Title: I'VE NEVER BEEN IN LOVE BEFORE
Post by: bk on July 10, 2010, 12:04:29 AM
Well, you've read the notes, the notes are stuck in your head, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're currently singing Cow Cow Boogie, which is, coincidentally, stuck in their collective heads.

Topic of the Day:  about two and a half years ago (I think), the song that I got stuck in my head was "I Was Here" from The Glorious Ones by Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty.  I found a YouTube clip (since removed) of Patti LuPone singing it in concert.  I'd never heard of the song before, but I just fell in love with it.  Some of the versions on YouTube that I find now are very different than the way Patti sang it (not that there's anything wrong with that ;)).  Several people sing it like a lovely ballad, very contemplative or like they have to "act" every moment the song (overact, really) but Patti sang it like an anthem, which to me really seems the way it should be performed.

I had that song stuck in my head for almost two weeks.

Last night John asked

"Has anybody read any preview reviews of Bernadette Peters and Elaine Stritch in "Night Music"?"

Performances begin this Tuesday, July 13th.

I don't have a ticket yet but I'm hoping it will appear on TKTS so I can see it at a discount. They do have $52 rear balcony tickets and that's probably how I will see the show.

I now have two songs in my head....'Let's Fall In Love' as sung by John Stevens and "Pick Yourself Up" by Mr Guy Haines, both of which are heard in "Blithe Spirit" - the first as the play opens....and the second in the intermission music.

....take a deep breath.....dust yourself off....pick yourself up....
and start....all.....over......agaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaai nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn!

work continues to be crazy - I did take a much nneeded vacatio  day on Wednesday and took the Vixter to the waterpark - it was agreat day = we got there before it opened and stayed right until closing time - despite the 99 degree temperatures the park was not overly crowded.  There were several  "travel camps' but all the kids were well behaved

the closest hing we had to an "incident" was while waiting in line behind 4 teens, 2 boys and 2 girls all about 15 -17 ; they were standing right behind a family with several under 10's . The teens were talking loudly - well nothing wrong with that we were at a waterpark havung fun,  but they were also using  F*** as punctuation and the mom withe littel ones was clearly uncomfortable and kept looking at the teens  but didn't say anything.

Much to the Vixter's discomfort I have no such reservations  - I tapped one of the boys on the shoulder indicated the children in front of him and said  "Ccome on guys there are little kids here "

The 2 guys and one of the girls immediately said  "Oh - sorry"  but one of the girls said  "I thought we were in America with freedom of speech"    so I replied "You are, and with that freedom comes the responsibility to use some consideration for others" Her girlfriend punched her in the shoulder and they all modified their language

and a good time was had by all

TOD:

I've had a couple of songs stuck in my head recently, and I'm driving my wife crazy because I go around humming them all day.

The first one was Jimmy Durante's "One of Those Songs," which was rather appropriate...

The other was "Plastic Jesus".

Such a song for a nice Jewish boy to be humming.

Thanks for the comments, guys! The ending music was written by my friend Michael Roth. bk met him at our SACCO AND VANZETTI screening. (He collaborates with Alice Ripley.) He's Randy Newman's music director, and since I used so much of Randy's music as temp track, he seemed like a logical choice to score the film. We got a lot of great music with a tiny budget and very small ensemble.

I wonder if they would submit it for an Oscar? It doesn't seem like something that would get nominated but then again, I never imagined the Mercer doc would get an Emmy nomination! (I wish I could take more joy in that...)

DR Jane, I know nothing about B&N's pricing on their Nook.
I know that I can get Borders' Kobo, while we have them, for a discounted price.
IF I got one, I'd be getting it primarily for Mum, who could read books on it as if they were large print editions.
Plus our store would get major credit if our employees purchased a Kobo - there's some sort of nonsensical corporate contest involved. . .

Of course you don't know the pricing.  I'll have to look up and see what yours is and if there is a difference between them.  We don't have a Border's here.

Has anyone looked up the value of the first English editions of the Millennium trilogy (the first edition of these books in English was in the UK).  There is currently a set of the three books on the ABE - signed by the translator - $13,966.  Naturally, that dealer will be sitting on those books for the rest of his life.  The next set, also signed, is over $4K.  The cheapest fine/fine copy of the first book is over $1200.

It has turned into a wonderful day.  I did realize that I just have 2 weeks before the 25 people will be camping in my yard and if bad weather in the basement.  SO - I'm off to the basement to finish cleaning and organizing.  I should be able to wrap it up today.  I think I'll use my new steam vac and do 1/2 the big room now and then 1/2 later today or tomorrow (after the first 1/2 dries).  This is going to be so nice to have a clean and usable basement again

There have been countless others. I hate it when it's something like The Lion Sleeps Tonight, but that's happened more than once lol

We took DR Elmore on a little adventure today to the Harry London Quality Chocolates (http://www.harrylondon.com/storelocator.aspx) factory store, where we all sampled some chocolates and shopped a bit.  On the way back to downtown Canton, we found another confectioner that had my "holy grail," dark chocolate raisin clusters.  Back downtown we visited a used paperback bookstore and picked out a place to have dinner.  It's right next to the theater where we'll see THE WIZARD OF OZ and within walking distance of our hotel.  Everyone is relaxing a bit before we start our trek up there in about an hour.

My neighbor's gal pal is out there parading around topless again - she just doesn't seem to care if there might be others who can see her do so - each time I walk by my bedroom window I'm greeted by perky breasts.  I went outside to sit near the pool and read and was humming loudly so she'd know there was someone around - but it just doesn't phase her.

Have finished steamvacing 1/2 of the big room in the basement.  Man does that make a difference.  I had forgotten how much dust there was down the basement when I demoed then put sheetrock in the other rrom.   It's been vacuumed, but that doesn't get it nearly as clean as the steam vac.  Anyway, it's looking great.  Now as soon as this 1/2 is dry I can move the furniture and do the other side.  By the end of the day tomorrow, the basement will be ready in case the bicycle riders have to camp out inside.  If it's too hot or raining I'm guessing there will be some in the group who would like to sleep indoors.

Callie has been hilarious about me cleaning the basement.  She was upset when I moved furniture, watched very closely as I steamvaced, then when I stopped she inspected, purred and meowed for me to follow her upstairs.

Oh, and tell him that Al Rosen is going to attend the screening in San Francisco and answer questions (and I'm sure autograph) after the film.

I did and Craig said  "I'm sorry to say that I won't be able to make it to the SF screening either. I'm sure he'll autograph too. He responded to my request very quickly and included an extra card. He seems like a nice guy."

Craig had written him a letter requesting he sign an enclosed baseball card.

I used to go a lot.  When my grandfather was alive he had a few rich friends. And they had season tickets and he would get them for me and my sister.

My dad also used to deal with a lot of companies that would give him either baseball (Expos) or hockey (Canadiens) tickets.

So i was in heaven!

So what do you do when you get a text from some one out of the blue that just says "Fu" and you haven't a clue what you have done to make the person mad?   I sent a text back that was three ? then another asking what I did to deserve that. No answer.  This is strange.   Not as strange as someone cutting the hostas right next to my house.  This is just downright weird

Last week Keith took his car for an oil change.  Yesterday he took the car back to find out why it leaked a ton of oil in the garage.  At least it didn't spill on our new driveway.

Does anyone know the best way to clean up the oil?

After I dropped Keith off this morning to pick up his car (yesterday they drove him home) I took Sherlock to the lake.  I haven't been there in a couple of years.  Sherlock LOVED going someplace new.  I couldn't find the trail I like.  I think it was under water.  With all the rain we had this spring the water is higher than usual.  I hope that also means the water is safe to drink.  Sherlock drank a lot of it while he was wading.  He didn't go in far at all.

There is a chance of one other thing, I'm almost embarrassed to admit.  I was writing a text this morning that I was going to send to him and decided not to.  It started FYI...and I made some spelling errors then decided not to bother him with it.  I hit a bunch of back spaces and thought I deleted it. FY and FU are only a fat finger away from each other.

I feel so stupid!!  I'm sure that's what happened.  I sent an email explaining and apologizing. I hope he thinks it's funny and not that I'm a total lunatic

No, he's in my contact list so his name was on it. I read it and deleted it.  Then I decided to ask what was up and wrote a new text.  He texted back saying he didn't know what I was talking about so I called him.  I feel so stupid
