Friday.  It is 8 degrees and it is a work day.  Oh well.

I liked the song from DIRTY ROTTEN SCOUNDRELS that was on the Tony Awards show a few years ago.  I always like Leo.  However Mr John Lithgow is another story - don't like his look or his "way" with a role, so I usually avoid anything he is in, I finally learned my lesson after trying to watch him in several things.

Friday morning greetings!  I have a haircut scheduled this morning and Ruthless-The Musical! with my friend Katie this evening.  In between, I'll be making my 3rd batch of shortbread hearts to take for church coffee hour Sunday (Valentine's Day).

Richard and I saw Dirty Rotten Scoundrels in NYC on our 25th wedding anniversary, the night Jonathan Pryce took over the John Lithgow role.  Even though I was thrilled to see JP in person, the show was one of the few for which I was not compelled to buy the recording to relive the memories.

I appreciate that the lady across the street wants to start her car and get it warm before taking the kiddies to school - a short drive around the corner - but it would be nice if she installed a muffler on the car.

I have to say that I thoroughly enjoyed DIRTY ROTTEN SCOUNDRELS on Broadway when I saw it several years ago. We saw all of the original cast, and I found it loads of fun, tuneful, and well cast.

Good morning!

We might be in for some bad weather later today, tonight, or tomorrow. Snow is in the forecast, and it is that gray/white sky right now that often seems right for it to snow. Cold, too. Glad Friday is my day off from walking/workout.

Back to my Criterion Blu-rays today as I tackle LOLA MONTES. This should be a good weekend viewing already viewed and written up movies in a high resolution and tweaking reviews leaving time for other movie and TV watching.

Looks like CBS is kind of playing dead tonight not bothering with new episodes of GHOST WHISPERER or MEDIUM opposite the Olympic Opening Ceremonies. So, that just means I'll have more time for movie watching and catching up with some stuff on the DVR. I have a pile of shows to watch.

Good morning, all! I've been chatting on Facebook with BJ Clark who was so wonderful in THE BRAIN FROM PLANET X.

I slept late, until 7:30, and I'm planning my day, which is mostly about the New York Public Lbrary at Lincoln Center. Tonight, my drummer friend Chris, who should hopefully have more info for me about his health concerns, and I are seeing a new musical by my friend Peter Foley, THE HIDDEN SKY. I've got a bit more tax work today, and I have to round up all of my 1902  WIZARD OF OZ scores and pack them up for my trip to Amherst this week. It's the only work I will take with me.

I have been loving all of the tux photos, and I think DR Matt H has the cutest photo. There's something about kids and dance recitals that's so cute and so bizarre.

I just watched the new DVD of La Veuve Joyeuse, the French translation of THE MERRY WIDOW, directed by an idiot who sends a troupe of hunters and girls in tutus and high button shoes along with a huge, fat, ugly troll onto the scene whenever he feels his over-choreographed numbers are making sense. Another travesty from Eurotrash Productions Unlimited.

RE:  PROJECT RUNWAY

Not a Spoiler---

I don't understand why Lifetime has been giving away the exact nature of the challenges in the short promo that precedes each new episode.  Normally, the end-of-episode preview keeps each upcoming challenge a secret and I like sharing the anticipation each week with the designers and being surprised at the reveal.  But these stupid promos just flat out tell what is coming up.  I now have to remember that if I am going to watch PR live that I need to wait until the exact moment that the exact moment it actually begins instead of tuning in too early.  Grrrrrrrrr...

Thank you, DR JRand, and thank you, DR Elmore. This was not our year-end dance recital but rather we were performing for a junior high school Valentine's Day dance.

You can't see it in this photo (I have another where it's plainly visible) but earlier that day, I had slammed the car door on my right hand thumb and it was wrapped up.

I, too, loved the movie version of "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels" and felt half-hearted about the score of the musical. Though I liked it better than "The Full Monty" score, I wasn't too taken with much on the album except for the performers. I always thought it was something that didn't translate from stage to album. Oh well.

Congrats on the sellout.

TOD:

CD Player: "Henry, Sweet Henry" and "Take Me Along" (The Bob Merrill fix continues)

DVD: "Pushing Daisies" (first season) and maybe "Ran," which I haven't seen since it was originally released, and I remembered loving most every minute of it.

Here's what's interesting about Dirty Rotten Scoundrels - I went to You Tube to look for the number done on the Tony Awards and instead found the entire show in eight or nine parts, shot from the audience by some yokel.  And guess what?  Despite imagining how great the performances of Lithgow and Butz and Gleason, etc. must have been - they weren't.  Maybe it was an off night or a quiet audience, but the laughs were chuckles rather than guffaws (only a handful of those) and I thought the staging was dreadful (this reeks of Jack O'Brien, but I don't know if he did it or not).  I was, frankly, a little surprised by it.

DR Jane - Sounds like severe sinus pain to me.  If it recurs tonight, call you doctor first thing in the morning. (If you haven't already done so by the time you read this post).

LOL-I knew you would have something helpful to say on the subject. :)  Thank you, it makes me feel better.  Truthfully I was a bit nervous about going to sleep.  Once I got to sleep, no problems & while my eye is still mildly tender it isn’t anything to worry about.

Poor Keith, before going to bed he asked what the night holds in store.  I’ve given him, and myself, far too many scares in the middle of the night, especially these last 11 weeks.  The guy is a saint to still be here ;D

Back from having my hair done and running a few errands.  I have discovered a blood thinner side effect that I don't remember from last time - intolerance for the cold.  Of course, it was the middle of summer the last time I took blood thinners - today the temperature outside is barely above 20.
Title: Re: THE SAND DAB

Is that a normal side effect?  I hope it is a temporary one, especially considering were you live.

I too had my hair done, only yesterday.  I was due for a haircut 11 weeks ago, which really was a good thing as the front was long & off my face.

DR Jane - it's not one of the side effects listed in the paperwork when you pick up a prescription, but common enough to be easily found on the Internet.  Actually, Richard found it last night after I spent the evening complaining about it being cold in our house and he was quite comfortable.  It's so unusual for me to be the one who's cold, he suspected that it might be my meds.  Sure enough, he found it right away.

I think I'll mosey on over to the book fair.  I did a little proofing and reading, found three memorabilia boxes, but there definitely has to be another because I know I have a couple of specific items that weren't in these boxes - but what was in them was amazing, and again, I have to move a couple of things around because of screwy timelines.

Thanks.  I did that this morning.  Mostly I was doing the warm compresses with some cold ones mixed in.  I'm great this afternoon.

I have a coupon for Tylenol Sinus I'm thinking of using.  I wonder if it really works.  Without pressure pain I don't even realize I'm having a problem.

Today began badly.  I awoke with the alarm to open Dixie's door.  Barefooted, in the kitchen, I thought that the carpet felt rather cold.  I turned up the heat on the way back to the bedroom and crawled back under the covers, keeping my feet nice and warm for the next hour of snoozing.  When the alarm to get up and get ready for work went off, I slipped on my slippers and went to the kitchen for my morning coffee.  Miss Dixie Bell came in from outdoors, gave my hand a lick and returned to her sleeping spot back the hall.  I leaned over and felt the carpet, it was not only cold, it was W-E-T!!!!
Having not been able to go into work on Wednesday, I knew I could not miss yet another day due to winter's havoc.  I telephoned my pseudo-brother Stanely (long story short, he's married to my pseudo-sister Patty), but got his voicemail.  I left him a message stating that I was on my way out the door to work, but, if he had the chance, could he stop in and check on where the wetness was coming from.  Since the wetness was right near Dixie's door, and close to where Mum parks her wheelchair, I was quite concerned about leaving Mum at home alone with it.
By the time I made it to work, Mum was up and calling other relatives, who did come to our rescue.  It seems that the ice which has been forming at the house's corner has been melting significantly enough to start seeping into this one particular area.  A cousin from up the road came down and brought up my dehumidifier from my room;l another cousin, two doors down, came up and started chipping away the ice formations and finally, Stanley and Patty arrived with Stanley digging snow off our roof and Patty drying up the kitchen carpet as well as helping Mum to get dinner ready.  Stanley's nephew came down a while later and continued getting snow off the the roof.
When the winter finally breaks, it looks like we'll have to re-caulk all of the gutters and build Miss Dixie Bell a new doghouse. . .well, this one that she has used to be Miss Minx's, so it's a good twenty-year-old structure.  You can see the doghouse in several photos I have posted.
When all is said and done, it is gratifying to know that we have family and friends we can totally rely on when the going gets tough.
I know that I am grateful to have such a network of family and friends.

Thanks, and I agree. No argument from me.

I remember her sitting over the sewing machine one year in tears because she was having to work with some greenish/gold foil material to make a vest, and it kept tearing. She finally got it done, but that vest had to be handled like the crown jewels because that foil material was so fragile.

Next I watched this week's PROJECT RUNWAY. Of the top three, I would have chosen the second place finsher, I think. The winner was eye-catching but I didn't think it was all that flattering to the girl's figure like the judges said it was. Maybe it was just the bad angle of the TV cameras, but it wasn't my favorite.

As for the bottom three, I was certainly in agreement with the losing design. Drab and awful.

I met Chris at Arties (where's PennyO they keep asking me!) around 6:30 and then we headed up to 86th Street yo see THE HIDDEN SKY, a new musical based on a story by Ursula K Le Guin, "The Masters." My friend Peter Foley wrote the music and lyrics, and the book was by the show's director Kate Chisholm. The cast was very good and the singing was excellent. I liked the band, although I think the orchestrations for the 8-piece ensemble sounded muffled - if there was a horn back there I never heard it! - behind the scenery. Some of the arrangements were quite beautiful and colorful, but the most moving section of the score for me was Ben Gunderson's beautiful Act Two solo, accompanied only by the piano.

Hi HHW'ers.  It's been an interesting 36 hours or so.  Long of the short of it is, my Grandmother had a stroke yesterday.  She's in the hospital where they are taking good care of her.  She goes in and out of knowing who you are and responding correctly to questions, etc.  This evening, she ate some dinner.  They are keeping an eye on the bleeding in her brain.  The CT scan tomorrow should tell us more.  She called my mom by name today, which was  a big deal, and when Fr Michael (my boss) came and gave her a blessing, she made the sign of the cross with him.  So, we are hopeful.  She's a very special woman in my life, and as long as she is not in any pain, we are so glad she is still with us.  Oh, she's 93 and 1/2.

Other than that, life is great.

The HD broadcast looks fantastic, but the sound sucks, for some reason.

I've been watching the opening ceremonies and either the sound or the sound AND the picture went out not once...not twice...but THREE times!  What's that all about?? >:(

That new version of "We Are the World"... A Travesty. A true travesty.  If you have to get singers who need to be auto-tuned, then they should not have been asked to sing on it in the first place.  -And the video syncing with Janet Jackson was laughable and sad.

Ditto...on all counts. :P

I'm very tired but will not get to sleep in since she of the Evil Eye will be here quite early.  So, I'll go have a bagel and proof and then head over to the Hollywood Show.
