Title: MOOT
Post by: bk on May 25, 2010, 12:07:06 AM
Well, you've read the notes, you know why the notes were moot, and now it is time for you to post until the moot cows come home, moot being one of the cows' favorite words on account of the MOOt.

Topic of the Day:  one of my all-time favorites is Ain't Misbehavin':

And I love the way the original vinyl album was one picture from the front to the back...I just wish that there was a picture of the whole thing.  I could only find pictures of the front:

There's the "Follies" poster. In its own universe.

And the coupling couples of the original "A Little Night Music."

I hated the way they filled in the couples for the movie poster of the same. Made it cheap, like parts of the movie.

And I loved everything about the design for "On the 20th Century":

I don't know if I could pick a favorite movie poster, but here are a couple that come to mind:

"Brazil":

"The Band Wagon":

"Hairspray" (Even in Spanish):

"Hannah and Her Sisters." If I remember correctly, Woody Allen told the New York Times that when he saw the poster, he saw the film that he had wanted to make:

Good morning, all! I will head down to Toyland around 11 or so; I have a date there to work on some edits with Mr Skip Kennon. Until then, I have to vacuum the apartment, edit some ROSE OF ALGERIA scores, think about my July 9 WIZARD OF OZ presentation, and see what fresh hell today brings.

TNT was having a LAW & ORDER blitz last night, so I watched reruns until 10. I also looked at a new book on Broadway press agent Merle Debuskey and  answered some questions I had by checking bits of Steve Suskin's book on Broadway orchestration.

I orchestrated that for john McGlinn's 1985 Carnegie Recital Hall performances. It was an addition to the original London production of NO NO NANETTE, scored by Russell Bennett, and McGlinn had no full score for that number, so he asked me to do it.

And James McMullan (http://www.jamesmcmullan.com/index.htm) still does a lot of work for Lincoln Center.

I will stop into Triton Gallery (http://www.tritongallery.com/) every once in a while to take a look at their collection of McMullan sketches and posters (http://tritongallery.com/triton/frameset_mcmullan.htm). DR Cillaliz i am also cheering for Derek and Nicole on DANCING WITH THE STARS. And i truly think they will win.

re: last night's show I think they did the best. Although i was so upset for them that they partially missed that last lift. That freestyle routine was amazing and they would have gotten all 10s.

It's sort of an advantage for them that derek has been in the finals so many times. And he knows exactly what to do for a freestyle. Anna seemed so out of her element, i felt bad for her. I didn't love their routine but i thought it was better than what the judges were saying about it.

I wasn't crazy about erin's final dance. I think she lost the title there (not sure that she ever could have win).

I think based on the season and on last night's momentum i would be surprised if nicole did not win. Although it is definitely possible that evan could pull it off. But i don't think that many people would have voted for him based on what he did last night. I know i was voting for both evan and nicole all season. But last night i only voted for nicole.

And then I find these two posters, both for classic Bollywood films of the late 40s, favorites. Both are done in an unusual style that reminds me of German expressionism.

Not sure that the posters are effective representations of the actual films, but they do have an interesting artsy quaility to them, and could make nice home decor.

Greetings from Toyland! I have misplaced a carton of orchestra scores and I have no idea where the hell they may be. I took the office apart yesterday, and then I thought I might have carted them home. They aren't there, and I sincerely doubt the cleaning man took them from the office, so where the fat hell are they?

I am most perplexed.

So, today I received this 5-disc DVD box set that I bought through Amazon Marketplace.

I opened the mailer and, guess what!

The outer box with the art work was there, but there were no DVDs inside.

I called the guy, and he was also shocked.

Evidently, this box had been on display in his store, and (to prevent theft) the discs were kept elsewhere.

However, all's well that ends well.

He found the discs and is sending them overnight UPS to me.

It has been rightfully pointed out to me that the spelling of pus is pus not puss.  However, I chose the latter spelling because pus spelled backwards is sup and the thought of sup and pus together makes me want to vomit on the ground.

Oh, most assuredly.

LOL!

Doesn't the object of your use of the word also make you want to vomit on the ground?  ;)

I am uploading photos to my mom's costco account while i post here.

I can do 10 at a time.

They are having a sale. But i have to then order the pictures i want. ANd my mom made a list of a lot that she and my dad want. So i'll have to enter all those pics too.

And since i scrapbook i have a bunch i want.

They only take a couple minutes to load each 10. So that is good.

I hope i can read the notes my mom wrote for the pictures she wrote.

But i guess since she is paying for the pictures i will print all the ones she wants!

I totally disagree. I find him to be an incredible choreographer. And to me he calls much less attention to himself than someone like maks.  I think that nicole shines in every dance that she does with derek. Just my opinion.

And I totally disagree.  He might be a good choreographer, but I've never seen a female dancer twitch herself across a dance floor like Derek does.  I'm embarrassed for him every time I watch him.

Speaking of that nightmare, it was six months ago today I had my surgery.  I am truly grateful I don't feel as I did back then & that my legs function so I can take my walks and hike.  I just thought my shoulder & arm would be working better by now.  The PT guy keeps reminding me what I had was exceptionally traumatic, more so than regular breaks.

Well, I'm off to the Washington Center for the Performing Art's Volunteer Appreciation dinner!  They're going to announce their next season.  That'll be fun.  They also have door prizes and last year I won two tickets to any WCPA-sponsored event during this past season.  I went to Avenue Q in February!  Maybe I'll win something again.

Be back later!

I used to have the Equus poster and Dreamgirls. All the submission have been good. And I agree on the boring Assassins poster. Which leads me to the question: What other posters do you find lackluster?

I was not a fan of the red David Merrick poster with just type. I would have liked more than a logo for "I Can Get It for You Wholesale." Yet I liked the simplicity of the type against the blue skies for "On a Clear Day ..."

Thank you John G.  There is one spot, and always has been, that has given me the most trouble.  Of course it is going to be the last place to stop hurting.  The problem is, when it does the sharp burning pain it does so well I have to ease back off of my exercises.  Of course that means I'm not moving forward.  Anywhere else I'm permitted to push through the pain & ignore it.

Please forgive my complaining a little.  I really think my attitude has been good & I'm not depressed or anything.  I had a nice day.  We went to the dentist this morning & now my teeth are clean.  Sherlock waited in the car as we took him to the pet store & then for a hike before coming home.
