Title: A THIRD OF MY DINING TABLE IS MISSING

Well, you've read the notes, the notes were not broken like the dining table, and now it is time for you to post until the broken cows come home.

Hi, Ben!

I'll be back in NY this week for more bloodletting...errr...editing but won't have any social time. Waaah....
If we finish early, I might be able to sneak in a show, so I may call and ask for your advice!

I am supposed to hear from the Car Man this morning.  He called last night and said he couldn't find anything wrong with my machine....but asked if he could look at it first thing this morning....and I said yes.  So we shall see.  Hopefully, he still won't be able to find anything wrong.  Time Will Tell.

Feeling better vibes to DR MISS KAREN.

Shocking table adventure for MR BK.

Our table failure story was slightly different.  My brother Kent was sitting on a small television table we had gotten from our grandparents when a leg broke.  Unfortunately said table was at the top of the stairs....so it was a ride for life for Kent down the steps on what was left of the table.  Very exciting!

I am starting a project today......scanning some old newspaper articles and other items that I have collected over the years, so that I can throw away some stuff.

Might be scary.  But saving it all to files and then to disc will be an adventure, and it will accomplish something with technology!

Last night I watched more discs sent to me by DR MBARNUM.

I watched the rest of SEA HUNT....and then from MGM HD - Hercules and the Barbarians.....which had too much of The Barbarians and not enough of Mr Fancy Pants Mark Forest as Hercules, suddenly transferred to 13th century Poland.

And then THE GERTRUDE BERG SHOW.....whew....some attractive co-stars....but Miss Berg's bizarre dress necklines drove me crazy, and her telephone routine ... oy!

re: flu shots

Did everywhere in the US do regular flu shots in september and H1N1 in december?  Here we had H1N1 in november and they are starting the regular flu shots now.

The weird thing is that I don't think very many people are going to get the shot now. For H1N1 there were so many people getting sick. And it was crazy to try to get the shot (huge line-ups).

Now there is almost no publicity for the shots and hardly anyone there getting them (they are free if you fall into certain categories).

I'm curious, when someone breaks your table what is the etiquette.  Do they simply feel horribly guilty or do they offer to pay for part of it?

I'm actually enjoying the AMERICAN IDOL auditions. I've seen a lot of people who I really like.

Although I don't think i'm really looking forward to ellen.  I really hope that she adds something to the show.  My fear is that she won't know anything about singing and be like she was when she judged on SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE.

I will be late coming back to the site this afternoon. At 4, I'm supposed to take part in a roundtable interview with director Jonathan Mostow about SURROGATES. The last time I tried to take part in one of these things, my computer wasn't powerful enough to connect. I have a new computer (last August), and I'm hoping for the best. So, all my work this afternoon on PAISAN is going to have to start about half an hour earlier in order to get up to the computer and log on in time for the interview.

TV Notes:

There is a new MODERN FAMILY tonight at 9, and ABC is repeating the pilot tonight at 8 (which is very funny).

A new HUMAN TARGET also comes on tonight in its new timeslot at 9 on Fox.

Looks like LEVERAGE, which had a new episode last week, is offering a repeat this week. Very strange for a cable network to be doing this. Usually they show new episodes in consecutive blocks.

Most of the broadcast networks are offering up mainly new slates of episodes tonight. Don't forget about UGLY BETTY at 10 on ABC. It could sure use more eyeballs.

So, I am home today.  Last night I left all my work in my car, so this morning I went to the garage to get it.  As I came back in the door to the mud/laundry room, I heard something fall off the counter. Since is it way too cluttered, I wasn't sure what it was...until I saw red everywhere!!! It was the can of red paint I used to paint the desk I did for DGN Gabe.  OMG!.  It was on me, on the cabinets and pooled all over the floor.

Luckily I was able to mop it up and scrub it with Mr. Clean.  So, it's not perfect, but they only place you can see it is in the grout areas between the tile

I put the paint can, all the rags and paper towels etc in a garbage bag.  It looks like I cleaned up a messy murder scene rather than a paint explosion.  One sniff and you know it's paint, but I laughed as I put it in the trash wondering if it will catch someone's eye

I'm back.  Yesterday was not a great day.  It began with a thunder crash so loud, the house shook and all the car alarms went off on the street.  I thought it was an explosion of some sort (since we live in an industrial area, it could have been an explosion) but realized later it was just thunder.  However, it awoke me from a dream and I was wide awake and said a few choice words when it happened.  So, whatever, it's over... it just set the tone for the day (rainy)

Other than that, it's raining again!

I do not like looking at the past.....and I also found a copy of the worst review I ever got....

"....he does not act or react to anything....I felt the same way when I saw him in 'Ma Rainey's Black Bottom.'  He is not an actor."

Has anyone else ever received negative reviews for TWO plays in the same article?  The review was for my part in SISTER MARY IGNATIUS EXPLAINS IT ALL FOR YOU - and I don't think I was THAT bad....I think the director would have told me.

DR S.W.W., thanks for the report.  I hated hospital time.  I don’t know which was worse, waiting 45 minutes for pain meds or assistance to the bathroom.  I was drinking tons of ice water making 45 minutes extremely difficult to wait.  One time I was on the phone with keith & he kept talking to me so I wouldn’t get out of bed on my own ;D

OLTL is truly awesome today, with a fantastic verbal catfight between the gay couple and the ex-stripper gold-digging whores. While it wasn't Noel Coward drawing room comedy, it was very very funny:

Kim: "Once a blackmailer always a blackmailer. You give gays a bad name"
Kyle: "You two ain't exactly doing much for strippers and sluts either"

This soap is to be commended for so many reasons, but its writers deserve a big nod for its wonderful balance of outrageous humor and melodrama.

At the flu clinic i went to yesterday they were also offering the H1N1 in case anyone had not gotten it and still wanted it. But i think everybody was just getting the regular flu shot.

Usually there are a lot more people getting the seasonal flu shot. But i guess since there have not been massive outbreaks of it, and many people got the H1N1 they are opting out this year.

It definitely does feel like a weird time of the year to get it.

Since then Ive been sleeping the day away.  When I'm awake I got stomach cramps, aches and pains plus a sore chest and a stress headache from all of the strain of vomiting (I'm not very good at it...)

I am sick at home today.  Woke up at about 1:00 am with an overwhelming need to vomit and that began an houly ritual throughout the night. It kept up until 10 this morning--ugh...

Since then Ive been sleeping the day away.  When I'm awake I got stomach cramps, aches and pains plus a sore chest and a stress headache from all of the strain of vomiting (I'm not very good at it...)

Again, ugh...

Feel better soon!

OK, in the small world department - have any of you in the music field ever worked with a French horn player named Russ (or Russell) Rizner?  Through Facebook I've been connecting with Detroit school friends and found out that he's worked on a lot of Broadway shows and Broadway and classical recordings.  He was slightly behind me all through elementary and junior high.

My educated guess is that it was a variation on "What the hell!"

I just got finished with the interview of the director of SURROGATES. It ran over by about 25 minutes, but it was late starting and the questions and answers popped up slowly enough that I got my review written up for today! That made me VERY happy.

I began by watching last night's WHIET COLLAR while I ate lunch.

It was a tremendous relief that the FBI agent working with the hero wasn't working against him behind his back. I liked their camaraderie and teamwork and hated the distance that was growing between them.

Then I watched PAISAN, the second of the Rossellini films in the box set. It's an episodic film - six stories connected by the Allied forces moving up through Italy and liberating it during the last year of the second world war. In this kind of story, obviously there are segments that will appeal more than others. I like the three middle ones the best - Rome, Florence, and a monestary. All held me attention, however, and the film is very good.

Apart from Rossellini's introduction filmed for Italian television in 1963, there were only three bonus features, and I had time to watch all of them. Once again, the third one goes into detail with all three films in the set giving away the endings and spoiling them for anyone unfamiliar with the movie.

I had time to skim through one of today's soaps, and I chose AS THE WORLD TURNS since I knew the boys weren't going to be on, and I wanted to have time to savor all of the good stuff with Kyle and Fish on OLTL.

Anyway, nothing of interest on ATWT though there is a LOT of drama with Damian and his lies and manipulations.

Has anyone seen a commercial for Moe's with Bo Bice? Greg worked on it but we haven't seen it yet. I heard it was running in American Idol, which is logical.

I'll be back in NY this week for more bloodletting...errr...editing but won't have any social time. Waaah....
If we finish early, I might be able to sneak in a show, so I may call and ask for your advice!

Hello, everyone.

I've been busy for the last couple weeks hunting for an apartment. I'll be moving on Friday and Saturday. DF&H has offered to help, which is much appreciated. He has been very generous as it is by letting me stay with him so long. What started as two weeks of house-sitting has now been six weeks. I've gotten to know the neighbors and sort of settled in.

Yes, the rain. This is one of those 40-days-and-40-nights things. I spent the day shopping for stuff for the new apartment. NOT the day to be doing this! Drivers were saner than usual, thankfully, but there was lots of flooding. As DF&H was coming home from the gym he saw part of the hillside give way right in front of him. Oy!

And of course the management company said I had to talk to the manager.   I said what manager, she moved out last weekend.  What!.

Then I was told to call the police.   The police just said it was a management game, they know we can't do anything but it buys them time till the tenant gives up and moves out.

Because I had limited time this evening due to being upstairs later than usual, I didn't get tp watch as many things as usual.

I started with today's ONE LIFE TO LIVE. An excellent episode, and Kyle was in rare form with his retorts. And the best thing about it is that Kyle and Oliver are working together rather than doing things in secret "for the other's good" that would end up later backfiring on one or the other of them. At least, so far they're a team, and it's just SO refreshing to see this in a soap which is almost always about one part of a couple doing things behind the back of the other.

OOH Cilla!  Iam so glad youwere able to clean up the red paitn mess - that could have been nasty!!

(and aren't you glad that no running cats were caught in the deluge?)

I keep them out of that room when I'm bringing things in and out.  What would have REALLY been bad is if it has spilled on them and not just their feet!

Honestly, what I was thinking was how glad I was it happened on a day when I didn't have to go to the office and could take the time to immediately clean it up.

It's Russkie night on TCM.....but most of the movies I have seen before.  There is some spy movie coming on in a bit that I may watch for awhile.

We have a freezing rain advisory right now.  Hopefully my car will come home tomorrow.

Good Evening!

Part of me wants to crawl into bed, get comfy under my comforter, put on some Bach, and doze off.  Another part of me wants to stay up all night.  ???

So, in the meantime...

Today - well, this afternoon and evening at least, ended up being a repeat of yesterday's afternoon and evening.  I went to another recital at Carnegie Hall's Weill Recital Hall at 5:30, and then high-tailed it out of there directly to Pearl Studios to play for the master-classes I've been playing for the past week and a half. And since tonight was the last class in the series, I headed out afterwards with the gang for some post-class eats at the Tick-Tock Diner - which, I believe, is a favorite of DR MBarnum.

And since I got up early this morning to stand in the "20 for 20" line at the Lincoln Center Atrium to get a ticket to South Pacific for my roommate, well... It really has been a long day.  But a good one.  Very productive, constructive, instructive and entertaining.

Had a great conversation with DR JHVW today.  He has moved out of the house and started back to college yesterday.   It's been a long road to get back to where he is now and I'm so proud of him.  He sounds very excited about school and getting out of the house. He said he'd stop back here to say hello.  Hope he does

DR Jane - Thanks for passing on the DR DER BRUCER updates.  *Do you happen to know what kind of tea DR SWW brought from home?  I only ask since my Mom is a coffee and tea person, and after she had her open heart and bypass surgery, she was not allowed to have any caffeine for a couple of weeks.  It was contraindicative with her post-op medications.  In any case...

Time to get some sleep.  It's really strange that tomorrow is Thursday. Staying home makes it feel like a Sunday. Anyway, I'm curious to see if I'll hear from my clients who work at the plant that is closing.  I'm not sure yet how it will impact my practice.  I have clients who work there, but also have a lot who don't.  It will be interesting to see how this pans out.  We have less than 100,000 people here.  Losing 1450 jobs is major.

Today's Duo Recital at Weill Recital Hall featured mezzo-soprano, Sashe Cooke, and baritone, Kelly Markgraf - who happen to be newlyweds - and the indispensable Steven Blier at the piano.  The first part of the program consisted of songs based on the texts from "Des Knaben Wunderhorn" - a classic, if not the classic collection of German folk poetry, and the second part featured songs by Kurt Weill and Jerome Kern. -With a great Harold Arlen/Ira Gershwin song as an encore, "A New Day".

One of the Weill songs sung by Sasha Cooke was "Wie lange noch?" ("How much longer?") which is a re-working of Weill's own "Je ne t'aime pas".  The new lyric provided by Walter Mehring describes a women and her lover, however, it's clearly a representation of Germany and Hitler.  -Both Weill and Mehring were banned by the Third Reich and fled from Germany to America.  What a truly powerful song.

Program Note #1:

I guess it has been a while since I've seen Steven Blier perform, or seen him in person - When he made his entrance from backstage on a motorized cart, it caught me off guard a bit.  I had also noticed beforehand that the piano seat was set a pretty high level, and had thought it was some sort of mistake, but... Then I vaguely remembered and reminded myself that he's been dealing with muscular dystrophy over the past couple of years.  Thankfully, his interpretive skills - which have always had a humorous edge to them - were still in evidence, and his banter between songs was as informative and enlightening as ever.

Debra, DAW has decided to no longer post.

oh no!

DAW was at the recital too.  It was good seeing David again.

Program Note #3:

Once again, Marilyn Horne introduced the artists for today's recital.  After telling some personal anecdotes about Sasha and Kellly, she noted that the one Strauss song listed in the program had been cut... And then she proceeded to sing a bit of it a cappella as she walked off the stage to take her seat in the audience... :)

I've met Russ a few times.  He plays in the pit at the New Amsterdam for Mary Poppins.  Here's his IBDB (http://ibdb.com/person.php?id=389191) listing.

Cilla, I hadn't thought of that one.

But with PROMISES PROMISES coming up, I had toodled around with one to "I'll Never fall in Love Again":

What do you get when you skip the polls?
A guy with a staple through his tummy
That’s what you get you stupid dummy
I'll never skip the polls again
I'll never skip the polls again

What do you get when you stay at home?
A guy with a past who’s still a hottie
Just what we need, a naked Scottie
I'll never skip the polls again
I'll never skip the polls again

Don't tell me ‘bout your strep and gout
'Cause if you cared you’d’ve stepped on out
Now you’ll have health plans that restrict you
That is why I’d like to have kicked you

Out of your house when your lazy ass
Sat on the couch getting soft and mushy
Go get inspired by Scott Brown’s tushy
I'll never skip the polls again
I'll never skip the polls again

(Don’t tell me we were just outclassed
We know he won’t cover up his past)
Right into that legislative body
Let us hope he won’t be too shoddy

What can’t you get when you do not vote?
You can’t get the flu, so watch the weather
You’re outta luck, now all-together
I'll never skip the polls again
I'll never skip the polls again

Well, that's a rough pass at it anyway,
