Jane - I was just asking last night if at this point it would be all right to not have to worry about spoiler space two days after the CLOSER episode had aired.. (I think everyone was being careful.)

"THE CLOSER" SPOILER

Maybe this is wild fear on my part - but even in addition to what it says about the main character now contributing to a death in a pre-meditated way - I worry that when people see prosecutors go back on deals or screw over the person they had a deal with on a popular Tv show - it sends a message that deals are deals only when the prosecutors can't find a way around it.

And when a character a show has depicted as a positive character we're supposed to understand for a whole series does such a thing - might it have an effect on real-life people trusting prosecutors in such informant deals in the future.

Re: THE CLOSER SPOILERS

I know I personally appreciate it since we are behind a season here.  But as long as the words "THE CLOSER" are written on the first line before the spoilerish info I would be okay.

Good morning, all! The laundry is in the washers and I have to mop and vacuum before the apartment is reassembled. I had a very peculiar dream involving Steve Sondheim last night, although I remember nothing of it now except tat the cover of the vocal score to A FUNNY THING HAPPENED ON THE WAY TO THE FORUM is indeed red, so I was dreaming in color.

I am on my final round of pricing today for the McGlinnventory: I've got abot 3 pages of composer editions to look up on the internet and price, and I've got work following that on notes for the two Herbert recordings.

BK, congratulations on a successful presentation.

TOD: The first song cut from a show that I really fell in love with was "Everybody Loves You" from the Rodgers & Hart  I'D RATHER BE RIGHT. At that time in the late 1960s,  the cut song everyone was writing about as a fantastic lost Rodgers & Hart song was "It's Pretty In The City," which never registered with me. My current goal is to hear the lost numbers "The Quests" and "Face To Face" that were in the Toronto opening night performance of CAMELOT before I kick. I have too many favorites to list all of the obscure  show songs I love, but they run from "Barney O'Flynn" from the 1903 BABES IN TOYLAND to "Let America Come" from the demo of FOR THE LOVE OF TIFFANY, with about 100 years worth of shows in between.

Well, my work place found the "leak" in the software that prohibits us from visiting all web sites categorized as "entertaingment" or "social networking"....grrrrrr. So, I made it a point to sit down at the computer at home this morning before heading off. I must do this more often because I sooooo miss reading the notes every day. Anyway, "Lost in Boston" was simply wonderful last night! I just LOVE Alet Taylor and Jason Graae. I could watch them all day. The songs were all really terrific too - lots of story songs (or I guess they're called "plot songs," which I just learned last night) and those are Mark's favorite kind, and I love them too.

DR DRUXY - I enjoyed your book very much......the personal family stories were most interesting & entertaining....and the stories of your work were also....

I shall have to do some thinking before I do my AMAZON review, but I will do it Sunday or Monday.

I especially liked the story of how your parents met, the boxing contract story, and all of the DALLAS stories.  Your beginning in the publicity biz was very enterprising!

Mr Glenn Hughes was of course a friend of Frances Farmer and appeared on her episode of THIS IS YOUR LIFE......did he ever mention her while you were there - or was she persona non grata at UW?

And no mention of my favorite columnist of the time.....Rona Barrett.....

Happy birthday, Ron!

Another observation about last night: I don't know what it is about L.A., but Mark and I seem to run into Gary Stockdale every where we go. It doesn't matter if it's a musical theater event like LIB or a Brian Wilson rock concert, but he's always there. And it's always great to see him. I wish he'd sing live more - he has one of the most beautiful voices I've ever heard.

Thanks.  I'm very pleased that you enjoyed it.

I don't think that the boxing story has ever been told before.  I only learned about it a few years ago.  It's amazing what you learn about your parents after they're gone.

Glenn Hughes was really on the way out when I was at the UW.  I never really got close to him, and I don't recall Frances Farmer ever being mentioned.

On the other hand, one of my high school Drama teachers (Joe Steele-Shaw) was always mentioning her, but at that point in my life, I really wasn't that familiar with her work, so it didn't make that big of an impression.  It was after college that I "discovered" her.

I never had many dealings with Rona.  I tried to avoid the columnists who "hurt" people.

As you may know, Betty Grable did not know she was dying until she heard it on Rona's broadcast.

Again, thanks for the nice words.

Happy Birthday Ron!

Congrats, Bruce & Co. on your rousing success! I had the extreme pleasure of meeting Pamela Myers over a decade ago, and she was as absolutely charming as one could wish for (if a bit creeped out by the fawning 20-year-old with a Company LP that was older than he).

TOD:
I'm taking the TOD to mean "favorite songs that were IN a well-known show but aren't well-known." With that in mind, here goes (in no particular order at all, and an extremely incomplete list):

"Marry the Man Today" from Guys and Dolls
"Try Me" from She Loves Me
"Will I?" from Rent
"Children and Art" from Sunday in the Park (The waterworks start every time Marie sings "Mama is everywhere/he must have loved her so much")
"Now I Have Everything" from Fiddler
"All You Have to do is Wait" from City of Angels
"Lament" from Into the Woods

Happy B'day to Ron!

A big congrats to BK for what we knew would be a brilliant success!

TOD:

"Windflowers" from THE GOLDEN APPLE (Judy Kaye does a great version of this on one of her albums)
"You're the Woman for the Man who has Everything" from SUPERMAN
"Everybody Likes to Take a Bow" from HAZEL FLAGG
"A Little More Heart" from HAZEL FLAGG
"Ilona" from SHE LOVES ME
"Night Song" from GOLDEN BOY
"Never Will I Marry" from GREENWILLOW
"Just for Today" from HER FIRST ROMAN
"Penny Plain, Twopence Colored" from KEAN
"They Couldn't Compare To You"  from OUT OF THIS WORLD
"Old Maid" from 110 IN THE SHADE
"Once Knew A Fella" from DESTRY RIDES AGAIN
"Normandy" from ONCE UPON A MATTRESS
"Come With Me" from BOYS FROM SYRACUSE
"In The Heart of the Dark" from VERY WARM FOR MAY

TOD:

My favorite obscure musical number is BOOGIE WOOGIE BOOGYMAN from the 1944 film MURDER IN THE BLUE ROOM.

"There's a ghost in Tin Pan Alley, walkin' on the piano keys. He's a jivin ghost, who can make the most, of his rhythmic tendencies..."

I recently sent this movie to BK, and am eager to know what he thinks of the film and this song, once he has a chance to view it.

The laundry is finished, I've spoken to the Mighty Rob Berman and the Naked Hercules Zak Stains via telephone, vacuumed and mopped the floors, sent importanyt emails, and bathed. Now it's time to actually accomplish some work.

I need a nap.

Silly boy, you should know you can't play a CD in a VCR.

Back in the early days of CDs, when they listed an 800 number on all the releases in case of quality issues, I used to call, put on  a "Gomer Pyle" voice and tell them my stylus was just slipping over the surface of the disc, as well as the hole in the middle being too big for the turntable.  They were not amused.  :)

If still needed, continued SPOILER

I kept thinking the guy would refuse to leave the car, and later he had time to get back in it.  The episode certainly generated some interesting comments.

Today is the 15th anniversary of the opening of Cleveland's

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (http://rockhall.com/)

I'd have guessed it was older than that.  One of their slogans is "If it's too loud, you're too old."  When I visited there 2+ years ago, it was so I guess I am.

I want to kick some butt today. I hate it when I send new music files to people who tell you, six weeks later, can you send me the following numbers? I expect the MD for this recording project to be more on top of things than he is and it's driving me mad, especially since I discovered that on Monday he had none of the computerised music in his book and I asked him to go through it and tell me what manuscript copies needed to be replaced. He has not yet done it and this affected his rehearsal with Rebecca Luker today. Don't complain to me when you wonder why your career's going nowhere.

There should be minimum danger, unless the storm fails to make it's predicted turn to night (which is exactly what Katrina did, at the last minute - sparing the Panhandle and destroying the rest of the gulf coast.

I'm just choosing the Unsung Musicals songs - much harder - so many good ones on volumes one and three - two not so much.  There will be no put-togethers in this show - I felt last night's show was one song too long so that will take care of that.  The daunting song is Sherry - I have an idea who can do it, but she'd have to fly in and I don't know if she would want to or if she even can.

Back from a really fun lunch with my two Adriana fans (and the father of one of them).  They are truly obsessed with the books and Adriana - both of them have read them multiple times and can quote a lot of dialogue.  It was so gratifying to hear them talk about their favorite scenes and characters and moment - it just makes me so happy to know that those books are loved by the age range they were written for (these girls are actually twenty although both look MUCH younger).  They totally identify with Adriana, and Miranda's dad told me she's now shopping at vintage clothing stores.  I told them a little about the new book and they seemed really excited by the direction that book will take.

They've been to locations talked about in the book, and after lunch they were all going to the alley in back of Mel's to see the site of the first book's murder - the diagram in the book is of that alley and everything is there down to the last detail.

Now, I guess I should get motivated to jog, after which I'll sit on the couch like so much fish and finish French Can Can, and then figure out what else I want to watch.

I've made the preliminary list of Unsung Musicals songs - it's a little alarming how many duets there were and I have five or six on this list, which is a little daunting, but they're all really great songs.  So, I may cut one and replace it with a solo.

My pet food place moved so I went to the new location for the first time today. I buy bags of holistic health cat food because one cat has an allergy to wheat, which is in most cat foods. The brand I usually buy changed their packaging, but I bought what I usually get (I thought) and got it home. When I opened the bags I noticed that they had changed the shape of the food, it was round and thicker, probably harder for them to chew. I usually mix this with another type of food, but today, the top came off the container and cat food went EVERYWHERE. I swept it up and noticed the kitties were eating it but flinging off the new food. When I looked at the bag, I realized it was DOG FOOD. It looked jut like the cat food but had a small silhouette of a dog in the corner. The store owner knows I've been buying cat food there for years and she didn't notice either. So I think I just wasted $60 (and that was after a 20% discount.) Argh!!

Lunch was split pea and ham soup.  The ham was sliced very thin like prosciutto and in slivers.  Very, very tasty.  My main course was veal raviolis in a plum reduction sauce (tasted like wild cherries).  Dessert was tiramisu.  A whole one was brought out with candles.  After I carefully blew them out (so as not to spray the food), we all had a very nice portion.

It was "yum".

RIP Bonnie Blue Butler:

The GWTW museum is down the street form my old house in Marietta, and she came to the museum several times; everyone said she was very sweet.

That's sad.

Cammie was a charming lady.  I sat next to her a couple of times at Ray Courts' HCS in Burbank.

I agree Cilla.  I'm sure this is very much on your mind after your last trial.

Oh, not so much from that trial.  It's the federal system, nothing new.  They don't do a lot of things like taking fingerprints or trying to establish things with physical evidence, they just get cooperators to snitch and as soon as they have a couple who say similar things about someone, they indict.   There are mandatory minimum sentences and you can't get anything less unless you cooperate and the prosecutor files a motion for substantial assistance.  The people who get the longest sentences are the people who don't know anything.  Welcome to America.

Not only "know nothing" but too lacking in guile to be "creative".

DR elmore - FYI: Part One of the "The Real Housewives of New Jersey: Reunion" is on Bravo tonight at 11:00pm, and then again right afterwards at 12:15am.

Thanks, DR Jose! Maybe they'll punch out the skank ho porn film maker Danielle; she's a mess.

Yes, DR Elmore, Glendower is in Lebanon.  Also the Golden Lamb, but they're in the throes of a major remodeling project.

I'm glad Alet will be in more than one show.

Looks like this weekend will also be a dvd musical marathon at my place.  I think I have enough to keep me busy for 3 days.

And I'll play all the Unsung Musicals cd's.

Yea, yard work & sunshine, musical dvd's  and cd's, that should keep the blues away. ;D

Finished my viewing for the evening and am now relaxing.  The morning is going to absolutely nutty - we've got to get a LOT of discs shipped in a very short period of time.  However, everything is prepared - all forms filled out, packages and boxes ready.  The big help, of course, is doing no more overseas dealers - that used to take up most of the time.

Cilla - Thanks for that perspective.  On TV there's often some verification of what informants say, but likely not in real life, i guess.

Oh sometimes there is verification, but I'm finding they don't even take fingerprints in many cases.  In my last case their verification was in part a video of three men moving boxes into a storage area.  My client said they were boxes and he didn't know what was in them.  the snitches said it was drugs and he had seen them when they were put in the box earlier.  Both sides can argue the video verifies their position.   Real life is more like that.  Two stories that fit the same physical evidence.  You never really know what the truth is.
