and gave the old turn off your damn phone speech.  During the speech and the overture several technical malfunctions occured, including the discovery (as the house was going to black) that all of the set pieces had been turned to the Havana scene, rather than the Times Square scene.

The rest of the show (except for the heat) went very well, until we got to my song, which comes early in the second act.  I gave my cue, and then instead of the electric piano playing my intro, I had only the drums and the flute.  I saw the musical conductor scrambling around the keyboard, so I knew something was up.  So, I sang the whole song to the flute and drums; which was followed by the gamblers' ballet done to drums, flute, and sax (I believe). Just as Sky Masterson was about to launch into LUCK BE A LADY the voice of God (or in this case, the stage manager) boomed out, "Ladies and Gentlemen, due to technical difficulties, we are forced to take a momentary pause in the show."  At this point, every techie, electrical engineer, and curious bystander descended on the orchestra pit, while all of the gamblers stood nervously on stage.

After a few mintues, our Nathan Detroit, who is a pretty funny guy to begin with, climbed down off the stage, sat down between two ladies in the front row, and proceeded to entertain the crowd with several funny and (thankfully) clean jokes.  After about five minutes, the cast received the thumbs up, and the show continued.

And other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how did you enjoy the play?

Yes, lightning blew out the circuit that controlled the light board when I was doing AND THE WORLD GOES 'ROUND. This is a show very much dependent on lighting effects and spots focused on various parts of the stage. When it was clear that it would take some time for it to be fixed, the audience was informed of the problem (the show had only been running about five minutes). The overhead flourescent lights were working so it was either use those or not do the show. The audience voted to proceed with the show using the overhead lights.

So we did the first act that way. By the second act, the circuit had been repaired and the show played the second act properly. It was WEIRD doing the show the right way after having all that light during the first act!

And then I watched tonight's DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES. The ONLY story of any interest to me was the one involving Susan-Mike-Dave-MJ. All of the other wives had very trite and tedious storylines. Could this be another show I may abandon next season? Well, I'll probably stick with it but some of the decision will depend on what the other networks offer as competition against it next season.

Congrats, TCB!
