I watched the first season of LOST, then got bored with it 4-5 episodes into Season 2 and stopped watching.

That's the problem with these series that have one overall continuing premise.  They are impossible to sustain.  With 22 episodes per season, you have to keep adding story tangents that take you away from the main plot.  Eventually, everything gets so complicated that you lose track of what's going on in the basic story.

Some of these series that were cancelled the first year, but allowed to complete their basic storyline (e.g. KIDNAPPED, THE BLACK DONNELLEYS) are among my favorites...if for no other reason that they had a beginning, a middle and an end.

Good morning!

It was very cool this morning (62), and I enjoyed sitting on the side porch and enjoying the coolness for a little bit. We never did get any rain, and it is very dry here. One good thing: no rain means my grass is not growing and I don't have to mow it.

DR Michael Shayne is correct abouot Jack Bender. You might as well bail right now bk because he directs many of the season one and two episodes.

As for DR Druxy's comments, LOST is one show that has NEVER bored me. Confused at times and perplexed and astonished and delighted and scared and amazed but never bored. I will certainly agree that it gets more and more complex (that's the main reason its total audience has not sustained over its five seasons), but that has been the great thing about the squeegee recaps on ABC and the DVD/Blu-ray box sets. Repeated viewing of these episodes has cleared away many of the conundrums generated by the first two or three seasons. What mysteries remain should be cleared up in the final season which begins early in 2010.

But the show for me remains a brilliantly entertaining and utterly unique dramatic series.

I've already decided to stick with the first season of Lost and figured Mr. Bender would be along for the ride.  Did J.J. Abrams at least stay with this series for a while?  That's what happened on Alias - he left after season two, I think, and that show, despite an occasional good episode, really went to hell.

Good Morning! Good Afternoon!

I'm up, I'm up... And, actually, I've been up for a while, if not out of bed.  It was another "NPR Morning" for me: "Weekend Edition - Sunday", "Studio 360", then "Wait, Wait Don't Tell Me!"...  And now "La Sonnambula" on WNET...

Who knew that Public Radio and PBS could be such a time-suck? ;)

Regardless of whether you choose an iPod or another portable music player, it's the headphones/ear-buds that seem to make or break the whole "experience". Sadly, the default ones for the iPod kind of suck.  If you're serious about your listening, then just know that you'll probably want to invest in a good set of headphones or earbuds.  In any case...

iPods can play MP3s, but not all MP3 players can play iTunes compatible files...

Well... On second thought, here's CNET's MP3 Player Buying Guide (http://reviews.cnet.com/mp3-player-buying-guide/?tag=rb_mtx;contentNav).

No, he didn't really stay with the series, but the show was always a collaboration between him and Damon Lindelof, and Damon and Carlton Cuse have been the mainstays of the show throughout, so there is a consistency of storytelling, a through-line that ALIAS simply did not have.

In its fifth season, the show is now more sci-fi than some might like, but the storytelling with these characters is as riveting as ever for me and millions of others.

I watched THE FASHION SHOW while I ate, and I was very pleased with the three finalists. I did think their collections were the three best. I was a bit surprised by the one who was voted off, not with the vote but with the collection which I found disappointing. Flashy, yes, but not appealing and very costumey.

I know who I want to win, but it's close. I certainly saw merit in all the designs.

Then I watched the second half of GONE WITH THE WIND, and very typically I was awash in tears by the end of it. What with Scarlett's miscarriage, Bonnie's accident, and Melanie's death happening bing-bing-bing right near the end of the movie, it's a great deal of emotion crammed into a half hour.

This just in:  singing in a chorus is good for you and good for your community as well (http://www.chorusamerica.org/about_choralsinging.cfm).

Quote
Singing in one of the 270,000 choruses in the U.S., such as a community chorus or a school or church choir, is strongly correlated with qualities that are associated with success throughout life, the study finds. Greater civic involvement, discipline, and teamwork are just a few of the attributes fostered by singing with a choral ensemble.

Nothing conclusive, DR Laura, but we're keeping the cell phones close and staying on Facebook - his daughters are good about updates.  I suspect we're not hearing much now, because it's one of the ICU visiting periods and they're in his room.

The Walter Cronkite tribute on CBS was very nice. I'm glad I watched it

I was just going to ask if anyone knows how long it is.  Our DVR doesn't have a listing for the special so I set the regularly scheduled show to record from 6:00 to 7:00.  The CBS website only has the special from 7:00 to 8:00.  I can't seem to find shows beginning at 6:00 on their site.

Yesterday the pair of cardinals that live near my house were all in a tizzy. They are noisy birds when they are upset.  I finally went out to see what the problem was and my neighbor's cat was hiding in the flowers.. So I chased her home.  Then I had to do that 3 more times.   I think the cardinals must have little ones.  They are quiet today. I chased the cat home once more today.  She is wearing a bell, and I haven't noticed any of the regular birds missing, so I'm assuming it's all ok

she leaves at 4:15 AM on Wednesday...The next few days are going to be very hectic

I have pre-operative testing Tuesday morning at the hospital and then on Wednesday morning I have to see my GP so I can get the Okey dokey there for the operation on Friday

work continues to be busy so somehow I have to try and keep up withthat so I do not leave a big pile of issues for anyone else to deal with  while I have a nice relaxing operation on Friday

I mentioned it the other day: Keira Knightley. No, it's not as complete or as "Austen" as the Jennifer Ehle/Colin Firth version, but you can get the basic story in two hours rather than the miniseries version so I generally watch it when I want to see P&P.

If I have the day off, I'll likely watch another Lex Barker/Tarzan picture from the Warner Archives. I have to keep most of the evening free for TORCHWOOD. (I wish our cable company carried BBC AMerica-HD. Sadly, we only get the standard BBC America.)

I just like to sit and watch Colin Firth ;)

And he's the main reason I preferred the movie "Valmont" over "Dangerous Liaisons".

I ended my evening watching that John Barrowman special "The Making of Me" in which he tries to find out why he's gay. Pretty interesting stuff, and I love that he speaks in a Scottish brogue with his parents but not otherwise.

I saw (and recorded and made a DVD of) this, also.  I saw an interview with John where he said that his partner isn't used to his Scottish accent, so he doesn't use it around him.

Well, since when has the flu stopped anyone from posting?  We've had a lot worse than the flu around these here parts, and yet people come, people post, people tell us how they're doing, dead bunnies notwithstanding or notwithsitting.

Depends how sick one is.

I think a Temp of 102 degrees counts.

Good grief, I'm still awake and playing on the computer.   Adam and SunDee are now living in Viroqua, WI so I'm working on planning a trip there this fall.  I've always wanted to see Taliesin and it's only an hour from there, so I'm hoping to make it all work out.   It will be a very long drive each way, but it would be a fun trip and much cheaper than a theater trip to NYC

Hopefully, tomorrow will just be the two or three hours with Kevin and Linda, then I can relax a bit and just proof the book.  The liner notes and inlay card for our new title are going in for approval today.

All the kittens are sleeping, except for Antonia. She just zipped by like a tumbleweed in a dust storm.
