Well, you've read the notes, the notes were filled with yahoos, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're overtired due to some yaMOOS annoying them.

RE Star Trek and Checkov

You will wait a long time for the character to make an appearance. His character didn't start to season 2 (Although supposedly he was on the ship, but he just wasn't seen.)

ASK BK

You have commented that the soundtrack to Breakfast At Tiffany's really isn't a soundtrack recording. Do you know if the recordings still exist and would you consider releasing it?

It is rainy here....and more storms predicted.  I am working on the KISS ME KATE photo album and will post a link when all photos are uploaded.

The DD now has a habit of getting up with the cows (of which there are none in our neighborhood) and he wants out at about 4:30/5:00am every morning.  I have no clue why or how it started. He'll troll around the yard for about 20 minutes and then come in and curl up on his bed in the living room and sleep all the live long day.  Once I get up and let him out, most of the time it's too difficult to get back to sleep.  So, here we are :)

Question for bk - I read that you are about to the the next official Kritzerland announcement, but have you un-officially announced it on the board yet?

I keep reading about people destroying their Samsung Blu Ray players by doing updates.....so I am not going to think about updating until I buy a disk that doesn't work.

I watched ATTACK OF THE 50 FOOT WOMAN on the blue ray disk...the FX are even shoddier - if you can imagine that being possible - but everyone looks great and there is great detail in clothing and set dressing that one might not have noticed before.

Good morning, all! I'm having breakfast in an hour with Jerome Moross' daughter Susanna. After that, a quick stop at a furniture store, and then back here to finish up the Act Two notes for THE MOST HAPPY FELLA. It took me about 6 hrs to type up the first half of Act Two yesterday, and I want to finish today so I can drop the score off to Music Theatre International tomorrow morning.

The Babes In Toyland score is now being perused by the Institute, and the first round of questions has arrived for the opening number. Tomorrow, I have a meeting with the chief editor of the Institute's CPE Bach project. which will be interesting.

DR Kerry posted yesterday:

I was moving some boxes in my laundry room yesterday and came across two pages from LIFE magazine (It could be LOOK, but  the layout looks more like LIFE).  It's a two page spread from 1961 on the effervescent starlets on TV that season:  Judy Lewis (Outlaw), Lori Patrick (Tales of Wells Fargo), Gigi Perreau (Follow the Sun), Roberta Shore (Bob Cummings Show), Cynthia Pepper (Margie), Joan Patrick (Dr. Kildare), Mary Tyler Moore (Dick Van Dyke), Joan Freeman (Bus Stop) and Karen Kupcinet
(Mrs. G Goes to College).

The reason why I remember her name is because for many. many years when Weekly Variety was a "real" b & w newspaper there was on page 2 or 3 (I think) there was a memorial ad with her picture and years of her life. Wednesday morning greetings!  It's cool, but very humid, here in SW Ohio today.  Richard is cleaning out the gutters (his least favorite job), but will only work for about another 45 minutes.  That's when I have to leave to take my mom to the eye doctor and we don't like for Richard to be up and down on a ladder when no one else is home.

Our life is so exciting...

I won't be at the HHW Tony party because I'm going to the Tonys on Sunday.

A friend has a ticket she can't use (medical issues) and she offered it to me. I figure this is one of the only times I'll be able to go, even if I'm sitting in the first mezzanine of Radio City Music Hall, so that's one thing I can check off my list of things to do before I die.

Perhaps later in life Anthony will be nominated and we can go together.

re: the celebrity discussion from yesterday and re: lou diamond phillips vs spencer and heidi pratt.

I agree that Lou Diamond Phillips has had a career vs heidi and spencer who basically just star on a reality show.  But when i was talking fame I was thinking more of who would have paparazzi following them. And that would be heidi and spencer.

It's weird because a lot of people have never heard of them. Yet they are in a lot of magazines.

The quote DR RonP mentioned yesterday (spencer storming off set and calling the head of NBC) is true. It happened on the show. And while spencer is spoiled, I can't figure out how much of that
was for show. On The Hills he is a villain. So i think he was playing villain on this show as well.

It was weird to watch. But since the Pratts have now left the show (i'm a celebrity) for good I will probably stop watching.

Btw, i don't necessarily think that just because someone did this show (i'm a celebrity) that it means their careers are washed up. They are doing it for charity. I don't think that someone like janice dickinson or Spencer and heidi needed to do this.

Reading those Spencer Pratt quotes from I'M A CELEBRITY sounds just like the Spencer on THE HILLS. No difference. He is a first class jerk whose fifteen minutes of fame have gone completely to his head making him assume he's deserving of special treatment or that he's better than everyone else. For me, he is the most heinous kind of celebrity, famous for nothing except being famous. Gag!

I know the humidity is difficult to endure. Here, June is HOT and dry. We get our summer storms in July and August, when the temp goes down a little, but it gets humid after a rain. I turned on the AC when it hit 95, and it will stay on until October.

And this:

They really seemed to get into it: sound effects, "stunts", even some spitting.  They even did some moves where "The Force" was their weapon.  There were six of "them", and, at one point, they even lined up in formation and went through a series of moves.  From what I could tell, some of the one-on-one "fights" were based on particular fights from the "Star Wars" movies - complete with bits of dialog.

It was quite fascinating and entertaining, and by the time I finished watching them, it was about 2:00am... And by the time I got home... Sleep.

I'm not sure if that is the Sony model I had (maybe mine was the 300?), but if it is, you won't have any Profile 2 capabilities, so no BDLive, etc.   But maybe the 350 is a different model than the one I'm thinking of (I sold my Sony, so can't check).

Good Morning!

I'm up, I'm up... And I'm back from New Jersey.

Jose, did I miss your reason for going to New Jersey?

Possibly.

My new friend, Jerry - who I met on my return trip from Chicago - had a small gathering last night at his apartment, which he's still in the process of getting set up.  It was part house-warming party and part "Welcome Jerry To the East Coast/New Jersey" party.

Jerry is living in The Beacon (http://www.thebeaconjc.com/) in Jersey City.  The Beacon used to be a hospital, a BIG hospital, the New Jersey Medical Center, I believe. And the view from one of the rooftop decks, looks like this:

ASK BK

You have commented that the soundtrack to Breakfast At Tiffany's really isn't a soundtrack recording. Do you know if the recordings still exist and would you consider releasing it?

Of course I'd put it out.  And the gates of Paramount are finally open in that regard, but we already know that there are problems because of the RCA album and their rights.

If you got the track with Audrey Hepburn singing "Moon River,"  You'd make Henry Mancini happy since he regretted using the chorus for the album and not having Audrey Hepburn sing on the album.

There were rumors that they were being replaced. But apparently they are returning to the show. I"m curious to see this latest stunt, so i guess i'll record it.  I wonder if they are scripting this?

I think that the Tonys should show the creative awards, but i do get why they want to try to have more musical numbers. I liked it when they had the other awards earlier so those who wanted to watch could watch. I may try to watch on the internet this year.

Yes, I find the trends in this year's Tony broadcast unpleasant as well.

There was supposed to be a Jerry Herman medley sung by Ron Raines, Audra MacDonald and others that was arranged and orchestrated by Larry Blank before they cut it this week from the show.

Perhaps next year they should produce two separate shows.  THE TONY'S - THE AWARDS SHOW and THE TONY'S - THE PERFORMANCES.  Unfortunately, we all know what would happen.  THE AWARDS SHOW's dismal ratings would be even lower than usual and THE PERFORMANCES wouldn't even win their time period.

Everyone talks about the show moving to PBS, but where do you find corperate sponsers who don't mind paying for a show that only a select group of people will ever be interested in watching?  Maybe you should let NBC present the awards show - they have nothing to lose.

I'm not sure if that is the Sony model I had (maybe mine was the 300?), but if it is, you won't have any Profile 2 capabilities, so no BDLive, etc.   But maybe the 350 is a different model than the one I'm thinking of (I sold my Sony, so can't check).

DR JMK is wrong in this instance. The Sony 350 is a 2.0 player and fully capable of BD-Live plus the PiP capabilities of 1.1 players.

As to DR Arnold's question about updates, as long as the player reads your discs, don't worry about it. But if you get a disc that the player won't play or skips about while playing, then before you think the player is broken or the disc is defective, you might then want to try to update your player's firmware.

As for guest stars, some wonderful ones in this batch. The most famous was probably James Coburn (who ends up being the murder victim) and the most famous of the accused was a very young Louise Fletcher.

Other notable names in the batch of shows today: Richard Deacon, Corey Allen, Arthur Franz, Edward Platt, Philip Abbott, John Hoyt, Virginia Christine, and Philip Ober (again; he was also in the season premiere wearing a toupee).

We now have three more releases from MGM coming - our next is a never-before-released score by a favorite composer of mine (and most of what he composed did not end up in the film), followed by a two-fer, two films from the same director and star, but not the same composer.  Followed by another two-fer, also two films from the same director/star and also by two separate composers.  I have a few other things I'm looking into after that and will, in fact, try to line up releases to take us to the end of the year.  It's a lot of fun!

In case you didn't notice, the natives are restless over at the A&M site.  I'm sure the resident expert has contacted you.  :)

BK, any thoughts on releasing the soundtrack for 1959's DAY OF THE OUTLAW? Music by Alexander Courage.

I love, love, love (that is 3 loves) the music from that film.
Of course it is United Artists rather then MGM, so it is more a hypothetical question I guess.

I had the weirdest dream last night about grocery shopping.  I never, ever leave my purse in the cart (like a lot of women do), but did in my dream.  Of course, it disappeared and the store's security guy was very helpful.  He eventually found my purse and only 2 things had been disturbed - my Starbucks card was gone and my "Hail to the Victors" cell phone ringtone had been replaced with Elvis singing, "Love Me, Tender."  All my cash and credit cards and really important IDs were undisturbed.

Wonder what DR JRand's Dream-o-matic will have to say...

The other day I was in Office Depot shopping for, well, office products.  I was comparing two different products that were located on separate aisles.  While I was looking this woman accompanied by four or five teenage children and pushing a cart with a two year old child in it along with a lot of, well, office products; desended upon my end of the store.  As I was looking at one of the products they all swarmed down the aisle where I was shopping.  Trying to avoid the crush I moved to the other aisle to look at the similar product.  When I turned to leave this area of the store, I found the crowd blocking my exit aisle.  Moving to the next aisle I found that she had deposited the shopping cart containing her child and her purse in the middle of the next aisle.  Since I work for Children's Services and not wanting to get accused of any wrong doing, I backtracked two aisles the other direction to avoid going past the unattended child.  Seeing me now at her end of the aisle, the woman suddenly remembered her abandoned shopping cart.  Making sure that she was staring at me while she said it, she yelled to one of her children, "David, quick go watch my purse!"

WTF?  She has a two year old child that she has left unattended and forgotten until that moment, and her only concern is for her purse??

DR TCB - no I am certain Dylan has not read that column - he is happy to have ANY shirt.  His is also the HAT we find on a chair in the theatre or on the prop table beside the money bag that he usually forgets to bring on.  But he does try - and his brother Andy, playing Man #2 is very funny.  So there you are....and Dylan did take on the role of the suitor Gremio when another BIG star decided he couldn't be bothered to play such a small part.

Besides the obvious, what's the story with Miranda Sings?

Well, I guess by "the obvious", you mean that she's actually a very good singer in "real life".  Otherwise, "Miranda" has managed to work her way in various cabarets, revues and events (including the BC/EFA "Easter Bonnet Competition").  I got the joke the first time I heard her, saw here, and find her "success" a little strange and unfounded(?).  However, I do find her entertaining.

Then I watched APRIL IN PARIS. It's by far the weakest looking of the Doris Day movies in this set. About 1/3 of it was either soft, out of focus, or out of color registration. And none of it looked great. Sound was kind of puny, too.

And I was really shocked at how poorly Ray Bolger sang in this film. He misses many notes. I couldn't believe that I had never noticed this before.

I watched one motion picture on Blu-Ray.  I think it's time for a new glasses prescription, too, as it's almost better if I don't wear my glasses at all, save for my left eye begin out of focus.  But when I wear them, my right eye is now slightly out of focus and the left eye, while much better with the glasses, is still slightly soft.

Since you have the reading for The First Nudie Musical coming up, which composers - musical theatre and/or film - would you love to have at the readings, to get their feedback?

Who would make you the most nervous?

Stephen Schwartz, I suppose, since I know what kind of feedback he'd give, which is the same he expects people to give (as I did) for his work.  Frank Loesser would make me nervous.  Jule Styne would probably make me nervous.  People I've worked with would not make me nervous at all, even my close personal friend, Mr. Stephen Sondheim.

I try to read every word when I read the posts at the end of the day, and by the time 8 pages go by, I have too many things I want to comment on.

So from this really tired person,  Thanks everyone for making my evening pleasant . ;D

Must go to sleep.

Oh, JMK, I love your neighbor.

We have a toy small enough to fit in a pocket, that farts, burps, kisses, shoots missiles, torpedoes, and I don't remember the rest of the obnoxious noises.

We thoroughly embarrassed my kid in public many times when she was little.  It was great fun.

And somewhere (I'll have to find it) another small toy that insults you (with sayings from a famous comedian) that was kept next to the phone.
