Well, you've read the notes, the notes were bidin' their time, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're also bidin' their time.

Glad to hear the good news about DR GINNY.

Being on a diet and all - I cannot discuss it.....

Loved reading about the recording session - although I know nothing about the show - and all of the SEE-LEBRITEEEEES!

And now I am off to work. Oh well.

I'm a sucker for cheese danish.

Good morning, all! After a bit of stomping around from the Oaf Above Me between 11 and 11:30, just after I'd turned off the lights, things were suddenly quiet and I slept well. I even slept late, for me, to 8:45. I have an easy day; I'll try to finish up the second chart for Indianapolis - about half to write now - and I think I have a few more questions to answer for the copyists.
Tonight I will watch the Edna Mae Oliver movie that DR MBarnum sent me, and I may watch another of the Netflix items. Not much else to report at this time.

Larry - Do I understand from your post the other day that CHICAGO is based on real-life murders?
If so - I'm not sure how i feel about factual real-life murder being handled in such a comical way. it never occurred to me before that these are the deaths of real-life breathing people that we as an audience having such madcap fun with.
-
BK - i hadn't remembered that you'd never met Glenn Slater before.
Glenn and his wife Wendy (and their children) are the most wonderful people,

DR FJL, Maureen Dallas Watkins' successful play CHICAGO, source of the musical, is based on the trials of several murderesses that she covered for the Chicago newspapers. The original souvenir programs for the original run of CHICAGO with Verdon and Rivera contained photocopies of news clippings from the original trials.
Also, there's only one execution in the show: the poor Czech (Polish?) woman who can't speak English or afford a good lawyer. It's the show's one concession to reality. Watkins is more concerned with the sardonic humor behind the carnival and manipulations of the press hungry murderesses to be found innocent.

TOD - well since the DP is a pastry chef...

Druxy and Larry - thanks for that perspective.

We had rain last night/this morning. Real rain. :)

Once again, thank you wonderful friends at HHW for the magnificent birthday wishes. I am gobsmacked, and I consider that a marvelous thing.

DR Jane, I think I will start swimming again this winter. For a while (maybe 5 or 10 years ago) that was my exercise of choice. I'd go 2 or 3 times a week for 1 hour.
I don't really like indoor swimming in the summer. But there is an indoor pool attached to the library. So since i won't be able to bike. I might try to swim once a week all winter. I think that is a goal i could maintain.

I do like pastries!

I have not had a mille feuilles (pastry) in forever. But I do remember loving them.

I'm up and have been dealing with a total idiot who e-mailed me at 4:57 am to report that he hadn't received word that his order for the London Promises had gone through, that he hadn't received the CD and was I going to write him or refund his cc. This e-mail was laden with attitude. I responded as I always do, informing him that it is clearly stated on the item page that the official ship date is the first week of September - and if there is a way to make it clearer to please let me know. I also informed him we don't send out "word" but paypal has a simple "You've made a payment" at the end of every transaction and clearly that payment shows up in his paypal account. I informed him the CDs came in four weeks early and had shipped out Thursday.
-
Then I see that this total jerk has opened a paypal dispute. That's right - before even waiting for a response which, as you can see, he got less than five hours after he sent his missive, he opens a paypal dispute, which means they have deducted money from my account. I wish I hadn't sent his CD because I would cancel this jerk's order so fast it would make his head spin. While he was quick to e-mail and open the dispute, funnily he has not been quick to respond to my e-mail or my paypal dispute response. I then called paypal and now there's nothing to be done until this ASS closes out the dispute - it's clear he won't do this until he receives his CD, which should be today or Monday. My guess, however, is this guy is such a jerk that he will "forget" to close out the dispute, which means that I will then have to wait until it automatically closes on - August 27, at which point the money will come back into my account.
Once the money is back in the account, I will then inform this guy to NEVER EVER place an order through Kritzerland again. So, here is a clear example of the customer is NOT always right and sometimes the customer is a total fool who can kiss my ASS.

End of rant, save for one little thing: GET ME OFF THIS DAMN PAGE.
-
It is 10:20 my time and I cannot recall the last time we were on page one at 10:20. We will not want to continue along these lines.
-
Well let's get off page one then
-
It won't take much
-
Welcome to Page 2

My nephew called this morning and told me they had always planned to stop on the way home and he has no idea what his mother is talking about. She never drives this way, so she thinks no one else should either. I did tell him she wrote me twice to say they aren't coming to visit and he thought that was terrible.
-
So they will arrive around 8:00 AM and will stay an hour or two. We could go out for breakfast, but I think with a three year old (a very well behaved 3 year old, but a 3 year old nonetheless) it will be easier and more fun for us to eat breakfast here. Sophie wants pancakes, but I think I'll make Whoville waffles. I have a Grinch waffle maker that makes swirly waffles. I think she'll have fun with that.
-
This morning I have gone into cleaning mode. It's going to be really hot, so I started the laundry early and the last load is in the dryer. I packed up the pants in my closet that are too small now. I'm not giving them away this time, just packing them up so when I get dressed in the morning and look in the closet, the clothes in it actually fit me.

The real stories behind CHICAGO
-
Saturday afternoon greetings from the 5th floor of Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton! I just knew there were all kinds of HHW vibes coming my way and they certainly did the trick. What actually happened is that I had a heart attack brought on by a blocked artery (not unusual), but the artery was (is) torn below the blockage. That turned the attempt to do the cath in a quick-recovery mode (which was how they diagnosed) into the longer-recovery method to treat, with some very scary consulting in between. Dr. Steven Jain (http://www.miamivalleyhospital.org/physician.aspx?phid=26002) is my new best friend and I'm very lucky to have been in Dayton when this happened. Not that there's anything wrong with the spiffy new hospital in Middletown, but I'm not sure they have the level of sophistication to have addressed the complication. I'd have hated to come here in a helicopter as a result of that consulting. One of Dr. Jain's retired colleagues just happened to be in the building and he was brought into the conversation and told Richard that he'd written a paper on this exact situation. Best of both worlds - young guy who knows the latest technology and an experienced mentor to back him up.
So, what they did was to insert a stent to open up the artery and let the blood flow that's restored repair the tear. But they couldn't do that through the wrist and prepared both leg entries, just in case, in order to perform the procedure. As DR der Brucer explained, I had to lie flat on my back until the ports were removed and then for 6 hours until they were sure the bleeding had stopped. It was then tricky getting up and the first attempt didn't go so well. But, by the time I left ICU last night, I walked to a wheelchair for transport. The nurses joked that not many people leave that unit vertical!
-
GINNY!!!!!!! SOOOO glad to see you!
-
Hello, DR Ginny! I was just thinking about calling your cell phone to see if you had been released.
-
Glad you're out of ICU and in your own room, any idea when you'll get to go home
-
I finally know something
Well you surely know more - like:
-you can't outwit a teenage girl
-indentured servitude is still alive and practised in the real estate buisness
-not all immigrants are ignorant, vicious criminals
-the sense of taste is generally under appreciated

Now, can someone get me off THIS damn page?

Not a peep from Mr. Customer. Funny that.

I do know that some people have gotten their London Promises CDs because I've seen some very laudatory postings about it.

DR der Brucer - I'm pretty sure I know what you found in RB. DH Richard tells me I have a big box at home that arrived by FedEx from the VB Outlet Store in Massachusetts. Placing that order was the last thing I did before leaving home Tuesday...
-
I had to lie flat on my back until the ports were removed and then for 6 hours until they were sure the bleeding had stopped.
It was early-on during this resting period that I tried to re-adjust myself by tuning on my side for a moment; this activity pulled off the daisey chain of dressings they had covering the punctures in my arm (they had "trouble inserting the port" and so I had multiple punctures - the result was a rather colorful demonstation of the consequences of a still very low clotting factor.

DR Ginny, I am soooooo glad to see you back! Take care of yourself and don't ever let this happen again!!!!!

Welcome back, Ginny!

I spent this morning sorting stuff in the garage for my big move. Yes, I am moving. Late September I will move from my tiny little 1 bedroom cottage to a swank downtown 1950s era 2 bdrm. apartment in this building:

Of course the cars parked on the street will be more modern.

And all I can say is that I hate packing.

Ginny,
Am I correct in assuming you did not have advance warning angina pains defore your attack?
der Brucer
Not that I was aware of, DR der Brucer, but, funny thing, the "bursitis" in my shoulder is much better now.
An observation:
I did not have my angina attacks until I put added stress on heart (a brisk walk to Woodys work, and chasing loose dogs around the neighborhood).
Even with the attacks with a little rest I recovered and did not seek medical attention.
Only by the serendipity (or, as Edisaurus' hero might say "fortuosity") of having a previously scheduledl check up with my GP did I have occasion to mention the problem and the following scenario unfolded:
Tues - visit with GP
Tues - concult with cardiologist
Tue - cardiac catherization
Tue - by pass surgury
Tue - out of the house for car-trip for an out-of-town pre-viuosly scheduled Doctors visit.
I had clear evidence of major coronary artery blockage, and a major heart attack was just waiting to happen (and the location of the major blockage prevented using a stent); that they were able to get to the by-pass before I had any heart muscular damage was a major factor in my fast recovery.
If memory serves, you were spending a lot of time properly nursing your leg (and thus not putting added strain on your heart that might have given you warning signs.
I geuss we have a case for another good reason those of us
"of a cerain age" ought to give our heart a periodic workout - a good brisk walk clearly can do the trick.

Can BK or someone else keep me from going crazy? I have been trying to determine the names of the last four songs on Bruce's "Kritzer Time" CD. Here is what I came up with:
16 - I'm In Like of You
17 - Lucky Me
18 - I See Rainbows
19 - Samantha
Would someone please provide me with the correct titles? >:(

Back from Jerry's Deli and some poached eggs, bacon, and toast. People are driving like total nutjobs today, and when you honk or look at them they, of course, being the complete ASSES that they are, look back as if YOU'D done something wrong. These people should NOT be on the road. One turd was driving north on Whitsett, not a huge street, going, oh, about eighty. Where are the cops?

She's the only one I have, older, now on meds for her mental issues. She's either not speaking to me or thinks I'm her best friend in the world. I usually have my guard up with her, but this is the first time she's said she's speaking for her kids. Luckily I only felt bad for about a day before my nephews got back to me and told me to ignore her. They often just let her think what she wants to think and do what they want to do, it's easier that way

Whew! I have finished laundry, stripped and changed the bedding, cleaned my bedroom, cleaned the kitchen and am now sitting. Next to the grocery to make sure I have everything to make a nice breakfast for my nephs and grand niece. Nothing fancy, but I'm out of the basics, so I better replenish

I think der Brucer brings up a good point. Although there is much in the press about the symptoms of a heart attack, frequently patients do not display those symptoms--and that does NOT mean there is nothing wrong. I see this all the time, ie, doctors ruling out certain conditions because the usual symptoms don't present themselves. Patients may be following all the guidelines and still run into trouble.
-
DR Jane, I think I will start swimming again this winter.
I don't care for indoor swimming either & chlorine in any pool bothers me. I need to know if I can swim & my physical therapist told me the pool at the Y doesn't use chlorine. Keith is a member and can take me as a guest. I don't know how enjoyable it will be since mostly I prefer swimming laps using the crawl stroke. I have visions of my right stroke pulling me the wrong direction, if I can even swim with it.

And, if I'm reading the cardiac diet correctly, Vera Bradley might be the only vice I have left!
Don't abandon all hope. The "heart-healthy" diet guidelines the hospital passes out are, IMHO, unnecessarily severe. I have found that the trick is to eschew the "DON'T eat this" lists and pay more attention to the "eat less of this, eat more of this" lists. The trick is to find ways to alter your food habits that work toward lowering your cardiac risks while at the same time not decreasing your joy in dining. A nice piece of oven-roasted salmon served with and herbed nice and fresh green beans with rosemary, and forzen yogurt with fresh berries for dessert: it's not roast prime rib, double-stuffed baked potato with sour cream and a hot fudge sunday - but it's still Good Easts.
When dining out in nice restaurants that serve fresh baked bread, I actually prefer dipping the crusty goodness in a mix of Olive Oil and Balsamic vinegar rather than severing it up with butter.
I've had no problem with breakfast out substituting a nice bowl of grits for the home fries.
When shopping, you need to be a compulsive label reader. You might try easing into your diet modifications by avoiding non-fat choices and opting for low fat alternatives - Land'o'Lakes low fat butter with canola oil has a lot less fats that real better, but tastes much better than Smart Choice. Hellmans Low Fat Mayo is pretty good - the non-fat is crap. Opting for Salmon over Orange Roughy is not a great sacrifice.
Pay particular attention to unintended consequences - Fish Oil pills are great supplement for lowering triglycerides - but they also act as blood thinners.
With luck - your body will help you out. When out in a restaurant my son-in-law ordered a giant order of cheesy fries as shared appetizer. Time was I would have dug in with relish - now I took a look at it, and it just didn't look appetizing.

Come on everyone, let's post.

Well, Ginny, I have always known that you had one of the biggest hearts on this site; but who knew it was inflamed?

Very true. ;) If women had similar symptoms as men more would get help in time.

I spent this morning sorting stuff in the garage for my big move. Yes, I am moving. Late September I will move from my tiny little 1 bedroom cottage to a swank downtown 1950s era 2 bdrm. apartment in this building:
Of course the cars parked on the street will be more modern.
And there won't be a lawn to mow. I hope DC Freddy adjusts as quickly as you do.
VIBES FOR A SMOOTH TRANSITION AND MOVE!!!
Did you see my post yesterday that I saw Allan?

So glad to see Ginny back home here with us and posting! What a terrible scare!

I am aware of my cholesterol numbers. I have a rotten family history with cholesterol. It is genetics, not particularly diet related. However, I about half follow a cardiac diet.

Ya, Freddy is probably not going to like that he can't go outside!
I did indeed see the post about my brother. I am wondering if I will see him up here tonight for my sister and brother-in-laws 40th anniversary party. I am not sure who all is coming.

Each of the Kritzer books ordered via this here site came with a special CD of songs sung by Guy Haines, said songs being mentioned in the books.

Sorry to go "silent" there for a while - I've had lots of company this afternoon. My sister-in-law Jayne, Rob & Mary Linda, and, of course, Richard. We have not seen Dr. Jain, but Richard reminds me that someone was probably waiting for him Wednesday afternoon when he was involved with me about 5 times longer than expected in the cath lab.
Oh, and I've received lovely flower arrangements from our church in Lima and from my sister. Talked to her on the phone for a while before Jayne arrived.
-
Thanks, DRs JMK, MBarnum, Matthew, Thom, Jeanne, TCB, and Laura.
And congratulations to MBarnum on the classy new digs!
-
Ginny - Skip and I also send love and best wishes to you.
And I'm sure Toby and Dylan would do so if they understood.
-
Thank you, DR FJL - and Skip (and Tobey and Dylan)
OK, folks, DH Richard is about to leave for the evening and take my laptop with him. I really don't want it here overnight. Don't be alarmed if I don't show up again until tomorrow afternoon.
I love you all and missed you very much!

I always swim with goggles. Maybe you could start with a flutterboard.

Has anyone here read, or even heard about a book called "The Malacca Conspiracy"? I got an e-mail from Amazon that it is avaialble on Kindle; but when I clicked on the site, there is no mention of that book.

I cannot believe this day is over - it was supposed to be an easy day and it was anything but easy - so much unnecessary silliness. The guy finally wrote me - he's in a quandary because he doesn't have his CD so he doesn't know whether he should close the dispute. I asked him to do so, and reminded him that I'd already told him it had been shipped on Thursday, FOUR WEEKS EARLY. We'll see what he does.

Back from a two-mile jog. Found out that the show release that follows Monday's release has already been on CD before, despite its composer assuring me it hadn't. Oh, well. We're going ahead with it because the CD was released in 1994 and the company that did it is known for inferior quality and lousy packaging - so we'll make it sound much better and we're now going to include at least four bonus tracks, maybe five of songs that have never been on CD before.
-
DR Ginny, we missed you dearly and had a fright when we read the news. It is wonderful to see your smiling face again. I hope you had a good night and feel a bit better today.

Nice! Can't wait to find out what the show is! :D Any hints??

Well, today's audition came and went. I hate auditions. I couldn't remember the first few words of my monologue and struggled for a bit and just had to start over, but then I got through the whole thing. After that, my two songs (the last 20 or so measures of both "Love Who You Love" from A Man of No Importance and "I Get a Kick Out of You" from Anything Goes) were better. Now, it's up to the directors. I don't know when I'll hear something.
But it's over. :)
-
Now, I'm going to go shopping for some snacks to bring to the going away party that'll start in about an hour, so I'll be out for the rest of the evening.
Until later!
-
Welcome back, Ginny!

I hope you get the show you want, George.

DR MBARNUM are you selling your house?

This has been a day of people BUGGING me. One customer wrote to complain that his jewel cases were cracked on two of the three London Promises. I told him we have no control over the USPS and how they manhandle things, and that I hoped he would just replace the CD cases or, if not, that I would send him CD cases. He got a little haughty and so I told him to simply return them for a full refund. I can use the stock, frankly.

Me either, DR LAURA - but you couldn't tell it from my telephonic calls.

Prayers and vibes for swift healing for DR Ginny. Sorry to read your description of what happened and hope you're already doing better.
-
Sorry I've been out of it for the last few days. Putting the finishing touches on what will likely be the last issue of the magazine that I've been editing for the last few months. The publisher just doesn't want to listen to what needs to be done and he doesn't care that he's offering too little money to do it.
That and welcome overtime has made for long days and short nights.
-
Looking forward to my copy of London "Promises." I must listen to the Kritzerland redux of the OBC daily at work lately. Can't get enough of Jill O'Hara.

And "twee" is one of my favorite words. So, thank you for the word of the day, BK.

And with that brief bit, good night, all.

My nephew called this morning and told me they had always planned to stop on the way home and he has no idea what his mother is talking about. She never drives this way, so she thinks no one else should either. I did tell him she wrote me twice to say they aren't coming to visit and he thought that was terrible.
This is your sister you are dealing with? Is she older or younger? Is she on any medications?
She's the only one I have, older, now on meds for her mental issues. She's either not speaking to me or thinks I'm her best friend in the world. I usually have my guard up with her, but this is the first time she's said she's speaking for her kids. Luckily I only felt bad for about a day before my nephews got back to me and told me to ignore her. They often just let her think what she wants to think and do what they want to do, it's easier that way
Now I have more understanding of what you go through. Hugs.
Thanks Jane. It's just family. I really need a break from them, especially my brother and sister.
-
One customer wrote to complain that his jewel cases were cracked on two of the three London Promises.
You should explain about the deliberate "distressing" of the jewel cases to give them a fashionable, unique patina; offer to send him a properly "distressed" case so all his cases match.

MBarnum!! Congrats on your move. I think you'll like it. You may be surprised how Freddy adjusts. From my experience and from what I've read, most cats adjust to being indoor only fairly easily, it's the owners feeling sorry for them because they can't go outside that have a harder time adjusting. Just make sure he has lots of toys and things to play with and something to sit on by the windows so he can look out. He'll be ok

I said something a little stronger to my brother about a month ago. I just saw some photos from the gathering at the lake. I had no idea my grandnephew Gabe was going to be there. (The one from Wisconsin) I guess it bothers me that no one even mentioned that to me. That's what happens on my brother's side. They either don't invite me to things like this - or the lie about what it is - like my dad's 80th birthday party - so I don't go and don't find out until it's over that I missed it.
I'm sort of glad I didn't know Gabe was going to be there because I may have gone to the lake. I got so much done today that it's really better I stayed here.

I had a fabulous time at Jackson Browne and David Lindley. The opening act was ...David Lindley and Jackson Browne. It was so fun to see the main act playing back up for the opener...and the opener as part of the main act's band. The concert lasted for 3 hours with only about a 15 minute break between the opening and the band. It was really interesting. Lots of fabulous guitar and other strings. There was a variety of music and styles and it was really an enjoyable evening

I ate some sauteed chicken with mushrooms and onions over rice - it was way too filling so I ran another half-mile. In the meantime, someone's stupid car alarm has been ringing for fifteen minutes about a half-block from here. I kind of want to go out with a baseball bat and shut it off.
