That said, I've probably watched THE GODFATHER more than any other DVD.

Good morning, all, from Invalid Central! I have no idea what's going on with everyone this week, and I'll try to be au courant ASAP. I won't be online long: I'm waiting for Ron Raines to deliver my diabetes med Metformin and Vicodin and a muscle relaxant from the pharmacy, which my doctor called in last night.

Yesterday was another frustrating day: after dragging myself on Wednesday to the East Side, the damned lab still has not sent the x-rays to my doctor's office to let her see the results, and she's unhappy as well. I believe what I have is a really bad form of sciatica, and I suspect that Doctor Shibani is trying to ascertain if the Vitorin prescribed by my former doctor has precipitated muscle damage in my lower back to bring on the attack.

Onn Thursday night Ron brought over the pain meds from his last round of minor surgery and they've helped me, along with a dose of Nyquil, to actually get a good night's rest.

The high point yesterday was a wonderful visit from our DR Jose, who kindly ran several errands for me, including banking and a grocery run. I am so grateful to him  and Ron and all my friends who've offered to give some time to me. And that's where I am this morning.

As to all the DRs, I hope everyone is well. I see much activity going on so
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Vibes to All DRs today for their travels, travails, and endeavors! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Have a good day, everyone!
Gypsy -- the musical submitted and selected by one of our directors as one of our two musicals for the 2009-10 season ... a bit of trivia that no one was dying to know, so didn't and wouldn't ask ... just a FYI for this Sat. morning ... a gratuitous post, so to speak ...
With nothing on tap to review (should have some things next week), I'll have a weekend to myself. I'd really like to get a couple of Blu-rays watched out of the stack (maybe THE WILD BUNCH next), and I know in the DVD stack I'll be watching A SONG IS BORN with Danny Kaye that I've never seen (I think it's his only starring picture I've never seen).
I also have more VERONICA MARS now that I'm getting close to the end of the first season. There may be four or five more episodes left, but I'm not certain.
DR Michael S - RE: Printing to/via a photocopier - You should still need some sort of printer driver.  Was this the first thing you printed from your MacBook (to a photocopier)?
Did the photocopier come up in your listing of available printers? or did you just send it to print "generically"?  I know when I've had to pop into a Kinko's and print something from my MacBook, I've always had to select the proper printer/copier, as well as make sure I had a compatible printer driver.
DR Michael S - (Part 3) - Pages isn't really a bad program.  However, it seems to be geared more toward presentation type documents - newsletters, basic video presentations, etc. I'm guessing the numerous and repeated formatting commands normally needed for a script may have "confused" things - unless there's a script template included with the program.  However, I'm still not sure that should have affected the printout of your PDF.
I would love a kitten! BUT Deuce would hate a kitten -- he groups all small, furry, scurrying things in the same family as squirrels -- and is not a happy camper whenever we've brought a cat into his house. He can not understand why we'd want to bring an outside animal inside...
Well, I'm so glad the show is over because yesterday, I started to feel a cold coming on.  And this morning, I'm in full-ikkyness mode. :P My head hurts, my body hurts and I have to blow my nose all the time.  AND I have to go to work today.  It's not an option.  This is our pay-the-bills-at-the-end-of-the-month time and it HAS to get done.  So, I'm going into work to get it done.  I know my cold is nothing like what Larry's going through, so please save your vibes for him.
Have a better day than I am, all!
I'm verklempt.  I've slowly been transferring old tapes to DVD in hopes of being able to assemble a little compilation for Gabe's Bar Mitzvah.  Today I did the tape from his birth through the last Christmas my entire family spent together in SLC, before my Mom died.  I had forgotten I had gotten to go through the house I grew up in (not the house we lived in later), and had filmed that.  I'm a wreck.
Attention Jrand 58 and Mikey!
Have you boys seen this at Wikipedia?
Quote
MYSTERY SOLVED: Actress June Kenney Found and Interviewed -- 1950's 'B' movie actress June Kenney, once lost and now found, has been interviewed by Paul and Donna Parla. Parla has interviewed and rediscovered numerous rare faces in the past from classic science fiction and horrors films. June Kenney was menaced in Bert Gordon's, THE SPIDER (1958) and later became one of Gordon's living dolls in everyone's favorite, ATTACK OF THE PUPPET PEOPLE (1958). The lovely miss Kenney was also Roger Corman's, TEENAGE DOLL (1957) and SORORITY GIRL (1957). June also joined the group of Corman's memorable VIKING WOMEN (1957)....she was a HOT CAR GIRL (1958) and Jack Hogan's love interest in the William Whitney directed CAT BURGLAR (1961). One of June's co-stars in 1958's, BLOODLUST was Brady Bunch tv dad, Robert Reed. It's been said that June Kenney mysteriously dissapeared from acting in 1963. Some sources site that June Kenney's co-star in Jerry Lewis', THE LADIES MAN, Karyn Kupcinet who died under mysterious circumstances may have been connected to the JFK assasination. June will speak to all of the above and more in her upcoming interview with Paul Parla written by Anthony DiSalvo and Jim Fetters. The June Kenney interview is slated to appear in issue # 73 of the genre popular publication, SCARY MONSTERS MAGAZINE in late 2009.
DR Michael S - RE: Printing to/via a photocopier - You should still need some sort of printer driver.  Was this the first thing you printed from your MacBook (to a photocopier)?
Did the photocopier come up in your listing of available printers? or did you just send it to print "generically"?  I know when I've had to pop into a Kinko's and print something from my MacBook, I've always had to select the proper printer/copier, as well as make sure I had a compatible printer driver.
I saved the file to a USB drive and printed it from that
TCB, if you want a kitty, now would be the time to go to the shelter and get one. Lots of kittens this time of year. Lots of adults, too.
You might even look into fostering a mama with babies if you have a spare room.
I have been in touch with the Humanne Society every day for the last month.  I have pretty well decided, that although I could never put another kitty through the pain of being declawed; there are a lot of adult cats who come into the shelter that have been previously declawed.  Since Nicky was declawed before I got him, I think it is only fair to him that his new brother or sister also be declawed.
When i asked the question yesterday i was not clear what the new show was. But today it is on the front cover of the Montreal Tv Times, with an article. It will be on m-f for 1hr 15 each night.
I actually still have not finished last season's shows. So i'll need to finish those before i watch these new ones.
Back from The Hollywood Show.  I never thought I would say it - I've been going to these shows for many, many years (since they began) and I've done a fair number of them - but today was just depressing.  I don't know why, really.  Maybe it's the vibe of the new owners and their constant announcements on the PA system.  Maybe I've just been to one too many shows - but even in the worst of the Ray Courts years, I never found it depressing, and I always had fun.  Oh, these new owners seem to have found a way to get crowds - it was very crowded.  They're apparently spending a good deal of money getting the word out, something Ray never did.  But it felt like a circus and I can't say I've ever felt that.  Less dealers than ever (and two really long-time dealers are done with this show, which is a shame), celebs in every nook and cranny (too many, I hate to say it) including the lobby area - and those poor celebs were not getting any traffic).  I just roamed the room a couple of times, talked to the one dealer left that I know, saw a couple of acquaintances, and did have a nice chat with old pals Donny Most and Anson Williams, both, as always, super friendly.  Others I noticed were Richard Kiel, George Lazenby, Rosanna Arquette (who doesn't much resemble herself anymore), Shelly Hack (still cute), Alan Young, Martine Beswick (shocking), Luciana Paluzzi (has aged gracefully), Kathy Najimy (who looked like a big ol' sourpuss), Billie Hayes (who always looks the same), Tom Bosley (really ancient-looking), The Fonz, Marion Ross, some younger types from more recent films and TV, Davy Jones (I thought he looked good, but you would NEVER EVER know it was the same guy), Barry Williams, Deborah van Valkenburg.  One of the people I was curious to see was Jill Schoelen, who I always thought was very cute - she cancelled though.  I wonder if Kenny Kingston, psychic, knew in advance that no one would be at his table - he and Bruce Weitz were stuck in no man's land in the lobby area.  Oh, yeah, Bill Daily and Jack Riley and Marcia Wallace were all there.  Marcia just looks odd, Bill looks fine, and Jack looks very frail.  Edd Byrnes was there (there aren't many that he's missed), Tanya Roberts (lip work - I almost said hi, but didn't think she'd remember me from our being in Racquet together), Ann Robinson (who never changes), Francine York (always there, along with some poor shmuck who might or might not be her husband), Erin Moran (scary), Maud Adams (still looks fine), etc.
It's been a semi frustrating but productive day.   They delivered the replacement mattress and discovered that there was never a center support on the frame when it was installed by the same store 3 1/2 years ago.  The deliver guy was pretty ticked off. I found it kind of amusing.
Anyway I went to the store and told my helpful salesman Kyle (he almost always waits on me there) what happened.  He brought up the sale in the computer and was more upset than I think I've seen him before.  He said he sold me a frame with a center support and was mad that they didn't deliver what he sold.   So he went and got what looks like deluxe frame and gave it to me free. Then he told me to sleep on the bed a couple nights and if the box spring isn't perfectly even to call him back and he'll send out a new one.
The frustrating part of the day revolves around the fact I can't for the life of me figure out what I did with Callie's meds.   I gave it to her upstairs last night and I had the dropper bottle in my hand when I came down stairs this morning. I have no idea where it went from there.  I have searched high and low and low and high. I have cleaned rooms where I was this morning... no luck.  So, I thought I'll just go get another dropper bottle and fill it from the big bottle I have in th cupboard.  Try to find a dropper bottle these days.  I've been to 5 stores and still haven't found one.  A pharmacist finally gave me a regular bottle and I bought a dropper.
I figured when I came home I'd find the original bottle, but still no luck
I did find some good things on sale.  My solar lights outside are trashed from the seasons.  I found a great clearance sale on them - about $3 a piece so I replaced those.  I also found a great sale on pillows and mattress pads so I got some for the new mattress.
The best thing is, I had to tear the whole bed etc apart, so there are no more dust bunnies living under my bed.  It's very clean there now.
Our Facebook class went very well this morning and we've been asked to do FB 102 (probably after Labor Day).  When I got home, Richard and I had lunch and then went to see the new Harry Potter movie.  I had trouble staying awake.
Is that a critique of the film?
Somewhat.  It's also an acknowledgement of the fact that I got up at 6:30 this morning!
Back from Grant's - the book looks fabulousssss - now to proof.  He was going very fast so I knew we'd missed a couple of style/format things (when I do e-mails or letters or stuff like that, we always indent on both sides so they're called out) - I've already found two such things and probably will find more.  But boy is it sharp-looking.
There was a great deal of discussion (?) yesterday regarding The Emmys.  I didn't see anyone else mention that Chandra Wilson was nominated in the category of "Outstanding Lead Actress In A Miniseries Or A Movie" for her performance in the TV film ACCIDENTAL FRIENDSHIP that was written by our very own, former DR Panni (Anna).
I missed that, thank you.  This is exciting news.
Unfortunately, Chandra has some incredible competition.
Shirley MacLaine in COCO CHANNEL
Drew Barrymore in GREY GARDENS
Jessica Lange in GREY GARDENS
Sigourney Weaver in PRAYS FOR BOBBY
I haven't seen any of the other performances.
That "little" error on the frame might have caused the mattress to sink in the middle.  I bet the salesman was upset.  I like how they handled everything.  I would shop there.
They are very good about making things right. I haven't had too many problems, but even when I just changed my mind on a couch and two chairs, they just sent a truck out to pick it up. No questions, no need to explain. I found another that was then delivered. There is never even any need to discuss or complain.  I just explain the stuation and they fix it.  It's Hom Furniture
I'm really having a bad shopping day.  First I needed cat food.  There is only one kind of canned food they will eat and that was the only one that Petco was out of.   Then I looked everywhere  for that stupid dropper bottle.  So tonight I go to get a few things I need to make strawberry ice cream.   I only need 1 TBSP of fresh lemon juice so the strawberries can macerate (new word for me) and guess what.  The store was out of lemons.  Out of lemons???  This is a huge grocery store and there wasn't even one lemon.
Well, I went to another store and bought all the ingredients even if I thought I already had them.  My strawberries are now macerating
Saw the Harry Potter film. I was bored and did not like it. My friends (the actors from the reading) liked it.
I found it slow moving and did not like the way it was photographed. All color was practically drained and rendered the images lifeless.
Sir Michael Gambon/Dumbledore had his largest role to date.
The children are growing and the actor play Mallfoy doesn't look at all like he has in the previous films.
The reading went well.
I have work to do on the play.
Dialogue to be cut, modified to make it easier to speak.
The play runs long so trims are in order.
I video taped it so I can hear how the dialogue sounds
I have little hope for the new Potter movie, since the previous ones have successively gotten worse and worse, and this is by the same untalented director who did the last one (and who is, sadly, doing the final two).
Yes, it's a category crowded with lauded performances. I haven't seen all of them, but I'm guessing Drew Barrymore will win, just because it represents a breakout role for her (similar to Hallie Berry's DOROTHY DANDRIDGE performance some years ago), and Emmys have traditionally recognized those.
Then I watched the first half of GONE WITH THE WIND from the deluxe DVD edition from a few years ago. This is only the second time I've watched the transfer from that set, and the first time on my current equipment. Looked very nice (might have wanted slightly more saturated Technicolor).
Next I watched the Danny Kaye vehicle A SONG IS BORN, the picture of his which I had never seen. He pretty much abandons the slapstick silliness and novelty songs in this movie, and the music is quite good. Of course, the love plot is typical 40s stuff (gun moll falls out of love with the gangster and in love with nebbish professor), and it's too long for such a simple story, but the music offers adequate compensations.
I started channel surfing right around 10 p.m. and happened on one of the local PBS stations the Jack Benny biographical special "Love in Bloom," so I watched that. And, finally, at long last, I got a recording of that marvelous, riotous "Getting to Know You" violin duet with Gieselle MacKenzie which I've been trying to catch for years. (It is shown under the closing credits.)
Vixdad was having a private chuckle to himself ove the lyrics when the Vixter whispered to him  that it sounded like a Blackadder parody song and he completely lost it - albeit silently  -- he was hugging himself and shaking and turning red and the tears were streaming down his face...
After the movie Taylor and Ben and I made a stop at Starbucks (for coffee for me) and Bresler's 33 Flavors (for ice cream for them).
Then one more stop at DOLLAR TREE where I gave both 2 dollars and they could choose anything that they wanted.
Taylor bought one  blue and one purple hair extension wig like think, and Benny bought a book and some sort of capsules that, when put into water, grow into foamy looking creatures.
I was aware of the news about June Kenney being found and that Paul Parla was interviewing her. He had wanted to keep it a secret so I didn't want to mention it until it was ok...which, evidently is now! LOL!
Paul, who has been interviewing B movie celebs since the 1980s took the time to look me up a few weeks back to let me know he had found June. He somehow discovered that she was my favorite and wanted to let me know. I was thrilled!
As a matter of fact I just today received an autographed photo of her which Paul had her sign for me!
I have been busily copying DVDs of her movies and TV shows for her to view, as she had none, and had not even seen many of them even when they originally aired/were releasesd.
Once Paul has finished his interview he is going to put me through to her and I can't wait! It will be the culmination of a live-long dream to actually get to chat with her!!!!
Color me very happy!
PS: Jack, sorry I didn't mention any of this to you prior, I just didn't want to break my word to Paul
By the way, I met Patrick Labyorteaux when I had my first lunch meeting with Miss Laurie Mitchell and Miss Diana Darrin in Studio City at Marie Callendars.
We were all awaiting the arrival of BK, who was going to join us for lunch, but who never did show up and out of the bathroom watched Mr. Labyorteaux. My buddy Ron, who was with us, noticed him first. He was kind enough to chat with us and Laurie (who didn't have a clue who he was) had her photo taken with him. I think Diana Darrin was familiar with him as her son Evan had appeared on LITTLE HOUSE ON THE PRAIRIE a couple of times.
Good evening
Work has continued to be hectic -  Monday I actually worked 16 1/2 hours... my shortest day all week was 10 1/2 hours...
That's because I "left early" to go see my vascular surgeon... I received approval to have my chemo port removed my my chest
HURRAH!
Great news!!  Congratulations!! ;D
Next I watched the Danny Kaye vehicle A SONG IS BORN, the picture of his which I had never seen. He pretty much abandons the slapstick silliness and novelty songs in this movie, and the music is quite good. Of course, the love plot is typical 40s stuff (gun moll falls out of love with the gangster and in love with nebbish professor), and it's too long for such a simple story, but the music offers adequate compensations.
Of course, A Song Is Born is a musical remake of the classic film, Ball Of Fire, written by Billy Wilder.
I was aware of the news about June Kenney being found and that Paul Parla was interviewing her. He had wanted to keep it a secret so I didn't want to mention it until it was ok...which, evidently is now! LOL!
Paul, who has been interviewing B movie celebs since the 1980s took the time to look me up a few weeks back to let me know he had found June. He somehow discovered that she was my favorite and wanted to let me know. I was thrilled!
As a matter of fact I just today received an autographed photo of her which Paul had her sign for me!
I have been busily copying DVDs of her movies and TV shows for her to view, as she had none, and had not even seen many of them even when they originally aired/were released.
Once Paul has finished his interview he is going to put me through to her and I can't wait! It will be the culmination of a live-long dream to actually get to chat with her!!!!
Color me very happy!
PS: Jack, sorry I didn't mention any of this to you prior, I just didn't want to break my word to Paul
Congrats to you, Michael!
We had our first sold out house tonight, including Betsy and the boys.  I was showing them around the sets (which are huge by any standard) and Jay Pevney, our Max, was out there setting props, and pointed to a lovely vintage photo on Max's office wall and said, "That's a picture of my mom from the cover of Life."  Now I knew his dad was famed director Joseph Pevney and kind of knew his Mom had done some acting, but I had no idea who she was.  It turns out she was Mitzi Green, child star at Paramount and RKO and (and this is the Life magazine cover) the woman who introduced "The Lady is a Tramp" in Babes in Arms on Broadway.  Jay told a charming story about Rodgers and Hart writing the song for her because his Grandmother, who was herself a famous vaudevillian, complained that Mitzi had no belting songs and that the show was full of ballads.  (But what ballads, eh?).  So color me impressed.
And now, I need to try and get some sleep.  I have no idea if I'll be able to sleep, but I need to get to bed early.
Good night, all.
