Well, you've read the notes, the notes were both diggity and ziggity, and now it is time for you to post until the hot diggity cows come home.

Hello from Birmingham (England)!

This is the first chance I've had to get on the internet.  I left yesterday morning from Dublin, checked into my hotel, which has two computers for use, but they never seemed to work. The front desk (reception, as they say here) clerk said it's "hit or miss."  I guess she was right.

Back to Dublin:

Funny you should mention Powerscourt, DR Edisaurus, because I had actually taken a tour there the day you mentioned it.  It was very impressive and I took lots of pictures--I hope I'll be able to post a few of them.

And Ben--yes, the tour did take us under the grounds of the Dublin Castle, where the river flows--fascinating!

Enjoying reading the PP thread....and look forward to receiving my copy.

TOD:

DVD - Unmentionable but it features a former star of TV's Big Brother
CD - about 100 (it seems) versions of the stage manager's daughter reciting Little Tommy Tucker for use in the show....I will just pick one!

On Wednesday night I went to the famous Abbey Theatre and saw a play called "Bookworms."  It was very funny and the acting was top-notch.

I got to Birmingham yesterday afternoon, checked in to my hotel and walked around a little.

Pet peeve about hotels in the UK and Ireland: why don't they have top sheets on the beds?  They have what looks like a blanket inside a sheet.  What if you're warm and only want a sheet?  Strange custom, in my opinion.

JRand59--Have a great show!  Blithe Spirit is one of my favourites (I've taken on British spellings now).  I saw it in London with Penelope Keith and last year with Angela Lansbury.   I loved Angela, but the one who stole the show in my opinion was Jane Atkinson ( I think that's her name!), who played the 2nd wife.

Friday morning greetings!  Today I have a haircut appointment at the same time my mother has a physical therapy appointment to learn proper use of her new walker.  She's being transported there by her retirement community and I'll meet her after I have my hair done.  We'll then do errands and chill at her apartment until it's time to meet Richard and Rob at Montgomery Inn for dinner.  They'll be coming from the Apple Store, where Richard's computer will receive the final 1/3 of its repair and be like new again.  He's very pleased.

Greetings.  Yesterday was a great day.  We made our way to Cozumel and rented a jeep and toured the island.  Very beautiful.  We did some shopping in Playa de Carmen and came back to our hotel and had a lovely steak dinner.

DR Elmore, I hope you are feeling a bit better today.

Had a great time reading the Promises thread on Broadway World.  Sometimes, ignorance is funny.  I can't wait to hear the CD.

Today, the spa. (where I'm sure I won't find the German's.  Unless of course, it's the DP)

Good morning, all!  Around 4:30 this morning, I took my 8 hr dosage of the amoxicillin along with another hyrdrocodone. Right now, I'm feeling no pain, but I'm happier to report that there's been no sgn of bleeding durng the night. As for sleep, I slept fitfully, but good, given my concerns surgical and psychological.

I plan to do nothing today but lie around, watch tv, read, and nap. Tomorrow I'll start picking up my schedule, but today's going to be quiet. Since I announced what's on my current play list yesterday, I'll repeat it and correct a spelling error.

The fireworks and show were really good last night.

Re: the sound. I am okay for the sound of the fireworks no matter how close i am. But my eardrums can't take it when the music is overly loud, which it was. It was perfect with the earplugs.

The event started at 5pm.  We ended up going at 6pm so my niece could jump on the bouncies. She liked that. They also had arts and crafts. So she made a Canada Day necklace and bookmark.

Then my brother-in-law picked them up. And they went to put the baby to bed.

I ended up staying. ANd there was a really interesting musical theatre group. Then there was a barbershop group. Then a band. And then the song and dance. My sister and niece got back just when the song and dance show was going to start.

We had good seats. The place was packed. But luckily we had put our chairs in front of small sound tent. So people couldn't really pile up behind us or beside us. I don't like when people are all crushed in together. So this place was pretty good, considering.

At 9:30pm my sister's friend came with her 4 year old (my niece's friend). And then it was time for the fireworks. They were really good. It was my niece's first time seeing fireworks and she was just amazed.

The parking lot was packed. But luckily from my parking spot it only took me a minute to get out (it took me 20 minutes last week at the fireworks). But unfortunately my sister did not have as much luck and it took her a while to get home.

I was going to comment on the Perry Como song, one of my faves from the early 1960s, which is taken from from two 19th Century compositions; the original is "Espana," Chabrier's wonderful and brief tone poem salute to Spain, but the most likely source for the Perry Como song is Emile Waldteufel's Op. 236, "Espana Waltz,",based on Chabrier's themes. Waldteufel, whose most famous waltz is "The Skaters (Les Patineurs, Op. 183)," was the Parisian counterpart to Vienna's Johann Strauss.

July 8: Women in shorts, women in pants, and men in Bermudas - such things are not in the San Francisco tradition, Mayor George Christopher declared yesterday. "You'd be surprised," said the city's chief executive, "how many young ladies I've seen entering streetcars and buses wearing shorts. We can't reprimand them, we can't fine them, but it's just not the proper attire for San Francisco." What brought the subject up was a letter from J.C. Russell, an elderly like-minded San Franciscan who lives at 420 Serrano Drive. Russell, a longtime opponent of both shorts and slacks on women, reached the breaking point while taking his grandchildren on an outing to the zoo. "I noted there a woman of utterly horrendous architecture - clad in slacks," he said. He wrote the letter immediately upon his return home. Russell proposed a city tax on shorts and slacks. For ladies, said Russell, a proper charge would be $5 for weights up to 125 pounds; $10 at 125 pounds, and $50 from 150 pounds up. Men in Bermudas would pay more. A flat $100, Russell suggested in a letter to the Board of Supervisors. Mayor Christopher could not agree more. But the tax idea, he said, "might be unconstitutional." "I'm not a partisan of slack wearing or short pants wearing in downtown or in the neighborhoods," he said firmly. "That's the kind of attire that should be confined to the home."

Great news, DR Elmore. On your dental condition and on getting "Promises." Now, how do you feel after your trip to the moon on gossamer medical things?

I still ache.

It is expected. :(

Keith has tons of work to do outside which only leave me to brush the burrs out of Sherlock's fur and to check him for fox tails.  This is a task I don't manage well with my right arm/hand and one that is extremely difficult to do with my right.  I have so little muscle in my shoulder and arm making it difficult and painful to pull the brush or comb through his fur, especially with burrs tangled in there.

Well, I did leave work early and I did go see a movie--TOY STORY 3.  While it won't replace my favorite Pixar film (that would still be WALL-E), it's still a fun and delightful movie.  I highly recommend, though I would suggest seeing the plain, ordinary 2-D version--there's really nothing about the 3-D that I thought was worth a $12 ticket.

And, yes, tears were shed...

It's so simple, really. Chabrier wrote a 6-minute rhapsody "Espana." and his light music contemporary Parisian Emile Waldteufel too the themes and turned it into a ballroom waltz. I think the Waldteufel waltz was the basis for the como song. I'll send you the mp3 files.

Just heard that Skip E. Lowe cancelled AGAIN.  This is how amateur he is and where he tapes is: He tapes at Beverly Hills High - and last week and now next Tuesday, the Beverly Hills City Council are meeting in that space.  First of all - the council doesn't have their OWN space?  Second of all, I told them that when he rebooks (supposedly one week later) that it had to be certain, even if he booked the day before.  I'm not planning my days around that to only have it continually cancelled.

The only two other places to get Promises would be Screen Archives Entertainment and Footlight Records, both online.  The only other dealers that took them are two overseas dealers and they only got ten between them, and then my local dealer who took fifty and who only sells to his list of people.

Footlight initially ordered thirty - the guy who now runs it is so silly sometimes - I mean he sold three HUNDRED Illya and Anya, and two hundred Show Girl and House of Flowers, all flops, yet he orders this kind of incredible special edition at thirty.  I said "Fine, but you'll be sorry."  A week later he upped it to fifty.  But in his listing he didn't even say it was a limited edition of 1000 - I asked him to add that, but I have no idea if he did.  If he were to come back to me today and say he needed more, he would be out of luck because no more copies are going to dealers - I make much more money selling on the site, and I'm about to be down to less than 100 copies, and, of those, I will hold thirty back for emergencies (after which, I can sell what's left).

Hmmm, perhaps I should buy twenty-five copies to sell on eBay?

I think once they're gone and the word continues to spread - well, yes, eBay copies will go at a premium, especially as no dealers will have any more copies.  Screen Archives only took 175 and I'd bet that those will all be gone soon.

The TNT version of David Copperfield filmed there (the one with Hugh Dancy) and it looked so beautiful I made a point of going there while in Dublin. It was kind of hard to figure out how to get there but once we did we had a marvelous time. Glad you made it there, Kevin!

Had a nice day with my mom.  I picked her up from the orthopedist's office, dropped off a prescription for me at my pharmacy, and took her shopping at Meijer.  We had an hour or so to catch our breath at her apartment before we left to meed Richard and Rob at the Montgomery Inn.  Richard had to leave his computer at the Apple store, but got a call while we were finishing dinner that it was ready.  Rob and I took Mom home and Richard went back to pick up his computer, saving him a 3rd trip to Cincinnati tomorrow.

Someone on some board had posted about our Promises release a couple of weeks ago.  He invited comments.  One comment was from Jroug, who called himself the "architect" of all the Ryko releases, and said that my saying they'd remixed their version of the album an outlandish accusation, and that their CD was from the two-track album masters.  I responded this evening - I explained that as the "architect" of the Ryko releases he should have known that a simple listening of the Ryko (and in turn Varese) release would tell you it was not the original album mix.  But, more importantly, I informed this guy that when I opened the first of the many boxes of Promises tapes that were sitting in my living room, the first ones I found were a forty-eight track digital Mitsubishi tape - Ryko had transferred to that digital tape the eight track edited session masters, and on two separate tracks, a cassette of the OCR to use as a guide.  Then, on two other tracks was the bounce-over of their new mix.  That new mix was then transferred to another Mitsubishi digital tape and that is what their CD was made from.  Tapes don't lie, I'm afraid.  I gave this guy the name of the person in charge of the remix, Ryko and MGM's Bradley Flanagan - clearly written on the track sheets.  Oops.

Tonight, I worked concessions for a free organ concert at the Washington Center for the Performing Arts.  Even though it was free, you'd think that they would have it listed on their on-line calendar, but they didn't.
