Title: WEB TV

Well, you've read the notes, the notes waxed nostalgic for Web TV, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're currently on Web TV as they are so ten years ago.

I am so sorry George about the passing of your co worker

Thanks Vixmom and Jane and MBarnum.  It was a very nice service.  Several people from work were there...I was actually surprised, however, that more people from work weren't there. :-\ Marian's two daughters from Idaho and their husbands were there.  Several people spoke, and then there was a reception after the memorial, but I drove a co-worker who needed to get back to work, so we didn't go to the reception.

After that, I went back to work for a bit and then went to Seattle for the Storm vs. Chicago Sky women's basketball game...the Storm won 80-60!  They are at 21 wins and 2 losses for the season!  It was announced at the game that that is the third best season in WNBA history!

Just had to share. :D

I got up to Seattle about an hour before the game started.  I didn't want to go into the Key Arena and just sit or walk around in a circle for an hour, so I walked instead to a local used record/CD store just a couple of blocks away.  I looked around for a bit and finally found the section with new and used musicals on CD.  There wasn't too much that I wanted, but I ended up getting the 1999 reissue of Gypsy for $5 and the 1996 new Broadway cast recording of The King and I with Donna Murphy and Lou Diamond Phillips (album produced by our very own BK!) for only $3!  And both were in very good condition!  I did put the Gypsy recording into a new jewel case, but The King and I doesn't need a new one. :)

That was going to be my question too, but I was also going to ask that I presume there was a keyboard of some sort. Was it like a keyboard that we know today?

DR der Brucer - LOL, that's a great addition to my collection of images of women with books!  Actually, in my early worklife, mini skirts were still very much in fashion and I had the figure to wear them.  One of my student assistants told me that she'd heard someone refer to me as "The Librarian with the Legs."  Ah, those days are gone...

Good morning, all! After DR Ben left, I tidied up and headed off to bed, where I lay awake in the dark for a very long time unable to sleep. I finally passed out but I slept fitfully with dreams I can no longer rememember. I would have slept longer, but I had to be up early to call Ron Raines before he boards his flight for the week cruise he's on. I wanted to check on the HANSEL & GRETEL production, hear how Charlotte is doing in the Berkshires, and wish him a safe trip.

Speaking of Ron, DR TCB, I did indeed loathe TITANIC on Broadway: it had a dreadful set, a horrid book, and a good cast including my friends Judy Blazer, Don Stephenson, and David Garrison. I remember some of the score as being quite beautiful - Maury Yeston is a good writer - and I remember phoning Jonathan Tunick to tell him how fantastic the orchestrations were the day after I saw the show (the day after its opening when it received tepid reviews) but I cannot separate the score and my wish to hear it again from a production I detested. I stll believe the show succeeded because of the success at the same time of the James Cameron film and because its Tony Award performance made it look much better than it actually was.

DR JRand59, I gather you have a problem with the Indianapolis Symphony? What's it all about, Alfy?

TOD: I'm pursuing my collectibles project, but if I had all the money I needed, I'd be pulling a John McGlinn and buying complete editions of the composers I liked - there's this New Johnann Strauss Edition I've been eyeign, but each volume in American currency is between $700-900 - and I'd be pursuing used music and book stores around the globe for out of print books and vocal scores. I have been buying first editions of books I like, and I'm waiting to pick up the first three early novels by Carl Hiaasen.

Have I told all you HHWers lately how you're all such a sweet and thoughtful bunch of folks? If not, I'm making it official. I have been trying to log on this past week, but my Norton anti-virus kept showing a notice that said HHW was an unsafe site -- something about 4 security threats -- "HTTP Malicious Toolkit Variant Activity" so I had been trying to figure out what to do. Well, after seeing all the HHW posts on Cason's facebook about my mom, I thought screw HHW's "variant activity" (is that the same thing as unseemly activity?) I'm logging on to say that you folks are the best and your thoughts are so greatly appreciated.

Late morning all.

I had a wonderful evening with Dear Larry last night. I didn't get home until about 11:45 and I went to bed

I had never seen Beggar's Opera. I've seen Threepenny and I was looking forward to BO. I really enjoyed both the full version we watched and portions of the earlier 1964 BBC Television version.

We also had great food from Artie's, cake and wonderful conversation. We solved the problems of the world and spoke of many things, including many DRs.

If you still need eggs and bananas then really you could just make the banana bread without the mix. Not that many more ingredients.

We have returned from my Mom's retirement community, where we enjoyed the fish fry and other festivities.  The meal was served outside under a big tent and, fortunately, the rain held off until Mom and I were in the main building looking at crafts and other stuff that Richard didn't care to see.  He waited in the car and picked me up at a covered walkway after I walked Mom to her apartment.

Margaret Cason, 83,  passed away July 30 after years of dealing with the ravages of the Alzheimer's -- that damnable disease -- slowly taking her away. So although it is always hard to lose a loved one, especially a parent, we're so glad that she is finally at peace -- so we're at peace.

My condolences to you and your family, Miss Karen.

Sincere condolences.

Yes I did watch the VIEW, although not just for the President (although i did want to see him).  I actually like the show and record it every day.

I hope you know I wasn't teasing you, it just seemed a bit ironic that the only person who admitted watching the US pres. on the View is from Canada.

Man! Did I ever get bargains today, or what!  I'm really bummed that I needed to get new clothes due to weight gain, but I needed work clothes and something nice to wear for a reception in Toronto, so I bit the bullet, decided to just ignore the size and find clothes that fit and went shopping.  I have never seen the deals that were there today...I was floored. So I have a new wardrobe for what I thought I'd have to spend for 1 1/2 suits!  I'll put the skinny clothes in the closet in the guest room and hope I can fit in them soon, but until then, I'll have clothes that fit!

I needed to buy a new funnel for refilling my cleaning bottle from the large economy refill bottle.  Since my hands shake, it is not really a good idea to try to refill it freestyle.

When I went to the supermarket, I first looked in the cooking ware aisle, then the automotive aisle, and finally the cleaning products aisle, thinking that they might have it hanging there as an impulse buy.  No luck.  When I going through the checkstand the clerk asked me if I found everything.

I answered, "Actually no, I was looking to buy a funnel."

He stared at me for the longest time before he asked, "You mean, like a coffee funnel?"

I looked at him for the longest time before I answered, "Ahh, no."

We didn't continue the conversation.

No, I didn't mind how you said it.  Actually it was interesting to watch the President and see how the co-hosts reacted to him. Elisabeth, who I would have thought would not have liked him was in awe of him.

He was very charming. And he seemed to have a magneticism that drew them all in. The only thing I will say is that most of his answers were quite drawn out vs being concise. But I guess if you're the President it's better to elaborate vs seeming stupid.

I had web-tv for several years.  I actually kept it after I got a computer because of the large volume of email that I wanted to forward.

And I don't know if there was more than one type, BK, but mine was definitely connected to the phone line.   I had call waiting so if a call came in while I was on web-tv, it would automatically disconnect (the web-tv).

And funny you should mention ebay, BK, because I remember that I would get a notice saying "the page is too big to show" or something like that while I was on ebay.  It was very frustrating.

I was going to ask how different it is from a strawberry milk shake. Does it taste similar?

I guess I don't know what malt powder is.

Quote
Malted milk is a powder made of barley, wheat flour, and malt powder that is combined with milk to form a beverage. Often, malted milk powder is added to milkshakes to add sweetness and flavor. Only non-diastatic malt powder is used as a flavoring agent in malted milk, whereby diastatic malts are used in baking to help breads rise by breaking down starch into sugar.

Historically, the term malted milk was trademarked in 1887 by pharmacist James Horlick and his brother, William, at a factory in Racine, Wisconsin. The two brothers began Horlick Food Company by producing a powder that could be added to milk to fortify it for ailing infants. For more than six years, the Horlick brothers worked to improve their product and in 1887, produced the first-ever whole milk in powdered form. While originally marketed for infants, the product quickly gained popularity, especially among explorers, for its convenience and indefinite shelf life. Horlick's malted milk was widely available in drugstores as both a powder and a tablet, and pharmacists began using the powder to make a cheap syrup to sweeten sodas.

With the invention of an electric blender by Fred Osius in the 1920s, malted milk became a pop culture fad. The sweet powder could be flavored and added to ice cream to form a thick, filling beverage with a high fat content. A combination of the powder and ice cream was marketed as a complete meal-in-a-glass, and typically fetched a high price.

Malted milk has since found its way into many products besides beverages. In 1939, the Overland Candy Company added it to their Giants candy product. After a merge with Leaf Brand, the product was re-released in 1947 under the name Whoppers™. It is also used in biscuits, bagels, hot beverages, and as an ice cream topping.

While usually high in fat and sugar content, malted milks are rich with vitamins and minerals. Carnation®, Ovaltine®, and the original Horlick's malted milks are a good way to boost caloric intake and milk consumption in children, especially picky eaters. Most modern malted milk products found on the shelves are heavily sugared and still remain a special treat.

David got a show at Goodspeed.  Jason is reason enough to come, but if it's not, the chance to see Pam Myers, the woman who originated Another Hundred People in Company you should not pass up.  Add to that Alet, Lesli Margherita and Damon, well, I think we're going to have a pretty wonderful evening.  I decided to keep the men to two - with the list of songs I have, it all works out fine.

The fish are rotting because the dam burst, sending a billion gallons of water downstream. The bottom of the lake was not flat, so there are some shallow puddles that some fish are trapped in. And, well, they died and now are rotting.

That was a fascinating story, wasn't it?

Wow, I just got a rather nasty PM from someone, suggesting that I was a terrible human being for bringing up the fact that at the time I posted I was surprised no one had listened to the radio interview.  This person suggested that no one listened because people were offering condolences of all sorts.  Well, aside from those, I've seen any number of postings on any number of subjects so that's a load of horse manure.  Also, they suggested that I might want to offer condolences to Miss Karen and Cason.  How offensive.  To FifiLePew: I don't really need to say this, but of course they got my condolences via Facebook, which is where I saw the information.  This sort of moral superiority is so nauseating it makes me want to a) vomit on the ground, and b) makes me want to vomit on the ground.

I've never heard of banana bread mix. Is it any good?

If you still need eggs and bananas then really you could just make the banana bread without the mix. Not that many more ingredients.

It's just like a cake mix.  THIS (http://www.concordfoods.com/banana-bread-mix-/) is what I got:

And now, I'm off to work.

Have a good day, all!

George, why are you working today?  This is Saturday.

I am not a morning person, so I don't get to work very early.  I usually get there between 10:45 and 11:15 or so.  If I think that I'm going to get there much later, I'll call, but my supervisor isn't one of those dictator-type supervisors....for which I am extremely grateful.  And my job isn't the kind that I need to be there during any specific hours, just as long as I get the work done (and am accurate with my time sheet).  Anyway, since my schedule is flexible, I don't always work eight hours every day, so I (usually) make up whatever time I need each week on Saturday. :)

I am so full from dinner - this was definitely a splurge day, although I did do a two-mile jog this morning and didn't eat until dinner.  We went to the Daily Grill, and I had that delicious double chicken breast thing again.  Alet and I split a chopped salad and we split the artichoke thing.  So at least those two were cut in half.  We also shared a dessert - an amazing brownie thing, but we each only ate about half of it - she took all the leftovers home to Andy, who ate them all up.
