I took a few photos, but for some reason, my video won't upload on Facebook.

Morning all.

We are off this morning to Anthony's cousin's house in Hamilton (IIRC), NY. We will take the Metro North train to Poughkeepsie. There we will be met by said cousins and will move on to the house. We will be there today and part of tomorrow. We will return sometime late Sunday afternoon. I doubt I'll be around much today so have a good one, if you are so inclined.

Bye for now.

Good morning, all!

I am on my own today; Ron Raines is in Huston, Matthew Kiernan is in the Berkshires, DR Jose is in Richmond, and DR Ben is on Long Island, so I will have to manage on my own today. Luckily, things are improving, and in about 30 minutes, when the pain pills kick in, I will make a trip to the bakery up the street and the Duane Reade drug store across from it.

My freind Gion of the Miami University theatre faculty is stopping by for tea around 10:30, and I want to have a few muffins to offer him. I'll survive the trek. For the rest of the day, I have some work on OH BOY! and LIFE BEGINS AT 8:40.

Last night I watched the Opera Australia production of DIE FLEDERMAUS with Joan Sutherland, and I really enjoyed it. She's not so good in THE MERRY WIDOW but I found her very funny in this. The production is quite lavsh, nicely staged, and very well performed.

I think tonight I'll watch IM WEISSEN ROSSL again.

DR FJL, I am happy you and the lovely Julie are back safely from Pittsburgh! I'm even happier that you had a good time.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Healthy Vibes to DRs Michael S and vixmom, positive vibes to DR Ginny and Richard, and Happy Weekend Vibes to everyone! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I never posted this during the past week but the gentleman who is part of the older couple I've mentioned in previous posts passed away this week. Anthony has been friends with the woman, Elinor, for over 30 years (she's 86). She married George (He was 81 and they lived in a retirement village on Long Island) seven years ago. George was diagnosed with cancer of the esophagus (sp) about a year and half ago. After a long battle he died on Wednesday. Anthony has been helping Elinor for the past few months (he is her health care proxy, etc) and he went out to Long Island on Tuesday. The wake was Thursday and the funeral was yesterday. He now needs a break from all the emotional turmoil. Elinor told him to go away for a few days and relax which is why we're going up to Sue and Michael's for the rest of the weekend (Anthony got back in the city last night about 9pm).
That's the news from Chelsea.
Good vibes to all our dear friends, especially Larry!!!
I don't believe I've mentioned this, but then again my participation only became official last night:  I am performing in a reading today (and several future readings) of my dear friend Coni's play CANDLEDANCING.  I did this role many moons ago when the script was still in the gestation period, now, the script is published (!), available at Amazon (!) and readings throughout Pittsburgh and NYC are in order. . .
I am quite proud of myself. I managed to walk two blocks to the drug store, up and down a flight of stairs there, and cross the street to the Corner Bakery without the aid of crutches. I took one along in case. After the bakery, I headed home. walked a block, and hailed a taxi for the last one. This is a very good sign: on July 14, I couldn't walk at all! I doubt that my perambulations for the rest of the day will be inside my apartment. I've decided, too, that tomorrow I will attempt the laundry.
DR Ben, we have to set a date fro you and Anthony, if he'd like, to come over and watch THE BEGGAR'S OPERA. There is also another production of SHE STOOPS TO CONQUER that I want to purchase.
And the word of the day is: GALLIMAUFRY!
And The Song Of The Day Is: THE BEST YEARS OF HIS LIFE
Brilliant Lyric by Ira Gershwin in one of the dream sequences of LADY IN THE DARK
 He gave her the best years of his life
  She was,shall we call it,his mistress?
  'Twas only for her he's divorcing his wife
  And now the man's in distress.
  The master who once was the master of two
   Would make of his Mistress his Mrs.
   But he missed out on Mrs. for the Mistress is through--
   What a Mess of a MISH MASH this is
First and favorite - clam dip made from my mom's recipe.
Actually, I have a lot of appetizer recipes that I like - shrimp spread, Skyline chili dip, cheese ball, dried beef spread, dill dip for veggies.  Sometimes we'll have a whole meal of appetizers for a special TV occasion like the Super Bowl.
It wasn't particularly exotic, but one of the loveliest appetizers I remember was the crab dip that Richard and I shared at a sidewalk table at Buddy's Crabs & Ribs in Annapolis, MD, on a beautiful evening 10 years ago this coming Wednesday (verified in my travel journal).
Back from the long jog, which was long.  It's gonna be another hot day here in the City of Studio.  I must now leave, but before I do, here's a fun something to do today - and it will be very helpful to me:
In the Kevin and Linda show, we're doing You're The Top - first with a lot of the fun original lyrics, but then we're doing a section of what it would be like if Cole Porter had to write the lyric today - so, here's one possible line:
You're the top,
You're an iPod mini
So, come up with your version of today's You're The Top lyrics - so much to choose from - rhyming is the hard thing and no cheating in terms of scan - it must fit exactly and the emphasis on words can't be off.  Facebook, YouTube, hybrid cars, trendy foods, trendy people like Obama (rhymes with drama, so that should be easy), Martha Stewart, anything happening and now - restaurants, artists, singers, actors, writers, trinkets, gadgets, gamebox, Playstation 3, all of it.  To it and have FUN!
Even though I loved the first "Lost Horizon" and thought the idea of a musical would be interesting, I knew what was going to happen when I first heard that the makers of the movie had simply taken the Camelot castle and hung a moongate on it.  The movie looked and sounded dated when it was released.  Time has not been kind to the this remake except to move it from the realm of simply horrible to partly  horrible/partly camp.  I like some of the performers and some of the score, but still.....
TOD:  I love to share appetizers or have an appetizer and a side salad as a meal.
I usually do not have room to eat both an appetizer and an entree.
All-time favorite (and probably the first appetizer I can remember having)-- a shrimp cocktail
Last night's (shared) appetizer was a caramelized onion tart with goat cheese.  Quite yummy.
APPALOOSA comes on HBO-HD tonight, and I'm still deciding whether I want to watch it or not. I like the cast; I'll have to see how long it is. If it's an epic-length western, I'm not sure I'd have the patience for it.
Appaloosa is the only film I actually went to a movie theatre and paid money to see last year.  I loved it.  Also watched it on a plane.  It's standard length.
Took a drive up to Pulpfest in Columbus last night.  Hit some nice bookstores when I got in; hit the dealer rooms at the fest today.  It was fun and reminded me of the good old days of the LA bookfairs, with lots of interesting stuff.   Met Otto Penzler, mystery publishing-editing icon, got recognized a couple of times which was nice, but mostly was amazed at how much some ofthe stuff I've bought over the years has increased in price.
I saw the cast and I like them, and I saw the length which certainly seemed acceptable, so I did set the DVR to record it. I'll likely  watch it later tonight or some of it tomorrow. Thanks for the recommendation.
I REALLY cannot stand the show when he's taking it over.
Both cases were interesting, and I always enjoy seeing Lee Tergesen guest starring in any show. (Peter Jacobson is not such a welcome guest star. And is there something in his contracts that he always gets matched up with babes twenty years younger than he is?)
I watched another MURDER SHE WROTE episode. In this one Jessica appears on a famous chef's TV program (chef played by John Saxon) and he's later murdered. Good mystery with a surprise killer that I didn't guess.
Got a big ol' surprise from Time-Warner cable yesterday: they have added LOGO (the gay network) to our regular digital tier of channels. I couldn't have been more surprised.
When I was the Paramount reviewer, I got many of their series and specials to review since it's a subsidiary of Paramount. But since I've been transferred out of that spot, I wondererd if I'd get to see some of these programs on the network. Now, I'll be able to keep up with the programming on the channel that I'd be interested in. I'm so happy about that.
Back from the long jog, which was long.  It's gonna be another hot day here in the City of Studio.  I must now leave, but before I do, here's a fun something to do today - and it will be very helpful to me:
In the Kevin and Linda show, we're doing You're The Top - first with a lot of the fun original lyrics, but then we're doing a section of what it would be like if Cole Porter had to write the lyric today - so, here's one possible line:
You're the top,
You're an iPod mini
So, come up with your version of today's You're The Top lyrics - so much to choose from - rhyming is the hard thing and no cheating in terms of scan - it must fit exactly and the emphasis on words can't be off.  Facebook, YouTube, hybrid cars, trendy foods, trendy people like Obama (rhymes with drama, so that should be easy), Martha Stewart, anything happening and now - restaurants, artists, singers, actors, writers, trinkets, gadgets, gamebox, Playstation 3, all of it.  To it and have FUN!
This probably doesn't count as a "real" rhyme, but here's my contribution:
You're the top,
You're a mini iPod
You're the top,
Only dress in IZOD (http://www.izod.com/)
;)
I've been very ambitious today, and I hope it will not not cause me a bad day tomorrow. I just finished the laundry and i'm all caught up on my proofreading for Life Begins At 8:40.
DR Matt H, Peter Jacobson lives somewhere near me.  I see him occasionally at Artie's. He plays obnoxious folk very well, but he seems pleasant enough whenever I run across him.
I also spoke to my beautiful goddaughter Charlotte. We've made a tentative date to see the new Harry Potter film on Wednesday night.
Well, my (very anal retentive) concern is that true rhymes are supposed to be rhymed on the accented syllable and EYE (of ipod or IZOD) is the accented syllable.  It really should be something like "my pod" to officially rhyme with "ipod."
You’re the tops
You’re sparkling sweet
You’re the tops
You’re nice and kinky
You’re lush and sweet
You’re a deep-fried Twinkie
You’re the tops,
I like the movie clips,
With kids in Cinerama
You’re the tops
You’re the Princess Di
You’re the dessert
You’re a key lime pie
You’re the tops
You rhyme like Adoph Comden
You’re the tops
Like a hit of OxyContin
You’re the tops
You’re a queen in drag
You’re the tops,
With your Prada bag
I started my evening with two MURDER SHE WROTE episodes.
The first had Jessica and her newest millionaire friend Loretta Swit handling a murder.
Let's talk a minute about what Loretta Swit has done to HER face: as horrifying and as modifying as the jobs done to Cher, Lisa Renna, Carol Burnett, and others. Grotesque.
Next came the next Lex Barker Tarzan in the order he made them: TARZAN'S PERIL. Featured in this is his third different actress playing Jane (and the worst yet). I remembered this one well from my childhood because of the phrase that gets repeated over and over during the movie: "Radecek escape." Criminal mastermind Radecek is played by George Macready. And guess who plays the new queen of a jungle tribe? Dorothy Dandridge!
And then I watched APPALOOSA. I did enjoy it. Renee Zellweger plays a pretty dislikable character, but the male bonding between Ed Harris and Viggo Mortensen is beautiful to see. I LOVED their easy relationship with each other. And Viggo's explanation to Renee that they were both with Harris and that's why nothing would ever develop between them was a touch of genius. First time I've ever heard it put that way in a western, especially with a straight man talking about his love/friendship/faithfulness for another straight man. Really terrific and unique explanation.
Thanks for the vibes Elmoore
But today was not a good day.
I had a very difficult time sleeping last night. Tried without the collar, but I needed it. I eventually fell asleep and when I woke I was in more pain as if the adjustment didn't work. Luckily my doctor works on Saturdays and I went to see. Then I came home and had a light lunch. I tried to do some work on the play, but I was just too tired and I lay down and slept for several hours.
I woke and decided to fulfill by obligations for the evening. I made short stays at each place. It was hot and it made the collar uncomfortable. Came home and did some work on the pay and now I'm ready to go to bed.
I hope everyone else's day was better.
Then I headed on over to Dogwood Dell to catch a presentation of A Funny Thing Happened On the Way to the Forum.  It was nice being back at the Dell again, although, the last time I was there, I was actually conducting Jekyll & Hyde.  I ran into some old friends, and even some of my former neighbors.  It was great seeing them again, and they brought back some wonderful memories of one of my former landlords, Mrs. Lane.  What a true Lady.  Sadly, she passed away two years ago, but she lived a very full and sprightly 105 years!
And the weather could not have been nice for a show in the great outdoors tonight.  Not too warm, and there was a nice breeze blowing throughout the evening.  Best of all, no bug bites!
In other news...
I need to start getting my stuff together since I'll be heading back up to NYC in a couple of hours.  -Yes, this was a very quick trip, but I'm glad I was able to fit it in - even with the almost nine-hour bus trip yesterday.  And I even got to see my niece, Alexandra, too since my brother and her came down to Richmond earlier this evening too!
Goodnight.
