The combined DVD/CD just arrived yesterday. As you know, I am a newbie and somewhat behind.

Good morning, all! I slept relatively well, so why am I so sleepy?
I just put the laundry into the washer and I'm on my first cup of coffee. In 40 minutes, it goes into the dryers and, since it will get e back here, after, 9 am, I think it's late enough in the morning to begin cleaning the apartment, mop the bathroom and kitchen, and vacuuming.
I'm now six weeks away from the first recording sessions for this Victor Herbert recording project, and getting a bit antsy about it all. My biggest concern is the scheduling of the two singers who are performing with the Met this fall and I'm hoping I don't need to reschedule everyone because of conflicts with the opera.
So, today, some writing and questions answered on two Victor Herbert shows, an email to the Herbert recording producer, a very nice man, whose naivete sometimes drives me bats, and another listen to this song I have to score for the Indianapolis Symphony gig qnd I will listen to it as I lay out the score pages and sketch in the piano part. Tonight, dinner with my friend Chris.

I'm heading to Toronto on Wednesday. I'm getting excited about that. It just occurred to me I haven't been on a trip without taking my parents with me in a year and a half. It's a meeting and I want to attend the sessions, but the idea I don't have to make sure everything is ok for my parents is really freeing.

I will be seeing a production of The Fantasticks tomorrow starring Anthony Morelli. I decided last week that since tomorrow is our 15 year anniversary that I would go down to Annapolis where he is performing and surprise him. He has no idea I'm coming down. I told him I couldn't make it because of work (we are in a busy time right now but I can take a day off (Monday) and it's our 15th so it's important and special.
I'm taking the train to DC tonight after work. I will stay with a friend and then tomorrow the four of us will drive down to Annapolis to see the show. They had planned on seeing the show anyway and when I called to ask if they had room in the care (getting to Annapolis is not easy if you don't have a car) they were very happy to have me join them. I will see the show and then when he comes out to see our DC friends I will be there for the "reveal" as they say in television.
I will stay Saturday and Sunday (my friends will drive back to DC) and drive back to NYC on Monday with Anthony.
I'm very excited about the trip and a day away from the office.

CD: the new Spartacus megaset
BD: getting through a glut of review titles, including a bunch of Dragon Dynasty releases, as well as a Colin Farrell film called "Triage" and a new NatGeo IMAX thing. We got about 3/4 of the way through Ghost Writer last night. Slow and deliberate, and very creepy. There are some very minor artifacting issues on the BD, which I'm assuming BK didn't care about. :)

DR Druxy, you can pick up a nifty little camcorder for under $200. I don't have any brand/model to recommend, but I would say to look for one that is:
Palm-sized
Records to a flash memory card (tape is passe! THere are new models that use a built-in hard drive but I think these are pricey...)
Can record in HD
Camcorders should also be able to take digital still pics, too.

I remember many many years ago we made a trip to Disneyland when the kids were very young. We saw several dads there with video recording equipment. Huge cameras and backpacks for the equipment. I think they used VHS tapes. I always wondered if the kids watched the videos of themselves on the carousel enough to make it worth hauling all that stuff around all day.

It will be good to get past my depression and rage of the past couple of weeks and laugh about the idiocy of existence.
Speaking of idiocy, the worst part of working at home is the fact that I get caught up in the totally pathetic writing of the soaps, and I am fascimated by the current BIG PLOT on THE BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL: graduating high school virgin has a masquerade graduation party and her mother, who whispers every line as taught in Film Acting 101, shows up in the same mask wearing a necklace of her daughter's. The daughter's boyfriend, who looks nothing like her badly facelifted father physically, picks up the mother at the party, waltzes her off to the terrace and plays hide the sausage with her. So, now the girl is upset that her slutty mother banged her boyfriend, the whispering mother claims she didn't know, the boyfriend claims he thought it was the daughter, and we've had three weeks of these fools feeling sorry for themselves and reliving this plot daily. Clearly there was no foreplay since you can't do much makeout in the stupid masks they we wearing, the mother seemed completely unaware the bumbling young man had none of her cosmetically challenged husband's sexual technique, and the young man clearly wasn't much concerned he was supposedly with a young virgin. The complete logistics of this moronic scenario fascinate me!

Listening to the soundtrack for "Arthur" which I found on iTunes. Didn't realize it was there. It's one of my fave's.
Tonight, our production of the Prince Street Players version of Pinocchio opens. Our 8-12 year-old's finally brought something to the table in rehearsal this morning. It's going to be a great show. I'm used to kids not "bringing it" until they have an audience, because they don't really know how to rehearse. Hopefully they will have learned something this summer.

I just had a lovely phone call from DR Ginny. She is still in ICU waiting for a transfer to a regular hospital room and she believes she will be going home tomorrow. I was very very happy to hear her voice.

2 ballparks (Mets and one in Florida) are going to show a clip of JEWS AND BASEBALL on their Jumbotrons this summer. It's a clip of Ron Howard describing Vin Scully's call of a Sandy Koufax perfect game. Vin Scully is retiring this year I believe so the Dodgers may also show it. Good publicity for the film!

DR Cillaliz, I have not been to toronto in a while. But places i've enjoyed: The CN Tower, The Skydome/Rogers Center, St Lawrence Market. I would of course see a musical. But that is just me. There is a lot of theatre in Toronto.

Yeah. I'm feeling better today, but it's the first day I've really felt fine. I took my last antibiotic tonight. It's hot out and the dew point is almost 80 degrees, really muggy. I'm afraid I'll get sick again if I go to an outside party tonight, so I stayed home and wrote the hostess a note ...miss otis regrets....

My guess you are making a good exchange of muscle for fat. Next step, if that is your goal, is to lose maintain the muscle & lose more fat.
Funny, I did need to get more fat after my surgery. The problem is I had too much fun gaining it and didn't stop. I'm motivated now. I want to find out if I can swim. I have my swim suites sitting out to try on, once I lose a few pounds.

Also, Second City is fun.
And they have a terrific symphony. You can get a cheap "rush" ticket at the last minute, @ $20 on the day of the concert. Get there early, they go on sale at 10AM. It's fun to get a seat behind the orchestra. I haven't seen their current conductor but used to go a lot when Andrew Davis was there.
The zoo is nice, too!
Food-wise, they have a GREAT big Chinatown, pretty much any place with dead stuff hanging in the windows is a good bet.
Our exec producer for the baseball film lives in Toronto so I'll check with him, although I suspect he goes to fancier restaurants than I do.
Another thing I like is that I've worked there at all hours and it always seems safe to be walking around at night. I could have a false sense of security, though.
The Distillery District is supposed to be pretty cool; I haven't been there since it was developed but hear good things about it.
Go shopping in Yorkville if you have too much money. And look for the little black squirrels in public parks. They keep their eyes peeled for people using the water fountains and then hop up and drink the rest of the water after you're done!

Since I don't have time to read both Into The Wild and Where Men Win Glory, the Jon Krakauer book about Pat Tillman, before I go, I watched the movie of Into the Wild tonight. Now I want to read the book. I think I'll like it better.
I read Under the Banner of Heaven a while back and am now reading Where Men Win Glory. It's already interesting and I just got started.

Well, spaghetti at the parents' house with the family and a friend of my mom's was quite fun. A bit of conversation went on before we all left. If I'd stayed at work until 8:15 pm (I have very flexible working hours), I would've worked all my hours for this week. Since I went to my parents' house, I'm going to go to work tomorrow (which is not really that unusual for me) for two and a half hours. But it's still going to be a long day tomorrow....

At 2:17 pm (yes, that specific time), I'm auditioning for the Olympia Audition League (http://www.olyaudition.org/), where three local theater groups have one group audition. You select on-line which shows you want to be considered for, then you just have one audition in front of ALL the directors of ALL the shows. Talk about nerve-wracking! But one's nerves must be wracked if one is to be considered for a spot in a show...or three. I've put down that I want to be considered for the three musicals. Since TAO is remounting Cannibal! The Musical!, and I was in it the last time, I figure I've at least got a better than average chance at that. ;)

And then tomorrow evening, I'm going to a going-away-party for a couple of friends of mine who are moving to NYC! They both have girlfriends (yes, they both really are straight) but I don't know if their girlfriends will be going to New York with them. I met the guys (I haven't met either of their girlfriends) doing the first production of Cannibal! The Musical!...now, they won't be around for the second version.
But good for them! ;D

Back from a very long session for all the usual reasons - but I kept everything light and fun and while we really should have been out by ten or ten-thirty we were out by midnight so it wasn't too too bad. As I told the people from the theater, had I not been there it could and would have been much, much worse :)
Fun music, Alan Menken was there and we had a good time (and I showed him an app that he absolutely went bonkers over and couldn't stop playing with - he's already e-mailed it to his daughter). Alan's agent and my pal, Richard Kraft came by and that was a good thing. Raul Esparza was very nice, and the singers from the cast were quick and good - the band is really great. Director Rob Ashford was there, although in his own world with his own people, and Glenn Slater, the co-librettist and lyricist was there - first time we'd met and what a nice guy he is. We spoke fondly of dear reader FJL and his ever-lovin' Skip.
