Well, you've read the notes, the notes were before the cart, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're currently before the cart with the horsies.

That's Andrus spelled backward and in this case it really is. The founder (in 1917) was John Emory Andrus.

And on that note I will leave you.

Good morning, all! Another McGlinnventory day, and I need to find a post office branch around Park Avenue and 23rd Street. After I finish my morning at the inventory, I have several hours of edits with Mr Skip Kennon and an evening with tHE ROSE OF ALGERIA.

Last night I skimmed through Jack Gottlieb's new book WORKING WITH BERNSTEIN, which was sort of interesting.  I wish someone would do a book about the theatre pieces, both the musicals and the ballets but by the time someone does, all the primary sources needing to be interviewed will be dead.

Hey, Larry. You may have left already but there is a Post Office on 23rd Street (149 E 23rd St., between 3rd Ave & Lexington Ave.)

I have been there. The line can move at a glacial pace. They do have the automated machines but the clerks are not especially helpful or pleasant and the customers can be whack jobs so be aware.

BK's close personal directee Adair is coming over this morning to give me her book for an upcoming cabaret I'm playing for her (on very short notice, I might add).

Today is also repair day for DirecTV.  The great room receiver is wonky.  If you leave it off for any length of time it stops sending a signal.  It also keeps detaching itself from the multi-room DVR network.

I must also email the customer service lady at Qwest today to see what they're going to do about this massive misquote I received on new services.

And on a completely different subject, I'm not a huge fan of hers, but I heartily recommend CELINE:  THROUGH THE EYES OF THE WORLD on Blu to anyone/everyone.  It's not really a concert video, it's a really fascinating (and gorgeous to watch) documentary following her around the world on her 2008 tour.  She really seems to be a remarkably giving human being, considering her superstardom.

Good Afternoon!

I just went through the season announcement for New York Stage & Film (http://powerhouse.vassar.edu/) and came across this:

*****

July 29–August 1

ON A CLEAR DAY YOU CAN SEE FOREVER

Book and lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner

Music by Burton Lane

New book by Peter Parnell

Reincarnated and Directed by Michael Mayer

Musical direction by Lawrence Yurman

Lerner and Lane’s musical tale of love that spans eras is reincarnated by Michael Mayer, the Tony Award-winning director of Side Man, Spring Awakening, and American Idiot. Beloved songs such as “Come Back to Me” and “What Did I Have That I Don’t Have” are given a surprising new twist in a completely reimagined book from Peter Parnell (QED, Trumpery, The Cider House Rules).

Performance dates and times: July 29, 30 at 8:00pm; August 1 at 2:00pm and 7:00pm

DR Jose, I'm glad that DR TCB alerted us both to the fact that we weren't even talking about the same show last night! :)

The reason i didn't question it is because you are always so internet savy. And it had seemed like you had just gone to dialidol. And since i knew the only results they had up yesterday were for DANCING WITH THE STARS I just figured that is what you were talking about.

Although actually they were wrong about the DWTS boot (which they were supposedly sure about).

So who is it that you think should have gone home in the past on IDOL. Is it Casey? My favorite is Lee, and I am so happy that the judges were pimping for him last night. That should secure his spot in the finale!

Again, I was just skimming... I saw DWTS - which I don't watch... Then I saw DialIdol... So...

Yes, Casey needs to go home. And he should have gone home a long time ago.  Although, since this season assembled one of the most confounding, middling, mediocre and lackluster group of contestants, well... I haven't watched every episode this season, but I sure have been surprised when I've tuned back in a week or two later and noticed some of the same people still there.

And, yes, it was nice to see that the producers were "pimping" out Lee last night.  However, it was surprising that Simon (and/or a producer or two) picked out a song for him that had been performed on "AI" before.  I guess they had already hired the back-up singers/chorus. ::)

Wednesday morning greetings!  Today is alumni day at Nashotah House, which means that Richard is busy until late afternoon with services, meetings, and a luncheon.  I could have gone to the luncheon, but told him to save the $35 and I'd entertain myself.

I'm sure it was hard on you to "save" the money & skip the business luncheon ;)

LOL, DR Jane!  I went to the luncheon last year and it was very nice, but it was definitely *his* thing and not mine.  As I've accompanied him to these clergy things during this first year, I've seen how few wives attend and now don't feel compelled to "stand by my man" on these occasions.

I always copy & paste to get it.  If there is an easier way I would like to know.

DR Jane - If you're on a Mac: "Alt/Option" + "c" = ç or Ç

On a PC/Windows: "Alt" + 0199 = ç - "Alt" + 0231 = Ç  -At least those should still be the codes.  Does Windows still have "Character Map"?

Hello, all!

So little time, so much to say.

I'm logged on in the Occupational Therapy Room of Rehab.  5th Floor of the same megahospital.

Joe was discharged on Sunday, even though he had blood in his brain, fractured ribs and scapula.  And he is having a bit of a hard time at home, although the nice neighbors (not Lady Macbeth who divorceth the Thane--but that's another story) have been helping him out a bit.

I have freactured pelvis and one knee, and I will be in rehab for at least another week.  What happened is that Joe was driving to the doctor, skidded on an exit ramp on oil, and the car hit a tree on his side.  His MB SLK was, of course, totalled, as were my students' finals.  I am still working on assigning grades for the semester, but at least this happened a the end of it.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~  And thanks for all the vibes.  ~~~~~~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~        Youse guys is great         ~~~~~~~~~~~~

On my own computer I keep Character Map open on the task bar so I can copy in fancy shmansy  letters whenever I want.

More later.

Luvs ya.

Oh...I (and Jose) forgot to mention that the numbers MUST be typed on the 10-key pad on the right side of your keyboard.  You can't use the numbers above the letters.  AND you have to hold down the Alt key while you're typing all four numbers.  Try that.

It turns out these ultra high-tech new DirecTV receivers do not always work with some Panasonic flatscreens.  Guess what brand was left in the house mounted to the fireplace?  It's a minor inconvenience, I guess--when the HDMI handshake doesn't take place, we have to press the reset button and wait for a few minutes.

The DirecTV/Panasonic issue may have just been a faulty HDMI cable.  I had changed it once and it didn't make any difference, but I got a bunch of budget cables on Amazon.  I just tried one that I knew was working with a PS3 and I'm getting a signal.  Won't know for sure until we turn it off--in 2045. :)

I'm now on hold with my bank.  This morning I got an e-mail from someone asking why I hadn't sent a check at the end of January.  Yes, they were asking this question on May 19th.  Before responding to the e-mailer, I called the bank and found that the check that I had, in fact, sent at the end of January had not only been received, but cashed.  So I relayed that information.  Now this person has e-mailed back saying they had no memory of receiving and cashing the check and would I be so kind as to have the bank provide a photocopy of the front and back of the check.

Now, keep in mind that these people have been a royal pain in the ass many times.  Now, what they are basically saying to me is that they do not believe me when I tell them that the bank shows the check as cashed.  So, I am on hold and will ask for a photocopy of the front and back of the check.  Once I have that, I suppose I'll have to send it to these people.  And once they see the check I will, I'm sure, get some sort of weak apology, but unfortunately this, added with a few other things, will cause me to have to do something that will not please them - and do it I shall because I am over this sort of thing in a major way.

Every once in a while, I'll get my bluetooth headset and use that if I think I need to be on my cell (and only) phone for a while.  What's really convenient is that if both of my batteries are very low, I can have my phone upstairs charging while using the bluetooth headset anywhere in my house...even two flights down.  It's pretty cool.

Jane, do you have a cell phone?  Could that be an option for you...using a hands-free bluetooth earpiece?

My phone has a headset.  It keeps my hands free & my neck from hurting.  That is normally, now I can't hold the phone for long at all.  Maybe by the time my two years, the surgeon said it would take, of healing are over with.

ROTFLOL.  My cell rings in the house, however that doesn't mean I can carry on a conversation in my house.  Keith's cell works better at the house, mine works better on the hiking trails which I consider more important.

When I was researching new land line phones I found some that are blue tooth compatible & are used instead of your cell phone.  They look like a regular phone but work off the cell, without using cell minutes.  I don't remember the details how that can be.

Oh, and it doesn't mean they don't believe you, it means someone didn't record the information & they have no way of knowing.

I agree with DR Jane. While it is certainly possible that they are screwing with you, I think it's also possible that their bank did not send them back that cheque and therefore they really need the copy for their records.

Breaking news:

Dan (the cat) was the first to climb onto the Leopard-Spotted Fainting Couch.

That is all.

I don't know why - but for some reason this news made me feel very happy

Jennifer, I'm glad you agree with me....however banks don't send back checks anymore, at least not in the States.  This check would have been returned to Bruce anyway.  This person obviously didn't write down paid in their records before cashing the check.

BK

Are any of the productions you did in LACC that you mentioned in your book available  for production?

I used to license Stages, but no, I've never tried to publish any of it through any of the licensing places.

Maybe it is something you should consider - or perhaps you might want to publish them yourself -

Well, I must be going.  I'm going to see a local production of Annie and the woman who's playing Grace is the same woman who played Grace when I did the show...in the mid-1990s!  However, she still looks quite young and is a wonderful performer and a very nice person!

And she actually went to high school and was friends with Kevin Spacey and Mare Winningham!

Just had to share. :)

I think every musical should be reprocessed and given surprising new twists to make them Happening and Now and Modern and Different.  Many of them were just popular by accident and not because they were any good to begin with.

I would like to see FOLLIES updated and take place in the now-closed CBGB's and be about a reunion of 80's pop acts.

Correct.  Which is not MY problem, but theirs.  It's the attitude really - stuff happens, but the attitude sucks, especially after I told them it had been deposited and cashed.  I don't know what else they really need, and the fact is I gave them the date of deposit and all that, and they could just look it up on THEIR bank statement.

Stuff does happen.  It isn't the mistake but how one corrects it that makes a difference.  Unless the deposit was for a single check & not multiple checks they wouldn't find it in their bank statement.

We have company coming next month that have multiple food restrictions.  I want to make a dessert but every time I think of one it has too much sugar in it.

Does anyone have a recipe they like that doesn't have much sugar, and is still tasty?

Happy Birthday, Francois. (Hey, George, how did you get the cedilla under the c?)

Thanks, only it didn't work.  I'll have to ask Keith why.  I'm sure the response will be that I'm an idiot ;)  We don't have a Mac and I'm not sure about Windows.  I haven't a clue where the character map is.  I think it is easier to copy & paste ;)

Oh...I (and Jose) forgot to mention that the numbers MUST be typed on the 10-key pad on the right side of your keyboard.  You can't use the numbers above the letters.  AND you have to hold down the Alt key while you're typing all four numbers.  Try that.
Place a foot in a bucket andhave the other wrapped in a mustard wrap. Facce east and then recite the pledge of allegiance before trying?

Not the HDMI cable, sadly.  I guess we will be pressing the reset button a lot.  Oy.

Speaking of Bluetooth, I had the weirdest frigging thing happen the other day.  I had my cell phone and bluetooth on at the old house.  You will not believe this, but Zach was there with me and will attest our ROOMBA starting asking for Bluetooth commands.  I was so surprised and shocked I spat out, "Clean!", not really understanding what was happening.  And then I heard my Bluetooth respond in its robotic voice, "Bet-sy" and it started dialing Betsy at work.  Zach and I were laughing very hard, to say the least.
