Well, you've read the notes, the notes were very Friday-like, and now it is time for you to post until the Friday cows come home.

Read

Peter Filichia (http://www.theatermania.com/peterfilichia/)

today for a mention of someone named Skip Kennon who's writing a new musical for 59E59.

Hmm, Skip Kennon, that name sounds familiar  ;)

Good morning/Night!!   No sleep for the weary,

TOD:

Movies-- Kissing Jessica Stein (worth it alone for Tovah Feldshuh's performance- one Oscar worthy moment especially)
Reaching for the Moon (worth it for the sets and Edward Everett Horton-- but a weak movie and weak work by Irving Berlin -- I think he phoned it in as he sometimes did)
Dark Passage

Music-- The Andrews Sisters singing "Hollywood Canteen"
Elmore's arrangement of "Imagining You" for the NYGMC
Theme from "Picnic/Moonglow
Dames at Sea
Score to "Casablanca"
Sylvia singing  her composition of "Pillow Talk"-- great backing to it
"College Education"-- thanks to the dazzling and kind edisaurus
"Show Girl"
Matt Alber's "Field Trip" and "End of the World"
Somebody's version (I forget her name) of "Something to Live For"
"Wells Fargo Wagon"
Bobbie Gentry's "Billy the Kid"

There you have it so far-- but it's early so far

I'm not listening to anything right now.

We are going to a friend's for dinner (we did laundry yesterday afternoon) this evening so there will be no watching of video or television or DVDs.

Saturday we head to New Jersey for Anthony's Aunt's 75th Surprise Birthday Party (her birthday is today).

Sunday who knows.

That's our schedule for now and I'm sticking to it.

TOD:

DVD - The Lucy Show The First Season.  The interview with Jimmy Garrett and the interview with Lucie Arnaz were both quite interesting, if not exactly in depth.
Watched the first episode which was pretty funny.  My favorite episodes will be coming up later in the season....Lucy & Viv Join the Fire Department and Lucy & Viv Install a Shower.  The disks are a bit difficult to navigate, but I will get the hang of it.  The colors make it hard to tell which button is "active."

CD - Man of La Mancha revival cast CD

I've been watching one episode a night and I'm enjoying it a lot ("Lucy Waits Up For Chris" has been my favorite so far.)  I recall that when I was a youngen and this show was in daily early morning reruns that I had a crush on Lucy's daughter Chris.  Now I'm surprised to see how young the daughter was and that she was not such a great actress.  I also think it's funny how much Dick Martin's next door neighbor character is referred to in the first episode but doesn't actually appear.

DR JRand, are you clicking on the Set-Up button for each episode so that you can see the original openings and embedded commercials?

That reminds me--I need to add to my shopping list:  Vim laundry tablets and Jell-O pudding.

I'm going out tonight to see the first locally produced version of THE PRODUCERS. Several people I've worked with are in the cast, so I'm interested to see what they do with the material having seen the original cast on Broadway. However, the running time is 3 hours which is not something that seems especially appealing.

Good morning, all! Today, the lower back pain I had before the leg/nervous problem has returned.

I saw my doctor yesterday and she says the x-rays show some arthritis, but I say this is not arthritis! She did give me a referral to a Dr Simon, who I gather specualizes in sports injuries, and I see him next Wednesday. I'm going to make a run down to my pharmacy for more vicodin and muscle relaxant. Whle I'm waiting for the last dose to kick in, I've begun catching up on posts from the last week.

Ironically, on THE DOCTORS this morning, their last "stay healthy" advice was in praise of friends, and I drink to that! All I can ask you is to keep them vibes coming, not only for me, but for our DR Jose, Ron and Dona Raines, and for yourselves. The cosmic energy you send out for others needs some payback.

Travel update

I am in Montreal, but just barely.

1) The plane left Florida forty minutes late.
This was not good as I only had 60 minutes to get the next flight and I had switch terminals. Landed in terminal C leaving from F.
I did receive text messages from Orbitz (I booked from them) that the plane was goign to be late.

2) Upon landing got another text message that my 5:30 flight to Montreal was cancelled. By the arrived at the gate there was only 10 minutes to get there and I would have missed it anyways.

3) Went to customer service. Loooooong line. I wasn't the only one. They tried to book me on another flight. No luck. Wait there was Burlington Vermont via Washington D.C. Gee I could be stuck in the Nation's capital instead of Philadelphia. And Burlington is only 2 hours from Montreal. No go.

4) They booked me on the 7:30am flight the next day. I asked where am I supposed to stay until then? They do not pay for a hotel. They do have a reduce voucher for the Days Inn. They gave me that.

5) I asked if there was anything else. There was a 7:30pm flight but there was a stand by list. I said I will do that. I was #21 on the list. The plane holds 50 people.

6) When I got to the gate the plane was now delayed 60 minutes leaving at 8:30. Good news The standby list was now 13 people. Band news. I was #13.

7) Plane now delayed to 10:30. I was getting worried. Montreal had a curfew (Later found out that this was no longer the case)

8) Good News By the above time 47 out of 50 people had signed in. Bad News I was #4.

9) They boarded the plane. Bad news 1 seat available. Good news. two people who signed in are not at the gate.

10) I get the last seat available.

11) Good news: The plane leaves the gate. Bad news another 45 minutes on the tarmac until we take off.

12) I arrive in Montreal. The taxi ride that used to be a flat $30 plus tip is now $38.00 Just have enough money.

13) I arrive home over 6 hours late. I was hungry. Had a sandwich and then went to bed.

Conclusion: I will pay the extra money to get a direct flight and drive the one hour to the airport (if needed. Hopefully the closer airport will have a direct flight I can use) to accomplish that.

PS I chose Phillie because I thought that chances of bad weather delays would be less. Boy was I wrong!!

Since I knew I wouldn't be home for much of the evening tonight, I started on the bonus features for SLING BLADE this morning. Started is an appropriate word since I only got the first one watched - "Billy Bob Goes to Hollywood," a 67-minute biography of his struggles to break into the movie business.

I looked ahead at the other bonus features but didn't watch them yet. The next is a Bravo profile of Billy Bob that's about 45 minutes. Then there's a roundtable discussion with Billy Bob and several other key people from SLING BLADE - over an hour running time. And there are more interviews and music videos that look to total another hour at least.

So, it's quite clear I won't be finishing this disc today. The film itself is 2 1/4 hours, and there's a commentary, too, so it will take today and part of tomorrow to get everything finished, I think.

Good Morning!

I'm up, I'm up... And I've been up for a while.  Sorta.

I was supposed to be up and out of the apartment by now, but then I got a call around 8:30 saying that the person I was supposed to meet at 10:00 was dealing with no electricity in his office.  So I went back to bed and grabbed a few more winks, and I'm just waiting for the call to go ahead and head on down. In the meantime...

I'll check if i remember.

Btw, was anyone surprsied by who went home?

I still say that the choreography helped a couple people out a lot.

One thing that bugged me re: the girl that went home. Nigel said she was his favorite and that he was hoping she'd win. Well i know sometimes viewers backlash against that. But if she was nigel's favorite maybe he could have given the viewers some indication of that. I personally never felt that she was even one of his favorites.

I'm curious is that thing DR TCB posted about GHOST WHISPERER 100% for sure? When i read about it a while ago i didn't think it was for sure. Maybe now it is?

My first reaction I think is similar to most fans - not thrilled about it. I love watching melinda pregnant and would like to see how that progresses and what happens now with her and "jim". I guess maybe they will do flashbacks. And just want us to be able to see the kid do stuff. I wonder who they will cast as the kid?

I bought the MGM (U.A. titles) box from FSM....and have both "The Fortune Cookie" and "The Apartment."  My dilemma is having a hole in my Kritzerland collection....sort of like what happened when I didn't buy FSM's re-do of "The Omega Man."

So many titles coming at me from all directions...and wanting them all...and having to make big choices when it comes to re-dos in different collections.

Sigh.

I keep meaning to ask you: When you were at CMU, was there a girl named, Laura, in your class? or "near" your class? Tallish, blond. I came across some high school programs the other day, and remembered that Laura had gone onto CMU after high school, and I believe she was a music theatre major.

I'm almost certain that I know who you mean. . .
But I could be thinking of Alison Metcalfe. . .

I was at CMU as an employee, not as a student, but I did get to know most of the theater students, musical or not. . .

Last Saturday night, I woke up to find my bed a shambles, and I asked ron Raines to come over and remake my bed. He did that on sunday afternoon while Dona and Charlotte were seeing SHREK. Then, on Sunday night, I woke around 2 am after dreaming I was wrestling with heavy fabric to find I'd torn the bed apart and thrown everything on the floor. When I told Ron on Monday what I'd done, he said that he'd had really bad dreams when he was on vicodin after his last surgery and I guess the vicodin was affecting me.  I haven't torn the bed apart since.

I've spoken to Jose who's coming over later, and my friend Daniel called and asked me what I want him to bring me for dinner, so I guess I have company for dinner tonight. Maybe Mexican?

I'm ready for a nap.

The flowers that arrived yesterday morning were from John McGlinn's sisiter Lorin, and they're quite lovely. DR Jose unpacked them for me yesterday afternoon.

Off to the pharmacy.

Glad to see you posting Larry!  Comfort vibes!

Thanks, DR Kerry. In fact, I'm all caught up on the posts now. Thank you, everybody! Keep 'em coming!

The muscle relaxer and the vicodin make me sleepy as well, so I think it's time for a nap.

DR Elmore, vicodin can also have a very uncomfortable GI side effect, so be sure to eat plenty of fruits and vegetables and drink plenty of water and juice.  I ended up in the ER several years ago having this particular side effect dealt with - not pleasant!

It's really too bad you don't have the same side effects on Vicodin that I have had.   I can just be sitting there in the comfort of a Vicoden haze and suddenly find I've thoroughly cleaned the refrigerator or stove, or have vacuumed or cleaned out a closet.  Vicodin turns me into a cleaning machine.

I watched last night's BURN NOTICE while I ate lunch. That adorable Jay Harrington (presently the star of BETTER OFF TED) was the primary guest star, and he was just wonderful. I really loved the episode (the ending might have been a bit too pat for the show), and now will watch what Michael does with his "mercenary" job for Ben Shenkman's character

Then I picked back up with my work project for the day: the Blu-ray of SLING BLADE. Just as funny, tender, and moving as it was the first time I saw it. (For some reason, I had it in my head that the climactic killing was bloody and grisly, but it wasn't at all. That was a big surprise.)

Then I started watching more of the bonus features. I started with the 43-minute Bravo profile which showed him as a good ol' boy still true to his roots. He had married Angelina Jolie by this time (it was a 2000 interview) , so she's interviewed, too.

Since that roundtable discussion of the film lasted over an hour, and I knew I couldn't get it finished this afternoon, I skipped it for the time being and went on the the next two items: conversations with Billy Bob and Robert Duvall and then a conversation with Robert Duvall alone about his working relationship and personal friendship with Billy Bob.

OK little interviews but nothing of really great interest.

Hi td, it's Thursday not Tuesday, that we're seeing the show.  Julie (the E&T Julie of HHW) and I are getting to Pittsburgh about 5, should be at the center of town by 6.  Assuming all is on schedule, we'll have dinner with Ann (and we, hope, you) around 6:30 and be in our seats at the CLO by 8. Then we're flying back to NY on Friday morning.  A whirlwind visit.

Are you free for a quick dinner near the CLO on Thursday?  Or else dessert or even just a drink after the show? (10:30-ish, I'd imagine)

Ron, I don't really want to say this on the FSM board, but this version, if you love the music, sounds much better - the FSM, for whatever reasons, was not well mastered, in my opinion.  Plus, you get the album art and a nice single CD release.  It depends on how much you like the music, I think.  The next Kritzerland release, which will pair one title from the box set with a never before released soundtrack, is going back to the master tapes for the box set score, because, for me, it sounds like junk - on the verge of distortion the entire time (and occasionally going over the edge) - my mastering guy thinks its because they pushed their EQ way too loud, which resulted in the distortion.  And I won't put out anything that sounds like that, when there's a good master tape.

The "discussion" on the FSM board is really interesting - most are thrilled we've done this, but there are two very vocal people who aren't.  I've been nothing but forthcoming (realize I don't really owe anyone any explanations about anything), answering questions, explaining motivations and reality, and one of these two guys just made a nasty post about my "defensive posturing" - I asked him to please provide one example of such posturing - he won't be able to, and I told him to apologize because his post was completely offensive and ridiculous.  We'll see if he's man enough to do it.  If not, I will be merciless, oh, yes, I will be merciless.

Done.   I really can't believe all the whining at FSM...especially from one person whose name I won't mention (his initials are Eric Paddon, though).

Such a tortured soul bent on bringing misery with him wherever he spits.   Since he's taken such a high ground, on moral grounds, no less, I've challenged him to comment as to whether this meant that, because of his stance, he would no longer be posting at FSM's Messageboard.

I know the answer is NO....he is lots of bluster, hot air and word-spin.  I think it's interesting that he has decided to avoid criticizing you, Bruce...saving all his bitter invective for FSM based on Kendall's verbiage about the unlikelihood of those 20 titles ever being released as single CDs.

Space channel in Canada will show part 5 of Torchwood tonight.

Not sure if I should watch or not
             1) I have not seen the previous 4 parts
             2) Tried to watch season 1 and could not get into the series.

Airs tonight at 10pm

and tomorrow one of the special Doctor Who episodes which features David Tennant in one of his final performances as the Doc.  (9pm)

I am really going miss Tennant. He was in my opinion the finest doctor. He gave amazing performances and the writing for his tenure for the most part have been best of the series.

It seems to be a cross between XFiles, Friday The 13th: The TV Series, Lost, &  The warehouse from the end of Raiders of the Lost Ark.

As for characters the male and female leads are direct out of X Files. I have not seen either actor before. I do not care for the actress and the actor has a quirky style I like.

I thought Saul Rubinek the man who heads the warehouse was amusing at first but soon grew tiresome

CCH Pounder has a small role but looks like will be a regular. Her character does not age like some of the characters from later seasons of LOST

"Warehouse 13" reminds me a bit of the "Librarian" series with Noah Wylie.

From the English murder mystery I'm currently reading:

"What do they mean, peculiarities?"
"Oh, you know.  Wearing a tutu or a mink G-string at evensong.  That sort of thing."

Are you one of the characters in the book?

The lead, Eddie McClintock, appeared as a love interest for Temperance on Bones 2 seasons ago.

Not familiar with that series.

But I am not impressed with W13 and will not watch any more. I don't even know what network it is on.

Do not/did not watch Bones. If the concept doesn't go beyond what was shown in the pilot I can't see it getting anymore interesting.

I remember your cleaning frenzy when you broke your arm/shoulder (?).  I was shocked you could clean the kitty litter in that condition.

I would be happy to deal with either side effect, I just sit on the bathroom floor in front of the toilet for 4 hours. :(

I think I would prefer a week of all Saturdays.

Loved Eddie on BONES and was sorry when his character was written off the show. (He was never intended to be a regular.)

But I had no interest in WAREHOUSE 13 after reading about its premise.

I was racing like mad to try to finish all of the SLING BLADE bonus features before we left for the theater, but John was 10 minutes early (a rarety for him), so I didn't get through. I'll have to finish them tomorrow morning and post the review then. I only have the commentary and one 4 minute featurette left.

The local production of THE PRODUCERS which I saw tonight was a HUGE production. I was very impressed with the momumental physical production of this enterprise. Very daunting in every respect, and most of it was pulled off very well.

But they had a rather anemic Max, sad to say. He wasn't untalented, but he just wasn't BIG enough (not in size; in presence and demeanor). Leo far, far dominated in their scenes and songs together, and that simply cannot be.

Roger was merely OK though he did pull off his part of "Springtime for Hitler" well. But Franz and Carmen were both superb, every bit the singing and acting equals of their Broadway originators (I mean that; I was THAT impressed with them). Ula was everything she needed to be in terms of singing and physical prowess (though her accent slipped a bit from time to time).

Saw lots of people in the audience from when  I used to do shows regularly, and it was grand to be back in touch with them however fleeting. It's funny how one's priorities change over the course of years.

It must have been a Mel Brooks kind of night, for after watching the dvd of FLASH GORDON, I put in the production of THE PRODUCERS which starred Hunter Foster for a few songs then the film of THE PRODUCERS to watch Captain Jack Harkness sing "Springtime for Hitler."
