The first alien film was some Japanese film I saw in a hotel room in NYC, April 1968. I have no memory of the film or title with the exception of one scene where the alien is in the sky and looked like a jellyfish/

Well... Let's just say that I hope that "Monday" does not live up to its reputation today.  I'm kind of waiting for that other proverbial shoe to drop.  But it's one of those situations where I'm not sure the first one dropped in the first place. :-\

Happy birthday to Juliana!

Are we the aliens when we visit another planet? That said, my first alien picture was probably some Japanese monster flick shown on TV one Saturday afternoon back in the days when there only three or four channels to choose from.

Faves? "Forbidden Planet," "The Day the Earth Stood Still" (original), "Rocky Horror Picture Show," and "Alien."

Good morning, all! I can only hope that February is a better month than January, which has been a month filled with too many unpleasant things. I expect more fallout today from last week's resignation, I have no idea how the battlefield known as the Sale of My Father's Property currently lies, and God alone knows what fresh hell will turn up today.

Last night I went to hear a performance of "Baby Goes Bang," a collection of songs written and performed by Becca Ayers, who is in SOUTH PACIFIC, backed up by friends with whom she's written material, my friend Chris on drums, and backup by her sister Heather Ayers. I walked into the space on 500 West 52nd and ran smack into my frend Mark Falconer who is working there as a stage manager. The turnout was small last night - football game - and I suspect tonight the place will be packed, but it was a wonderful show and a lot of the material was really super. I really enjoyed meeting everyone, and it was a nice way to spend an evening.

Today, I have to call for meds and pick them up this morning. At 2:15 I have my yearly physical exam, and I have several questions and concerns for Dr Munshi.

Gorgeous day here after a hellish rain last night. After I logged off, the heavens opened up, and we had a monsoon. Haven't heard heavy rain like that in a long time. But it's beautiful here today and warm enough that I didn't even need a jacket this morning on my walk. Going to cool down, however.

TOD - probably "Close Encounters of the Third Kind"  - if that counts.

Last night, the DP and I saw the new Cirque du Solei show Ovo, which was quite fun.  The music was incredible as were the acts.  Afterward we had dinner at Town Hall (https://www.townhallsf.com/flashsite/index.php) and that was quite yummy.  For dessert, I had the butterscotch and chocolate Pot De Creme, which came in a deep bowl and it was filled to the top.  More like a Trough de Creme or a Boat de Creme.  But it was SOOOO good.

Today, it's back to normal.

My CD just arrived in the mail but I haven't opened the carto yet. I can spot Kimmel print a mile away!

So here's today's news: my blood tests were all fine except for my cholesterol which has gone from very good to bad. Dr Munshi and i are styied since I have not changed my diet, as I can recall, and I need to figure out what I've done. We're going to check it again in three months before she decides whether or not to put me on meds for it. Otherwise, all tests were great and I'm very happy with everything else. I have my referrals for the rheumatoid specialist, I've got my eye exam scheduled, and npow I have to do is sell that damned property in Ohio. Send some vibes, please!

I spoke to Joshie, and tomorrow I stop at Encores! to hep them with FANNY. It will be fun.

When I got back from the store, I settled in with my lunch and watched Saturday night's CASTLE rerun. It was that great show about the man stuffed in a garbage chute which leads to a very convoluted plot about coorperate espionage that's one of the show's best ever mysteries. I remembered who the murderer was from seeing it the first time, but I remember not having a clue when it first aired.

Then I watched the three remaining episodes of DYNASTY I had remaining in the box set. Alexis arrested for murder, Sammi Jo moving back to Denver to cause all kinds of trouble, Diahann Carroll's Dominique Deveraux being introduced in the season's final two episodes  and singing "I'm Through with Love"(with much trouble yet to come from her in the next season), Fallon running off from her wedding to Jeff, etc. etc.

All this stuff is hilarious to watch now, but folks sure ate it up at the time. It was the third highest ranked show of the season in 1983-84.

So, a volunteer about my mother's age came to wheel me to Room 104 (in the ER) and the nurse there gave me the gown and slipper socks and said she'd be back to start an IV.  Just as I got all settled in my fetching hospital outfit, 3 nurses came in, connected the phone, and said the doctor's office wanted to talk to me.  The regular rooms in the hospital are all full, so I've been sent home and home health is coming to administer my blood thinner shots (which Richard is picking up from the pharmacy).  I am immobilized, except to go to the bathroom, so I'm very thankful for wireless.  Oh, and they did let me change into my own clothes and bring the slipper socks home.

DR elmore - Was your total cholesterol count up? Or just the "bad cholesterol"?  -Those can be rhetorical questions for the purposes of this site.  In any case, stress can cause an increase in the "bad stuff", so, hopefully, as the next couple of weeks play out, your levels will come back down.

I went to a family dinner last night at a large popular restaurant (which was totally packed).  We were in a large group and they put us in this separate rather cramped room beside the bar.

I could see some people loving this (much quieter and more private).  But my first thought was that i was going to be sick!  I am claustrophobic and the walls were very close to the table.

The weird thing was my mom was there and she sort of laughed when i expressed my concern (and obviously she should know if i'm claustrophobic).

Anyhow luckily i took the end seat (that led into the bar). So i was mostly okay.  It was just so weird. You don't expect to have to deal with claustrophobia in a huge restaurant!

i came home with blue ones that have been great with all our hardwood floor.  without them i might very well have slipped, especially the 1st month when i was so wobbly.  they have multiple holes in them so now i only use them when i do my stretches that put me at risk of slipping & injuring my arm.

It's not horrible by any means, it's noticeable mostly in the fleshtones.  While everything is, yes, slightly yellowish, the reds especially pop nicely.  I forgot to pay attention--was this Warnercolor?  It has that look to it.

I've been watching some other clips from the fifties and it seems the envelope is already opened and the card is lying on top. I wonder what year that stopped and the presenter opened the envelope in front of the audience

think of all the time that saved, they should begin doing it again.

I moved on Saturday with the help of DF&H. He managed to fit everything into the two cars. (He has a station wagon.) Today the cable guy came and got me online. The rest of the time I've spent unpacking and doing more shopping. DF&H loaned me a very fancy air mattress, which I've been using as a bed until I can find a real one. I have NO other furniture at the moment. Everything is in storage in Virginia. As I was unpacking this morning I did find some dishes and silverware, which is a help, to be sure. Right now I'm sitting on the floor, using a box of files as a sort of desk. I will be glad to have some furniture soon.

I began my evening watching TWILIGHT. I have not read the books, so I only knew the tiniest bit about this series before I watched this tonight. I surprised myself by actually liking it OK. Nothing great, mind you, but it held my interest despite being too long (by about 15 or 20 minutes, I thought).

Know what I liked best? The fact that the high school had a group of nice kids who weren't mean and vicious to a new student and who actually found her worthy as a friend without her having to prove something to them. For movies made today, that is refreshing indeed.

Up next was CHUCK which had a very entertaining caper for Chuck. Nice to see Steve Austin (the wrestler, not the Six Million Dollar Man) on the show (looking very fit).

I think one of my biggest problems with TWILIGHT was that i had preconceived ideas of what the characters would look like. And I was quite disappointed in most of the casting. Almost nobody was how i thought they should be.

I thought the books were MUCH better. Although I am still curious to see if movie 2 is better than #1.

And I ended my evening with '24' which was not as thrilling an episode as the last couple have been. It had its moments, and it was necessary to set up Renee undercover, but I'm sure the show will bounce back next week with another chiller.

The thing I found the most startling is that in the books Edward's family is supposed to be stunningly beautiful (all of them).

To me they were all fine looking. But I would not look at any of them and think of them as stunning.

Also, I knew Taylor Lautner was in the new one, but I had no idea he was in the first installment. That also surprised me.

He has a much bigger part in the second movie. I don't think he was that popular when they made the first movie. I think they were thinking about not asking him back for #2. I'll bet they are glad they kept him now (since he seems to be hugely popular).

Quote
I certainly can see why preteens and teens were so enraptured with it.

It's funny, i love the books but i can't totally get why preteens and teens are so crazed about the movies. To me TWILIGHT the movie was just okay. It had so much more potential.  I guess they have to leave out a lot from the books.  And I guess my expectations were quite high.

The thing I find sort of interesting re: teens is that there are lots who read the books and who loved the books. But they seem to also love the movies.  I guess maybe they don't think as much about casting and other things that adults might consider.

No DR JOSE not a Goodwill Find.  I paid almost $500 for it, and it is now packed up and headed back to WalMart in the next few days.....I  have 15 days to return it.

I hate WINDOWS 7 - it is the worst Operating System I have ever tried to use.....AND of course it would not recognize three of my accessories....and there were no driver updates for Windows 7 for any of them.

So I have hooked my XP system back up and will suffer until it finally bites the dust.....sooner or later.

Why suffer when I don't have to.

Back to the maybe new house tomorrow.  We must turn off the main water valve to see if that stops the water meter from running.  Pray for Rosemary's mansion.  :)

In the intriguing news department, the inspector informed me that there is a "secret" finished storage room over the garage.  I hadn't noticed there are those pull down steps out in the garage.  So I want to check that out tomorrow, too.  I can keep Betsy chained there when the new governess arrives.  ;)

Even though I don't own a BD player, I've always wondered about those audio features which "enhance" the original audio "layout".  Is it just a matter of making sure that all the fill speakers are used during playback?

Re-boot your computer, and try again.  If you still can't gain access to your iDisk, do a reset of your password - which I think you can do by following the prompts.  Hopefully no one else has accessed your iDisk and reset your username and password.

I'm not quite sure what you're asking but if you mean, do repurposed 5.1 tracks utilize surround channels, the answer is yes, depending.  ;)  For something like THE MUSIC MAN, occasional foley and ambient effects will spill into the surrounds, and the music typically does as well.  What I was actually referring to aside from channel usage is the "sound" of the stems, which simply aren't as clear as today's tracks are (to state the obvious).  There's always a certain "boxiness" that attends some of these older tracks, especially musicals.  Sometimes I just wish we had the original tracks and didn't worry so much about "upgrading."

Sam, do you know for sure who is doing this stuff?  And can you not report this to the police?  Or, if you know for sure, do you want someone to pay them a little visit to teach them a lesson about good citizenship that they will never forget.

Without rebooting, I went back to the iDisk and it was fine.  I  hate these weird hiccups and they always seem to happen with the Time Machine is doing its backup.

The DVD Savant is very pleased with The Music Man on Blu-Ray.  Of course, how seriously can we take him when he bashes Morton Da Costa's direction and misspells Meredith Willson's name.

Well, I'm going to sign off.  I've started watching "The Hangover" and will go to bed as soon as it's over.  I need to turn it in tomorrow, so I don't have a 15¢ fine. :)

So, good night.
