Well, you've read the notes, the notes had two **'s in the title, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're currently trying to figure out what those two ** mean.

I went to Penn Station yesterday and picked up my ticket, purchased by my boss, under his name. It says on the ticket Valid Photo ID Required and ID Required on Board. Since I'm not my boss I wonder if I get asked for ID what will happen? I've already e-mailed my boss and said I may be calling at 7:20 to have him vouch for me to the conductor. Metro Park is the first stop (I've been told) after Penn Station so at least if I get put off the train I can look for my boss and get back on (he's boarding at Metro Park).

Last night (after reassembling my sister's metal shelves for her new garage), we had our very first run-through of "Romeo & Juliet"!  I got there at the appointed time of 7:00 pm.  We didn't start the actual run-through until about 7:50 pm but we didn't finish until 10:45!! :o Chris our director said that we should be able to tighten up the running time.  I certainly hope so.  But, since I'm only in four scenes (one with no dialogue), I don't really care. ;) And tonight, we move into the actual performing space!  We'll have a week and a half on the actual set...that will be nice.

Good morning, all! I just looked at the 1979 calendar, and tomorrow is the 30th anniversary of my move to New York. I've been thinking a lot about the move and the madness prior to the event in the past couple of weeks. I've also been having lots of dreams involving deceased friends and relatives and sometimes my parents that have got me a bit freaked. While I'm not sure I want to live to be 80. I'm also pretty sure that I don't want to die any time soon and these dreams are a bit rattling.

Enough gloom and doom. This week I celebrate the 30 years of life in Manhattan and the fantastic friends I've made because of the move.  We also have to celebrate tonight's premiere of the musical version of a new musical, THE FIRST NUDIE MUSICAL!

Today, I have to see my accountant about the NY State tax bill, run to the post office and send Miss Kim Criswell a score, hit the bank, run some music down to Toyland and fax it to one of our colleagues working on BABES IN TOYLAND. I also need to schedule an appointment for Wednesday morning with my barber.

I did have some good news for Jerome Moross fans: Alfred Publishing is going to publish for the first time ever THE GOLDEN APPLE, in the Piano-Conductor score I edited for the Moross family several years ago. Now if we could only get some kind foundation or arts supporter to provide us with $300,000 to make a complete recording!

Does anyone know what's going on with DR Dakotacelt? She's been E&T for some time.  I sent her a message on Facebook but I've had no response.

DR Elmore - 30 years ago!  I remember it like it was yesterday.  About 30 people gathered in the driveway of the home of the friend who took you to the airport and when he raised the garage door, we all sang, "What Will We Do Without You-oo?"  Remember?

I think I was crying too much and worrying about the visit to my parents' house to pick up some things since the difficulties between us had been quite ugly in the previous months.  My mother's only words to me were, "If you need anything, call us." God bless her.

I went to see UP this weekend and while I can't say that it's my favorite Pixar film it's still very enjoyable and the animation is astounding.  I was probably a little disappointed that it went in the action/adventure direction it did so early in the film, but I guess it does so because that is one of the main themes of the movie. Also, I felt that it asks its audience to make several large leaps of faith, but then, it is a cartoon.

SPOILER WARNING!!!

I was kind of surprised by the level of violence at the climax:  the film's villain (who didn't seem to care who was in his range of gunfire) was shockingly and assuredly dispatched for a human in a Pixar--not to mention Disney--movie (unless there are plans for a sequel afoot.)

I hope to get more LOST episodes watched while waiting for my lunch ride to arrive today. Usually on Monday, best friend John picks me up, but he's usually 10-15 minutes late. Combine that with my being ready at least 20 minutes before time, and that should give me enough time to get almost through another episode. I know I won't finish up the set today (as much as I'd like to). There are just too many bonus features, and there is at least one more commentary as well.

A couple of reminders about reruns on tonight's TV schedule:

THE BIG BANG THEORY airs twice: 8 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. CBS is trying to get viewers used to finding the show at 9:30 where it moves in the fall.

LIE TO ME airs its pilot tonight at 9 on FOX. This will be its new home on the FOX fall schedule.

Until I can finish with LOST, looks like I'm only going to be able to watch one prime-time show at a time. Tonight it will undoubtedly be THE CLOSER which I'll record at 9 and likely (as I did last night with TRUE BLOOD) watch around 10:10. This will carry me up to my 11 p.m. cutoff time.

DR ELMORE such dreams are to be expected during this moon phase.

Last night I dreamed I went to the first day of rehearsal for a new play.....and it wasn't our first rehearsal, it was opening night.....which of course can be interpreted as my feeling unprepared for my auditions and subsequent direction of MAN OF LA MANCHA.

That's reassuring! Thanks, DR JRand58. I mailed your photo this morning. I'm working on a Bert Lahr number from LIFE BEGINS AT 8:40; he's playing famous baritone Lawrence Haines (Guy's operatic brother maybe?) and singing a very vapid art song modeled on "Trees" entitled "Things." During the number, he sings off-key, fights with the pianist, loses his toupe, picks his teeth, and at the end of the aria, Luella Gear throws a cream pie in his face. It's your kind of an aria, DR JRand58!

Good morning, DR Michael S!

Dan and I did "Lovely" from FORUM.....and were presented with the BEST DRAMATIC performance award.  I was not quite sure what to think about that, although it may have had to do with the choice of singing the song in two different keys.....well three if you count what Lilli Vanessi was doing on the piano.

How nice that JRand can make sense of his dreams. I guess I need my own Dream-o-matic. Perhaps I should check eBay.

My parents like taking their cruises from NYC so they don't have to fly to miami (they can drive or take the bus to NYC). Last year they took a cross-Atlantic cruise that then went to italy and other places.

Isn't that a 2 day drive?  How many days were they at sea before reaching a port?

No, not driving to miami. They drive/take the bus to NYC (which is only 6 hours away).

I'm not sure exactly how many days it took them from NYC to cross the ocean. At least a few days (3-4).

And as promised, here's the advance notice for the new Kritzerland release.  As always, you can pre-preorder by going to paypal.com and paying directly to kritzerland at adelphia dot net.  Price is 19.98 plus 3.75 shipping.

HELLO, CAROL!

Kritzerland is proud to present the first ever CD release for the Original Cast Recording of Show Girl, starring Carol Channing along with Jules Munshin and Les Quat’ Jeudis.

Show Girl, a musical revue with songs and sketches by Charles Gaynor, opened on Broadway January 12, 1961.  Miss Channing received not only critical love letters but also a Tony nomination for Best Actress.  It was, by all accounts, a tour de force performance on stage and it’s captured brilliantly on the cast album.  Very much of its time, the material is still somehow fresh and funny (and some of it is surprisingly topical), and Mr. Gaynor’s songs are tuneful and clever.

Jules Munshin and Les Quat’ Jeudis lend excellent support, and if you’re at all a fan of Miss Channing or the old-fashioned musical revue, then Show Girl is just the front row seat you’re looking for.  And if you’ve never heard Miss Channing do “The Inside Story” you might find yourself falling out of that front row seat, howling with laughter.

The CD is a Limited Edition of 1000 copies only.

The price is $19.98 plus shipping.

CDs will ship the end of July  – however, as those who’ve ordered directly from Kritzerland know, preorders placed directly through Kritzerland usually ship one to five weeks ahead of the street date.

This week I celebrate the 30 years of life in Manhattan and the fantastic friends I've made because of the move....

Congrats, Elmore on your 30 years in New York!! ;D

I had about 10 minutes of time left, and I used it by watching the first ten minutes of last week's THE FASHION SHOW. The mini challenge this week was to design a tee shirt for a high school girl running for class president. The girl got to choose the winner, and, of course, she chose the most prosaic and uninteresting of the shirts. The winner, totally undeserving, won immunity in the next challenge. Don't know if I'll have time to finish the show today, but I'll definitely get to it tomorrow.

Well, I need to go.  My back has been hurting me since this morning and I don't want to deal with it at work any more.

Starting tonight, rehearsals are at the space where we'll be performing!  FORTUNATELY, I don't have any fighting to do, and the one time that I have to kneel is at the end of the second act, which I don't think we're going to do tonight.  So, until later!

Back from our rehearsal - we ran all of act one - somewhat sloppy and low energy - hoping everyone is energized by the audience.  The mic situation isn't wonderful and I had to adjust a few things so people would be closer to them - the upstage stuff, of which there is a lot, isn't getting picked up by the six floor mics.  I had to be quite terse a couple of times with people who made the same old mistakes yet again.  Otherwise, it moved right along, and we did get to run the first fifteen minutes of act two as well, so that was good.  It will be what it will be.

I was just watching the footage on the president's address about medicine. The big concern is socialized medicine from the conservatives.

So, they don't like the government getting in bed here but they have no problem throwing the goverment in bed with God when it comes to marriage? Color me puzzled. Again.

TEEN WAKES UP TO 3-FOOT SNAKE STARING AT HIM IN BED

A New York city teen came face-to-fang with a 3-foot boa constrictor Sunday that slithered uninvited into the youngster's home — a jarring confrontation that had the whole family in a panic.

"The snake was just staring at me," said a shaken Kareem Lewis, 18.
The close encounter came around 10 a.m., when Lewis was waking up in the family's first-floor apartment on Sherman Avenue.

"I started to panic when he started to slither at me," said Lewis, whose mom was at church.

Geez, the poor thing was just looking for something warm against which to cuddle!

Many was the morn when I had Fred (a four-footer) dumped on me in bed while my son took his shower. (That is unless Sidney, the blind white rat, had already claimed the spot.

There are "worse" ads/billboards in NYC.  And, in fact, that Calvin Klein ad just happens to be doors down from the SoHo location of American Apparel - which has certainly not been known for their "family friendly" ads.

I guess it must be a slow news day.  I mean, that "story" popped up on Gawker.com this morning - and then was picked up by some of the "major" news outlets...

Now how about the whole Sarah Palin v. David Letterman "feud"? ;)

Sidney was also safe from the boa constrictor?

Well, we did try to keep some separation. Actually Sidney was purchased as a baby for Fred's dinner, but Fred wasn't hungry. We took the rat out of the cage for fear it would bite the disinterested snake. Naturally, my daughter immediately adopted him as a pet and would not hear of us putting him back in the cage. Sidney grew to a right good size, probably too big for Fred. Although stone blind, Sidney was bright, curious, and very affectionate. He knew how to get out of his cage and follow baseboards from room to room. Once in our bedroom, he made a dash under the covers at the foot of the bed and scampered up my body to find a spot on the pillow nestled in the crook of my neck. You know you are living in a surrealist world when your midnight reaction to tiny feet scampering over your body is just a "Ho, Hum - it's only Sidney").

der Brucer

Note - the first few times Sidney pulled that stunt, my reactions were NOT "Ho Hum"! And I never really got used to Fred crawling up my pants leg.

Once it came out that the daughter in question was 14 year old Willow and not 18 year old Bristol, Dave was dead meat!

Palin's getting sympathetic press, and Letterman is coming off as a defensive jerk.

And as for Palin V. Letterman... She just needs to start talking about the bigger picture - which could entail that Calvin Klein ad that was posted and referred to earlier. But, alas, as long The Press continues to cover the issue, well...

And speaking of the situation in Iran...

It seems that Twitter is having quite the banner week.  They're the cover story of this week's "Time" magazine.  The "140 Conference" is taking place here in NYC tomorrow and Wednesday.  And since Twitter has been a "critical" and "crucial" communication tool among Iranians and those covering the protests, Twitter re-scheduled their scheduled down-time tonight in order not to break the lines of communication in Iran.

As for Letterman I think he should have apologized no matter which daughter the joke was about.  After all Bristol was 17 when she got "knocked up".  Even if she was 18 the joke was inappropriate.  As far as I know Alex Rodriguez is keeping quiet regarding.  Palin made her point and now I think she should be quiet on the subject.

Great apartment news, DR Jose!

It is indeed, DR Ginny!

It's sort of funny how this all worked out.  I had a couple of responses to the original ad a few weeks ago, and even set up some times for people to look at the apartment.  However, none(!) of them bothered to show up to look at the apartment, nor did they call to cancel or say that they weren't going to show up.

Last night, I got an email from someone who happened to be helping her younger brother find a place in the City.  We set everything up last night via email between 10:00-11:00pm.  They showed up right on time about an hour ago, and as soon as they walked in, I could tell they wanted to take the apartment.  And, apparently, my intuition was right!  It turned out that one of their friends has also been looking for a new place to live... She went outside to make some phone calls while I talked with her brother... A few minutes later she came back, and said, "So, what do we need to do to move in?"...

:)

I saw it, it wasn't an apology, he just said he meant the 18 year old and that he's tasteless.  I'm just not going to watch him anymore.  He was out of bounds, no question about it.  I don't think that the Obamas should have tasteless things said about them, but they are the only people I know who are out of bounds on tasteless jokes.  I think some people are just reacting to that

Is it okay with everyone if I scream like a little girl?

Eeeeeeeeeekkkkkkk!!!!!

I've never even had hope that this one would see the light of day!  I love Carol Channing in SHOW GIRL!  But I've always lived in dread playing my extremely scratchy LP--I've probably lessened the life of my stereo stylus the few times that I did play it.  I did make a cassette recording at one time or another but who plays cassettes anymore?  Now thanks to BK and Kritzerland, I will have me some carefree SHOW GIRL!

Yee Haw!

Now how about the whole Sarah Palin v. David Letterman "feud"? ;)

Once it came out that the daughter in question was 14 year old Willow and not 18 year old Bristol, Dave was dead meat!

Palin's getting sympathetic press, and Letterman is coming off as a defensive jerk.

Match Point - Palin

der Brucer

If Letterman can make "slutty stewardess " cracks about Palin, I guess "Cotton-picker " fashion cracks about the Obamas are fair game.

But the stupid bitch does dress like a slutty stewardess.

Good Evening!

It was sunny.  THen it was cloudy.  Then it rained.  Then is rained A LOT.  Then it stopped.  And then the sun came out again - today, not tomorrow.

We got no rain. I was disappointed.

That was wise & nice of Twitter.

David Letterman did apologize for his "tasteless comment".  In fact, he devoted a whole segment to his apology.

But then came Sarah Palin's interview on "The Today Show" with Matt Lauer... And on... And on... And on...

Yep. Playing the victim can be a lucrative (in terms of sentiment) for her, and I'm sure she'll exploit it.

So it's fine to trash a woman, call her a slut when she's happily married and make outrageous sexual comments about her children all because you don't agree with her politics.  Gee, what's wrong with an Obama monkey joke or two then.  I sure don't see the difference.

There were so many great moments in the second season. I lot of people were down on the show during Season 2, but rewatching it these past two days, it's equally as good as the Emmy-winning Season One.

Then, I ended my evening watching THE CLOSER.

The episode was fine, but the surprise was spoiled somewhat because of who was cast as the chauffeur. Naturally I recognized Miguel Sandoval's voice on the phone so the game was given away to a certain extent.

He clearly didn't mean a word of his apology so I don't blame her for not accepting it.  He's trashed her in ways that are extremely demeaning to women since she first started running.  come to think about it, he's always been demeaning to women.  I think it's about time someone called him on it

If folks are free to wear what they want to wear when they want to wear it and where they want to wear  it, others certainly have the freedom to speak up and out about how the perceive that mode of dress.

I cannot understand how you don't see a difference between someone being called a slutty dresser -- which is a value judgement based on moral choices -- and the blatant racism of equating President Obama with a monkey.

It has nothing to do with what I think of Palin.  I don't adore her or anything, I liked her, but nothing like the blind worship of Obama that was so prevelant around the country. I do think she got a bum rap.  David Letterman's comments about Palin have always been sexist.  I don't see the difference between sexist remarks about a female politician and racist remarks about an African American politician.  That's my point.

I HAD A GREAT TIME.  I'M SURE PEOPLE THOUGHT I WAS NUTS BOUNCING IN MY SEAT TO THE SONGS, BUT I WAS REALLY HAPPY TO BE THERE.

The First Nudie Musical staged reading was fun, I get to see it again tomorrow.

The cast was great, (  I really should not make any comments, let's face it I work in a machine shop with no experience in theatre at all),  and the material was great.  I'm just cheerful right now.  That's what going to see a show is for me, to still be happy when I get home.

LETTERMAN APOLOGIZES TO PALIN FOR 'BAD JOKE'

David Letterman took his biggest step to put the furor surrounding his jokes about Gov. Sarah Palin's daughters behind him during the taping of his show Monday.

In remarks broadcast Monday night, Letterman directly apologized to the Palin family for the coarse jokes he made last Monday.
"I would like to apologize, especially to the two daughters involved, Bristol and Willow, and also to the governor and her family and everybody else who was outraged by the joke. I’m sorry about it and I’ll try to do better in the future," Letterman told the studio audience.

Palin issued a statement after the broadcast early Tuesday, saying she accepted the late night host's apology.

And this should be The End.

Back from our first show, some of which I was happy with and some not so much.  But it was great to get it out of the way, and I'm hoping for even more fun in our second show.  I actually don't know if there could have been a way for it to be better tonight, given our one time only run-through and people still groping with the logistics and no real acting rehearsals.  But this first time LA reading is what it is - we've all learned valuable lessons about how best to spend the limited number of rehearsal hours, and next time, in the NY version of the reading, we'll get it better.

Back finally.  Went out for drinks and a late dinner with BK and some of the cast.  It's nice to finally have the show up and open (insert Stunt Cock jokes here).  I second what BK said - some parts were killer tonight; others can use some tweaking.  But we asked the cast to be there a half hour earlier, just to fix some trouble spots.

The folks that I knew that came tonight really enjoyed themselves.  (Insert second round of Stunt Cock jokes here)

George, I think you'll enjoy your new operable skylight. I had two in my last house and they REALLY helped to ventilate the house.

Thanks!  I can't wait! :D
