Today, I'm going to help my friend Margo move some furniture from her dad's house in Everett to her home here in Olympia.  Evidently, he and his wife are moving to a much smaller house and they've saved some stuff for Margo.  We also have to get a chair for her sister.

Hopefully, it'll only take a few hours.  Today is also my sister's boyfriend's birthday, which I totally forgot about. :o We're meeting for dinner later in the evening.  I thought it was next weekend, otherwise I wouldn't have agreed to help Margo move furniture, but she said that we should be back in town in time for dinner.

Was the singer you saw Daisy Eagan?(Still Daisy After All These Years)

She recorded 44 Sunsets from The Little Prince on Broadway Bound (And her last name as spelt incorrectly on the back cover and in the booklet)

PS Susan Egan spells her name without the extra "a"

Anyone who has known JoeCaps for any length of time has connected all "those" dots.

Sadly, he doesn't quite grasp dots in theory, so he often presents a circle and tries to convince you it's a dot.

Sigh.

Sunday morning greetings!  We left DR Elmore at the cast party slightly before midnight - wonder what time he got in?  We're about to find out when we meet him for breakfast in about half an hour, then take him to the airport.  This afternoon, Richard and I are going to visit the First Ladies National Historic Site (http://www.nps.gov/fila/index.htm).  He's beside himself with excitement.

I am watching the LUCY marathon on Hallmark.....they are in Ethel's hometown where she has said that SHE is traveling to Hollywood to star in a movie.....and everyone is mad at her....

"Call your studio, maybe they'll send a special train out here for a big star like you."

"I'm sorry, Mr Ricardo - you're still in the picture!"

BK, I expect why others remember you while you don't remember them is simply that you're more memorable.  And how can you be expected to remember everything in a life so crowded with incidence?  But it does beggar the question, although you think you remember everything, what else are you forgetting?  Just hope one day some tihrty year old young man doesn't come to the door who is the spitting image of you and says, "Hello,Dad!"

I've always thought I've had a pretty extensive memory, but I'm amazed at things I've forgotten.  I kept a diary my first two years of college.  I can go back and read things in it that are an utter blank.  I know they happened, because I've written extensively about it, but nothing triggers the faintest glimmer of recollection.

We dropped DR Elmore off at the airport in plenty of time for his flight and on the way back paid our respects at the impressive tomb of Pres. William McKinley and this family.  In about half an hour, we'll mosey across the street and try to get into the first tour of the day at the First Ladies' site.  Richard can hardly contain his enthusiasm.

Tomorrow night is Fun Night at PEO, which is how I'll be spending my birthday.  It really means a pot luck dinner in the backyard by the pool of one of our members.   I'm supposed to bring a salad or a dessert.  Any suggestions for something that may be good if the food ends up being served outside in the heat?

It's supposed to rain tomorrow, I'm hoping it doesn't.  I'm also thinking I should take the glass and screens off of the combination windows from the inside rather than having the painters do it from the outside by taking off the entire trim.  I think there's less chance of breakage.  I'll talk to them in the morning.  I really hope it doesn't rain so they can get started.  It will be so nice to have all these jobs done.

That's really why I want to be here.

JohnG, yes Betty Kean sings and dances in MURDER IN THE BLUE ROOM. She plays part of a threesome known as THE 3 JAZZYBELLES. They are the comedy relief of the picture (June Preisser and Grace McDonald are the other two).

And I love that you know who Betty Kean is! I think she is hilarious!

Of course, one of the biggest laughs in The Odd Couple is:

Oscar (to Felix) "You leave me little notes on my pillow.  I told you a hundred times, I can't stand little notes on my pillow. 'We're all out of Corn Flakes. F.U.'  It took me three hours to figure out that F.U. was Felix Ungar."

A laugh that literally stopped the show at the Huntington Hartford.

The flight back was easy and pleasant; i sat with my new friend Jonathan McDevitt, a very talented young man who played the Scarecrow and walked away with the show. He and the Tin Man were a hoot and the audience loved them.

To answer DR Ginny's question, I got back to the hotel from last night's cast party around 2 am and I was awakened at 8 am. I'm ready for a nap, I do believe.

I haven't read her.  If you decide to read her books will you begin with the first one in the series?  Let me know what you think if you read it.  Most the mystery books I read are by male authors because they have been suggested by my brother.  He reads very few women author's.  I did get him to read Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum books because I knew he would get a kick out of them.  I suspect after awhile he stopped reading them.

our new Pastor is very nice but he is having some trouble folowing our order odf service - today the Vixter was scheduled to read the "Adult" lesson (in the summer we have 2 lessons read  a children's lesson and an Adult lesson) and as the introductory hymn was finishing up and she was getting ready to walk up to the pulpit  he stood up -moseyed over to the front of the alter and started his semon

the Vixter & looked at each other - she just shrugged and sat back down

Poor Pastor  nearly every person who shook his hand as they exited teh church mentioned his error to him - we bypassed the line and went right to coffeehour - but Pastor came and sought her out to apologize to her -

while he was doing so someone else stopped by to mention his error to him = the Vixter called out - "Cut the guy some slack - he's new!"

Joining out of nowhere. Haven't been on for a few days. Today was Benjamin Kritzer Day. I've just begun reading BK's books, starting at the beginning. I finished "Benjamin Kritzer: A Novel." As soon as I finished it I started "Kritzerland." Lot's of laughs and a touch of sentimentality. Since I am 5 years older than Bruce, I very much  ;)relate to these two books. Now I'm watching the news...like so much fish.  :)

I took a little nap and then I unpacked. I just had some Chinese food for dinner, and I expect I'll be in bed around nine tonight.

DRCillaliz, this was the first hearing in probably 60-70 years of the 1903 version of THE WIZARD OF OZ. Characters include Imogen, Dorothy's cow; Pastoria, rightful ruler of Oz; Tryxie Tryfle, his waitress girlfriend; and it bears as much relationship to the original book as I do.

Any suggestions for something that may be good if the food ends up being served outside in the heat?

Fruit pastries handle weather well. Peaches and Blueberries are in season.

Perhaps a crisp or a cobbler?

Or  POACHED PEARS (http://www.marthastewart.com/recipe/ideal-poached-pears)

So, I don't know if they will get started or not.  I'll be working at home while they are here.  Luckily my schedule allows me to do that.  I think I have a 3:30 PM appointment, but other than that I can be home doing trial prep for my august jury trial and do other things.  I'll go in at 8:00 and get some work and bring it home.   It will be a nice day.

Speak for yourself.

I didn't know your telescope worked at such a distance!

No, but you would be amazed what you can see on Google Earth.

Hi, Thom---good to see you again!

When my mother moved to the States, she came through New York on her way to Alabama. She saw one Broadway show, "Ankles Aweigh," with the Keans. I think her sister, Jane, is the one who introduced "Winter Was Warm" in "Magoo's Christmas Carol."

http://www.culinate.com/content/3295/Sesame+Noodles+with+Asparagus+Tips

Tips: It's better with small, tender asparagus

When you pull apart the noodles (I used Ramen) do it in a bag, like a grocery store bag. Otherwise they fly all over the place!

This recipe serves A LOT...more than they say it will, especially if you're taking it to a pot luck.

Worked too many hours today and am totally exhausted. Just wanted to catch up. Thanks, DR Ginny, for the pix of DR Elmore's visit. Wish my brain were in gear to offer more. But, as it is, all I can say is, night, all.

Watched a kind of nifty movie. THE NIGHT HOLDS TERROR (1955). Stars Jack Kelly, Vince Edwards, JOhn Cassavetes, and Hildy Parks.

I really like Jack Kelly. A writer friend of mine is working on Kelly's biography. I look very forward to reading it.

I remember seeing this when I was a kid.  Great thriller.

I wish it was on DVD.

I see that somebody on ebay is selling copies.

Due to a conflation of misunderstanding and extremely stupidly poor customer service, Gabe and I are ensconced at the local tribal reservation hotel for one evening, since they would not completely cancel our reservation, since we decided to room with DW Wife Betsy's parents at their cabin.  But I must say I'm glad we're here--lovely air conditioned room, a cool tv special about Poirot and the Orient Express, and, finally, decent internet access after days of the very spotty HughesNet satellite service, which is buggy even when it's operating.

And so, since my internet service has been so off and on, Happy Birthday, Cilla!  Hopefully this will now post!  :)

Hi Jane.

Ventura is great.   The weather is just the best.

My new routine is to not drive at all on the weekend.  Saturday morning all errands are done by 8AM, the car gets washed and covered, and it's only walking from then on till Monday morning for work.   Most of the rest of Ventura is on bicycles.

All is well.  Before a couple of Margo's friends showed up, intending to just loan us their truck, Margo thought that her van would have enough room and called them to say not to come.  But her friends did show up (their cell phone was turned off) and said that they'd drive up to help, just in case.  Well, it was a VERY good thing that they did!  Margo's dad had a trundle bed (without the underneath trundle part) and another desk and another chair and a large frame-less print and and a TV(!) and some other stuff that wouldn't have all fit in Margo's van.  However, everything fit perfectly within the van and the truck...and the extra help was a very good thing, also. :)

After everything was loaded up and we left, Margo and I went to the local Baskin/Robbins there and she treated me to dessert (her friends headed back south and would unload the truck on their own).  I had a Banana Royale with one scoop of pecan praline, one scoop of nutty coconut, hot fudge, whipped cream, a cherry and a banana.  Delish!

The traffic going up to Everett wasn't too bad and coming back south was even better.  We got back to Margo's house by 5:40, and I left to meet my family for my sister's boyfriend's birthday.  We all actually met at the restaurant at the same time, so it timed out perfectly!  We went to a local restaurant called Budd Bay Café (http://www.buddbaycafe.com/).  I had one of their Sunset Dinners (http://www.buddbaycafe.com/dinnermenu.htm) (served all day on Sundays):  Fresh Chicken Parmesan w/Marinara Sauce, grilled with a Parmesan crust and served with basil fettuccine alfredo.  It was quite good.  The crème Brule for dessert (it's included in the price...another dessert!) was not bad, just not "great."

After Budd Bay Café, we all went to my sister's house for even MORE dessert (vegan strawberry cake and/or vegan white chocolate/macadamia nut cookies).  The cookies were great, but I didn't have any of the cake.  I was just too full!  I did take some of the cake home with me, so I'll have some tomorrow.  Now, I'm home and I think that I may go to bed soon.  It's been quite the long day.
