Title: I FEEL A SONG COMING ON

Well, you've read the notes, the notes felt a song coming on, and now it is time for you to post until the singing cows come home.

From yesterday:
OK - this is about to go viral, so I can tell you all that, as of last Thursday (yes, April Fool's Day), Rob and Mary Linda are engaged:

The Big Announcement (http://secure.smilebox.com/ecom/openTheBox?sendevent=4d5455354e7a51314d7a4e384d7a55304d4451774d54513d0d0a&sb=1)

They will probably wait to get married until Rob finishes his paramedic training next summer (2011).

Congrats to Ginny's DS Rob and soon-to-be daughter-in-law Mary Linda!

Also from yesterday:
And speaking of Mt. Rainier...

Although I can't make it out there for Brain, it does look like I'll finally be paying a visit to my aunt in Seattle sometime this summer, since my cousin will be getting married. -I haven't been back to Seattle since I was 9-years old.

Cool!  And maybe if you have time, you could get together with the PNW HHW Contingent while you are out here.

Good morning, all! I was so wound up after last night's show that I stayed up way too long: about 12:30 or so, and now I am getting ready for another round of the McGlinnventory this morning. Most of yesterday was sorting through cartons of DATs, Reei ro Reel tapes, audiocassettes and videotapes, and I suspect today will be more of the same. I ran across lots of cassettes of New Amsterdam Theatre Co. performances that I had duped for John aroubnd 1987, and there are a ton of unmarked items we need to look at or listen to once we have enough space to assemble all of his sound equipment.

For me, the great find yesterday was a live performance CD and audiocassette  of Victor Herbert's one-act Wagnerian parody THE MAGIC KNIGHT from the Edinburgh Festival around 1994. I had helped John copy parts for the piece in the early 1990s and I had been hoping we would find the source for the cassette John had given me after the Edinburgh Festival performances. There are several pirated copies floating around in poor sound. I knew that John had a good live performance tape but I had no idea where it might be. The CD jewel case for for the CD was empty and mangled when we ran across it about a month ago, and the CD we found yesterday was lying unprotected amidst a pile of broken plastic and tapes hastily tossed into a carton. Luckily, it had no damage and sounds great. I'm guessing McGlinn's source is an archival house recording. So many of the Edinburgh Festival opera performances are broadcast by the BBC that I suspect each venue has a good sound system.

DR Ginny, tell Rob and Mary Linda that I am very happy for them!

I need my breakfast before I head off to the inventory.

The last movie I saw was THE HURT LOCKER. I think it's the most tense film I have ever seen and I liked it very much. I never want to see it again.

I saw Alice in Wonderland. I sort of enjoyed it (Merrily).

I so rarely see movies (I think 99.99% of what's out there is unmitigated crap and I'm not going to spend $12.75 or more to see it) that I can't even begin to answer the question

TOD:

The last movies we watched were THE BLIND SIDE, THE MEN WHO STARE AT GOATS and AN EDUCATION.

GOATS had some issues, but we really enjoyed them all.

We spent the past few days watching the complete series of STUDIO 60 ON THE SUNSET STRIP.

Excellent writing and direction, endearing characters.  It's too bad that it didn't succeed.

Congrats to Rob and Mary Linda.

Sorry to hear that DR JANE has an M & M monkey on her back.

DR CILLA LIZ only has pickup once a week....as do we.  But our pick up doesn't happen until about 2 p.m. in the afternoon, so I don't have to get up early to make it happen.

Lovely photo from DR TCB....mountains and flowers, mountains and flowers.....she might do better with a heavy veil.....a HELLO, DOLLY! reference.

If that is confirmed for you MR BK, I will be glad to let the cast know you are coming and arrange the tickets for you (tell me if you need more than one).  Bryan and I are still planning to go on Sunday....so I will get a preview.

And then one more day....one day more.

Well i checked and mine are made by hershey's. But they look exactly like the ones you have pictured here.
Although i'm not sure if these ones would be hard peanut butter (mine are hard) vs the more softer peanut butter filling of what is usually in reese's.

The hard peanut butter is basically the same texture as the hard chocolate in the regular milk chocolate filled hard shelled eggs.

And the link you provided last night for the Lindt white chocolate eggs is the exact yellow package i have.

You mentioned that you found them the same as the non easter chocolate balls they sell.

I actually found the outside chocolate to be softer than the balls. And i've never tasted white on white balls. Only milk chocolate outside with white inside. Although they probably make the white on white, i've just never seen them.

I have a question for those who are fans of the show.  I'm wondering what you think would be a satisfying ending in terms of betty's career and love life. I thought it was interesting that they showed Geo (sp?) and Henry. I always thought that henry was the one for her. But it totally did not work last night.  I am curious if they will even bring back cal's son (forget his name). I am also curious if people would like to see betty end up with daniel.  I don't read spoilers so don't want to know till i watch. But last night they implied that this could be the way they go. I'd have to see it played out. But right now i think it is a terrible idea. They have never shown these two to have any romantic feelings towards each other. And they make the most wonderful best friends. Also i wonder if betty would actually move to london. That could have been a good way to end the show.

I don't like RED GARTERS very much. As an experiment in design and color, it's certainly interesting, but I don't find most of the music very memorable. I do like looking at Guy Mitchell, of course.

DR Jennifer:

This is not a spoiler because I have no idea how UGLY BETTY ends, but in the original Colombian version of the series, Betty and her boss do end up together. But that really doesn't signal anything because the American BETTY is very, very different from its original counterpart.

I haven't watched last night's show yet, but I had read about the possible hook-up with Daniel months ago when the show was given a cancellation notice. ABC also reduced the number of episodes from its original 22 down to 20, so the producers and writers had to do some fancy shifting of ideas to fit all that plot they were going to have in the two lost episodes into the final few they had yet to produce.

I really do not go out of my way to go to the movies any more. They're noisy, they're expensive, they're inconvenient to get to, and I can enjoy the films a few months later in the comfort of my own home with sterling picture and sound, something not always offered at the cinema (I'll never forget how terrible BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN looked and sounded, and I was at the first screeing of it here. Universal had obviously sent a print that had played somewhere else previously thinking it wouldn't be a big hit, but it was incredibly scratched and marked, and the sound was spotty).

The last film I saw at the theater was last summer when my friend Hal and I went to HARRY POTTER AND THE HALF BLOOD PRINCE. We'll likely go to the first part of THE DEATHLY HALLOWS this fall when it premieres since it's a ritual with us. But if we don't, I'll certainly have the Blu-ray of it early in 2011.

It's the 100th episode of BONES tonight, and the show flashes back to Booth and Bones' first case together (not the case in the pilot which I had heretofore thought was their first case.) Can't wait to see this. Zach is back which should be lots of fun since he and Hodgins had such a amicable bromance.

No UPS delivery (I'm still waiting on COCOON). I liked it more when I reviewed it years ago than bk obviously did, but certainly the older generation of actors put the younger generation to shame.

I'm looking forward to seeing it again. I don't even have a DVD copy of the movie. For some reason, I've never bought one even though I did like the movie and found it funny and touching.

Don't have time to get to the movie theater much anymore. In the past year, I think I've seen about five movies and two were work-related ("Julie & Julia," "Food, Inc.").

I really liked "Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call, New Orleans" despite its horrible title. The movie is due out on DVD this week, I think. It has a great hallucinatory feel and Nicholas Cage's performance is fearless.

One of the others in that mix was the odd film of "Forever Plaid," which I saw on an opening night simulcast, like the Metropolitan Operas. It was followed by a strange performance of the Plaids with Carol Channing that I hope is included as an extra on the DVD.

That said, I will be going to the theater this weekend. We're finally getting "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo." I loved the book and can't wait to see what was done to make it work on the big screen.

I interviewed Rosemary Clooney a number of times back in the early 80s when she was beginning a comeback. She would visit her old home state, Kentucky, often and I ended up talking with her about every time she was scheduled to perform. This was before the mass video craze, and I asked her about "Red Garters," which she felt was more fun than good. I think that summed up my response when I finally saw it years later.

I watch SHERLOCK HOLMES the other night.  Utterly entertaining and also utter tosh!  Predictable plot (figured out the major twist before there was one).  Does not allow the audience to play detective along with Holmes.  Nor is there anything about the movie that distinguishes it as Sherlock Holmes.  It could have been any Victorian detective and his sidekick solving this mystery.  Rather like Jude Law's Watson more than Downey's Sherlock.  Sherlock is indulgent and self-absorbed, but not in the way Downey (or the script ) made him.  It also falls victim to what too many movies do these days...louder, bigger, and overwrought with CGI and special effects. I think drama is still about people.

Saw MEN WHO STARE AT GOATS.  Found it amusing and laughed a lot.  Enjoyed all the actors.  Story peters out a bit at the end.  Most amazing is the true stuff it's based on.

Best thing I've seen lately is a documentary about playwright John Osborne called JOHN OSBORNE AND THE GIFT OF FRIENDSHIP.  Absolutely mesmerizing!  The more I read by and about Osborne, the more I want to read.  A fascinating artist!

Actually, they did that "romantic feelings" thing through last night's episode.  Every time Daniel looked at Betty it was as if he were seeing her for the first time.  None of Betty's past boyfriends would make a satisfying ending to me.  I think Daniel WILL be the one...although whether it's for romance or whether it's for a closer professional relationship, I cannot say.  Oh, no! I cannot say.  But...we shall see.  Oh, yes! We shall see!  As for how Betty feels about Daniel, I think that a change in his tone toward her -- one of an ardent suitor, or one of a peer affirming that status with a professional offer -- I believe she would go for it in a heartbeat.  And she would get to stay in NYC with her family and friends.  I cannot see her in London...although that may well be where she ends up.

Loved the possibilities of the gun shot last night.  Just desserts, perhaps????

We finished SHERLOCK HOLMES last night.  Totally agree with your assessment.  It was better than many of the reviews had led us to believe, but it sure wasn't Arthur Conan Doyle.  Of course it looks like they set things up for a sequel with that little coda vis a vis Moriarty.

...it sure wasn't Arthur Conan Doyle...

Nor did it pretend to be. I suspect Doyle is much too cerebral for today's mass-market movie-goers. We enjoyed it , and the Grandlads thought it was great. (And, yes, I was expecting to enjoy it less.)

I lovre the new bonus packs - we get to keep the Blu-ray in Rehoboth and the Grandlads can have the DVD for Maryland.

DR GINNY are you and DH RICHARD thinking about making the trek over for the Friday, April 16, performance of BRAINEX at Buck Creek Players?

I think that is when MR BK is planning to see the show.....

I can arrange the tickets on Sunday if you do.

DR JRand, we were thinking more about the next Friday, April 23.  On the 16th, DR DakotaCelt and I were going meet up in Cincinnati when she's in town for a conference.  She and I should talk about the possibility of trekking to Indy together.  I'll get back to you...

A fun outing with the Grandlads and a nice coming-of-age plot for the tweeners. The 3D animation is getting better and better.

DR Jane - The Lindt/Lindor White Chocolate Mini Eggs are a seasonal item. I think they've only been around two or three years.  -And, again, only available during the Easter season.  If the Lindt store on 5th Avenue happens to have some left, would you like me to send you some?

I think I'm fine thank you :)  Thanks for the link, I have only seen bags of the candy when traveling in Switzerland years ago.

The Lindt/Lindor Mini Eggs are basically their Truffles (balls) in egg form/shape.  I like the Dark Chocolate and Double Milk ones.

I have the Lindor white chocolate Truffle & can get them here.  Now I don't have to be curious about the Easter eggs :)

DR Jennifer - Reese's is Hershey's. And vice versa.

Maybe the packages are different here. But here it was called Hershey's eggies. Although after double checking it did say something like "reese's pieces" at the bottom. And come to think of it even though i have not had reese's pieces in forever, the insides of these eggies did remind me of them.

I saw the way they made daniel contemplate what betty means to him. But to me this is too sudden. He has never shown any interest in her and was in fact dating amanda just last week. If they do decide to go the betty/daniel route i hope it is just a vague beginning of what could be and not some declaration of love. I won't buy that for a minute. Nor do i think betty would go for it. I don't see her feeling romantic towards him.

Btw, i'm not saying that they wouldn't have betty going for it. I just don't see the betty i know acting that way.

Home from Toyland. At the corner of Seventh Avenue and 27th Street, I had a nice telephone conversation with Joshie about possible work, last night's performance, a rumor about a conductor being replaced halfway through a recent recording session, and string bowings.

Today, the subway was empty. I rode up to 86th Street and dropped a vocal score and CD of THE MAGIC KNIGHT off to my goddaughter's mother, who was one of the original Vocal Minority in the OBC of COMPANY and who now directs opera. It's very warm, so I think I will take a cool bath, unpack my summer shorts and rearrange my apparel.

The show's history is that Betty has fallen for all her (eventual) boyfriends -- except Gio -- in virtually one (or two) episode(s) each.  Henry may have been her first and best, but I think Gio was her ideal matchup.

I think the history of her relationship with Daniel goes a long way toward making him part of her future a palatable possibility.  Daniel always turned to Betty for emotional support...never for a minute considering her as a possible soul mate/girlfriend.  I do believe he has loved her for a long time, but only now is understanding that there might be more.

Daniel, to me, has always been a rather two-dimensional character, only now and then showing a bit more depth.  I really loved Betty telling him in last night's episode that his current girlfriend made him stupid.

The question that looms for me:  Is Daniel good enough for Betty?

I discussed with my physical therapist my going to L.A. for my uncles 90th birthday party.  He suggested I don't go.  Flying is more stressful on the body, driving it simply too long to be away from therapy & my exercises.  Olympia is closer so we shall see, but I doubt it.

If we went we could leave Bosco in our car with Sherlock during the show, or with Keith to watch them.

I had read that Guy Ritchie was planning a sequel while this first film was still in production. The overwhelming box-office success of the movie merely clinched the deal.

Before I left for lunch, I had time to watch Tuesday night's IDOL performances. I found it surprising that a couple of people who are usually so good (like Crystal) weren't very good last night (despite the judges' raves for her) while someone who's generally so average or worse like Katie had a pure, beautiful performance.

In fact, I thought most everyone rose to the occasion except Andrew whom I really hated and Siobhan who I think is overrated.

When I read the results of last night's show this morning, I was expecting Michael to have forgotten the lyrics or something, but he did just fine with his choice. I think he was victim to  fans assuming he'd be safe and so they voted elsewhere. (Reuben Studdard almost went home one week early on, too, but after that shock, he was never in the bottom again. I suspect Michael will not have to worry for a while about being in the bottom.)

DR Ginny, CONGRATULATIONS TO YOU AND YOUR FAMILY!!!  I know this has made you very happy, your future daughter-in-law seems like a gem.

Their announcement on FB is very nice :)

Then I watched the GLEE ON OPRAH episode in HD. Loved seeing the cast perform and answer questions. They seem like great people. Jane Lynch looked FABULOUS! Matthew Morrison is one talented guy!

I also loved it.  I can't wait for next week's spring premiere. It is scheduled from 9:28pm till 10:30pm.

I still haven't found the key i was looking for. And i've searched and searched. It is driving me crazy.

I'm 99% it's in my bedroom. But it's always been in one place under a rug in a little case. I've tried to see if maybe i moved the case, although i don't see why i would have done that.

I had read that Guy Ritchie was planning a sequel while this first film was still in production. The overwhelming box-office success of the movie merely clinched the deal.

I thought that the recreation of 1890s London was sensational.

Once I forgot the fact (after about 20+ minutes) that the name of the movie was SHERLOCK HOLMES, I enjoyed it as an okay action/adventure piece.

But, I think that Conan Doyle & Basil Rathbone are probably spinning in their graves.

DR Elmore, was "There's Always A Woman" included in this ANYONE CAN WHISTLE?

No. It was lost in Boston.
I like that song, but felt it bogged down the action when it was included in the Bernadette Peters/Madeleine Kahn version. but then, as you have said, that whole production was somehow bogged down.

Brody is most intrusive in HOLLYWOODLAND.....every time the story left George Reeves to concentrate on Brody's situation, I was incensed at the waste of time.....

Who cares?  It was the story of George Reeves.....or should have been.

Oh, boy, those were my exact feelings, and I have stated them here on several occasions. I despised every minute of the personal story of Adrian Brody's character. His ONLY purpose should have been in the investigation of the Reeves death. All of his personal baggage RUINED the movie.
Wonder if there's enough footage where somebody could re-edit it into the movie it should have been. Affleck gave one of his better performances in that one.

Well, I picked up my friend Margo from the hospital without incident this afternoon and we went to her friend Dawn's house.  Because Dawn is a nurse, she said that she would watch Margo this first night out of the hospital, but Dawn was not home!  So, I took Margo to her own home after she wasn't able to get Dawn on the phone.   Dawn eventually did call back and will watch Margo at Margo's home.  So that's all well and good.

But then, I come back to work and am ready to leave, but now I can't find my checkbook! :o I thought that I had it with me when I came back, but it's nowhere to be found.  I called the hospital and they said that nothing was turned into the desk after the room was cleaned up, so I'm HOPING that my checkbook fell out of my pocket in Margo's car.  It's also possible that I never took it with me when I left my house this morning, so I'm going home now to check.  I also keep my driver's license in my checkbook...so I'd BETTER find it! :-\

Whatever happens, I have rehearsal tonight at 7:00.  Until later!

True, Jrand.  The trouble is that there aren't that many people going to movies that know George Reeves.

That shouldn't make any difference. Any audience going to the film could enjoy the story of George Reeves' death as one of the most baffling of real-life murder puzzles in Hollywood history. Real or not, the story of George Reeves in the film is a MILLION times more interesting and unusual than the hackneyed story of Adrian Brody's fictional character. That story has been told hundreds on times.

Then, in anticipation of the start up of the spring season of GLEE, I took the GLEE set off the shelf and watched the last two episodes. These included that fabulous "Jump!" number and, in the winter finale, their appearance at Sectionals with two show-stopping performances.

COCOON did not arrive today, so if it doesn't arrive tomorrow, I guess I'll have to start work on the next Criterion disc I'm going to do: RIDE WITH THE DEVIL directed by Ang Lee. I never saw the movie during its original release or on paycable, so this will be a new viewing experience.

I have both the DVD and Blu-ray editions in the stack. I'll start, of course, with the DVD. It's almost 2 1/2 hours long, but apart from two audio commentaries, it doesn't appear to have many other bonus features.

I live near the Ventura Pier.   But drive through the farm land between Ventura and Moorpark, to and from work everyday.

Two things I learned this week.

Farm country is stinky after a heavy rain.

Do not drive when it's really dark.   There are no street lights.

So I'll just stay home at night, and party on Main Street. :)

DR Sam, when it's really dark, look up...you'll see thousands of stars

OH! Thanks for explaining. That came out of left field for me.  Perhaps I should read all the posts ;)

Gee, I wonder if Rob and Mary Linda will be able to find a minister to perform the ceremony?

And since the Groom pays the Officiant, it would be nice to keep the money in the family!

DR George - I hope you find your checkbook and driver's license.  Our DN (dear niece) Lauren stopped by here Sunday evening to see Mary Linda's ring and the next morning we found her license and a credit card in the chair she'd sat in.  Rob texted her right away and she was able to stop by before the end of the day to pick them up.

Thanks...I went back to work after rehearsal and looked around some more and still couldn't find it.  In the morning, I'll call the hospital again to see if someone turned it in at the front desk and I'll look more thoroughly in my car with a flashlight.

:P

I headed up to White Plains earlier this evening with my friend, Brendan, to attend a piano recital by one of our mutual friends, John, who is pursuing his M.M. at SUNY Purchase.  The trip north on Metro-North was a bit interesting. After finally figuring out that the current printed Metro-North schedule was not the true "current" one - three of the "scheduled" trains just passed the 125th Street station - we boarded a White Plains bound train - which, of course, ended up being a "local" rather than an "express".  Thankfully, my friend, Fernando, who also happens to be going to SUNY Purchase right now, was able to chauffeur me and Brendan from - and to - the train station to the campus. In any case..

John played a very good recital.  It was the first of the three required recitals he needs to present in order to complete his M.M.  It was also quite a monster program anchored by Beethoven, Op. 101, and Chopin's 4th Ballade.

DR George - I really do hope that you find your checkbook and your driver's license.  -And why don't you keep your driver's license in your wallet?

Jose, you had better plan enough time in Seattle this summer for a HHW get-together

Tom, trust me, I will.
