Well, you've read the notes, the notes were not all that giddy but were definitely exhausted, and now it is time for you to post until the exhausted cows come home.

Good morning, all! Yesterday, around noon, the Herbert recording producer inundated me with lots of questions and budget concerns. Beyond recording 11 cello-piano compositions, 14-20 piano solos, we will hopefully record (depending on any singers cancelling a tight schedule and no rescheduling) 5 duets, 2 quartets, 4 numbers with an ensemble backup, and 91 songs. So, I left the apartment around 1:30, ran to Staples whose idiots in their copy dept refuse to have one of their 8.5x11 drawers run in a direction in which 11x17 sheets of paper can be reduced to 8.5x11 copies. I ran to Fed Ex/Knkos and reduced the copies for the producer and headed down to Wall Street. I had to ask directions once, but I walked by the building on Broad Street 3 times since sincere was no address I could see. I arrived about 2:30 to New World Records and by 3, everyone was there. The meeting lasted two and a half hours, and then the foundation head, the producer and I went to a local restaurant and visited for several hours. By the time I got home, all I wanted to do was watch THE CLOSER, chill out and go to bed. As soon as RIZZOLI ANMD ISLES was over, I crashed.

Today, I meet with Skip Kennon for edits at noon. When I get to Toyland, I will pack up some music I need and wait for Skip. Later in the afternoon, my friend Jonathan McDevitt is stopping by to return some music. That's my day.

My other bit of good news is that Sara Jean Ford, who was Kate Baldwin's standby in FINIAN'S RAINBOW, is taking over the role of Christine in PHANTOM OF THE OPERA. It's always good to know pretty young sopranos!

I did two shows with George! He was a real character, and I had heard in 2002 that he had been suffering from dementia (Alzheimer's) and his health was failing. He was always kind to me and I liked hm very much. I'm saddened by this news.

And even if he hadn't written anything else:

 “Can’t Help Falling in Love,” recorded by Elvis Presley;
“The Lion Sleeps Tonight,” recorded by the Tokens;
“What a Wonderful World,” recorded by Louis Armstrong.

Not a bad legacy.

John G,

In answer to last night's question,

"So, Druxy, will there be a signing in Austin any time soon?"

I'm sure there will be, though none as been set yet.  Also, hopefully, one in Los Angeles.

As a former publicist, you know that I will certainly keep everybody informed.

I'm also a great fan of Lloyd Webber's PHANTOM score.  Yes, yes, the music is derivative and it encourages overwrought performances, but I also find it passionate and incredibly theatrical and perfectly suited to the vehicle.  I also give it a play every once in a while

A friend was visiting London after the show originally opened and I had asked her to pick up the cast recording for me.  The double CD set has a quirk I never understood--there are no individual tracks.  Each disc play an act of music and is in continuous track.  I never heard an explanation why it was done that way.

The other day there were posting about going to see musicals that have been shortened or censored for production.

It reminded me that Tits and Ass from A Chorus Line became "This and That"

Which then gave us the immortal line: "You're all looking at my this, aren't you?" (or something like that)

Good morning, all!

Congrats on the speedy sell-out, BK!

Funny thing with the word of the day: I actually am quite familiar with it, as I'm doing a bit of astronomy studying right now (for those who care about such things: the Jewish calendar has a "Y18k" problem - over the next 13,000 years, the discrepancy between the solar and lunar calendars will cause Passover to fall out during the summer, not the spring. The cleanest solution is probably to declare the year 6,576CE a non-leap year by the Jewish calendar. Hopefully, 4,500 years is enough time to get all the rabbis to agree on this...)

Alternate song of the day: "Stars" from Les Mis (to my mind, a much more bearable "megamusical" than Phantom, which I never really loved all that much)

Riders to the Stars with Martha Hyer in Space.....as opposed to taking up space, which is what she is doing now.

BTW - Martha turned down GREEN ACRES because she was a MOVIE STAR not a TV STAR.

Last night someone posted a fun clip on ATC:

THE MYSTERY OF EDWIN DROOD -- "Don't Quit While You're Ahead" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jxrU5_je85E&feature=youtube_gdata_player)

It's a very 80's music video with the show's song redone as a pop single.  I really don't like the draggy tempo, but it's fun to see the original cast in costume and in 80's stylings (Jana Schneider looks incredible in her Clara Bow hair do) along with creator Rupert Holmes.

Tuesday morning greetings!  Well, I'm off to our family doctor this afternoon to see about the cough and chest congestion I've had for almost a week.  I thought it was just allergies, from sleeping with the windows open when the mold count was high.  Yesterday, the cardiologist told me I could take Zyrtec, which I did and it knocked me out for the night.  This morning I woke up with laryngitis and bronchial tightness.  Just want to make sure it's nothing serious before starting rehab tomorrow...

I don't remember it at all, probably because my local cable company did not carry VH1 until about '89.

Someone commented on ATC that there was an actual contest involved but there was absolutely zero viewer interest and thus no winner was ever announced.

I have three loads of laundry to be done. . .one is in the dryer right now.
An old fried has come over today to do the weeding that has given the side yard the air of Grey Gardens.
While I was picking up that old friend, Borders called to see if I would come in to work today.  Mum told them that I was working on important chores for her today.
My next day off is one week from today. . .
Yesterday I was asked if I would work a Saturday morning cafe shift.  I said yes, as long as I was done before 3.  They scheduled me from 9am to 2pm AT A SISTER STORE almost twenty miles away!
I will be opening that store's cafe by myself, in spite of the fact that I've never, ever been in that store's cafe, or worked in that store ever.  (That's a lot of "evers").
On Sunday, we have a mandatory three hour meeting to discuss the new Borders' Rewards Programming.
I'm busy.

DR Druxy, I have not been able to confirm Ms. Capri's death so far. I heard it from a friend who heard it from a friend, so, don't know if the source is reliable or not. I tried to check the LA Times but found no info on a car crash with someone by her name, but maybe that paper doesn't bother with reporting car accidents in the Los Angeles area.

From what I heard the accident was on Friday and she died on Monday.

Winds are blowing up a huge fuss with magazine racks and large limbs darting about here and there.  But it has cooled things down to a nice 90 degrees. Better than the 102 it was earlier.

"Retro Actress Capri Dies In Car Crash"

Sad To Report That Ahna Capri Was Killed In A Car Accident Over The Weekend

I saw that, too.

Very sad.  I was very fond of her.

There is currently an old coot on the Film Score Monthly message board.  This guy and one other were singlehandedly responsible for the demise of the filmusl listserve.  This guy has been in the business for many years, is retired, and has nothing to do but sit at his computer all the livelong day.  When filmusl closed down, he found the FSM board - he tried posting under a fake name but a few of us knew exactly who he was, so we outed him - now he posts under his own name.  He pontificates, acts as if everything he says is gospel (most of it is pure speculation and some of it he is absolutely incorrect) - he cannot stop posting and making it all about - HIM.  It is most annoying.

Having endless sync problems with Ye Olde iPhone and have been doing their chat thing a few times today - apparently there is a KNOWN issue with the iPhone doing double calendar entries - I'm fine with that as long as it's fixed.  But now I entered an appointment into the phone's calendar - that is supposed to synch with my computer and mobile me calendars - it hasn't - so now I'm waiting to chat again, and this time I see no reason to be docile, oh, no, no reason to be docile at all.

My other bit of good news is that Sara Jean Ford, who was Kate Baldwin's standby in FINIAN'S RAINBOW, is taking over the role of Christine in PHANTOM OF THE OPERA. It's always good to know pretty young sopranos!

Or hunky young baritones.

I still enjoy Phantom and listen to the CD now and then.....and go see it when it comes through town....

Having seen the WSMA in the Vegas production of PHANTOM; I can't imagine sitting thru the longer and slower Broadway production of PHANTOM OF THE OPERA.

I took the long way home from the vet today to avoid a fire.  Details are still not available as to how many houses have burned or if the fire is under control.  We could see the fire from the vets office.  About an hour ago the office said it looked like there was less smoke.  The online paper hasn't updated the news since 5:35.  At least there isn't much wind today.

I went to Costco today at lunch and I bought the 3-disc DVD to "The Day the Earth Stood Still" with Keanu Reeves for only $6.99!  This set has the remake on DVD, a downloadable digital copy of the remake on CD-ROM and the third disc is the original 1951 movie.  That's actually why I bought it.  Costco was also selling the original movie on its own...for $6.99!  I got both versions for the same price as the original.  HOWEVER, when I opened it, parts of the case were broken and the disc for the original movie was scratched. :P So, I'm off to Costco again to return this copy and get a new one...one that isn't damaged.

Until later!

Yes and no Laura.  It will be ok.  Since it can't be exposed to air we expected to take a long time.  Now it is longer then expected & the reason for the antibiotic.  One spot refuses to heal.

Anyway, I find by day 2 we fall into a groove of sorts and it's much more comfortable.   Of course the messages are backing up from others, but I'm just going to deal with them later.  Looks like a couple more days before we're done.  I have to admit I do like being in trial.

Sorry, I have been out of it most of the day. Just a non-stop whirlwind of oddities. I thought I had a job interview. Turned out to be some pyramid scheme to bilk unemployed people of what little money they have. I really loathe that kind of behavior.

Then it was off to celebrate Restaurant Week (three-course dinners for $35) with a friend I needed to catch up with. Turns out he needed a sympathetic ear because a lifelong friend of his and his wife's, whom I've met a few times, has just learned he has cancer of the jaw and that it may have already metastisized (sp?). Anyway, both of them will be helping their friend and his wife through a difficult patch ahead.

Yet another ugly instance of the insensible nature of this disease.

I went for a jog at seven - I've been jogging in the early evening after it's cooled off from these horrendously hot 100 degree days.  Tonight, it was still 100 at seven.  I could barely go the mile and a half.  I had two white peaches for dessert and then two teeny-tiny pork baos I got at Costco - only three hundred calories for the two - so today I think I ate under 1200 calories, probably closer to 1000 or 900.
