Well, you've read the notes, the notes were not quite eighty yet, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home, which may just be when I'm eighty.
-
And the word of the day is: CATHECT!
-
Yesterday, we started the run of The Brain at about 7:00 and stopped at about 9:45...and only got through act one! BUT, there was a lot tech stuff going on, programing the light board and stuff like that. We'll go through act tow tonight, get through it as quickly as we can, then run the whole show with costumes! It's really happening! :D
-
Love hearing about it. Act one should really run sixty-two minutes. The Indiana production ran longer than the show usually does. For this show, shorter/better :)
-
We also had the set with pieces that we'd never had before, so figuring out the scene changes took up some time. I got added to a couple of changes that I'd never done before but I'm available for those, so that's good.

I completely agree...and Josh said at rehearsal a couple of days ago. "quick is funny"...but some things aren't as quick as (I think) they should be. And there are a couple of moments that Josh has specifically directed to be not so quick. ::)
-
Granted, I could nitpick, but I won't...my issues mainly are just tiny moments throughout. I'm not the director (nor would I want to be) and just have to let it all go.
;)
-
Well, I didn't much sleep last night at all, so I'm going to go to bed.
Good night, BK and guests. :)
-
Morning all.
That is all.
-
Good morning, all! I think the neighbor is spending nights at the girlfriend's for the nonce. The pnly sounds I heard last night after 11 appeared to be the dog dragging something around for a bit and then silence. Since I always see the glass half empty, I don't know what to think of the current situation. There's the paranoid side of me that says he's setting up an alibi for himself when they find my body.
So, today, a long meeting in Toyland over the status quo and future deadlines. This will be followed by a meeting at Rodgers & Hammerstein at 2 pm. Then its back here to finish up the second act of WIZARD OF OZ. The Act Two Finale, "The Wizard Is No Longer King," is huge and I am more than 2/3 through it now.
Last night I got through three more episodes of BONES, and I really liked the Gravedigger episode with the ghost of the young soldier. I had never thought of the Gravedigger as a woman so that was a nice surprse, and I loved the moment when Bones slugged her with the briefcase. The other two were the episode about a dead hockey player, set mostly in an ice skating rink, and the dead sci fi princess and the sci fi-fantasy conventions, which my dear goddaughter attends with religious fervor.
-
Good morning, DR Ben!
-
Thanks for the birthday wishes last night from DRs Danise, KevinH, Sam and Cillaliz
-
DR Jose i don't think our costco has the chicken item you mentioned. They actually don't sell many things at all.
They have the hotdogs with drink for $1.99. They have ice cream. They have one kind of pizza. They now have the hamburger.
They have occassionally had ribs or a lobster roll. They don't even have anything for vegetarians but fries (which i find completely crazy).
-
Today is a good day for frosting.
-
I missed you Larry!
Good morning.
-
Mmm, frosting. Eating it right out of the container with a spoon. You don't even need cake (though frosted cake is good too)
-
Hey, Bruce, the check went through so my book has been ordered as well.
-
And now back to Packard.
-
He's home. Lot's of footsteps and a loud door.
I'm down to around 30 bars of the Finale, so I'm very pleased.
-
Birthday wishes to Jennifer
(you are celebrating all week, aren't you?)
-
TOD:
Not an easy question.
Maybe GONE WITH THE WIND in Atlanta, because of all the glitz...and Carole Lombard was there.
Maybe CITIZEN KANE, providing I got to hang out with Orson Welles.
Or, any movie starring Humphrey Bogart, for the same reason as CITIZEN KANE.
It would have been great to meet and mingle with my "idols".

And the word of the day is: CATHECT!
And The Song Of The Day Is: I BELIEVE IN YOU
-
Tuesday morning greetings! DH Richard is off to bible study at a nearby church and DS Rob is about to leave for a paramedic test and I'm looking forward to having the house to myself for a while. Later I have a few errands to do and a
bored board meeting tonight.
-
Home alone vibes for DR GINNY.
-
Adding time to the Indiana BRAINEX was the lack of scenes "in one" - and a slow hand on the light cue button. We watched a lot of the scene changes when they really could have happened during the "bits" just before......could be why it was written that way.
-
But NOT fatal to the show.....but it cut down on the drinking time after the show.
-
TOD: I am not sure any of my favorite moves HAD a premiere as such....hmmmmmmmmmmmmm.....
A few good ones have certainly been mentioned.....
Maybe the GIANT premiere in Hollywood.....
-
MAY DAY! MAY DAY!
On May 1st- CRAIG SAMUEL BROCKMAN (Remember Him) will give his hand in Marriage to HEATHER LILY HARRIS in Washington D.C.
Congratulations to The Happy Couple.

Well, I am agog that JR wouldn't want to be in Seattle on November 12, 1936 for the gala fete honoring Miss Frances Farmer and her starring turn in COME AND GET IT. ;)

Good morning!
It was chilly, brisk morning today, and I enjoyed my walk more than yesterday. I might have started losing some of the weight I picked up last week because the walk was definitely not as tiring as yesterday.
-
I've been expecting a UPS package all morning, but OF COURSE it hasn't come yet. Doesn't have anything to do with a review copy. Something else I bought that is due to be delivered today. With my luck, it'll be one of those late afternoon deliveries.
Oy!
-
I guess I will go ahead and review WALKABOUT on Blu-ray this afternoon. I haven't seen the movie in decades, so I'm looking forward to experiencing it again. SHould be a good afternoon. And it's always nice to get back into review-harness after being away from it since Friday.
-
I don't undersand the reasoning behind LOST being a repeat tonight, but it is. It's the Richard Alpert episode, and while I enjoyed it, I don't really want to rewatch it. However, I'm assuming there will be squeegees added to the show, and they might be fun, so I will likely DVR the show. I'll watch it tomorrow when I'm eating lunch.
-
New programming tonight includes NCIS (yay!), GLEE (double yay!), and IDOL (meh...). I'd be fine with dropping IDOL, but the guys I eat lunch with on Thursday still want to watch and talk about it, so I'm going along grudgingly.
-
I remember those BONES episodes, DR Elmore, and I'm looking forward to getting to those, too. I was SO glad they finally captured the Gravedigger, and I was astonished with the revelation.

TOD
I was at The Premiere in New York City August 28 1951 of A PLACE IN THE SUN,,,,,,,,Very Exciting!
-
Good Morning!
I'm up, I'm up... And I thought I just saw some sunlight lighting up the back patio... But now I'm starting to think it was a mirage.
-
TOD:
The film clips make the premiere of the 1954 A STAR IS BORN look very exciting and star-studded. And I would love to have seen the entire original version of the movie.

And it appears the repeat of "Lost" is currently messing up the "Lost" portion of ABC's website right now. It keeps trying to bring up a video that is "no longer available".
-
Like JRAnd, few, if any, of my favorite movies had premiers, however I think it might have been fun to be at the premiers for SEVEN BRIDES FOR SEVER BROTHERS (just to see the cast) and ALL THAT HEAVEN ALLOWS (to see the cast and all the Universal stock players who no doubt were forced to attend)
-
As for the Topic of the Day...
"The Singing Cavalier"
;D
-
DR JoseSPiano: Thanks for sharing about your friend's visit to Oakland and his take on La Farine. It's nice to have access to that little piece of heaven when only French pastries will do!!!
-
BK: I kow nothing about a td shout-out, but I do know that Joe was making a stink over at FilmScoreMonthly Messageboard about him being misquoted in a story over at TheJudyRoom written by a guy whose last name is Brogan.
Joe is just beside himself that this guy quoted him "inaccurately" (or, out of context, it's not really clear given his penchant for rambling)...although Joe said much of what he related was off-the-record/not-for-publication.
What can anyone expect? He has, for quite some time, been unable to differentiate his fantasies from reality...often interjecting himself into experiences others have had and relating them to others as his own.
-
BK and other Blu-ray player owners:
Blu-ray players are not simple players. They are computers. They have to be upgraded to keep up with the software advances taking place month to month.
These advances are NOT deal-breakers.
I have circumvented having to do two upgrades by simply plugging a "flash drive" into the back of my Blu-ray player. Why did I do this? I read about it -- it gives the BD player more memory...and that memory has allowed me to play BD discs that would not play before I added the flash drive.
"Avatar" played beautifully. Not a hitch.
I recommend trying this.

FedEx truck just pulled up and then pulled away. Alas, my package is UPS, not FedEx. Argh!

I am eagerly awaiting my BD copy of "Out of Africa" today.

BK, as to your mention yesterday about my interest in the CD for LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS, Fred Katz has never been a big favorite of mine, although I do admit to having some fondness for his score to WASP WOMAN (which might actually be the same as the score to LSOH). LSOH is a CD that I may like to buy eventually, but right at this moment my finances are in seriously bad shape so my purchasing power has been greatly curtailed
I am saving up for your autobiography, which I simply can't pass up, but I will have to wait until payday before I can order it as I no longer have any credit cards, only cash monies.
And as for my favorites, I know that you know what I want to see released on CD! Some Albert Glasser, DAY OF THE OUTLAW, some soundtracks to assorted Allied Artists and United Artists B movies, and other more obscure things like that would be wonderful (some great Drive-in double feature soundtracks from 50s teen films or B noir, for instance would be fun)
Please know, BK, that I support the wonderful work Kritzerland is doing in releasing all of these soundtracks, regardless of if they are ones that interest me or not. You are doing a great service in preserving valuable film music and film history and that is something I applaud!!!!

I mentioned this the other day. My older Samsung Blu-ray player played AVATAR without a problem (at least as much as I was willing to rewatch at 11 p.m. at night), but it does have the flash drive plugged into the back and it does have updated firmware.
I think, bk, that you can go to the Samsung website, type in your model number (BDP-1600 or whatever it is), and it will show you the link to the latest firmware for that model. Then you can open that link and burn your own CD update disc. You don't have to be have your player connected to the internet (although that is the easiest way since it does inform you about updates automatically when they become available).
Yes, a little trouble, but it will allow you to keep your equipment up to date. As DR Ron said, these players are much more like computers than DVD players and require some upgrades to stay current. No different that your downloading updates for your iPhone or different Mac operating system updates.

I am eagerly awaiting my BD copy of "Out of Africa" today.
I got the shipping notice for it and APOLLO 13 yesterday, so I guess I'll get mine tomorrow or Thursday (at the earliest).
-
I guess I'll go ahead and finish up here and then head downstairs to start preparing lunch. I only have NURSE JACKIE from last night on the DVR which I'll likely have on while I cooking something to eat. I'll probably put on another BONES episode while I eat lunch. (I didn't record last night's CASTLE rerun; it's my least favorite episode that they've broadcast.)

Oh, rats!

You mean THE DANCING CAVALIER.
Though I think the premier of THE DUELING CAVALIER would have been more fun.

"No! No! No!"
"Yes! Yes! Yes!"
"No! Noooo! Noooooooooo..."

TOD:
I'm not too hip on the history of movie premiers. I'm sure it would have been fun to have attended those that were obviously full of fame and glamour like GONE WITH THE WIND, A STAR IS BORN and MY FAIR LADY.
Have there been any infamous premiers with gossipy bad behavior?

All understood - but I just thought Little Shop would have been your cuppa - and, if anyone on this site wants a CD and can't afford it when it's announced, write me so I can at least hold one for you because some of these things sell out within a day.

I'm up a little later than I should be so I'd better get ready as helper will be here in about twenty-five minutes.

While driving home from my errands I was thinking about the board meeting I have to attend tonight and realized that I'd been asked to take minutes at the last one. Now, I'm frantically trying to read my notes and construct something that looks and sounds coherent.
-
I had planned on watching and reviewing the Blu-ray of WALKABOUT today, but lo and behold in the USPS mail there arrived the regular DVD version of the movie. So, I put the Blu-ray back into the review stack (to be done after I get through the Oshima box set) and get ready to watch the DVD version after I finished lunch.
-
While I ate lunch, I watched NURSE JACKIE from last night. Good episode though I always prefer the hospital shenanigans to the domestic encounters, especially with this obnoxious friend of her daughter's who Jackie (and I) loathe.
-
Then I watched the DVD of WALKABOUT. The film is, as it has always been, part odyssey film, part tone poem, part stinging comment on encroaching civilization. It's always been a kind of hypnotic film, and this time around for me was no different.
There's a nice new transfer that I'll be eager to see what it looks like on the Blu-ray version. Even here, it looks pretty nice overall, and I enjoyed revisiting it.
-
There are twenty minute interviews with the two British stars of the movie and an hour long documentary about the aboriginel star.
Also a commentary with the director and Jenny Agutter (recorded separately and combined) and the trailer.
A nice package
-
Then I had time to skim through today's AS THE WORLD TURNS. Nothing of interest, but Luke and Reid are on tomorrow's show.
-
I think tonight I'll veg out with BONES episodes before I check in with my two prime time TV shows of the evening: NCIS and GLEE.
-
I can't believe the weather today. Yesterday it was 60s. And this friday-sat-sun is supposed to be 70. But today it is snowing. And it's a thick yucky messy snow. Yuck!
-
DR Jane, i was at Chapters (book store) and they had the paper back for THE GIRL WHO PLAYED WITH FIRE. So i sat down and re-read the last chapter.
It was the paperback. So it had the first chapter to the next book. So i decided to read it. It also had a blurb about it (which i had not yet read).
-
I don't undersand the reasoning behind LOST being a repeat tonight, but it is. It's the Richard Alpert episode, and while I enjoyed it, I don't really want to rewatch it. However, I'm assuming there will be squeegees added to the show, and they might be fun, so I will likely DVR the show. I'll watch it tomorrow when I'm eating lunch.
I also don't get this. And i'm sure a lot of people will be annoyed when the tune in. I mentioned this last week that it was gonna be a repeat. Since i was checking my tv's schedule and noticed that the show isn't even on the canadian station. So i looked online and saw it was a repeat.
:(
At least there is lots of other stuff on.
-
Congrats to Craig, Heather and Arnold!
-
And AMERICAN IDOL will probably go over again. So if you're recording GLEE make sure to add extra time if you can.
-
DR Jane, i didn't watch the hockey game last night (well i did watch the last few minutes). IT was also on in the bar of the restaurant we were at. I did come out and chat with people. But they took up all the good seats anyways. And since it was my birthday i figured i didn't have to watch something i didn't feel like watching. Nobody cared. And the Canadiens won! (my niece was ecstatic).
-
Tuesday already.
-
Minutes are done and sent to the president. Hope the secretary's there tonight!

The only reason I can imagine for the repeat of the Richard Alpert episode is that the next new episode must build very strongly on the Alpert mythology and the network wanted to make sure his story was clear to viewers before proceeding. But that's mere;y a guess. I have no idea what the next new episode will be about.
I do know that since ABC moved LOST to the second half of the season (what, three years ago?), they've never before shown the new episodes interrupted by reruns.
-
Now I must hop off-line and get some writing done. Then I'll head down for more entertaining Tv programs for this evening.

Had a Szechuan lunch today at Shan Dong Restaurant in Oakland's Chinatown district.
All of us found our food too salty...and we had ordered with explicit "no MSG" instructions.
Turns out, the kitchen had received spices from a different supplier and not what they are used to using. They are "guessing" how to treat food when "No MSG" is specified. Several of our dishes were replaced with salt-free substitutions.
On the way back, I saw an UPS truck and it was driven by "our" delivery guy Jerome. I yelled out a hello to him and he stopped. "I have a small package for you!" he responded.
It was, of course, "Out of Africa" on BD.
-
Today my birding buddy said she'd like to learn the names of the lizards we see. So, her first lizard on her first day of lizard watching is a gila monster.
Our other great finds today were a javelina, a coachwhip, and two wild mustangs.
-
I think you should give names to these lizards.
The one in the picture can be "Milla, the Gila monster"!
-
Long long day, but I had two really good meetings. I'm thinking about OZ edits and what to do for dinner.

I can't believe the weather today. Yesterday it was 60s. And this friday-sat-sun is supposed to be 70. But today it is snowing. And it's a thick yucky messy snow. Yuck!
I shouldn't complain we went from beautiful spring weather to 45 degrees and rain.
I met a friend in town for lunch. When I went back out the sun was shinning & I had too a short walk & met two Bernese Mountain Dogs visiting from California. It is still raining at home.
-

It was the paperback. So it had the first chapter to the next book. So i decided to read it. It also had a blurb about it (which i had not yet read).
I don't read those "preview" chapters in books. It drives me crazy not to be able to finish reading the book, plus I have noticed many of them are written as a preview and are not necessarily the first chapter.
-
A repeat of Lost - brilliant - string everyone along. My guess? They've had to make some last minute changes and needed the breathing room. They have boxed themselves into so many corners it must be insane trying to tie all of it up in a pretty pink ribbon.
-
I haven't stopped until just now. And I still have stuff to do. The helper arrived, we packaged up all the orders that were sitting here. Then we grabbed some lunch, then went to Costco and Staples - we bought some plastic drawer things for our various and sundried forms and inks and all that stuff, plus a little plastic file folder. With those we were able to get rid of all the stupid boxes under the hutch in the dining room. Now it's very neat under there and looks so much better. Then it was over to the mail place, where I picked up nine count them nine boxes of the new book - the hardcover, here a week earlier than expected. Now the usual dilemma - which is whether to ship immediately or wait for the CD that goes with the book. I think I'll probably have that on Monday, so I'm thinking waiting is the best option, since I'll just be inserting the CD loosely inside the front of the book.
-
BK, in 2028 you will only have to think your notes and they will magically appear on our wall-size i-life, where it will appear in 3-D and smell-o-vision.

Oh yes, DR JMK - I would love to have been at the premiere of COME & GET IT in Seattle.....I am sure it was much more exciting than it was presented in FRANCES.....
I think that scene in FRANCES was shot at the Paramount Theater, where I spent many wonderful Saturday afternoons of my youth.

Both the Paramount and the 5th Avenue are both used for touring productions; although last Christmas they did present the sing-along SOUND OF MUSIC at the 5th Avenue.

Both the Paramount and the 5th Avenue are both used for touring productions; although last Christmas they did present the sing-along SOUND OF MUSIC at the 5th Avenue.
They also hold a lot of concerts at the Paramount. I saw Laura Nyro there years ago. The Paramount has the absolute worst seats for anyone over 5 feet tall. Your knees are crushed the moment you sit down.

T.O.D.
I also think I would have liked to be at the premiere of A STAR IS BORN. I used to have a video that had about an hour of the film's premiere on it. Not the film itself, just an hour outside the theater.
-
BK, in 2028 you will only have to think your notes and they will magically appear on our wall-size i-life, where it will appear in 3-D and smell-o-vision.
and FEEL-O-RAMA!!
;D
-
And now, I'm off to the theater...with a stop for dinner first. Tonight, we're first going to do tech stuff for act two then run the whole show!
Be back later!
-
Oh, man, I'm exhausted already. I've begun the liner notes, but really need to take a break. I think I'll finish The Blind Side, then think about watching one other motion picture on Blu and Ray.
-
TCM is showing a lot of Robert Taylor's films from the late 50's and early 60's.
Interesting....mostly European made westerns.
-
Who is it, or was it, that often mentioned TIM TAMS? Pepperidge Farms now has them out in Chocolate and caramel. Not knowing what I was buying, I picked caramel. I am not impressed.
-
TCB, it was DakotaCelt.

I don't read those "preview" chapters in books. It drives me crazy not to be able to finish reading the book, plus I have noticed many of them are written as a preview and are not necessarily the first chapter.
I don't usually read them. But since the book is coming out in a few weeks i did. I'm pretty sure this was the actual first chapter since the third book was already written when this book (2) went into paperback.
-
My guess about LOST being a repeat is that they decided to do the finale on a sunday and they had the date selected. They obviously don't want to go against the IDOL finale.
-
BTW, IDOL went over by about 2 minutes. So for those who record GLEE it could go over by up to that amount of time.
For me THE GOOD WIFE is on the same channel as GLEE so i guess that show will go over for me, although it will probably work itself out. I cannot figure out why the Canadian channel that shows GLEE keeps having to wait till the same time as FOX to broadcast GLEE. They just show commercials for the first 2 minutes. And then all their shows go over the scheduled time.
-
Survived the board meeting and got home in time for the beginning of GLEE.
-
TOD: The premiere of Funny Girl!
-
Oh yes, DR JMK - I would love to have been at the premiere of COME & GET IT in Seattle.....I am sure it was much more exciting than it was presented in FRANCES.....
I think that scene in FRANCES was shot at the Paramount Theater, where I spent many wonderful Saturday afternoons of my youth.

Hey! I got us to page 5.

You'll find out soon :) I'm half way through the book. I'm trying to read it slower than I usually read. I want to savor it & there is too much detail to speed read.

That was included on the last DVD release.

I watched several BONES episodes tonight while I was waiting for primetime TV to come on.
I began with that episode with Booth captured by the Gravedigger. I remember being astonished when the Gravedigger was unmasked though that particular performer always rubs me the wrong way so I shouldn't have been surprised.
-
I also watched the episodes with Booth laid up with a bad back while they went out searching for a murderer who seems to have killed over movie memoribilia.
-
I also watched the episode involving the death of the hockey player. Loved seeing David Boreanaz playing hockey, but the mystery wasn't all that wonderful. I do like Wendall as the intern, though. He's always a favorite.
-
NCIS wasn't all that special this week. That polygraph girl is and always has been really annoying and there was way too much about hook-ups and romance and not enoough about the mystery. They've done better in the past.
-
GLEE, however, was very special. I loved every song and saved it on the DVR so I can rewatch it tomorrow. Yes, IDOL did indeed go over (irritatingly), but I did add minutes to the recording, so I was fine.
And, for a real change of pace, the episode didn't focus on Rachel at all. In fact, she had no solos whereas Kurt and Mercedes really got to shine. Matthew Morrison and Kristin Chenoweth dueted twice, both times to memorable effect. Their voices blend wonderfully together. If he hadn't been doing GLEE, he should have been the lead in PROMISES, PROMISES revival.
-
I guess I'll start on those Oshima films tomorrow. Like Godard, he doesn't really make narrative films in the traditional sense, so I have no idea what I'm in for, but that's why I'll likely only do one of these a day unless I really get inspired to do more. (There are five in all.)

And it was nice to actually hear FULL songs again! -Not 90-120 second edits.

Hi all. 8)
-
Hi, DR Sam.
-
Hi Sam!
-
I remember gila monsters from when I was young and in living in Arizona. Horny toads, side winders, frogs too large to hold in your hands. Just a short trip down memory lane. ::)
-
Hi Laura. Thanks for the pics.
-
Hi Jose, how is monkey ?
-
It's cold outside. This weekend is a trip to the pier two short blocks from where I live. I hear it is the longest wooden pier still left in CA. Only fishing and walking are allowed (I think), no cars etc.

Yes indeed. Kurt's "A House Is Not a Home" made me tear up, just as he did.
-
Now, it's getting late, so I'm going to head downstairs to bed.
We've had rain on and off all night, so I don't know if I'll be able to walk tomorrow morning or not if it's still raining. For April, it has been a pretty dry month, so this rain at the end of the month will help keep the region at normal levels of rainfall for the year.
-
And now, good night!
-
I still do not have a TV. But my neighbors have something like 365 channels. I should hang out over there more often. I feel totally out of touch with a lot of the posts.
Have been picking up small 1920's/1940's wood furniture instead. Almost ready to take some pictures.
Well, since I need to be asleep in 2 hours, most go pay some bills for May.
-
Night all.
-
Hi Jose, how is monkey ?
Monkey is well.

It's a nice world with no tv.
-
Hmm...
Apparently it's a full moon tonight.
Hmmm...
-
A nice world without TV? I don't think so!
-
How Is The Monkey - that's the title of my next novel.
-
Finished The Blind Side, finished my liner notes. In a little while I'll put the motor car away, take a hot shower, and write some notes.
-
The mastering guy did a masterful job on the rare tracks book CD - some of the source tapes were really bad.
-
What a busy little day this was.
-
So excited that books are here. Wish the CD was, too, because I'm really anxious to send it out.
-
Wow, if you search my new book at amazon and go to the paperback version, you can "search inside the book" and read the introduction in its entirety. It also has the the acknowledgments, too, but I would say not to read that, as that is best read after the book is finished.
-
Well...
I think the combination of today's sudden cold snap and tonight's full moon has done a number on my system and psyche. I didn't necessarily have a bad day, but I'm not really sure I had a good day either. It was just a day. And tomorrow is another one. So...
Goodnight.
