Title: AN ANCIENT ARTIFACT FROM A DIFFERENT ERA

Well, you've read the notes, the notes were ancient, and now it is time for you to post until the ancient cows come home.

Wednesday morning greetings!  I have a doctor's appointment this morning (routine check) after which Richard and I are going to dinner in Lexington, KY, with our very own DR Jose!  My camera is already in my purse.

Good morning, all! I am waiting to hear from Mr Kevin Spirtas. If things go well, I will see him, turn over this music for his upcoming Bocca Raton gig, catch up on things, and head off for other tasks. I'll call him after 9 am.

Ms Kuhn has a second album! If I had known, since I believe it was recorded in 2007, I guess I forgot about it as quickly as she forgot I'd worked on her "Just In Time" album. I still like "You'll Never Get Away From Me," which is on my demo CD.

DR Jose, since you posted the comment after I'd left the site and couldn't respond last night, the answer to "would you have accepted his [apology]" is yes.

Anything Judy Kuhn does is fine with me. Was listening to "Allegro" last night just to hear her version of "So Far." The Laura Nyro album you refer is good, especially if you like Nyro's songs.

Thank you, DR John G. I'm remaining sardonic as ever, but not much good is occurring. There's been no response from my brother over his real estate gaffe and my frustration over being saddled with a piece of land I have no control over, I'm still bummed - and will be for some time - over the strife at/from the LoC, and life at Toyland could be better and less frustrating. We'll see what fresh hell today brings.

Spotted spottings. We were in a jeep about 300 yards from this tree in the Okavango Delta when our guide spotted this leopard mother lounging in the tree. I probably took more than 100 photos (ain't digital cameras great!), but she was so full from dinner, she rarely looked up. This is one of only three or four I have with her eyes open.

My 2 previous favorites (andrew garcia and casey (kara's boy) were just okay.

But my new favorite is Alex Lambert. He was so nervous and awkward last week. But this week he was the standout. And i love the tone of his voice!

I am also liking lee Dewyze.

But still there are so many who could just go now.

DR EVIL KURT is going to Chicago for the second weekend, and I am gone for most of the first weekend.....however, the first Sunday matinee on April 11 at 2:30, finds us both available.  8)

Good morning!

The snow was about half gone by this morning, and walking was no trouble (except for a couple of icy spots at the bridge). I overdressed for the cold, too. I didn't need the heavy jacket I was wearing. A lighter one would have been fine.

Today my work project is a B-movie called BITCH SLAP. Looks like it was made as sleazy and gross as possible since the liner notes seem to revel in its over-the-top aspects.

I am honestly dreading having to sit through this (if I'm to believe the cover, there is a COMMENTARY with this). SOmetimes this job is NOT fun.

I liked STARGATE just fine when I saw it at the theater, and I have it on DVD which is good enough. It looks great upconverted, and since I don't watch it often, there is no need for me to invest in the Blu-ray.

In the second, Christopher Meloni is reunited with his old OZ bedmate/soulmate Lee Tergesen that I'll be interested in recording.

I love Judy Kuhn's voice and ultimately enjoyed doing her CD.  She is a bit of a pill, which is why I haven't used her on any other CDs since doing the album.  I did invite her to join in on The Stephen Schwartz Album CD and she said yes and was slated to do Meadowlark.  Because of my arrangement (starting the song slow and rubato, which was the first time that approach had been taken) she was concerned about the tempo of the rubato, since we were recording the band in LA.  The musical director worked with her very carefully on it and took precise metronome markings for the feel and tempo of that section.  We recorded it that way.  She heard the track and said she could not sing to that rubato section, even though we'd done exactly what she'd rehearsed.  She dropped out two days before the session.  Thankfully, Susan Egan was in town, learned it, and gave an amazing performance of the song.

I like the album a lot. It isn't my fault that she never acknowledged my work on the album and that she has snubbed me several times in the past 10 years. I did a lot to save that album and I really liked working with Michael Skloff. Since a lot of the work I get comes from singers I've worked with before, I'd bet good money I'll never see a phone call about a job from Ms Kuhn.

BK - Not a frenzy of posts, just literally a mental frenzy.  I find his inability to separate the play form his view of the production scary.  He's making believe via fantasy that he's a real reviewer, yet has none of the attendant journalistic responsibility - he behaves like a "critic" when he wants, and seems to hide behind being just a poster on ATC when that suits him.  which is smart, but doesn't seem right somehow.

No word from Mr Spirtas yet, and I cannot waste my day waiting for him.

So, I guess I will hit the post office for a package, and then head down to the NYPL to see what Herbert materials I can find. After that, a rehearsal with bass Valerian Ruminsky, whom I've not seen since London, 2001, when we recorded the still-unreleased BABES IN TOYLAND.

Am at work for the first day this week.  Woke up Sunday with "major" sinus flow and flu-like symptoms.

Sicker on Monday...and yesterday wasn't a picnic, although I began feeling better in the afternoon and felt nearly almost, but not quite, my usual self by bedtime.

We shall see what we shall see as the day progresses.

The day here is drear....most drear....decidedly drear.

Rain, rain and more rain.   We haven't had such rains since 8 or 9 years ago.

Yep he was a wreck last week.  You would not believe how much he improved. All the judges agreed.  They could not believe he was the same guy.

In his chat piece he said he had basically no experience on stage and that he threw up last week prior to going on stage. So i think a lot of it was his nerves and inexperience. I expect him to be one of the final guys standing.

I can't keep track of who my little "fans" are - dcb is definitely one - always misrepresenting what I post, and when I correct, always disappears without a word.  These people are beyond pathetic and that goes for Jesse21.  If I were Ann I would preclude him from making those "review" posts the way he does - they have a reviewer and he reviews under his full name.  It's only the other amateurs who defend him - for we do live in the time of the amateur.

Japan was 1985, one of the few Middfest's for which I did not volunteer in some capacity, because it was just a month after the birth of our DS Rob.

Middfest organizers are trying to create some interest in Botswana by encouraging the reading of the #1 Ladies' Detective series.  My book group is reading the first book in the series in April and meeting at my house to discuss it and to watch a DVD called "Botswana: In the Footsteps of the No. 1 Ladies' Detective with Alexander McCall Smith."  He will be speaking at Cincinnati's Joseph-Beth Booksellers on April 21 and Middfest is co-sponsoring the event.

Then I watched BITCH SLAP. Well, it wasn't sleazy, and the director, writers, and producers all had their hearts in the right place wanting to do an homage to the old Roger Corman movies like FASTER PUSSYCAT, KILL KILL.

But the movie was just TOO long so they could have several catfights, some girl-on-girl sex scenes, several beatdowns of various men, and lots of surprise revelations and discoveries.

It was all shot with an HD camera so it looked very nice even on its super low budget.

I was wrong about their being a commentary...

There were TWO commentaries! One by the production team and one by the three female co-stars of the film. Very much overkill, especially since the only other bonus on the disc was a making of documentary which was 99 1/2 minutes long covering much of what is said in the commentaries.

Sorry if that were unclear. The guide spotted her from 300 yards away, then we drove up to about 20 away for the pictures. Many of the cats we saw -- lions and cheetahs -- were often within reach of our vehicles. It was great to see them up close.

DR JohnG - I'm enjoying your photos because there's some Botswana interest stirring here in SW Ohio due to that country being selected as the feature for 2010's Middfest International.
I remember that festival. Back in the 1980s, when I lived in Middletown, there was one on Japan. First time I ever tried sushi, as I recall. I really enjoyed the event.
Don't know if you read them or watch the series, but the "No. 1 First Ladies Detective Agency" is set there. They're are quite enjoyable.

Sounds like a fun festival. I hope my library picks up the documentary.

I was asked to befriend a person I know of, not know personally.  She is causing a friend of mine a good amount of grief & obviously browsing my friend's friends & inviting them to be her friend.

I clicked on "ignore" & was then given a choice of options, "spam" or "ignore".  Which should I do?

I've usually chosen "ignore," since it's not really spam.  It's a real person with some connection to someone you know, not a come-on to join a separate (usually porn) website.

I'm tiiiiired.  I've just finished prepping the new Kritzerland release.  Happily, one of this morning's e-mails was the lightening quick approval, so that was very heartening.  I've written blurb and sent it and the mp3 sound samples to the designer.  We're announcing next week, but I'll probably give the advance here on Friday at midnight or Saturday at midnight.  It's a great score to a great and beloved film by a great director, featuring great stars.

Since the two people ARE NOT friends there really shouldn't be a connection.  It is more like stalking.  That is why I thought spam might be more appropriate here.

I did see that.  When we went to Alaska we hit hurricane like winds.  There were people posted at the doors to keep us from going outside.  At first I thought people were on deck when the waves hit, how scary they were inside.  At least I think they were inside.

Jane, isn't there a way to un-ignore?  Maybe you could do that then re-ignore and select the reason. ;)

I think once you ignore someone, they disappear.

Wouldn't it be nice if real life was like that?

*The woman at the chocolate shop will probably give you this information, but just in case she doesn't - The have three different types of Bourbon Chocolates.  From weakest to strongest, they are: the standard Bourbon Chocolates (cream filling), Chocolate-Covered Bourbon Cherries (the cherries have been soaked in bourbon for 11-13 months), and the Bourbon Truffles. ;)

But the person can choose to Friend you again, so...

*I usually write back to an "unknown" person who wants to Friend me that I only Friend people I've met in person or have just one degree of separation from. Seems to work. I don't "collect" friends.

Remember how I used to complain about all the whores wanting to be friends on MySpace? Well, they're moving to Facebook. I've turned down a couple of young ladies in the past month, and today I turned down a young man who told me he liked older men! If any DRs want to meet him, I'll send you the info!

Yep, the spambots have been making their way over to Facebook lately.  Alas, what some people don't realize is that some of those Quizzes, Clubs, "Fun Applications" and "Farms" are actually email phishing scams.  If one person clicks "Accept", well... It's just like that classic shampoo commercial... and so on, and so on, and so on...

DR JoseSPiano:  LOVED the quote about "the key of Bea Arthur".   I'll bet Bea was roaring over that one from wherever she is right now.

:)

I hope she was too.  -Especially since that was meant as a compliment - the musical director wanted to hear the low(er) range of the actress.

Did everyone hear about the cruise ship in the  Mediterranean that was struck by three huge waves?  Two people dead and six injured.  It was supposedly off of Barcelona, so it was in the same area that I was cruising.  It was also about the same size ship as the Insignia.

Those same storms caused some major damage and deaths along the coast of France too.  The Earth is not a happy campground right now.

No, no skylight, but no one can see in the windows on the south side of the house, and if I leave the shades up, I can see the stars.  It's really cool.  I put clean linens and blankets on the bed tonight. I need to do a really good cleaning before I stay there.
