Well, you've read the notes, the notes were signed, and now it is time for you to post until the signed cows come home.

Welcome seven GUESTS.

This afternoon, I'll be ushering at the Washington Center for the Performing Arts at a showing of the San Francisco Opera Cinema Series: Madame Butterfly (http://www.washingtoncenter.org/season/season_detail.asp?event_id=1101).  It's one in a series of four (I think) filmed operas that are shown this season at WCPA.  I've seen a couple of the HD Met broadcasts and these are just as good. :)

After that, I'll come home and watch "Lost" until it's all over...including the Jimmy Kimmel show.

If you write anything about LOST please (That's four pleases) remember to include the word spoiler. I will not be watching and will be seeing it later. I want to be surprised (if that's what happens) when I see it.

Thank you very much

I haven't decided yet what i am going to watch tonight. I really want to watch both the LOST and CELEBRITY APPRENTICE finales. But i don't think I will be alert at 11:30pm. I might watch the first hour of LOST and then catch up APPRENTICE. And I won't need much concentration to focus on the latter.

Although if i start LOST and it's good i probably won't want to stop watching. Maybe i should take a nap!

I've always thought that the Astaire/Kelly pairing in that one was charming.

Thank you very much

DR Michael Shayne - Have you read this article from the NY Times:

‘Lost’ Fans Suffer From Blabbermouths Online (http://www.nytimes.com/2010/05/22/technology/22lost.html)

-Although, if you haven't watched any of the episodes this season, you probably shouldn't read that article.

-And I really do wish you well in regards to staying away from "Lost" SPOILERS.  I have a feeling that this one is going to be very hard to avoid.  There's just way too much mainstream media coverage of the whole event, phenomenon.

Just like some of the people in the above article - which you may or may not have read - are you going to turn "off" all of your social media sites (Facebook, MySpace, Twitter), change your browser's homepage, not look at any newspapers tomorrow morning, not watch the TV news, etc., etc., etc.... For the next week... two weeks... ???

Good morning, all! As soon as I finished my post last night, I changed some of my Facebook account information, and I hope that keeps the hackers away. I went to bed around 11, was awakened by the slamming door and thuds from the neighbor above me. This went on till around 2am.  So, when the alarm went off at 7, i decided to sleep for another hour, and suddenly it was 10 am. I'm moving about but my mental and physical energy levels are quite low. I don't know if it's fatigue or depression, neother of which i want, so I won't go down to Toyland this morning but work here.

I wish this new music store Dowling Music well. Bruce bought a hardcover score for TURANDOT, and I was hoping to find something, but their stock is mostly still in cartons, and I found little interesting while I was there. It was a bit of a nightmare wandering through crowds of folk who seemed more to be there to be seen than to see.  I'll go back in a couple of weeks and browse the store more thoroughly. When I got there and found all these young buff caterers/bartenders, I thought I'd fallen into Barnum heaven, a scary thought, and both Bruce Pomahac and I were wondering the whys and wherefores of the catering decision. There was a scandal a couple of years ago when one of the City Opera bigwigs put a young buff protege on the City Opera payroll and the protege later wrote a book on being a male escort for Important Opera Queens. Perhaps they were all young proteges-in-training?

I didn't know Michael Kuchwara; he was a friend of my friend Tommy Krasker of PS Classics, and I'm sorry to read of his death.

BK, I'm glad to hear the reading went well.

DR Kerry, I feel the exact same way. I think the last Big Ending of a series I watched was SEINFELD and it was a real letdown for that brilliant series.

It really was quite the interesting crowd. Not only were there some buff catering bois, but there were also some buff attendees - fellow musicians? publisher reps? arrangers? - in addition to some of the more Society types.  -And there was a photographer taking pics of everyone with the owner and managers.

However, I'm wondering if someone just recommended the catering company, and the company just happened to employ models. -There are at least two catering companies I know of that do just that.

That's possible, but I honestly would expect for the grand opening of a classical music shop something more in the lines of the Carnegie Hall ladies and gentlemen than a display of biceps and tiny waists.

I'm just bummed I missed Peter Filichia and Michael Feinstein!

The truth as stupid as it may seem.

I did not show up to the book signing because I got up too late to care about putting on anything other than I'm taking my car in for service clothes with a 4 hour wait.  Which I get to do again next Saturday morning as they did not have all the parts.

I was too embarrassed to show up.  And that's the truth.

Other than that, this morning I listened to an hour of Philly Soul music, and an hour of Good ol' Nashville music, trying to cry.   But to no avail, my tear ducts have dried up.

Another damn thing to go to the doctor about.  My eyes have been red for months.

Friday night was very depressing, physical things are hitting me like a hammer, and I have no control over them.  (Reason for getting up late on Saturday).

Doing yard work late afternoon yesterday, was the best way to combat the blues.

Today I seem to be back to normal, I've decided I'm just not able to be miserable anymore.

My life is still really good.

You can keep the first one as a coaster - everything is right about the disc except the label.  And I understand everything you're saying but a phone call would have been nice, because when I think someone is coming, I don't start until they're there - so I kept holding, not just for you, but for a couple of others as well.  We finally went on.

I wonder if it will be hard to stay away from spoilers. It's not like a show where there is a winner. And it's not likely the finale is going to have one concrete ending where you can sum it up in a few words. I would suspect the finale is going to be complicated with lots of different bits and pieces to process.

Although that said i'm going to try not to go on the internet/entertainment sites until i watch. Cause i don't want to be spoiled.  Tomorrow is a holiday in Canada. But that said i think my nieces will be showing up quite early as we're going on a picnic.

Loved High Times on Lower Fourth Street.   This town was WILD in it's day, mob, gambling, liquor when it was outlawed, cops on the take....it was really fun to see the video.  Glad they have preserved the memories for future generations

Who was your favorite all-time TV crush?  When you were a teenager, that one person (actor or actress) on the TV screen that made your heart go pitter patter.

Without a doubt - Chuck Conners, THE RIFLEMAN

ooh -= Bobby Sherman, Donny Osmond or Peter Deuel... hard to say

Peter Duel by far!!!!  Of course this doesn't count for me as I wasn't a teenager anymore. :)  I cried when he died, such a waste.

I don't see this on the web yet, but Carol said it would be published today, so I'll share it this way

Quote
The phone call came on a Saturday afternoon this spring.
It was one of those “you don’t know me, but ...”
“Good heavens, what now?” I wondered.
I needn’t have been apprehensive, because the woman, whose name is Priscilla, went on to explain that she now owns the home in Iowa where I grew up, and she was interested in its history.
How had she located me? She explained that the previous owner from whom she bought the house had given her one of my columns written in the late 1990s about a trip back to Sioux City for a high school reunion. I had visited my old home, met the then-owners, toured the house and written about the memories this revived. Because she had my name, she just took a chance that I would still be living in Greenville.
Since that time we’ve exchanged a number of letters and discovered several interesting coincidences:
• Priscilla is originally from Estherville, Iowa. My mother’s first name was Esther.
• Priscilla is an attorney doing family and criminal law. So is my daughter.
• Priscilla took a class in Sioux City history when she first moved there, and one of the people she learned about was my grandfather, Andrew Anderson, who saved the lives of 27 people but lost his own in the great flood of 1892.
• Priscilla loves the house. So do I, and most important of all, she wants to preserve and return it to its original state, or as close as is feasible.
My father had the house built in 1934 from a plan he and my mother had found in a magazine. The structure was of brick and stone, in a style called French Normandy, or so my mother said.
Priscilla has been working on restoration for four years now, and so far has put in a new furnace and air conditioning. (There was no A/C when I lived there. Air conditioning was reserved for places like the Orpheum Theater.) Carpeting has been replaced, and she removed some hideous wallpaper and put new countertops in the kitchen.
“I am somewhat of a history buff and am getting more and more interested in historic preservation,” she wrote. “I have been looking into the history of the people who have owned this house, primarily your family because they built it and lived here the longest.”
“Getting into the history of ‘our’ house has led me into doing more historic preservation work in Sioux City,” she continued. “I’m trying to help save the buildings that are of historic interest and in good enough shape to be restored.”
You cannot imagine how grateful I am that someone who cares about the place now owns my former home. When I was in high school my mother, who had been widowed for a few years, decided to drive out to the area on the outskirts of town where she had been raised. The place was a wreck, she said on returning. “I wish I had never gone there. I would rather have remembered it as it was.”
Before Priscilla bought our house, I had returned to Sioux City for yet another school reunion, and on a drive through our old neighborhood I spotted a “For Sale” sign on the lawn. All of my immediate family were now gone, and the empty house was a reminder of their absence.
English writer Samuel Butler expressed my feelings perfectly: “An empty house is like a stray dog or a body from which life has departed.”
But now there’s life in the house and it has a future.
Priscilla wrote me that “during this past winter when the temps were very cold, the wind was blowing and the snow was very deep, there were four deer who would curl up at night around the tree in the front yard. It was such a peaceful sight.”
Bear in mind that this is a developed neighborhood, not out in the country, and the thought of deer coming into the yard and resting there is a priceless image to me.
Yes, Greenville is my home now. It’s where my husband and I raised our five children and I love the place and take pleasure in those memories.
But my childhood memories are at home in Iowa, and they are at peace.

DR Cillaliz, who do you think is gonna win on CELEBRITY APPRENTICE. I really wanted the finale to be sharon vs holly. And with it being Bret vs Holly i thought Holly would run away with it. It will be interesting to see how they do on the final task, if Bret is even able to really participate (he is supposed to go). I wonder if Trump would not give it to Bret just based on all he's been through.I sort of can't see him losing now.

I prefer the all chocolate ice cream sandwiches. The problem is i just want to eat them all!

Lately when they've been on sale they've only had all vanilla or neapolitan. It's not my favorite kind of ice cream. But i do like both chocolate and strawberry (more than vanilla).

I think i would like an ice cream sandwich with my favorite ice creams. That would be tasty.

Guns of Will Sonnett Cast

Walter Brennan as Will Sonnett
Dack Rambo as Jeff Sonnett

The estimable Walter Brennan played the elder (he was 73 at the time) Will Sonnett, whose own son James had left Will's infant grandson, Jeff in his care. 19 years pass and still no James, so both Will and Jeff set out to find him. They run into many people who claim to know the elusive James, who has become a gunslinger. Some folks speak well of him and others ill. They never found him. However, in the last original episode they meet a man who claims to have killed James. Live by the gun...

Trivia - Dack Rambo was the twin brother of Dirk Rambo, who died in 1967 in a fire.
Dack Rambo died in 1994 of AIDS.

Most definitely Dack.  :)

I guess in a slow theater news cycle, the story of the audience getting boisterous at FENCES with Denzel Washingotn & Viola Davis seems to be popping up quite a bit.  i don't know how different this is from what would happen at the James Earl Jones - Mary Alice version of FENCES in the 1980's - but it seems that two parodies are called for (based logically as a parody of Billy Joel's "An Innocent Man" mirroring  the famous "You are a  womanless man" line in FENCES, which always gets a raucous reaction.

the boisterous and shorter "Michael & Susan" version  [named as parodies of Riedel and Haskins]

and a more straightforwardly sung version (a little longer, the scratch demo, which has some old lyrics but is more musical somehow)

I went to see "Fenes" with Billy Dee Williams after James Earl jones left. When the scene comes when Troy brings the baby home, there wee several audible black men in the audience cheering him on and telling him to put the woman in her place and make her take the baby. It was a little shocking and yet I've noticed that I heard that same boisterous, talk-back-at-the-screen conversations when I saw "Waiting to Exhale" on opening night in a movie theater. Or any of Tyler Perry's movies. I guess it's a cultural thing, like the demonstrations you'll find in black churches on Sunday mornings. They're a lot less quiet than my conservation Lutheran background.

The San Francisco Opera's filmed production of "Madame Butterfly" today was very good!  The guy playing Pinkerton was very nice to look at (click HERE (http://sfopera.com/cinemaseries/) for a video clip). ;)

After the opera, I came home and instead of watching some TV (I have four episodes of "Doctor Who" to watch) or get on the computer, I FINALLY started reading BK's autobiography, "There's Mel, There's Woody, and There's You": My Life in the Slow Lane (http://www.amazon.com/Theres-Mel-Woody-You-Life/dp/1452011176/ref=tmm_hrd_title_0)."  I was able to read all the way through chapter three.  I love it!  Can't wait to continue...and I won't wait so long to do so. :D

Not looking good for my viewing anything this evening, let alone Lost.  We're still trying one last thing, otherwise I have to wait until Wendesday to watch anything as that's when the technician will come.

This is so infuriating.  It's obviously not getting enough signal, although why this is happening all of a sudden (there was a problem last week, but it was momentary and then everything was fine) is anyone's guess.  I looked at the dish on the roof and nothing is obstructing it.  They had me pull the power cord, and also swap the two cables into the receiver (just reversing where they were), but we can't get past the first reset screen, which is the "checking cable signal" screen.  If we can't get past that I get no picture, period.

Add to that the fact that I'm uploading a huge file to iDisk because my mastering guy wanted AIFF instead of mp3 - and that takes forty-five minutes, during which the computer runs slowly and badly.

I don't suppose there's any place online that streams the show live?

Maybe the whole country watching one tv show at one time is sucking all of the signal.

Not live...as far as I know.  Usually network websites will have shows available on-line the next day, but not at the same time as the TV broadcast.

Ooh, finally got past step one.  Now we're on step two - getting the satellite information.  We have fourteen minutes to do that and hopefully get a working picture.

We are a go, picture-wise - just came back and is working.  If it now will only hold for the next three hours, we'll be very happy.  I'm still going to have the technician come out to see why these things are happening - could be a bad receiver or something, since this is the second sort of problem I've had.

Who was your favorite all-time TV crush?  When you were a teenager, that one person (actor or actress) on the TV screen that made your heart go pitter patter.

Without a doubt - Chuck Conners, THE RIFLEMAN

Jim (then "Jm") J. Bullock was my very first TV actor crush.  Probably the next one was John Corbett from "Northern Exposure."  Two very different types of men. ;)

Not entirely sure the picture will hold out - it's not pixilating yet, but it's jerky and unstable.  And this is not a short show.

I'm watching the recap too, JRand.  I also haven't watched it since the first season so we'll see if I watch the final....I'm more interested in Celebrity Apprentice.

I know there probably aren't that many people who watch both but i can't figure out why they put the CELEBRITY APPRENTICE finale at the same time as the LOST finale. I really want to watch both.

I watched both.  I recorded both and went back and forth.  I just finished

Will we make it to commercial six?  This is as exciting as the final episode of Lost.  I think the little dialogue exchange leading into commercial six is giving an idea of where it's going.

Funny thing is I've probably only seen one or two episodes since the first season and the recap was enough for me to be ready to watch the final.

Interestingly, even when the picture was frozen earlier this evening, the sound was working fine.  So, minimally I can at least HEAR the episode to its conclusion.

Why does LOST sound like a bigger shaggy dog story to me than TWIN PEAKS was?  I remember all the time I invested in that series to have it all come to naught with nothing resolved and everything more confusing in the end than it was at the beginning...At least I never watched LOSt...

Well, we made it - it was sketchy but it held.  As to the ending?  Well, it made Lost fans very happy.  Did they answer all the questions that they promised would be answered all season?  No.  And frankly it was probably not the writers and producers who made that promise - it was the stupid ABC Television network promo people.  And the ending left as many questions as it answered, if one wants to take the ending literally.
