Well, you've read the notes, the notes were multi-hued like a rainbow, and now it is time for you to post until the rainbow cows come home.

TCB, you mentioned that you haven't gotten the last couple of Kritzerland blasts - they've absolutely gone out to you, so check your spam folder via AOL and my guess is you'll find them there.

A very good production with a few directorial quirks that I did not like. They decided to do a pre-show staging of what happened at Greta's club prior to Scene one. What was a mistake was showing the Nazis. I explained to my friend that the audience is supposed to think that they are watching a contemporary play and should be "surprised" when instead of the landlord coming in to the apartment the Nazis do.

A couple of other times the Nazis come through the theater and shine their flashlight on the audience. (It's a small theater) I think that also was a mistake to include the audience and they ended the first act by telling the audience that they are all going to Dachau (setting for Act 2)

The actor who played the head guard in Act 2 was rather weak and maybe directed like that. I never believed he was menacing enough. He was almost benign.

The curtain call was most interesting. Instead of the actors coming in and taking a bow, they entered, stood still; clasped their hands and bowed their heads.

Over all it was very good production and would give it 3.5 stars out of 5

I just had a frustrating situation last night resolved.

My mom asked me to make some photos for her on her account at costco (to do them online). I wanted to do them this morning. But i figured i should try to log in last night just to make sure i remembered the password i set up in feb.

Anyhow i go to the login page and nothing. The password i remember (and a few others do not work). I check the email they sent when i did it in feb but they do not list the password.

So i click the button for them to send the password. Nothing. it won't send it to me. I try to create a new account. It won't let me.

So i go to bed. Then this morning i try again. But this time i click on photo department. There is another place to enter your username and password and this time the password i remembered worked first try???

Like couldn't they put this in the faq. I spent an hour last night and went to bed crabby. I'm guessing maybe most people that want photos just start the photo process. But i didn't want to do that because i wasn't sure of the password. Oy!

This is one of the posters which was created. The other one that they displayed at the theater was aimed for their gay audiences. Two men had their shirts off.

Congratulations to MR BK on his new car CD player/radio/IPOD.....very nice.

KISS ME KATE went well last night with a very responsive audience.  We were sold out, hopefully tonight we will have a good show as well.

I have never seen BENT....onstage.  I saw a bit of the movie, but didn't get to see it from the beginning, so I didn't watch it all.

TOD

I got on the internet in 1998 by signing up with Freeweb.com!  No monthly charge, dial up, all you did was buy a disc for $89 and install......of course they went out of business about six months later...

I used YAHOO for awhile....the first day I logged on, I also signed up at EBAY!

Did lots of searches for movies and stars and theater.  Very interesting.  And I have been on the NET everyday since then.

When did I first get on the Internet?

Probably in the early 1990s.  I don't really recall when.

I think that my first purchase was a laser disc...or two...or three.

I first got on the net at my sisters house around 1996 or so and the first website I looked at was the old "B Movie Monster" site.

Around 1997 or 98 I got my first computer and signed up with AOL. My very first Ebay buy was this: a King Kong salt and pepper set.

Good morning,  all! Another free day, and I am lovin' it.

I have nothing major to report. Tonight I'm seeing a play at Horace Mann that the students who have graduated are returning to perform in, and Charlotte, my goddaughter, has one of the roles. I need to call Ron and ask what time we are heading to the performance.

I never liked BENT much; I thought most of the second act and the ending were bad and unbelievable.

TOD. I first got AOL in 1992 or 1993, it was before the world wide web was up and running and all you could do was type words, there really weren't many pictures to speak of.  I got involved with a group of people who discussed the OJ Simpson trial.  We were something of a family, like this group.  I met a couple of them, but I sort of lost contact with them over the years.

I don't remember the first thing I bought or the first thing I bought on eBay

TOD: We got the internet in 1998 -- AOL. We had the one free month, and the day after that was over, I was banned for life. I bought a lot of vintage postcards on ebay for my girls: Evelyn Nesbit for DR Sandra and Marilyn Monroe for DR Megan.

I didn't eat very much all day. Mostly some fruit I had in the room from the farmer's market on Wednesday.  Last night at the cocktail party they had a fruit and cheese table and some marinated vegetables to much on and some really good breads.

Dinner started with a nice spinach salad with oranges and I can't exacxtly remember the dressing.  Then dinner was a grilled chicken breast and a small steak - both very moist and delicious.  Mashed Sweet potatoes and a little squash.  Gelato for dessert.  I didn't take photos.

I did stop and get a little pineapple sorbet on the way back to the room.

I played Greta in the only production of BENT which has been done in Charlotte. It was a wonderful production, and I was very proud of the theater that put it on to take a chance with it. We had full houses; the gay community really came out to see it.

Greta sings "Streets of Berlin" during the show (the music for the song is completely different in the movie), and the costume designer had me in a Marlene Dietrich-like wig and white satin dress and spiked heels. This was my favorite moment in the show. I had an accordian accompanying me, I was in a spotlight, and I truly felt like a star. It's just for that song and one scene; Greta's role is small, but it made a profound impression on me.

Incidentially, it's the only time I've ever donned drag either on or off stage.

When I finally shifted over from Atari to IBM computers, I was going to hook onto the Microsoft Network, but it was so early in its existence that there was no local Charlotte number for the MSN. I would have had to use long distance.

So, I used Prodigy for awhile until I switched over to AOL. I can't remember what the first site I ever went to was. I do know it wasn't Ebay. I didn't go there for a long time, and the first thing I got there was a laserdisc of some MGM musical. I can't remember now what it was.

My work project today will be the Blu-ray edition of THE SEVENTH SEAL. Having already watched the movie on DVD and written it up along with its bonus features, it'll be just a matter of sitting through it again in HD and noting particular aspects of the picture and sound I want to comment on in the new review. Then, I'll need to note whether the bonuses have been ported over in SD or HD. I should have time tonight to watch something for fun.

TOD:

I can't remember what year we first got Internet access.  We never went the AOL route, but had had a cheap, free email service for some years.  I do remember, just prior to finally getting connected to the Internet, that I went through the Arts and Leisure section of the Sunday New York Times, making lists from the ads of all the sites I wanted to visit when we got connected.

My first ebay auction [and WIN!] was a VHS copy of Sondheim's Evening Primrose.  Highly bootleg illegal.

TOD - I first used the internet at work (Miami University) as an adjunct faculty member in the teacher education department, a job I started in the fall of 1994.  It was all text-based, so I used email and some discussion groups.  It was during my 3 years in that job that the WWW became part of our lives and I was able to get a lot of in-service training from the University.  I remember designing a lesson for aspiring teachers, where I asked them to find 3 sites for fun, 2 sites that would be useful in their teaching, and 1 site that they wouldn't want their students to find by accident.  They found some doozies.  It was all so new then...

We connected here at home in late 1996 or early 1997, first using a local ISP called Infinet, then transitioning to Road Runner (Time Warner).  I remember comparing the planning of our 1996 driving vacation out west (pre-Internet) to the planning of our 1999 driving vacation to the east coast (post-Internet).  Totally different experiences!

Last nights WELCA dinner show went very well despite the Vixter having been sent home from school witha raging headache and terribly sore throat - she called me from school asking if she could come home and being a person who knows what is importnat  and what is not replied - "of course! You have a show tonight!"  So Vixnana (aka Vixmomsmom) collected her from school and the Vioxter did the salt water gargle, took a  long nap and a long hot shower and by 7 PM  she performed like a trouper!!

She even hit all the high notes in Seasons of Love

Her performanace of Taylor the Latte Boy was the hit of the night (said the mother modestly and with no bias whatsoever)

We've done the Internet thing before, but not the first site visited - but I always love these stories so keep 'em coming.  The first time I really got on the Internet was, I think, either the very end of 1997 or the very end of 1998, when I was given Web TV for Christmas (I didn't have a computer, and wouldn't get one until 2000).  The Web TV booklet had a couple of recommended sites, including their version of Usenet.  I was up until five in the morning and, of course, found eBay immediately.  Trying to bid in those pre-snipe days was pretty frustrating with dial-up and with eBay's totally amateurish programming and frequent crashes.  I lost as much as I won.  I believe the first item I ever won from eBay was a Pez machine of some vintage - from a gal in Culver City - I even drove down and picked it up in person.  I believe the second item I won was a little Buddha, which the description told me was very good luck.  How I even found such a thing I'll never know, but it still sits on my piano.

The WELCA dinner was at our church so the school had no jurisdiction!

She had performed at the school's Spring Concert  on Thursday night and  had been rehearsing hard for both shows all week as well as church choir rehearsals - that combined with her pollen allergies and several late nights are what I think contributed to her condition on Friday morning -

last night she went right to bed as soon as we came home but this morning she seems fine again

DAW has been one of the Kritzerland guinea pigs (the other was JMK, for the first go-round) - he's been very thorough and very helpful and has just sent a few more nitpicky things which I've forwarded to Doug, and who will, I'm sure, implement them.  The only thing that won't really work for another couple weeks are the pages for my books, which I think have to be created anew - Doug knows about it, but he's let a lot of other projects slide and he has to prepare the booklet for our next release, so those won't be up until the very end of the month.

No future for adjuncts - the dirty secret of academia.  I taught on a semester-to-semester basis, few fringe benefits, no raise for 10 years, etc.  Met my needs when I was trying to be a mostly stay-at-home Mom, but eventually I needed a real job, so went back to library work when Rob finished elementary school.  Now, I'd teach again in a minute, if anybody asked.

That sounds so interesting!  Why did you give up teaching college?

No future for adjuncts - the dirty secret of academia.  I taught on a semester-to-semester basis, few fringe benefits, no raise for 10 years, etc.  Met my needs when I was trying to be a mostly stay-at-home Mom, but eventually I needed a real job, so went back to library work when Rob finished elementary school.  Now, I'd teach again in a minute, if anybody asked.

Maybe you should ask! For instance- I would imagine a course on grant seeking would be immensely interesting and  useful!

TOD:  We first got internet in the early 90's.  Started with e-mail.  I have no idea what the first site I visited was, and I certainly didn't know what the possibilities were then.  I think the first thing I bought was an M & M logo watch from e-bay.  As I recall, the basic shipping of a a few dollars was more than the watch itself.

And the new recording uses a real orchestra with no sythesizers and the original orchestrations (or at least they only list the original orchestrators).  That's got to count for something. :)

The first time that I was on the inner-web was in the mid-1990s for work.  It was mainly for e-mail, but the library system built its own website and shortly thereafter, I got www access for my home.  Actually, it was when I was living with my sister and I got to use one of her AOL account screennames.  We had that for a couple of years, then she decided to not use AOL anymore.  We then got separate accounts through the cable system...attbi.com was the domain at the time.  Eventually that became Comcast and I've been with Comcast ever since.  I've had cable Internet for so long (especially at work) that I still find it hard to imagine still having dial-up service.  Of course, there's the price, but that's a separate issue. ;)

As for eBay...I don't remember how I found out about eBay or purchasing through the Internet, in general.  I remember the early days of eBay and not being able to "watch" anything.  You had to either bid or bookmark the page.  And when they finally did introduce "watching," you could only watch 20 items at a time.  It was like a drug.  Ooo!!!  I want that...and that...and that!  As for the very first thing that I ever actualy got from eBay... ::) This is a public site.  'Nuff said.

And I don't even smoke!

But one item that I won very early in my eBay experinces that I love (and still have) was a set of 36 slides from 1975 of The Manhattan Transfer in concert (it looks like a small cabaret setting) that I got from the photographer.  When I told this story before, I think Vixmom said she dated him!  His first name was Gordon but I can't remember his last night, right now.

Good afternoon, I was seminared out and realized I hadn't been outside (other than a quick peek at the pool) since Wednesday! So I walked to Harrah's and got on the monorail which I took to the Sahara and then walked back down the strip to the Palazzo.  It's only about 1 1/2 - 2 miles, but it really felt good to get outside.

I had 2 comp tickets to Madam Toussad's that I got for going to the spa, so I decided to go.  I used one ticket and gave the other to someone in line behind me.   It was a woman with two teenagers. I figured since it's $25 per person she could use the help. She seemed very pleased to get the comp ticket.   It was ok, but I don't think it's worth paying full price.  Free, it was worth it.

Let's see, I shopped, went to a buffet for brunch, did some shopping and am now in the room relaxing before getting ready to go to Phantom tonight.

Very glad I decided to just play today and go where the day takes me.  I was really tired and I'm feeling a bit rejuvinated.

Listened to 2 hours of Ray Charles, (love the genius loves company duet cd), and this morning when I woke up listened to both Guy Haines cd's.   So I feel pretty cheerful.

I liked Dixie Carter's video.  It probably really works.  I don't think my neighbors would like it, my voice can be really loud.

Read today's posts.  Thank you for the vibes.   I talked to my friends in Ventura, her grandmother is 92 and his mother is 93, they are both going through the same thing so I got advise on what to do.

Dear Michael S:  I did make reservations for both Monday and Tuesday night.  I will be there no matter what happens.

Although I did have to stop myself from singing some of the songs at work last week.

We live in California, remember??   LOL

Talk to ya later, and hopefully catch up on yesterday and the day before.

Yes, one of the greats, and the DVD is a beautiful trasnfer, too. I just rewatched it a couple of months ago.

I have not seen the new GODFATHER restorations on Blu-ray. I reviewed the DVDs when they came out some months ago, and while I thought they were definitely improvements on the previous release, they still didn't wow me. (III looked by far the best of the three.)

I began my evening rewatching THE SEVENTH SEAL, this time on Blu-ray. Exquisite encoding, and I liked that the contrast wasn't dialed up too intensely. It looked perfect to my eyes, very natural looking.

I finished the episode of NCIS that I started, the one with Ziva working undercover trying to locate the other part of the two man team who was killing wives of Marines who were being unfaithful to their husbands. I had forgotten the identity of the guilty party, so that was a nice discovery when the revelation finally came.

I was determined tonight to choose something to watch for fun from my stack of unwatched HD-DVDs. It's not a huge stack (the Blu-ray stack is three times as high), but most of the movies I have not watched yet are very long: GRAND PRIX, BABEL, SEABISCUIT. But in the stack I did have THE KINGDOM, and so that's what I watched tonight.

It's a very good political thriller/procedural with Jamie Foxx, Chris Cooper, Jason Bateman, Jennifer Garner, Jeremy Piven, and Richard Jenkins. Thoroughly enjoyed it though, of course, it was quite violent.

To conclude my evening of viewing, I cracked open season four of THE CLOSER. I had rewatched the season premiere the other day off TNT-HD, so I started with the second episode with the man run over twice by the same car. I did remember the identities of the perps, but it was still a very enjoyable episode. I'm going to enjoy making my watch back through season four whenever I get a break from my reviewing duties.

I'm back from seeing Charlotte play Sian in a peculiar British black comedy that reminded me of Albee's Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf mixed with a lot of British black comedy and absurdist theatre, DINNER by Moira Buffini. When the play began, I thought of Joe Orton and his elevated comic dialogue combined with blood and violence, and when the uninvited guest Mike showed up, I thought, Hmmmmmm, Harold Pinterland. I'm not sure I liked the play much although I laughed at the outrageousness of it all, knowing that we were heading to something violent at the end. It reminded me a bit of Mark Ravenhill's play (I'm loathe to call it a comedy) Shopping and Fucking, which made me laugh but I felt was an unsatisfying piece of playwriting, but I spent a lot of time wondering why this play was the selection for the Horace Mann graduated students; perhaps because thet got to say a lot of profanities and be outrageous? Overall, the play required more mature actors and I think I'd still be apathetic after laughing at its deliberate attempts to shock.

The nice thing was that Charlotte's mother Dona flew back early from Portland, ME, where she directs the Potrtland Opera Company, and Charlotte's wonderful godmother Celia Weston came along as well. We were joined at the school by Chalotte's best gay friend Gregg, who's attending the Joffrey School of Ballet.

As for the Topic of the Day...

I seem to remember my parents buying a computer for the house when I was a junior or senior in high school, so that would have been around 1985-86.

Prodigy was my first connection to the internet.

And I've have to say that my first true World Wide Web experience happened in the computer labs during my freshman year at college.

I  bought some Beef heart last night at the grocery store because it was quite inexpensive. I have been trying to find an easy recipe to use for the crock pot. So far everything seems to require ingredients I don't have and really don't want to have to purchase. Oh, well.

Beef Heart Stew

INGREDIENTS
1 medium beef heart, rinsed and cubed
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 large onion, peeled and sliced
1 cup water
2 teaspoons salt
1/2 teaspoon seasoned salt

DIRECTIONS
Dredge the beef heart in flour until coated. Heat the oil in a Dutch oven over medium-high heat. Fry the pieces of heart until browned. Stir in onions and water. Season with salt and seasoning salt. Cover, reduce heat to low, and simmer for 2 to 3 hours, or until the meat is very tender. Serve over noodles or mashed potatoes.

Place in Bosco's bowl.

Call Domino's

As for my first purchase off the internet...  Hmm...

As far as e-Bay is concerned, I bought one thing about ten years ago - a gift for Steve.  However, I do remember helping a friend "snipe" in a computer lab one time before that.  She had four of us checking the prices during the closing seconds of the auction.

DR MBarnum - You can also just braised the beef hearts in some red wine.  Just season with salt, pepper and whatever else you have, like in the cupboard.  Just throw the in the pot, cover them with red wine, bring to a boil, then lower to a simmer... Cook until edible. ;)

Back from the All That Chat party and a dinner afterwards at Rachel's (where even jesse21 had time to join us).

Much to my surprise and delight,  a fellow who goes by NYCJoshua with whom I've found myself sparring on the chat board reminded me that online temperaments can be deceiving.  He turned out to be loads of fun in person.

I also finally got to meet Matt Windman, who was singlehandedly responsible for getting the momentum going on people watching my FISH "Jeremy Piven parody" video by posting it to his AM New York blog, from whence it spread like so much fish.

And I was overjoyed that Nancy Opel performed one of my parody ditties, accompanied on piano by Skip.

Well, I'm packed, so tomorrow morning should be relatively painless. I just need to put in a wake up call and set the alarm.   Last Wednesday I got here pretty early, but the hotel computers went down about the time that a lot of the attendees were checking in and I guess it was a total mess.  I talked to several people who after 3 or 4 hours just went to another hotel.  Long story Long, I just don't want to rely on the same computer system to wake me up in the morning.

The weather forecast isn't great for home tomorrow, but I have a direct flight to Omaha so at least there won't be connection issues if flights are delayed etc.

Time for sleep.   Good night Las Vegas.   It's actually funny, I get up early and go to bed early so it's quiet when I'm up in the morning and right when it gets really insane in the main public areas of the resort/casino, I go to my room.   Sometimes being out of step with the world is very relaxing.

I had a good time but am ready to go home.
