The trailer doesn't begin to do justice to the movie

And watching a movie in which Liam Neeson plays a widower is now even more touching.

This is my sixth jog day in a row - but I'm at that beginning stage where it's really hard to lose even a damn pound.  Next week I should start losing actual weight - I hate this part, the building up to it.  It happens every time, though, so nothing to be done about it.  I haven't overeaten at all this week and you would think I'd have lost at least a pound or two but it sure doesn't feel like I have.  In fact, it feels like I've gained - I haven't - I can always tell by how my pants fit - but it's annoying.

No posts in 40+ minutes? During that period I vacuumed, finished arranging my theatre scores and put away some books. I'm afraid to tackle the classical scores alone. I need to sort through a bookcase and send more books to Miami U so I can fit the McGlinnventory scores onto the shelves. I may need to hire Zak Stains to come over and help me so I don't drop the tv or something. I would not be happy if that occurred. Between estimated taxes, health insurance and now the NYU Dental Clinic bills, I can't afford a new tv.

I just learned that the brilliant conductor, arranger, and musicologist Sir Charles MacKerras died on July 15. I was a great fan of his andf I love his ballet score for PINEAPPLE POLL, based on the music of Sir Arthur Sullivan. He had a long life, 84 years, but it's a sad day for music.

I also just realized that tomorrow would be my mothers 87th birthday, may she rest in peace.

Afternoon, all.

It's very hot here in Chelsea.

Early in the morning (8:15) I went to get my haircut. I guess others had the same idea. There was already someone in the chair so I waited and played with his friendly doggie.

After that I went to the new Trader Joe's which has opened in the old Barnes and Noble bookstore on 21st and 6th Avenue. It was blissfully almost empty. TJ's has been a phenomenon in NYC. The original store in Manhattan on 14th Street and 3rd Avenue is usually mobbed. They have opened a store in Brooklyn and there are plans to open one on the Upper West Side (at 72nd Street). I hope this will curb the crowds at 14th Street but since the new store is closer we will go there for our shopping excursions.

We have been in the house all day. The AC is not on yet (we put it on in the bedroom, the only room with a unit, at night when we go to bed). Anthony has been transferring LPs to CDs and I have been on and off the Internet. It's too hot to exercise (the advantage of having a gym membership) so I have not been riding the bike lately.

We watched a great movie last night. We got the DVD from the library. It's a 1945 (British) Wendy Hiller film called I Know Where I'm Going. It's about a willful woman during World War II who insists on going to an island in the Hebrides chain to marry a man she hasn't met. A gale prevents her from getting there and she comes to realize her life is going in a different way. The film is in black and white but the scenery is gorgeous and the cast (including a young Pet Clark) is WONDERFUL!

I did a three-mile jog, then went to the store and bought new running shoes and new walking shoes - first shoe purchase in a year and a half, so that's pretty good.

Lunch was fun, and then I picked up several packages and the envelope I've been expecting.  I did some banking, then opened the packages, one of which contained DVDs of The Girl Who Played With Fire and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest - apparently both have English subtitles although the menus are in Chinese and I'm hoping by using the subtitle button on my remote that that will do the trick.

That's my problem, DR Ben.  I've only been to Sanibel, 30 years ago, and that was to visit my professional mentor and her husband in the condo they rented for the winter.  All I had to do was get myself to Ft. Myers on a plane and they entertained me for a week.

It's actually  not really like a regular hoola hoop at all. With a regular hoop you can go round for maybe a minute. But with hoopnotica the hoop is specially weighted. So you can do it for an hour without stopping.

An hour, pretty good.  I asure you I have done a hoola hoop for far longer than a minute at a time.  The new one is probably more comfortable to use.

I've had a sore throat and some sinus issues since Wednesday.  Today was the first time I've been able to take a nap.  Man did that feel good. I'm feeling much better.  The house is still a mess, but that's ok, I can't really clean it up until I can put the combination windows back in...that can't happen until they finish the windows....so...good time to relax.

Today has been a day of me doing nothing...but that is about to change.  I'm going to take a shower (TMI, I know), get dressed, then go downtown for a bit of Olympia's Capital Lakefair (http://www.theolympian.com/2010/07/15/1304932/a-summer-celebration-by-the-lake.html) celebration, then I'm going to see TAO's production of "Othello."  HERE (http://www.theolympian.com/2010/07/02/1292158/othello-gets-edgy-attitude.html) is a write-up of the show before it opened and HERE (http://www.theolympian.com/2010/07/09/1299097/othello-moves-to-new-york.html) is an actual review.  I've never seen any production of it (not even a movie), but it should be good...although Shakespeare tends to go over my head, so we'll see.

I remember the song "Desdemona (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oghfxiZZUVU)" from the TV show FAME, so maybe that'll help me be able to follow the story. ;)

All three Millennium DVDs are out in Sweden - but no English subtitles.  Someone in China bootlegged the videos and did subtitles in English - I got them on eBay.  I must say, some people said that The Girl Who Played With Fire was even more violent than the first film.  Now, I didn't happen to find the first film overtly violent at all, as you know.  This one is LESS violent (only one scene could be deemed violent, involving an ax, but it's really nothing at all compared to most movies).  I'll have more to say about the film in the notes, but I enjoyed it very much.

Chris and I went to see THE SORCEROR'S APPRENTICE, which I sorta liked although I think I'm really over Jerry Bruckheimer's endless chases , fights, and over-the-top CGI effects. There were wonderful moments, but I was not crazy about the actor playing the apprentice.

After the movie we went to dinner and I told him all about my Ohio jaunt and learned what's new with him.

It depends on what you are looking for

hmmmm  the only one I was not a  big fan of was Animal Kingdam - and the last time we were there was 12 years ago so it may be much better now -   Magic Kingdom is pretty much a Disneyland clone  - MGM studios is movie based  you can go sit inthe Muppet theatre and see a Muppett show in "4 D"  - three D movie plus animatronics

Epcot is kind of  2 parks in one - there are rides in the front and the world showcase in the back  - the "countries" in the showcase are all worked by peopel really from that country  - they are quite interesting to speak with
