TOD:
I'm 69 years old. How am I supposed to remember my first hamburger?
:P
Speaking of journals, I'm just about finished THE RED LEATHER DIARY by Lily Koppel. I had started it about a year ago but misplaced it on a weekend trip (it was just returned to me.) What a wonderful book! I've always had a strong affinity for the early 30's, especially involving Manhattan and its environs--I really do think I lived there in my previous life. I think a couple of peeps here have also read this book. I recommend it highly.
DR DRUXY.....Gerald Mohr starred with Miss Allison Hayes in a couple of television things back in the day. ;D
I am ready to DISCO in this photo, but if I rotate myself, I am squished....so turn your monitor on its left side to property view me. ::)
Does couple take a singular or plural verb?

Have any of our tv schedule posters mentioned CRIMINAL INTENT starts its new season tonight? It looks like maybe Goren bites the dust from the trailers they've been showing. Of course it's already been announced D'Onofrio and Erbe are both leaving the show.

And the word of the day is: Chevron!
As for the Topic of the Day...Pickled beets on a burger -- perfection.
I'm guessing my first hamburger was probably from McDonald's or Roy Rogers. Or it could have been cooked on the grill in the backyard of our house on Walter Reed Drive in Arlington, VA.
Like DR John G, I also like a fried egg on my burger from time to time, but usually with a slice of pickled beet on it too - it's a very Australian thing. Otherwise: bacon, bleu cheese, caramelized onions, sauteed mushrooms, bread & butter pickles, swiss cheese, etc., etc., etc....
I'm trying to think of my current favorite burger in New York City, but no particular burger/restaurant is coming to mind. However, I can't really think of a burger I really don't like in New York City.

Speaking of Gerald Mohr, a fine working actor, I just saw him in an episode of a really terrible tv series from 1961/62 called KING OF DIAMONDS. The show starred Brod. Crawford and a one (non) hit wonder named Jay Hamilton whose career began in 1961 and ended in 1962. I am pretty certain Jay was one of Henry Willson's clients.

Broderick Crawford.
He was a very nice, very gentle man.
So unlike his screen image.

...and, most importantly, ( ;D) he was Frances Farmer's love interest in BADLANDS OF DAKOTA. In fact one of the lines that got the biggest laugh in our read-through of my Farmer-Garland musical STARCROSSED was Frances saying that playing a love scene with Crawford was what led to her drinking problem. :)

I have a quick question for y'all:
Which Jerry Lewis movie contained a scene of him undressing (having been disguised as a woman) and removing a brassier that contained two large oranges?
I need this vital piece of information for a Twitterplay I'm writing...

DR DtM - seems to me it was SCARED STIFF wherein Mr Lewis impersonated Carmen Miranda. This was a Martin and Lewis movie from the Stone Age.
Changed my monitor settings and lost several pounds in the standing up photo.

I enjoy watching him, particularly in HIGHWAY PATROL.
DR Druxy, did you ever meet actors William Boyett or Jack Hogan?
I've got to work on my big line for the seder, echoing the son of a dear friend, who said "Would someone please pass the neurosis?"
(instaed of charoses. the reason it's funny is - )

Me, too. As much as I like to help folks when one of these cinema questions comes up, if it's Jerry Lewis oriented, I can be of NO help. I stopped watching him when he and Dean went their separate ways. I did see HARDLY WORKING because I had to review it, but all of those hits he churned out in the late 1950s and 1960s, I never saw a single one of them and never wanted to.
Of course we are very excited to have Butler University in the World Series and wish them all the best.
Butler University is the home of much of my post graduate Dance Education!

TOD - I just made burgers for our "Welcome Home, Rob!" dinner last night. We use Laura's Lean ground round and grill them on our George Foreman grill.
My favorite fast food burger is Culver's Butter Burger, especially when followed by a small caramel cashew sundae made with their vanilla frozen custard. Also, in Lima, there's a famous burger place called Kewpie that Richard likes because he can get a burger with his favorite topping - chopped green olives.
Back from the dry cleaners and picking up clothes, the mail place and picking up mail (and a package), and did some work on the blocking, but I need to do the rest while I'm with my assistant so I can verbalize the bigger scenes and have her write down stuff.
The package contained Blu and Rays of John Woo's The Killer and An Education.

Maybe he looked too much like Bogart...when Bogart was still around.

Having actually seen most of Jerry's output, I'll stick up for him. Several of his solo films are hilarious and wonderfully done.
DR Jane - Does your cellphone have a camera? ;)
Jerry Lewis was wonderful in "King of Comedy," not a typical Jerry Lewis movie. Also liked DeNiro, Sandra Bernhard, Shelley Hack and Dianne Abbott as well as the soundtrack.

John G, cream of wheat tasting matzo ball soup? I find this & your mother's soup intriguing. She would make balls of cream of wheat and float them in the soup. They were similar in texture to the matzo balls. Plus the broth was chicken.

How many pages is it? I'm looking for small, as in lightweight, books to check out from the library.

There's a folk song about an unhappy unwanted pregnancy: "Once I Wore My apron Low." I don't think it's qite right.

DR Jane, the paperback is over 300 pages, but the copy I have is made of amazingly light paper--the book is not at all heavy.

I saw a very interesting movie if you are at all interested in fashion. The documentary THE SEPTEMBER ISSUE. It was so well done it did not really remind me of a documentary at all. It features Anna Wintour (Vogue). But it also stars someone who I had never seen on screen before, Grace Coddington (creative director of Vogue). I love her! Very good movie. I really enjoyed it.
Jerry's film GEISHA BOY is very touching and is one of my all time favorite movies.
It has been so many years since I have seen any of the other Jerry Lewis solo movies, that I couldn't tell you if they were enjoyable (to me) or not.
Next I watched last night's DAMAGES. There are only three episodes left now in the season, the show's best. I have to say this season now has three sets of parents being really horrible and dishonest with their kids, all to amazing effect.

Clarify please....Are you saying the paperback isn't heavy or the hardcover? If I get it from the library it will likely be a hard copy.
I do not remember a time without hamburger...nor can I imagine a world without it ;)

Just saw last night's ratings. CASTLE once again achieved its highest ever rating last night and led all programs at 10 p.m. It was helped along by a very strong DANCING WITH THE STARS lead-in, but it's obvious the show is growing in popularity since it didn't get these kinds of ratings last year even it followed this same show.
As a result, ABC has renewed CASTLE for next season, a full 22-episode season order! Hooray!

Today, I ushered for the touring production of Cats, and it was the very first time that I've seen it. I have the DVD and I had (:'() several recordings, but I'd never actually seen the show live. I have to say that I enjoyed it very much! A couple of the dancers weren't quite as good as the rest (but they were still pretty good) and all of the singers (and singing) were very good. They didn't do "The Aweful Battle of the Pekes and the Pollicles," but it was a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon of mindless entertainment. Today's performance was an added show AFTER they practically sold out last night and tonight's shows.
