Well, you've read the notes, the notes were up to snuff and if they weren't, tough, and now it is time for you to post until the up to snuff cows come home.

And the word of the day is: FINAGLE!

A Very Happy Birthday to DR Matthew!! ;D

Happy Birthday to DR MATTHEW!

Great book news from MR BK!

Great book news from DR DRUXY!

I changed the choreography slightly last night to IMPROVE the dance. It's always better to change things BEFORE the dance is taught to your partner....although I am sure we will make some adjustments today.
-
I hope DR CILLA LIZ had her electric power restored.
-
DR FJL....I loved that commercial. I haven't seen it on air yet.

Happy Birthday, Matthew!

Happy Happy Birthday to Matthew!

FJL, when you asked about the Aretha-Liza commercial I thought you were nuts. Then I watched it. Hilarious.
-
So sorry DR TCB. Vibes. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

DR Jane thanks for posting that Ellen/Kara/Angela Martin story.
I can't say she was one of my favorites. But i was so moved by her story. And i was very upset when they cut her right before the top 24. I believe it was her last year to be on the show. And i thought it was cruel of them to bring her so far and cut her then.
-
BK very interesting book news! I also enjoy hearing about it!
-
Happy Birthday to DR Matthew!

DR MattH re: elvis stojko's comments on men's skating.
When i first read the comments i did not know he (elvis) said them. And thought them extremely harsh (he thought plushenko was robbed). Then I saw him (stojko) and other skater/analysts (US champion sasha cohen included). And it was a video, so you could actually see what they were saying. Even though i don't agree with what was said overall it made more sense.
I think the thing i disagree with the most is that plushenko did not skate cleanly (okay maybe he did not fall but he stumbled a lot). I think if he had skated as cleanly as he usually does then the comments from Stojko/Sasha Cohen ... might have been valid.
Interestingly, Stojko said it had nothing to do with who he liked personally. And he actually said he thought that johnny weir should have been scored higher than canadian patrick chan. I would have thought he would have preferred Chan with all the jumps vs weir who is more artistic.
-
re: the olympics I'd have to say last night's 1000M men's short track race was one of the most disappointing for canada. The final had 2 koreans, apolo anton ohno and 2 canadian brothers (the Hamelins). Obviously going in everybody knew how strong the koreans were. And that ohno was trying to be the most decorated US winter olympian ever (plus he's a great racer). But boy it was so disappointing to have the brothers lead the race and then end up 4th and 5th at the end. :(

Good Morning!
I'm up, I'm up... And I'm eating my oatmeal. Slow-cooker oatmeal, in fact. Yum!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DR MATTHEW!!!!!

And now...
I have some tidying up to take care of around the apartment, and then a couple of things to attend to outside of my apartment.
Laters...

Good morning, all! The BBC version of EMMA ended around around 2 am, so I slept in until 9 am. I've bathed, had my first cup of coffee and I will shortly begin my final round of receipt tallies for 2009. I have until Thursday at noon to finish them, so I will take my time and pull no allnighters.
I had enjoyed the one PBS episode of EMMA that I caught, but the series was shortened by PBS. The 4-hour DVD set is the complete BBC broadcast, and I think it has now become my favorite adaptation of the novel, with CLUELESS running a close second choice. I liked the A&E version with Kate Beckinsale much better than the one with Gwyneth Paltrow, which has moments but also has many of the same problems I find with the Greer Garson version of PRIDE AND PREJUDICE: too pretty, too cuddly, too coy, more Hollywood than Regency England, and lacking too much bite. I remember liking it in the theatres but I've lost a lot of patience with it. Of the four differnt casts, I still prefer the A&E cast: I think Mark Strong is the best Knightley and Beckinsale the best Emma, but I like Michael Gambon in the 2009 version as Mr Wodehouse as much as I like Bernard Hepton in the A&E. Emma's protege Harriet Smith is best in the new version, but I felt that the actresses playing Miss Taylor and Jane Fairfax looked so much alike that I had a hard time telling them apart. As for poor Miss Bates, I think I prefer Prunella Scales, because she's one of my favorite actresses. I think I will work for a bit, and tonight watch the Paltrwo and Beckinsale versions again.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Health Vibes to DR TCB, DS Gabe, and any DRs in need of them! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Happiest of Birthday Wishes to DR Matthew !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Enuff snuff stuff.
Good morning!
Another beautiful day here, but we continue to get the forecast for rain tomorrow, so our blissful weekend seems to be coming to an end. But I enjoyed my walk this morning, and hope the rain will hold off tomorrow so I can get my walk in and not have to use the treadmill.
-
I hope to get several things accomplished today. My first order of business is to clear the ladies Torino Olympics from my DVR cache. Yep, it's been there four years, and I've just been so busy working that I have never taken the time to get those long and short programs onto discs, but having done the men's 2010 skating yesterday, I am eager to get the ladies from four years ago done so I can clear out even more room on my DVR. That should clear a further 16% of room on the cache, and I will be much happier that it's transferred and off there.
-
Then I want to watch THE READER which got recorded last night. I should have time to get that watched this afternoon.
-
A BIG HHW BIRTHDAY CHEER TO DR MATTHEW!!!
-
Page deux!
-
Tonight I'll probably watch a Blu-ray disc - maybe THE DA VINCI CODE or VAN HELSING or TO LIVE AND DIE IN L.A.
And if I have any spare time, I'd like to start working my way back through six seasons of THE ADVENTURES OF SUPERMAN. Having read those two SUPERMAN nonfiction books back-to-back over the last week or 10 days, I'd like to watch the shows again, which I'vbe always found entertaining since I was a little boy. Sure, they're loaded with goofs and lame plots (sometimes), but the show always takes me right back to my childhood, and I can't wait to see some of the episodes again.
-
A Very Happy Birthday to DR Matthew!!!
-
Thanks for the birthday wishes!!! The best part of having a birthday at HHW is waking up to find such lovely greetings. Today is work, party with the Beauty and the Beast Jr. cast and then the DP has organized a Wii Bowling tournament with some of our closest friends complete with soup and sandwiches. Who could ask for anything more?
-
Well, I'm going to head down now and get to working on those Torino Olympics.
WBBL.
Happy Birthday, Matthew!
-
Great commercial, FJL! Betsy wanted to watch it several times. ;)
-
Because of Betsy's chance encounter with Ms. Silverman yesterday, we have been privy to all sorts of generally unknown information about the young lass, shared by those who attended this comedy writing conference yesterday. ;)
-
HAPPY NATAL DAY DR MATTHEW!
Today is also the birthday of singer John DePalma as well as that of musician John Boswell. Obviously some very nice people were born on this day.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY DR MATTHEW!
I'm up, I'm up, after a good night's sleep. Cloudy out.
Is the PBS version you just watched the 3 part Michael Gambon on I recorded? If so, then you think I should get the 4 part DVD instead of watching the 3 part one I have saved?
How is the family of DR JMK today?
VIBES THE ANSWER IF MUCH, MUCH BETTER!!
Gabe still has clogged ears, I still have clogged sinuses and a croupy cough. Betsy and Zach seem to be A-OK. ;)
I find steam helps when I have clogged ears.
I caught the interview with Evan & was very impressed with him & felt he showed true class. While Plushenko is whining (granted he has been fueled by others) Lysacek offered us a kinder view of Plushenko.
I missed the interview with Weir.
I was never a fan of Elvis Stojko.
-
MISSION ACCOMPLISHED! (a George W. Bush reference)
After four years of procrastinating, I finally got the ladies short programs and the ladies long programs off my DVR and onto a DVD-R. It's a tremendous relief to now have them transferred and the DVR cleared of all that room taken up by the HD broadcasts of those two competitions in 2006. Now, the only large scale program I still haven't transferred was last year's Tony Awards which is still on there. That'll be my next order of business, but I'm not in any hurry with it since I've gotten those Olympic programs off there. I will not be pushed to find space for other shows to be be recorded.
-
I have to say in looking back at the ladies of 2006, it was a very unimpressive night for them. Because Sasha Cohen skated early and had some mistakes, the other top ladies downgraded their programs and played it safe. I don't blame them: why take risks when all that was needed was a clean skate to best the person who was previously in first place, but it didn't make for the most exciting Olympics. 1998 and 2002 with Tara Lipinski and Sarah Hughes surprisingly taking the golds were much more tightly contested and nerve-wracking competitions.
-
My Uncle Bob, my mother's youngest brother, is in hospital. I suspect that he is dying; he's 80 years old and in terrible shape. I thought he would be dead a year ago at this time but his body was not ready to let go. When I saw him in December 2008, he told me he'd been seeing his late wife and his mother, and I think they've been waiting for him. When I was born, he and my Uncle Paul were on the Middletown High School football team, and I have very vague memories of beng passed around the team like a football when they hung out at my grandmother's. Bob also dated one of the McGuire Sisters in high school, Phyllis, I think.
He could use some vibes. i'm praying for a quick and peaceful death.
-
Because it took so much time to weave through all those short programs and long programs (poor Carolina Kostner from Italy who was one of the favorites and had two horrific skates; she comes into this year's competition as the European champion and is again expecting to compete for a medal), I didn't have a two hour block left to watch THE READER, so I'll watch it tonight when I go back down.
-
Vibes and prayers for a peaceful journey for Uncle Bob.
-
I wish your Uncle Bob a peaceful and graceful exit if it IS indeed his time, DR Elmore.
I wish that for all of us frankly.
-
So, I started watching selected episodes from Season One of ADVENTURES OF SUPERMAN.
I began with one of my all-time favorite episodes from Season 1: "The Haunted Lighthouse." Great suspense, a real mystery, and wonderful acting by young Jack Larson who conveys fear and confusion beautifully.
-
Page Three Dance!!!
-
I also watched "Night of Terror" (Lois and Jimmy at the mercy of a stone-cold killer, Baby Face Stevens), "The Mystery of the Broken Statues" (a rebus is a key to the mystery), and "The Deserted Village," another favorite.
-
I want to watch "Mystery in Wax" and "The Human Bomb" for sure before I put this set back on the shelf. Those are other favorites from Season One.
-
Back from printing the book, delivering CDs and some breakfast at Marie Callender's, which is the ONLY place I could actually get into without waiting. Yes, there is not ONE single restaurant in the City of Studio that you can get into on a Sunday - EVER. So, I drove to Burbank and apparently in Burbank they're not quite as entitled or spoiled as they are in Studio City.
-
I've been doing some looking around to see what review discs I can expect in the next couple of weeks. Of course, Criterion's entire March release slate should be coming fairly soon, but it looks like this week I can expect Disney's release of PONYO on Blu-ray to show up (it comes out a week from Tuesday) since they usually give a week to 10 days of lead time.
The week of release I'll be expecting GENTLEMEN BRONCOS from Fox on Blu-ray. I know next to nothing about this one.
-
Now I guess I need to put away the already folded laundry, go in and watch THE READER, and then see what kind of time left I'm looking at so I can plan the rest of my evening viewing.
WBBL.
-
DR MATTH - those are some of my favorite episodes from Season One, as well.
Reading FLIGHTS OF FANTASY really put that crazy shooting schedule into perspective....I don't know how they kept everything straight!
Glad you enjoyed the book.
Vibes for the Uncle Bob of DR ELMORE.
Doesn't everyone have an Uncle Bob?
-
Yes, DR JANE - I thought Evan had a good interview - certainly coached and not what you would call spontaneous, but gracious for sure.
-
I did.
-
Here I am with my partner Debbie! Our routine is done and we have five weeks to perfect it!
I think we can win without a quad! ;D
-
We had been dancing for 90 minutes and just took a short break.
I hope you have fun, JRand!
I missed the interview with Weir.
Interestingly, Plushenko was interviewd on canadian tv yesterday. And he seemed very gracious. He didn't even say that he should have won.
I hope you have fun, JRand!
Thanks, DR LAURA....if I survive....it will be a lovely memory.
I feel so bad for Canadian women's figure skater Joannie Rochette. Her mom came to vancouver to watch her skate and she died suddenly this morning of a heart attack. :(
-
Well, I will try to help us got off of page 3.
-
Tonight is TAR! Although not sure when i will watch.
I really want to watch the ice dancing.
-
Although the big thing here is the US/Canada men's hockey game.
That is what they are showing on the main network.
-
I read that NBC will not be showing the hockey game (although they will have it on one of their sister stations).
They said it was because more women watch the olympics.
I do get why they aren't showing it. Since they have a lot to cover I don't know that it would make sense for them to have a 3 hour hockey game. It's not like they could cut in and out of it.
-
Earlier this week they had tons of the $10 Canada red olympic mittens (the ones oprah had). But they are all gone now. Apparently they had to ship them all to vancouver. I find this very odd. I guess there is a huge shortage there.
-
There was a report re: the olympics that was just on canadian tv. Apparently the US has something like 31 top 5 finishes, which translates to 24 medals. And canada has something like 25 top 5 finishes and only 8 medals. :(
-
I am gonna go watch some women's long track speed skating now!
-
Page three???
-
Sunday evening greetings! We've been home from Lima for a couple of hours, but I took a nap as soon as we got here, then talked to my Mom on the phone for a while.
-
Happiest of birthdays to DR Matthew!
~~~~~Vibes of comfort for DR Elmore's Uncle Bob~~~~~

Dear Larry, vibes to your Uncle. I hope the journey is quick and peaceful
-
I have an Uncle Bob as well.

My father's brother.
-
I also had an Uncle Howard and I have an Aunt Elsie (both of them my father's siblings, my mother was an only child).

Guess I won't have to watch it now...since we lost power I was waiting to see it on the web

I got mine this week. I wore them yesterday and people who had seem me the day before were asking if I went to the Olympics. It really cracked me up. Yeah, I flew up, bought some mittens and flew back
-
Happy Birthday DR Matthew~~
-
Vibes to all who need them~~~~~~~~

I ddn't have an Uncle Bob. Only an Uncle Jim.
-
Our power came back on at about 11:25 last night. I made the mistake when I called in to report it of requesting a call back when it was turned back on. Sort of a make sure it's really on feature. A computer called at 4:45 AM to tell me it was on. I flew out of bed.. a call at 4:45 AM is rarely good news. I was a bit irritated when I realized what it was. I will never choose that option again.
-
I have a cousin Bob.
On the other hand, I had an Aunt Jo and Uncle Gene (married to each other), which we always found tres amusant. ;)
-
My Uncle Bob was my mother's brother and he went to his grave thinking that our DS Rob was named for him.
-
I caught the interview with Evan & was very impressed with him & felt he showed true class. While Plushenko is whining (granted he has been fueled by others) Lysacek offered us a kinder view of Plushenko.

How horrible. 22 is very young to lose a parent, especially one she was so close to. I hope she finds the strength to do her best.
-
I don't have an Unce Bob. I don't have any uncles or aunts. It is tough enough having to be an Uncle Tom.
Vibes to elmore's Uncle Bob.
-
I'm enjoying TAR
-
Page four?
-
I am watching a very enjoyable motion picture in high definitions.
-
I'm relaxing and tired.
-
Good Evening!
I'm am watching "TAR" too.
-
And, yes, the USA v. Canada hockey game can be viewed on the web - after registering, of course.
-

Yes, there is not ONE single restaurant in the City of Studio that you can get into on a Sunday - EVER. bk - It's Sunday. No matter what city you are in, people eat out on Sundays - usually after church, or sleeping in after living it up on Saturday night. Waiting is normal - and means the restaurant is doing good business.
Suppose you snagged a table - a "one top" - at the last table in a place in Studio City. -Who would be thought of as "entitled" and "spoiled" now? ;)
*And just be thankful it wasn't Mother's Day. ::)
-
DR MattH - Welcome back from 2006! ;)

Doesn't everyone have an Uncle Bob?
My mother's younger brother who died last year in Ohio...I drove up there in a snowstorm for the funeral, hit something sharp on the hwy and blew a tire, had to stay over somewhere in Kentucky but made it there just in time.
Vibes for Larry and his uncle. I loved my Uncle Bob, he was a sweet, gentle, funny guy.
-
Happy Birthday to Matthew!!

Here I am with my partner Debbie! Our routine is done and we have five weeks to perfect it!
I think we can win without a quad! ;D
DR Jrand - Have you picked out your (matching) outfits yet?
-
I'm typing in the dark. A circuit blew on Friday and it's the one with all the useful lights and outlets. An electrician will come tomorrow; and Greg has narrowed down the problem in the meantime. Vibes we're empowered soon!
-
Earlier this week they had tons of the $10 Canada red olympic mittens (the ones oprah had). But they are all gone now. Apparently they had to ship them all to vancouver. I find this very odd. I guess there is a huge shortage there.
DR Cillaliz can now sell hers for $100 on ebay!
-
I must have wanted to be a conductor at the age of one year. I really have no ide how old i am in this photo.
DR elmore - That's a great pic! Is that a quasi-hobby-horse that you're sitting on?
-
Love the photos from JRand and the one of little Elmore!
-
DR Ben just sent me a delightful snippet from Radio Wales. I look forward to his reviews of the new shows!
-
I just shopped at Target for shower gifts - three of mum's great nieces are all getting married in the next four months - and picked up THE GODFATHER on blu-ray for 17.99! I may watch it tonight.

I read this this afternoon and was truly sorry for her. I'm glad she's going to continue to compete. She can skate for herself and in memory of her mother.
-
DR MATTH - those are some of my favorite episodes from Season One, as well.
Reading FLIGHTS OF FANTASY really put that crazy shooting schedule into perspective....I don't know how they kept everything straight!
Glad you enjoyed the book.
I'm in the appendix section now, but I really enjoyed both books, and I do thank you so much for recommending them. I had no idea they existed, and they fill in SO many gaps about the series' production. Really fascinating.
-
DR MattH - Welcome back from 2006! ;)
Glad to BE back. It's absurd, of course, that I let these memory hogging HD programs sit on my DVR for four years, but truthfully, when I needed to find something to watch for 10 minutes before something I wanted to see began, they were convenient programs to switch on and just watch skating for 10 minutes or so. And since there were skaters I was pulling for and definitely a skater I was pulling against, I was not anxious to let these programs go without keeping them on some kind of media platform.
-
Well, I ended up back at Lincoln Center earlier today for the matinee of the New York City Ballet's "All Robbins" program. The first half consisted of "Dances at a Gathering" choreographed to a series of piano pieces by Chopin - which were played brilliantly by Cameron Grant. The second half was the "West Side Story Suite" which is basically a 45-minute version of West Side Story. It sure was nice to see the true, original choreography from/for West Side Story again (with some necessary modifications for dramatic flow). -And it was also nice to see that some of dancers did their own singing. -Five offstage singers are used to help "round out" the sound.
*And I still start to get teary-eyed whenever that bassoon figure starts at the top of the ("Maria") "Cha-Cha".
-
I began my evening by watching THE READER, one of the big award-winning films for 2008. I have to say I greatly enjoyed it, far more than SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE which won the Oscar for Best Picture or FROST/NIXON which I saw last night. I got very wrapped up in this curious story and found it beautifully told.
I'm still not sure I would have given Winslet the Oscar over Meryl Streep, but it's apples and oranges. They're both wonderous performances.
-
Next, since I had also recorded this last night, I watched the recent remake of THE TAKING OF PELHAM 1 2 3. The film didn't need remaking, and this version seemed padded and drawn out. I found Travolta completely absurd. Washington was slumming even though I know he's a great friend and fan of Tony Scott's. The ending was complete rubbish.
-
Oh, my, aborigines on ice :o
I think that was the first time I've ever felt truly uncomfortable watching The Olympics. :-\

DR MattH - I forget/lost track - Have you seen "Revolutionary Road" yet?
-
I only had about 20 minutes left in the evening, so I started flipping through the free On Demand movies and came across A TALE OF TWO CITIES, the 1958 version with Dirk Bogarde which DR JRand recommended a week or so ago. I was up to my eyeballs with work then and didn't have the DVR space to spare to record it when it last came on TCM, but here it is On Demand, so I started watching it. I only got about 15 minutes into it, but I should have time to finish it tomorrow.
So far, it's OK. The introduction by the TCM alternate host mentioned only CHristopher Lee being a familiar face to viewers. When I saw the cast list, I saw at least half a dozen familiar names in the cast. Did he not consider DOnald Pleasance a familiar name?

Yes, I did see it. Very melodramatic, but Winslet gave a wonderful performance, possibly better than in THE READER.

YEAH!
I just scored tickets to tomorrow's taping of "The Daily Show" via Twitter. HOO and RAY!
:)

DR MattH - I forget/lost track - Have you seen "Revolutionary Road" yet?
Yes, I did see it. Very melodramatic, but Winslet gave a wonderful performance, possibly better than in THE READER.
That's what I was wondering about: what you thought about Kate Winslet's performance(s). I thought she should have won for that one too. -And I still think it was a crime that Leonardo di Caprio was not nommed.
-
Oh, my, aborigines on ice :o
I think that was the first time I've ever felt truly uncomfortable watching The Olympics. :-\
Perhaps if I had been drinking this would all make sense.
-
Oh, my, aborigines on ice :o
I just finished watching the short program & thought they changed the costume.
-
So...
Should I change the spelling of my name to "H-O-S-E"?
;)
-
Earlier this week they had tons of the $10 Canada red olympic mittens (the ones oprah had). But they are all gone now. Apparently they had to ship them all to vancouver. I find this very odd. I guess there is a huge shortage there.
DR Cillaliz can now sell hers for $100 on ebay!
LOL! Actually they are the warmest mittens I've ever had, fleece lined knit mittens. I won't be parting with them, I'll be wearing them!

Only if you are one of the US Americans in our nation who doesn't have a map

I just shopped at Target for shower gifts - three of mum's great nieces are all getting married in the next four months - and picked up THE GODFATHER on blu-ray for 17.99! I may watch it tonight.
What an interesting shower gift!

I think "Dances At A Gathering" is the most moving and stunning ballet I have ever seen. Ut moved me to tears with its beauty and mysterious finish.
As for the photo of me at the age of one or so, i don't know what the hell I am sitting/riding on. The only toy I have a memory of from the three years we lived with my grandmother at 711 Tenth Avenue is a Cowboy Copas doll I dearly loved. I left it outside one night and the rain destroyed it.
-
Really enjoyed the Ice Dancing. I found it interesting that the people dancing to US Country music were from other countries. MBarnum, one of the US teams skated to music from India. Apparently they studied Indian dance and their costumes were authentic.
-
Well, you looked very cute DR Elmore. Vibes to your Uncle Bob

DR JOSE - I will be wearing the requisite Saturday Night Fever white three piece suit with black shirt and gold bling.
Debbie has yet to choose her outfit.
I did neglect to mention that Debbie is and Elementary School Principal and she is the mother of 6 year old TRIPLETS!
-
I really like Bode Miller. That is all
-
Jrand - I first read that as 6 week old triplets and was amazed and shocked. Then I re-read it - still quite amazing but not in the same way
-
I finally found out that it was a transformer that blew a few blocks from here last night that caused the power outage. Apparently some were without power until 4:30 AM (mine was back on at 11:30) that explains the call at 4:45 AM.
-
I have now watched the two 1996 versions of EMMA, the Gwyneth Paltrow one (yuch!) and the A&R/BBC version with Kate Beckinsale, which I think has the best cast, and as I watched it, I kept wishing this cast was doing the 4-hour 2009 adaptation. The only person I think is better in the new version than in any other is Rupert Evans as Frank Churchill. Ewan MacGregor looks terrible in that wig and the A&E actor looks like a MacGregor impersonator.
I much prefer Beckinsale to Romola Garai and I think Gwyneth Paltrow is photographed unflatteringly; some of her hairstyles are truly scary, and I think she looks too old. I really like Mark Strong over Jonny Lee Miller as Knightley, but I think both are preferable to Jeremy Northam, who's a little too coy and cute for my taste. I love Toni Colette, who's very good but I think she looks far too old and husky as the waif Harriet Smith; Samantha Morton in the A&E version is the best Harriet and the actreess from the new one is alsoreally goodin the role. As to the horrible Mrs Elton, it's A&E hands down with Lucy Robinson, and maybe Juliet Stevenson coming in second in the Paltrow version. The Paltrow movie is longer than the A&E, but Andrew Davies, who did the screenplay for the Jennifer Ehle-Colin Firth PRIDE & PREJUDICE, gets more of the novel into his adaptation. I think I have to watch P&P again now.
I also liked the use of the servants in the A&E rendition: they hardly exist in the Paltrow version, and in the A&E they're seen doing all the work while the upper classes laze about and make fools of themselves and each other.
-
Thanks, Cillaliz.
-
No problem, Laura.

Glint of Gold Never Left Orsers Eyes (http://www.nytimes.com/2010/02/21/sports/olympics/21orser.html?ref=sports)
Thanks for that link. Orser was always a fine skater, and I think the tragedy was his not winning in 1984 when he twice outskated Scott Hamilton in the short and long (who had been reigning world champion for three years). I always felt they GAVE Hamilton the gold based on his reputation alone because his Olympic free skate was really poor.
I continue to believe that it should not have been that close between Orser and Boitano for the gold in 1988 (down to the artistic score of one judge; they were otherwise tied). Boitano landed two triple axles to Orser's one, and Orser did trip on that triple flip. Boitano didn't have a single flub in his program, and for me was also more artistic (he skated in a military style as did Orser).

Well, I have to call it a night, because tomorrow I have to get up early to go get my Mom's grocery list, go to Kenwood Towne Center to meet some friends at the Vera Bradley store, then shop for Mom's groceries and take them to her before doing my own grocery shopping.
'night!

Cillaliz, here is an article for you:

You're welcome, DR MattH. I thought you might like to read that.
-
Looks like a day off for me unless Disney send out PONYO tomorrow. They're often sent out near the end of the week and don't arrive on this coast until Monday, so if it comes by 1:30, I'll watch it. If not, I'll have the day off.
-
And in other news...
I'm really tired and sleepy already... And I feel a cold a-comin' on, so... Sleep is good.
Goodnight.
-
You're welcome, DR MattH. I thought you might like to read that.
Oh, yes, I had noticed he was the coach for several skaters. I didn't realize he coached the world champion. Good for her and for him! She's SO talented, and I wish her the best. If she skates to her potential, it won't be much of a contest.
-
Now I'm going to turn stuff off up here and head downstairs to go to bed.
Good night!

We have lots of whackos here.

Back from printing the book, delivering CDs and some breakfast at Marie Callender's, which is the ONLY place I could actually get into without waiting. Yes, there is not ONE single restaurant in the City of Studio that you can get into on a Sunday - EVER. So, I drove to Burbank and apparently in Burbank they're not quite as entitled or spoiled as they are in Studio City.
bk - It's Sunday.
Well, that's not quite accurate because I snagged a very nice table with no wait by driving to Burbank. Apparently they eat out there, too, but not to the extreme of the very spoiled and very entitled Studio City denizens.

I saw this same program at Lincoln Center about eleven years ago - it was brilliant.
-
I think I've finished viewing for the evening. I started a second motion picture but was dozing off, so I'll watch it tomorrow night.
-
Someone is reading about - wait for it - Deceit. If only the play had been as popular there as it is on this here site.
-
I'm just sitting here like so much fish.
-
I had a weird omelet thing at Marie Callender's. I cannot recommend breakfast there. But I did have a small salad with ranch and they do have the best ranch anywhere.
-
Cranberries.
-
Nut clusters.
-
Post deleted.
-
I think I'll just make another 100 posts all by myself.
-
Will we never get to page eight.
-
I had some carrots this evening and some pistachio nuts. Sometimes you feel like a nut, sometimes you don't.
-
What, me worry?

-
I made it through half of THE GODFATHER. Now I am enjoying a bowl of Total cereal with - - - wait for it - - - CRANBERRIES!
-
Me worry, what?

I am sleepy....so I think I shall sleep. I have a number of appointments tomorrow, but this week is mostly an office week and I am very excited about that. This is ususally the week I travel somewhere, whether for fun or to a meeting, but I'm not doing that this year, so it's nice to have what may be a little lower key week where I can relax a bit and catch up.
-
I am sleepy and yet I shall not sleep.
-
I wonder how much an impact on posting habits on this here site Facebook has been? For example, I notice our very own Pogue doing a storm of one update after another on Facebook and now only rare appearances here. Maybe we should just make a haineshisway Facebook page.
-
If anyone went toThe Broadway Sensation competition. The winner Cassie Wooly is from Sioux City. There was an article about her in the SCJournal today http://www.siouxcityjournal.com/entertainment/local/article_0e78b65b-5365-56f4-937f-43b79b0c1ad0.html (http://www.siouxcityjournal.com/entertainment/local/article_0e78b65b-5365-56f4-937f-43b79b0c1ad0.html)

Let's not forget the impact of tax season - oh wait, i guess that's only me.

Pogue, it is quite a big package or so I've been told by those in the know.

My Uncle Bob, my mother's youngest brother, is in hospital. I suspect that he is dying; he's 80 years old and in terrible shape. I thought he would be dead a year ago at this time but his body was not ready to let go. When I saw him in December 2008, he told me he'd been seeing his late wife and his mother, and I think they've been waiting for him. When I was born, he and my Uncle Paul were on the Middletown High School football team, and I have very vague memories of beng passed around the team like a football when they hung out at my grandmother's. Bob also dated one of the McGuire Sisters in high school, Phyllis, I think.
He could use some vibes. i'm praying for a quick and peaceful death.

Oh, my, aborigines on ice :o
I think that was the first time I've ever felt truly uncomfortable watching The Olympics. :-\
I saw a little bit of it earlier :-X, but haven't watched the whole thing yet. I recorded tonight's Olympics while watching "Desperate Housewives" and "Brothers & Sisters." I'm watching the Olympics now and have just gotten to the brother and sister Canadian ice dancers who skated to the Johnny Cash song.
-
Okay, they're up now.
-
They weren't bad, but really liked the Bollywood dance better.
