Well, you've read the notes, the notes were much ado about both nothing and something, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're hoping for much aMOO about something.

MONKEY'S MOUTHPIECE CRIES "IMPOSSIBLE"
'He doesn't even have a passport!" says Simbulon.

Late last night the attorney representing the American simian suspect in the heist earlier this week of almost five millions dollars worth of art work from the Paris Museum of Modern Art said that his client does not even have a passport, nor can he lift anything weighing more than 2 grams.

Among the paintings taken:

TOD:

I have a few things that I can watch this weekend.

1. NIP/TUCK (Final Season) - I'm about 8 episodes into what began as a very good show and has gone downhill ever since.  This season is really pretty bad, not even a guilty pleasure, but I've agreed to write a review of it.   :(

2. THE EASTWOOD FACTOR - a documentary that I'm going to review.  :)

3. THE SAMUEL FULLER COLLECTION - I have 5 more titles in this set to watch.  Looking forward to seeing them.  :)

Good morning, all! I slept late and I am now pondering my day. I believe I have laundry and some tidying this morning, along with a trip to Staples and, hopefully, the NYPL.

DR John G, my work is so slight on FINIAN'S RAINBOW that, unless you're following the recording with a vocal score, you'll hopefully never hear where Messrs Walker and Bennett stop and I take over. Most of my work was in the new underscoring, and only a few portions of that made the recording. That's exactly how it should be, and I hope you enjoy it. And so to work.

TOD:
DVD: three Netflix items, DIDO AND AENEAS
CD: Guy Haines, Bruce Kimmel, Liz Callaway, FINIAN'S RAINBOW, a lot of McGlinn bootlegs
   VCR: smut

Because I have Jacques Offenbach standing on a high pedestal as one of the great theatre composers, I wsh that I liked THE HAPPIEST GIRL IN THE WORLD more than I do. Harburg chose Offenbach for two reasons: his outrageeous satires of Helen of Troy and the Orpheus and Eurydice legend and the fact that Offenbach as a dead composer was easier to deal with. The Lysistrata plot line doesn't work badly, but I think the tunes are great, a lot of Harburg's lyrics are good. and the original production with all of its undressed men as Olympian gods would have made it DR MBarnum's favorite musical ever.  The performances may have been charming but a lot of the women's singing may have come from Broadway names but it's worse than you'd hear in a 4th-rate production of one of Offenbach's own shows. Best voice: the wonderful Bruce Yarnell.

Hopefully it was not an attempt to relive a scene from the musical version of "Anna Karenina." Oh, that was under a train. My bad. (The chorus kept singing "On a train" so often that I wish I could have jumped, too. But I stayed through the end.)

Yesterday, I was down at Big Lots and I picked up (for $5) this 4-DVD set, THE UNKNOWN COLLECTION.

It has PBS documentaries on Jimmy Durante, Jonathan Winters, the Marx Brothers & Peter Sellers.

I watched the Durante one, and it's terrific; contains many, many clips from his 1950s TV show with guests like Frank Sinatra, John Wayne, Donald O'Connor, Sophie Tucker, etc.  If you love Durante, as I do, you will want to see this one.

Nobody has ever accused me of being smart or observant. I just started playing the revival of "House of Flowers," released on Kritzerland. I've seen that logo for 30 years now, ever since I found a used copy on vinyl priced at the then-too princely sum of $50 (even now that seems a little pricey). Anyway, it's the first time I ever realized the penile image in the logo.

DR Elmore, what kind of books are you sending to Miami U?

I'm cleaning out and paring down my library. The only things not going are music, books on musical theatre, opera, ballet, all composers, some novels, and others. They've received so far over 100 cartons from me of all my librettos and scripts, play collections, books scene and costume design, novels, a lot of books on folklore, a lot of signed editions from Ethan Mordden, Sondheim, and other writers I've known, artists and art, a ton of published sheet music, scores, my contracts, programs and Playbills, correspondence including all Sondheim letters, photos, all my editorial work and other ephemera, choral arrangements, several shows I've done regionally, compact discs, some videos and DVDs. This round, which is now in 16 cartons. includes all the editorial work on the 1903 WIZARD OF OZ and all my materials, invoices and contract for FINIAN's RAINBOW.

DR Jane do you still watch the MENTALIST? (no spoilers).  Last night's season finale was really good. I really did not want it to end!

I had quite the opposite reaction.  After a couple of years and much ado (and all the titles of episodes containing either the word "Red" or "Blood" in them), I thought the episode was predictable, Jane's character continued with the over-the-top annoyance factor, and it seemed a bit of a bore.  I was sorely disappointed.   I was rooting for Red John in that final scene in the old hotel.

Tonight are the season finales of GHOST WHISPERER and MEDIUM. And unless ABC picks up GW next Fall (which apparently there is still a good chance they will) then tonight is GHOST WHISPERER's last show.

I really hope that ABC does pick it up. But re: CBS cancelling the show.  To me if they want to cancel it they have the right. But they should have decided before the finale was airing, to allow the writers to end the show properly. After 5 years it just shows that CBS has no respect for their fans.

I used to watch that show, DR MBARNUM.....they might be hard pressed to come up with 4 episodes that are actually funny.....although Cleo the Bassett Hound usually told it like it was.

She was sitting on the kitchen stove one day...and said:

"Now and then I just get the urge to ride the range."

TRYST TWIST REVEALED IN ART BUNGLE

In a surprising turn of developments, Monkey's representative, Jose Simbulon, revealed that Monkey spent Thursday evening with him and therefore could not have been at the Paris Museum of Modern Art.

See the interview with Simbulon on CBS News later today....and catch Monkey on NBC: DATELINE - "To Catch an Ape."

Thanks for sharing that clip, Jose, from Jimmy Kimmel.  I don't think there was a spoiler in sight, though.

You're welcome DR Ron Pulliam.  As for my "POSSIBLE SPOILER ALERT", well, there is at least one DR who will not be watching this current season until it comes out on video, so... And just in case any other DR happened to be 2 or 3 episodes behind.  -And, again, the spoilers were more in the intro rather than the clip itself. I think. Or something like that. ::)

Well, I started listening to the "Finian's Rainbow" recording, and you're right, DR Elmore, I probably don't know your contributions, but there is so much more music on this recording that I fell in love with it all over again. Burton Lane was such a great composer, and this score has it all. Plus, the singers are wonderful. I hope to finish it tomorrow when I get to work.

I was thinking about the first time I encountered this show: It was in freshman Latin class in high school, of all places. Don't know why but we saw the movie in installments every day for a week. But the music was great then, it's great now and I'm sure it was great to be a part of it.

Late last night the attorney representing the American simian suspect in the heist earlier this week of almost five millions dollars worth of art work from the Paris Museum of Modern Art said that his client does not even have a passport, nor can he lift anything weighing more than 2 grams.

I still remember watching Jimmy Durante whenI was a little girl - did we ever find out who Mrs. Callahan was?

How did you come yo pick this school for your collection?  Are they keeping all your things together as a collection?

Yesterday on my bike ride i saw the cutest thing. There were 2 geese on the grass across from the lake. And they had a whole bunch of babies with them (that looked like baby ducks but i guess were baby geese). It would have been cute to see them in the lake. But it was just that much sweeter to see them all taking a walk!

We have these all over teh place here on Long Island = the Canadian geese have stopped migrating and just live here year round - they make mess of the playgrounds and schoolyards  -

Um, excuse me. According to the release I just signed, I believe tonight's "Dateline" is going to be titled: "The Simian-Simbulan Symbiosis".

It has PBS documentaries on Jimmy Durante, Jonathan Winters, the Marx Brothers & Peter Sellers.

More than a film about sports, this is a story of immigration, assimilation, bigotry, heroism, the passing on of traditions, and the shattering of stereotypes.

Fans including Ron Howard and Larry King connect the stories of baseball to their own lives, and to the turbulent history of the last century. Their stories are inter-cut with dramatic and never-before-seen film clips and photos of great Jewish players, unforgettable games, and the broad sweep of American history.

Well, they made a hit musical of RAGTIME,....so.....

And they had that great baseball song in RAGTIME. Maybe now it's time for a whole baseball musical! Good thinking...

Re: yesterday's question about Mary McDonnell's character on THE CLOSER, yes, we will be seeing much more of her this season. She kind of annoys me but other folks seem to like her a lot, so I was just curious.

CLOSER will be back July 2nd.

Sounds like you are warning us her character doesn't get more endearing.

No, but she is really spinning the plot, so that's good!

JEWS AND BASEBALL.  I guess it says it all.  Not as clever as some titles that were suggested, but I guess we will live with it.

Believe me, we tried them all on, and then some, but ended up with the original: JEWS AND BASEBALL: AN AMERICAN LOVE STORY, and I'm happy with it.

JEWS ON FIRST was a runner-up, but the consensus was that the reference was too dated. (I, of course, got it...)

I grew up with Basset Hounds, and one of my earliest memories is of a Little Golden Book about Cleo.  The show had already gone off the air by the time I was born, but I was convinced the doggie in the book was "my" Happy, despite her name.  ;)

Hi, Hainsies, we're home!

Thank you to DRs Dan(the Man) and Jane for the travel vibes.  It took us 8 and a half hours to get home, longer than usual due to blinding rain from Merrillville, IN to Indianapolis - and I was driving most of the time.  We've been home a couple of hours, unpacked and had a bite to eat.  It's raining again.
