Well, you've read the notes, the notes pulled something and we're not sure what, and now it is time for you to post until the pulled cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: ASPERITY!
-
Kiss my ASPERITY!
-
Morning all.
That is all.
-
Morning, all.
-
Sorry to hear about your pulled whatever, BK. Hope it heals quickly.
-
I have no memory this morning for the TOD. The only person I can think of is Jennifer Warren, who was always a welcome presence, warm and relaxed, even if her acting wasn't of the broadest range. I saw "Night Moves" again recently and enjoyed seeing her again.
-
TOD
It's a little difficult since I don't know their names, but a good deal of them showed up on Barney Miller
-
Bruce -- good luck with the back and the "helper."
"I Pulled Something"-- would make a great song title.
-
Act Three went well last night....and so tonight is our first run thru of the whole show.....we shall see.
I am re-doing the Sound Cue cd's.....and then we shall see what happens.
TOD:
Rad Fulton
Andrew Prine
Louise Latham
Randy Boone
-
There is a whole lot of running and pouncing going on in this room.
-
TOD:
Some of my very early publicity clients fit into that "unknown, stalwart" actor category. Among them:
Charles Waggenhiem, who did 100s of small roles, but might best be remembered as the assassin in Hitchcock's FOREIGN CORRESPONDENT.
James Griffth, who (among his 100s of parts) played the deputy on the old John Bromfield series, SHERIFF OF COCHISE.
Reed Hadley, "Captain Braddock" or RACKET SQUAD and possessor of one of the best known voices in movies.

Andrew Prine
He had a great career going for him, but then his name was (innocently) tied to the Karen Kupsenut murder...and that was it.

And The Song Of The Day Is: TREAT ME ROUGH

Good morning, all! This morning I really screwed up and for some reason thought I had the day off. I called my brother Randy for his birthday around 8:45 and told hm that I had slept in and had to be up tomorrow at 6:30. At 9:15 Zak Stains called to ask me where I was; I totally missed the McGlinnventory today. Oy!
So, I do have LADY OF THE SLIPPER things to work on, as well as WIZARD OF OZ, and that's what I'm doing. I also got a phone call from the shippers about resending the Fed Ex delivery that was all screwed up, and I learned we never received a delivery notification because the cartons had been sent to the address of our office 10 years ago. That's all corrected now.
Andrew Prine married the Oxford OH townie Heather Something who played Kim MacAfee in the 1968 disaster of BYE BYE BIRDIE for Miami U Summer Theatre. There were a lot of local high schoolers in the production, many of them talented and wonderful and I hope they are well and thriving. Several of them are friends today and I would love to know where some of the others are now. Heather and her clique - I believe there were three of them - were what we would now call "mean girls," very pretty, sexy, and very evil. I didn't like her then and I haven't changed my opinion in 40 years.

Zachary Stains never calls and asks where I am.

Andrew Prine was on THE VIRGINIAN several times and I first remember him from THE WIDE COUNTRY tv series with Earl Holliman, MR BK's neighbor.
Of course to me he will always be SIMON KING OF THE WITCHES

Times change. She's 60 now, if she's a day. 1968 is 42 years ago. In 1968, she was an evil bitch who did mean and humiliating things to a guy in the cast who found her attractive (so evil I cannot mention them on a family site).

Thursday morning greetings! The tree guys are back today taking out another tree that Richard discussed with them while I was away. They could have trimmed it now for a couple hundred dollars and then come back in a few years to take it out completely, but we decided just to have them go ahead and remove it. Things are pretty exciting outside our family room right now and I'll have some pictures later.

TOD:
Andrew Prine
He had a great career going for him, but then his name was (innocently) tied to the Karen Kupsenut murder...and that was it.
I remember that he had been identified as the boyfriend -- or ex-boyfriend -- of Karen Kupcinet. But I always associated the end of his career with his Playgirl layout...which made him seem sort of desperate to revive his career with beefcake titillation.
-
Actually DR RP - Andrew's layout was in the May 1974 issue of VIVA magazine.....not that I know anything about it or ever saw it.
-
Mt friend Steven LaBrie has just gone from vocal student to recognition on the Barihunks site. I sent him an email to congratulate him. I think he's singing in the Glimmerglass Opera season this summer. In the fall, he records Victor Herbert songs for us.

Not Actually TOD: This doesn't fit the true sense of BK's wanting to hear of our favorite actors/actresses who were "backbones" in films of the 60s or 70s, but I would be remiss if I didn't single out Catherine Burns as one of my favorite actresses from the late 60s-early 70s. She scored a supporting actress Oscar nomination for her role as Rhoda in "Last Summer" alongside Richard Thomas, Barbara Hershey and Bruce Davison., and she was totally wonderful in Hal Wallis' "Red Sky At Morning."
In both of those films, she more than held her own with Thomas. In "Red Sky", Desi Arnaz Jr. was also very good. Richard Thomas had made a strong impression on me in the Paul Newman-Joanne Woodward-Robert Wagner film "Winning". He played Woodward's son, and he had a wonderful scene with Newman in which he got inebriated (on very little alcohol). Those three films, plus a very-little-seen film called "Cactus in the Snow" are the only "films" in which I've seen Thomas. He, of course, went into "The Waltons" and became part of TV history. I really thought he was one of the finest actors of his generation. His random appearances on TV now annoy me a great deal as he's always cast as someone just a bit "off", or someone undeserving of his wife or girlfriend or job, etc.

Really! I had forgotten about VIVA. So...Burt Reynolds in Cosmopolitan, Prine in VIVA, Peter Lupus and Sam J. "Flash Gordon" Jones and a slew of other actors/celebs who posed nude/semi-nude in Playgirl.
Aside from Reynolds, I can't think of a one of them who had a career boost as a result.
Apart from that, however, I think some very good actors took a shot at getting greater exposure, but didn't find it resulting in film roles.

We have had, thus far, a very odd April/May/June in the Bay Area. Normally the temps are in the upper 70s-lower 80s. The norm seems to be the upper 50s-lower 60s this year. We are expecting today to be a warm day after several days of cool (and I'm talking nights in the mid-40s and me with my covers pulled up and my mattress warmer on a low setting).
I don't mind this at all, however, as I think cool weather is more "preserving" than warm.
;)

I wonder if the long-absent invoices found their way into BK's hands last night.

Yes, invoices tonight by midnight.

I'm up - the new phone is working because it just awakened me.

Now I have to learn the ins and outs of this here new phone - that's always fun.

Very pretty outside.

Last night during the first break, Liz who plays Edith, came to me to say that there was a beautiful Beagle doggie wandering the property. It had a tag. She asked if she should phone the owners.
I said sure.....the owners were very glad to recover their doggie and came within 20 minutes to pick him up!
-
And Linda who plays Madame Arcati did the Call to Spirits and something showed up in ONE photo. :o
-
I've programmed some numbers in the phone - took me a little while to get it down - all phones do it slightly different.

Here's what was parked in front of our house when I got up this morning:
-
I bet the trees are scared.

And here's one of the guys - way up there. The dormer is one of the windows in Rob's bedroom.

Here's the reason this tree had to go - rotten to the core:

This is what's left at lunchtime:

Finally, here I am with my mom and the husband of her late cousin at his 90th birthday party this past Saturday:

I just had a pleasant surprise phone call from my 87 year-old friend Bob Ullman, who was calling about the recording of LIFE BEGINS AT 8:40, which he saw in 1934. He also saw the original ANYTHING GOES. Bob was the press agent for the Public Theatre for years and the 1960s revival of THE BOYS FROM SYRACUSE off-Broadway.

Off to the grocery. Fortunately, DH Richard pulled my car out of the garage before that big truck blocked me in.
Bye for now!
-
It's a shame you had to cut the tree down, Ginny. But I guess if it was rotten, better now than have it come down during a storm!
-
Yes, DR Laura, we've been talking about how lucky we were 2 years ago when Hurricane Ike paid us a visit that both of the trees we've had removed this month survived that storm. Especially today's tree - it would have done major damage to our house as it's right outside our family room, which has a one-story roof and where we spend a lot of time.
-
I'm glad I had our pine tree examined and trimmed by an arborist. He said it's healthy and in no danger of falling in a monsoon storm.
-
How did you know the tree was rotten inside when there were all those green leaves on it?
-
The growth was all at the top and branches were falling off closer to the ground. We really didn't know how rotten it was until we saw the cross-sections.

How Lovely to Be a Woman

WIGGLES IS FREE AND AT HOME!!!!!! Waiting for details, but I am so glad to hear this!

Good news, Cillaliz!

Yes it is. A vicious Shih Tzu is an oxymoron if you ask me

I don't know what's come over the little Yorkie that attends our church (yes, you read that correctly). He has been barking like mad at one of the adults who escorts one of the children attending Vacation Bible School. I have hardly ever heard the Yorkie bark at church before. He's always very quiet.

What did you do to provoke him? :-*

Perhaps that adult either mistreated the Yorkie, resembles someone who mistreated the Yorkie, wears the same cologne as someone who mistreated the yorkie....or the Yorkie just doesn't like him

Off to book group...bye for now!

Given the fact that I totally screwed up my morning, this has been a pretty good day. I just had two Chinese dishes for dinner and I'm ready to chill out.

I am glad Wiggles is free.
Now, I wish they would come after the Pit Bull that jumped over his fence and acosted Bosco and I during our morning walk down the alley behind my house. I was sure it was going to be my last day on earth. Fortunately, I stood very still (although I was yelling at it to go away), Bosco also did not react to it (thankfully) and neither of us were attacked. But that damned thing came right at me and stood barking and growling, ferociously, not two inches from me. It was scary. I was so shook up I had to stop and buy a chocolate cake donut on the way to work.
This creature (it looks like satan) has gotten out of it's yard several times over the last few years, and one day it is going to hurt somebody.
-
I had that happen once on my morning coffee walk, MBarnum. I am not afraid of dogs, but that was the end of my coffee walks.
-
What a kooky day this has been. I have been all over the place doing this and that and also that and this. I can't even remember everything I've done. I got up, that I remember. Then I had a few telephonic conversations, that I remember. I printed out orders, I saw some potential covers for our next release, one of which was really wonderful - so, we'll go with that with some minor adjustments. Then I returned the extra handset from the phone I got yesterday - the salesman hadn't realized that I bought one that already came with two handsets. I used the credit to buy some more printer ink. After that, I got my car washed. After that, I picked up three big boxes of boxes, in anticipation of addressing a whole slew o' boxes come Monday - I actually think this is going to take two days to do - it's quadruple the number we usually address. We'll see how it goes. Even if we get them all addressed, the postage will probably have to be done on a subsequent day.
-
I will admit to screaming like a little girl, which brought a neighbor out of his house and he pulled the dog away from me. The owner came out and looked like she had no idea what could possibly be wrong.
-
I also got a couple of other packages. I then went to Bed and Bath to buy a new toothbrush holder. Whilst there, I decided to replace my six-year-old bedding, which has been really irritating me lately. I've had this stuff forever, the down comforter has been shedding something awful, the cover over the comforter is dark, dark brown and very oppressive - so, I just bought new sheets, new cover, new comforter and new shams for the throw pillows. It's a whole new look and much, much lighter and more sunny. I opted for beige, because the rugs are a sort of beige - it's amazing how the whole room came alive. The only thing I couldn't do was put the new skirt on the bed - I guess you sort of have to lift the mattress up to do it - so I'll do that when she of the Evil Eye is here on Saturday. They were out of the sheets, so those will be sent to me free of charge, within the week. Meanwhile my old sheets are beige so that's fine for now.
-
Hey, Bruce, I assume you got my order for Promises, Promises in the mail. I'm so old fashioned that way.
-
Got it yesterday.

I'm thinkin' we'll want to be off page three and I do mean soon.

I had to laugh about the chocolate cake doughnut. You have the address, why not call & report the dog? Have you spoken to the owners?

$695? How in the world??

DR Laura, are you suffering from smoke in the air?

DR Ginny, I enjoyed the photos. I'm also relieved those threes have been cut down. :)

My sister has Qwest. She lives in Minnesota. Her husband called to cancel a couple of things (they had Encores and Starz and some other premium channels they no longer wanted). Qwest ending up zapping their voice mail and screwing up the entire account. It took a couple of days to get things straightened out.
I am SO glad I don't have cable anymore.

Jane, the fires are way up north and way down south. I did hear about one on the west side of town today, though. Is there another one?

I have to admit that a lot of big dogs scare me. I don't have a problem with having restrictions on how they are kept in the back yard. No one deserves to be attacked. Our city ordinance came from a good place, just had no exceptions. So it treats a shih tzu nipping the same as a pit bull attacking. That's a problem.
-
I'd report the pit bull, MBarnum or at least tell the owners what happened
-

Not that I know of. Here we have had problems with smoke from fires a long way off so I was concerned about you.

all I have been doing is working - so tired Ikeep dozing off while trying to ketchup

Go to bed, Vixmom.
-
Saw Jose Carreras tonight. He sang alone with piano accompaniment and no mike or other amplification for about 90 minutes. Yes, his voice may not be what it once was, but it was still a lovely evening.
-
Which magazine did David Hasselhof pose in with a strategically placed dog? Was that also Cosmo?
-
And with that, it's time for bed. Night, all.
-
The owner of the dog is well aware of it's activities. They keep nailing boards higher, and higher on their back fence to keep it from jumping over, but to no avail.
Since the dog did not harm me or Bosco I wouldn't think there would be anything to report, but next time I see it running loose I will call for sure.
As a rule I am not afraid of dogs at all, big or small...but this thing seemed way ferocious and it did scare me, by golly.
-
And by gum.
-
And buy bonds.

The bulk of the overcharge was actually due to Verizon, which had strangely pro-rated our minutes (even though they billed for an entire month) and then charged us for our usage over the pro-ration, even though we were well under our monthly plan minutes. The Verizon guy was completely stumped as to what had happened, but he quickly agreed it was their error and put through a credit.
The other issue is DirecTV, which is billing me for supposedly "free" channels. I have to deal with that one tomorrow. I knew this bill was going to be huge, as it's for two months (due to the move), but it's still absurd. Especially after all the time I've spent on the phone right after the move just to get things straightened out to begin with.

Wow, I can't remember the last time we didn't get off page four. It's rather nauseating.
-
Clearly we have set a new record today - our lowest posting numbers on this board EVER. Congratulations!
-
Well I don't know about anyone else, but work has been VERY hectic. Today was the cut-off to pay our monthly bills and we're still trying to learn how to use the darn computer system. :P There were quite a few invoices that didn't get paid this time.
-
All I know is - new all-time low.
-
And I am pondering, oh, yes, I am pondering.

Also, the mother-in-law of my co-worker Madeline died yesterday, so Madeline was gone today and won't be back until a week from Monday. :-\

Hi DR's. Just a quick note to let you know that my Grandmother passed away this evening. She will have been 94 in July. She had had a stroke in February and has been in a care facility since then. Recently, she had been refusing to eat and her oxygen intake had lessened. She was comfortable and not in any pain. She will be missed.

I'm so sorry to hear about this, Matthew. My condolences.

The folks at Best Friends Animal Society must be geography-challenged - they wanted to know if I was interested in doing a home check in Denver!

Condolences to Matthew - but what a long life!

And the invoices arrived twenty minutes ago, left on the doorstep by a young woman clearly either afraid or too obstinate to own up to her mistakes. And I'm jiggy with that.

Good news, BK. It's about time.

See - low posting days bring surprise compensations.

I would just have to make sure that I didn't send one to my aunt...the nun.

But my concern was more about the "Stealing the Baby Jesus" part. She was visiting when I was in that production of "Taming of the Shrew" three years ago and actually saw it...and liked it!
