Title: LORD LOVE A DUCK
Post by: bk on August 06, 2009, 12:14:57 AM
Well, you've read the notes, the notes were ducky, and now it is time for you to post until the ducky cows come home.  I wonder if you have ducky cows if you can then have cowky ducks?

Good news, George.  Are you reading for a specific role or the ensemble (who get to play many roles).  And just tell the director that if you're cast, the writers will come up to see you!

Thanks, BK!  In all the shows that I've done with Theater Artists Olympia (TAO), I've had relatively few lines...and I've really enjoyed that.  But in this show (if I'm cast), I would like a more substantial role.  I know I'm not right for Fred and more than likely not Zubrick, either (I wouldn't turn them down, though).  But I think that I could be the Narrator or The Brain him-(it?)-self. ;) I've only been a title character once (Charlie Brown in You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown in 2002), so maybe it's time for another show-titled role.  I hope that Josh (the director/music director) can see me in one of those roles, also. :D

Good mornng, all!

Thank you, all, for the good wishes. I will really need them today, since this is my first day truly away from the apartment: the barber at 10:30, a holiday album meeting at noon, and then a jaunt to Toyland before I either hail a taxi or try the subway for a trip back home. I'm taking the pain meds with me, but I am making a serious effort to break away from them.

I have little news besides that at the moment.

My work project today is STARGATE: ATLANTIS: Fans' Favorites on Blu-ray. I've never seen the series, but the program is made up of the 88-minute pilot episode and the 46-minute series finale. I have never watched the show, but I'm assuming since I will see the pilot, I will get proper introduction to the characters and be easily able to follow along.

There don't appear to be any bonus features listed on the case, but there may be some once I start watching the disc.

Happy Birthday to DR td!

Thanks to all for the dry vibes.  The water did come within about 3 feet of my house, but then receded - sort of like my hair - and finally went down the storm drain.  After the street dept showed up and removed the debris from the drain.  And threw it in my front yard.

I also have two new garbage cans, a white bucket, and a Big Wheel.

At last rehearsal last night, the cast gave me an autographed poster from the years ago Robert Goulet tour of MAN OF LA MANCHA.  I bought a frame for it and will put it in the lobby!

Tonight is opening night.....I sell tickets at 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. - so hopefully the boys won't go too crazy with the makeup until I can get back there to supervise.  My nightmare once again is that I will have at two muleteers who look like Carol Channing.

And it's not even her birthday.

But we don't get Turner (we don't even have cable anymore) and Anthony has seen every single Garland movie more than once anyway.

Speaking of which, we are heading over to Chelsea Cinemas this evening to catch a viewing of

I've had a long day out and now I'm safely home. I took the bus down to 50th Street and transferred to the crosstown bus to get to Radio City for my barber, then I took a bus down Fifth Avenue to Union Square and walked to Chris Denny's apartment, where I heard the songs for Brent's Christmas album. I think it's going to be good. Then I taxied up to 27th Street and went to Toyland where everyone was working on Life Begins At 8:40; the reading is now scheduled for Sept 1, but if the Library of congress doesn't start honoring our contract and paying us within six weeks of invoice date, there won't be a reading since I won't release the music. It's ridiculous for a government organization to be so screwed up.

After my visit to Toyland, I was considering a subway ride home but after walking to Seventh Avenue, I decided to taxi home. That's my day, and I'm rather proud of myself.

I only dislike him when he's miscast or is trying to do material beyond his ability. He was a horrible choice as the leading man for Doris Day in APRIL IN PARIS and his singing was very off pitch in that movie.

But in something like BABES IN TOYLAND or THE HARVEY GIRLS, he's just fine. And, of course, he's magical as the Scarecrow.

I watched both parts of my work project STARGATE: ATLANTIS. I don't think the show was ever regarded as a great piece of sci-fi, but the feature length pilot was reasonably entertaining. The second episode on the disc was the series finale. After five years, many of the core cast had already departed, and the show seemed to be borrowing sci-fi ideas from STAR TREK. I found that last episode pretty anticlimactic.

I've had a non-stop morning and afternoon, and still haven't picked up my mail - no packages, but a check, so that's good.  I had to pick up the CD ref for a potential upcoming project.  Then I found out that after our next release, the price of doing two scores on one or two CDs goes up another $1000, and that will probably preclude me from doing any more of those, as they're too expensive to begin with and the profit margin would simply shrink too low or be non-existent if it didn't sell.  Thankfully, I already had the contract for our next, so that stays at the old rate.  I wish I'd had them do contracts on three or four more.

Not me, I love Ray Bolger.  I spent a wonderful day with him back in the Seventies while he was filming a commercial in our local theater.  He was an absolute delight, and he was very kind and gracious to my young niece, who couldn't believe that she was meeting The Scarecrow.

Hughes died while taking a morning walk during a trip to Manhattan to visit family.

He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Nancy, two sons, John and James, and four grandchildren.

This is horrible. He's the same age as many of us! Very sad about that.

Indeed.  Shocking news.

Not a good day to be "in the business":

Producer Swanson Dies

6 August 2009 9:06 AM, PDT

Hollywood producer Ted Swanson has died from congestive heart failure, aged 72.

Swanson, who worked on a string of classic films including Rocky and Caddyshack, passed away on 23 July.

He enjoyed success on both radio and TV, as head of production with Los Angeles ' Knxt (Kcbs) and as a producer on 1960s sitcom The Waltons and The Tale of Sweeney Todd, starring Ben Kingsley .

Oh yes, I loved that 1960's sictcom THE WALTONS AND THE TALE OF SWEENEY TODD.  Especially John-Boy singing GREEN FINCH.

Thank you, DRs Jennifer, George, and DAW for the vibes for my BiL John.  Today's procedure went fine and he seems much more comfortable without tubes in his nose and mouth.  He's still not breathing on his own, but vitals are OK and conversations have begun about a transfer to a long-term critical care facility.

Would the copy time pick up after the initial copy was finished?

:) :) :)  YEAH!  :) :) :)

DR Jose, do you have any suggestions for home made ice cream/gelato/whatever that would be tasty but not too fattening?

Sorbets are non-fat since they're basically just frozen fruit purées.  However, some sorbet recipes call for egg whites - also fat-free - to add some "body" to them (as well as some protein too).

Actually, the easiest sorbet recipe I've come across:

-Buy a can of pears in syrup.
-Freeze the can.
-Take can out of freezer, open can, and serve.

Ice creams and ice milks can be easy and fat-free, but those types of recipes don't usually yield the tastiest results.  ;)

Check Epicurious (http://www.epicurious.com) and the Food Network site for some ideas and recipes.

The closet I have come to homemade would be my morning experiments with my protein shake

I use whole milk instead of skim and a scoop of the vanilla flavored spirutein whey

One day I added half a cup of blueberries and a scoop of vanilla ice cream

Another I added a bananna and a scoop of chocolate flavored instant breakfast

today I added 8 big strawberries

another day I added the bananna AND Strawberries...

this is what passes for cooking in my kitchen

You can make ice creams with 2% milk and skim milk... But then you usually add an egg yolk or two.  Or cornstarch. But if you use fruits like bananas and papayas, then those can help with the "mouth feel" of the finished product.

You can also make granitas in an ice cube tray. Pour some fruit juices into an ice cube tray. Freeze.  Then blend them until their slushy.

Ok, better get some sleep.  I'm really glad tomorrow is Friday.   This weekend I have to start emptying out all my cupboards in the kitchen.  Wednesday Night Chris is going to help me take the old countertops out and Thursday they new countertops will be here.   I can't wait to have them in but I'm not looking forward to doing all the prep.

I probably don't have to empty my upper cupboards, but I think I'm going to take out all the glass.  I can't help but thing that there will be vibration and pounding of some sort or another.  and if I'm wrong. It's a good time to clean out all the cupboards and maybe rearrange a few things.

Until later.

I think I need a brother like you!

Well... I'm hoping to grab an actual breakfast before I head to the movie in the morning, so...

Goodnight.

I watched a motion picture on Blu-Ray and am done with my viewing for the evening.  Happy news is that How To Murder Your Wife is down to less than 100 copies.
