Title: WALKING DISTANCE
Post by: bk on October 11, 2010, 10:58:40 PM
Well, you've read the notes, the notes walked and had distance, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're currently within walking distance and yet are still not home.

Great rehearsal tonight.  Finished blocking Act One in preparation for running Act One tomorrow.  Thank goodness there is not much dialogue in this show and where there are songs, they really dictate where the movement should be.  Things are coming along great.

I loved THE TWILIGHT ZONE, THE ALFRED HITCHCOCK HOUR and THE OUTER LIMITS, even though they scared the heck out of me. I loved scary stuff as a kid (I had subscriptions to CREEPY AND EERIE) and loved to make creepy crawlers when all my friends were playing with Barbies. The scary movies of today have zero appeal to me.

I can never remember the name of the episode, but my favorite "Twilight Zone" was the one with Howard Duff where he's in his office and, suddenly, somebody yells "Cut!" and he's on a movie set.

I've never forgotten that one.

Not sure what kind of Internet service I'll have there, so I may/may not be on this board for this week.  I fly back home on Monday.

If any of you L.A. folk are around the Mystery and Imagination Bookshop on Brand Blvd. in Glendale at 2 pm on Sunday (17), please stop by.

Good morning, all! I forgot to set the alarm and I overslept. I was having a peculiar and frustrating dream in which I wandered around my apartment in search of a dry towel for my bath and I coud find none. My roommates in this dream were Zak Stains and Peter Clem, a friend I've not seen in about ten years. There was also another person in this dream helping me to unpack and put things away, so I gather I'd just moved into this place. Very strange.

So, this morning I have the McGlinnventory followed by an editing session with Mr Skip Kennon. I've been invited to a hootenany tonight hosted by David Lutkin and I hope I can go. It's in midtown, and DJ said he would email me the address today.

I see we're having connection problems this morning.

Cat napped from 12:00am to about 4:00 when the DP left for work. Now, the DD's and I are watching the 2005 TV version of "Once Upon a Mattress" that I had on the DVR.  I should be asleep soon as it's pretty bad.  Actually, it's really bad.  The charm of the original script is gone.  As my kids would say, "It's total forced happiness" which is not the way it should be.

Loved "Twilight Zone." And I have a book somewhere that breaks down every original episode with title, cast, synopsis and notes. That said, I don't know the titles of most of my favorites. Of course, being a foodie, there's "To Serve Mankind." Then there's the one with Burgess Meredith as the bookworm who ends up all alone in the work and it's filled with books, except he'll loose or break his glasses by the end of the episode and realize he's in a hell of his own.

But my favorite wasn't even filmed for "TZ." It was the short film of "Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge," which aired in the last season when the show had gone to an hour. It was an almost-silent episode as the story unfolded and it was just beautifully filmed. The ending was a shocker to me.

TOD - I don't remember any specific episodes until someone else describes them.

"To Serve Man":  Aliens come to earth.  They make contact with earth's leaders.  They seem peaceful, willing to share wonderful technology and committed to helping the human race.  They present a book to the leader of a body of countries (the U.N.?), the title of which is translated as "To Serve Man."    Mankind is elated, life improves and the aliens offer trips in their ships to humanity to their homeworld.   I don't remember the "star" of the episode, but he has signed up for a trip.  Just as he's about to board, a female associate, who has been involved in translation of the book, runs to him and says, "To Serve Man...it's a COOK BOOK."  He is herded onto the space ship and fade out.

Today's news from the PR firm battlefront department:

1.  Small PR firm handles press for several niche studios, which are receiving their biggest coverage from our site.
2.  Small PR repeatedly chooses not to respond to screener requests or follow up emails/phone calls.
3.  Site rep (that would be me) finally, after several weeks of no response, emails the studio.
4.  Suddenly PR rep is *very* available and *very* angry.
5.  Tough cookies.

I really liked the acoustics part of the show. But I don't think having them dance in the round was that great. It was too small.

My favorites were Jennifer and Derek (totally amazing) and Audrina and Tony.

My two least favorite celeb dancers (The Situation and Bristol Palin) I thought were sort of wrongly berated last night. I actually felt bad for them both.  Here they are performing live in front of millions of people. And the judges were really mean to them. I thought that Karina did an amazing routing. The lifts were really good. And the routine was really fun to watch.

And Bristol, even though she's stiff as a board. She still tries and has some potential. It's weird because the first week or two i thought that the judges were being way too easy on her. But now I find them being too hard!

I had two copies of a Twilight Zone picture book that featured that episode.  When Miss Donna Douglas came to my town for a personal  appearance, I took her one to give her.  She said "Oh, I can't take your book....the director told me it had come out, but I've never seen it."  I gave it to her, and didn't tell her it only cost me twenty five cents.

This is nice to hear. I'm reading that the cats most at risk are under a year old.  Ricky is just a bundle of energy, I came home this noon and played with him for about 30 minutes.  I used the cat dancer  and he played and played and played.  He finally slowed down, ate a little lunch, and went to the other side of the room.  Just enough to calm him down.  There's a nice sunny spot in his room, hopefully he'll camp out there

http://finance.yahoo.com/family-home/article/110957/gap-changes-logo-why?mod=family-kids_parents (http://finance.yahoo.com/family-home/article/110957/gap-changes-logo-why?mod=family-kids_parents)

OMG, I've been so worried about that logo I haven't been able to sleep!! ;)

One of my young AAUW friends is a graphic artist and here's her Facebook comment about this topic:

"Dang, I could have earned a lot of money.  Helvetica and a square."

Things have been going too swimmingly on the Herbert recording: I got an email from my coloratura soprano who's got a lot of music to record and she's got strep throat and laryngitis and doesn't thonk she can record in next week's sessions. Even worse, her availability dates in November and January don't align with our recording schedule.

So . . . I've emailed our producer Judy to see if we can get oen more day at the Academy on Jan. 8; if not, i've got to find a new coloratura ASAP.

Hello, everyone.

Thanks to both Jack and Larry re the Pachelbel recordings. I'm looking for a CD, as I'm an old-fashioned, CD-player kind of girl.

Belated congrats to Fred and Skip!

Vibes to TD for good health and a comfortable digestive track.

I can't recall the first TWILIGHT ZONE episode I saw, nor do I have a favorite. However, I shall be putting the entire series into my Netflix queue, so I may revisit it.

Thank you everyone for the personal vibes,  it has been a trying day.
Miss Dixie's trip to the vet, including my personal SINUS issue (at least it wasn't digestive), was met with good and not-so-good news.
The positive side is that she is showing no signs of glaucoma.
The not-very-positive side it that both eyes require more expertise than our vet, the amazing Daniel Murphy, has to offer.
(When Miss Dixie was a pup, there was concern on the vet's part about her sight and hearing since she is almost entirely one color, and both or her eyes are blue; evidently in huskies that can be cause for concern, even later in life).
To be on the safe side, Dr. Murphy started Dixie on ten days worth of antibiotic and prednisone and faxed her information to a canine opthamologist.
We have a follow-up appointment with Dr. Murphy next Tuesday, if the meds aren't doing anything for her, we may need to set up an appointment with the ophthalmologist.
So, I say that DD Miss Dixie requires more vibes than her family does right now.

Incidentally, for me, this is one of those pain-free days.  I have them every now and then.

Little Ricky is doing pretty well today.  He tolerated me putting cream on his elbow quite well and he's been eating and eating.  I think he's getting settled in.  Callie REALLY wants to go see him, but not yet.    I called the Humane Society today and told them that my vet suspects ringworm.  The woman on the phone was shocked.  She got his records and said no one noticed anything like that and if they had they would have pulled him off the floor, put him in the isolation room and treated him.   I'm to call them when I have the results.

It's been an insane day - I really just wanted to relax after going to storage - but I was so intent to go through the boxes I hadn't been through and to nuke everything I didn't need - so that took quite some time, plus the helper, due to some stupid, sickening stunt pulled by some rock band on the 405 freeway, didn't get to me till after noon - she spent an HOUR on the freeway because of those losers - they apparently have been arrested, and I hope they don't name them so these creeps get free publicity and then sell hundreds of downloads - because that's the kind of idiot society we live in and that's exactly what would happen.

I am thinking that since Little Ricky wasn't neutered, he may not have even seen a vet at the shelter. Little Ricky was only there a day, I think Cillaliz said.

I don't think the kittens I get are seen by the shelter vets before I get them. The techs do give them the deworming meds, though. But I don't think a vet examines them.

Thanks!  I refuse to put on rubber gloves and an apron and not touch and cuddle with Ricky as many websites suggest, I am washing my hands and changing my clothes every time I leave his room, which is pretty funny.  I did laundry two days ago and already have two loads I'm doing tonight.

So I'm really hoping for a different diagnosis.  He's really eating well and sleeping - I fell asleep on the bed in there earlier. The spot was really red today.  I'm hoping that he starts showing improvement tomorrow. That will likely mean that the antibiotic is working

You're right.  He was dewormed and given some shots, but not rabies because you need to be a licensed vet to give it.  I also figure it was the weekend crew.  I did notice the spot when I was there, but didn't think ringworm.

I have one very strong TZ memory, and it strangely is not a well known or well remembered episode.  We were in Las Vegas with my parents and I remember they were going out to hear Steve and Eydie and left me and my sisters alone in the hotel.  My sisters insisted that we watch TZ, even though I was barely older than a toddler and was very scared.  It was one of the hour long episodes, it featured Mike Nelson (of Peyton Place fame) getting stuck in a mysterious town.  The scene that I will never forget is the big, furry "Tramp"-like dog getting killed by the car crash and then miraculously being alive again a second later.

Have not ordered the new cd yet, should I ?

Why wouldn't you - you seem to enjoy all of them and you haven't missed one yet.  There are less than seventy left.

I am watching the rescue on CNN.com and there is no annoying anchor babble going on.

Back from the ER. I waited 2 1/2 hours before they would see me. Then they didn't really do anything for the next 2 1/2 hours except give me a drip. They think it may be dehydration or a virus, but they're not sure. Meantime, I'm not able to focus for long stretches and I'm exhausted.

Hopefully things will be a little better in the morning.
