Title: SPILLING THE BEANS
Post by: bk on October 18, 2010, 11:44:01 PM
Well, you've read the notes, the notes spilled the beans, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they've just spilled some beans and have given them to a close personal friend of theirs named Jack.

I'm Back

TOD
Actually several National Film Board of Canada shorts

The Railrodder with Buster Keaton
The Plot: After literally walking to Canada from England, Buster takes a cross-country trip across Canada on a railcar

And a great companion piece: Buster Keaton Rides Again a documentary about the making of The Railrodder.

Neighbours (Notice the Canadian/British spelling) had no idea it was from 1952. A classic. It was nominated for 2 Oscars and won one. One of those strange quirks. Best Documentary Short (For which it won and was not a documentary at all) and was nomianted Best SHort Subject (One Reel) which it really wat it was.

It was a live stop motion animated story about two neighbours who fight over a flower that happens to be on the border of their properities.

The Rise And Fall Of The Great Lakes
A comedy and a pseudo documentary at the same time. A man canoes his way through the great lakes

"It features a man on a canoe tour of the Great Lakes while the geological time frame changes around him. He finds himself atop the great glacier, and then suddenly falling from the sky as it is removed. His canoe teeters from a cliff after the shoreline vanishes. He sips pure water from the lake as it suddenly changes to a modern polluted state."

Good morning, all! This morning I head back into the studio with Margaret Jane Wray, who has a lot of solos to record as well as some ensemble work with Steven LaBrie, Rose Sullivan, George Dvorsky, Zak Stains, and Korliss Uecker. I'm hoping we have a good and productive day.

I was in bed by 10 and up at 6:30. I have no memory of any dreams last night, ut I do remember that I slept fitfully and that I was up several times during the night looking at the clock. The Oaf made a lot of noise before 10, but I certainly didn't hear him after that. For all I know, he spent the night elsewhere.

Can one purchase a region-free Blu-Ray player? I've been thinking about buyng one and my chief non-region source of information is DR MBarnum.

DR vixmom, I am so sorry to hear the latest report!

TOD: Anything with Buster Keaton. Most of Chaplin. There's a hilarious short about somebody breaking all 10 of the 10 commandments in about 10 minutes or so, the title of which I forgot. And I love De Duve, which BK pointed out. I think it holds up well and here's a link to it:

There was also a beautiful little film I remember seeing on PBS--very short--about an elderly woman making her husband breakfast.  It was very simply done and has to be seen to be appreciated.  I can't recall the title...

Morning, all!

Health vibes, xylophones, & strings for Vixmom's mother

TOD: I'm not a movie person at all, and even less of a "short" person, so I'm not dealing with too long a list. Right now, I'm going through a bunch of Three Stooges films, of which my favorite so far is "Pop Goes the Easel," just for a scene in which the boys pretend to be foreign, and random gibberish gets interspersed with Italian opera and lower-East side Yiddish.

Sorry to hear about Mr Johnny Sheffield.....Bomba movies were some of my favorites as I was growing up, although even then they looked pretty cheap.

Mr Sheffield gave an interview talking about his days in Hollywood as Bomba.  One of his friends was Mr Ben Chapman who later played The Creature From the Black Lagoon - on land.....  Mr Chapman who was part Polynesian, did a dance act with his sister at a Hollywood night club - and sometimes Johnny would join them onstage.

That must have been QUITE a show.

BK, I do hope you release the film as a DVD also. I have yet to upgrade to a Blue and Ray player, and probably won't be doing so for several years. So far there have been no Blue and Ray releases that I wanted, or rather that I needed.

The thinking now, as I said in the notes, is that this will be a Blu-Ray/DVD combo pack, which means it will contain one blu-ray and one DVD.  And there will be nothing on the blu-ray that requires a player with any updates - no BD-live or latest technology, just the two short films and extras.

Well, I've had a busy morning.  Took Little Ricky to the vet (thanks for the vibes). The vet thinks it's getting better (yeah!)  but I still left him for his lime sulfur dip.  I'm sure he's had it by now and I warned them he does not like baths of any shape or kind.  I pity the vet tech who had to do that one.  So they have to leave it on and it dries on him which can take all day.   I'll pick him up after work and take him home.  I'm not going to the meetings I was scheduled to go to tonight. I'll stay home with the kits.

I had an open morning at the office  (lots to do, but no appointments or court) so I went home after I dropped Ricky off and cleaned his room.   I vacuumed and vacuumed, cleaned everything I could with Clorox Clean-up spray (the one with bleach) washed the bedspread and comforter and stripped the bed, sprayed the mattress with lysol and remade the bed.  After all that was done and the windows open airing out the room I invited Callie and Boo in.   I didn't let them use his freshly cleaned litter box or eat out of his freshly cleaned food dish, but they sniffed and sniffed.  This is their favorite room too.  It was funny Boo was cautiously looking behind a box and I said "Boo!"  she jumped about 4 feet.
Title: Re: SPILLING THE BEANS
Post by: Cillaliz on October 19, 2010, 09:46:11 AM
I know I can't make it a perfectly clean environment. But if I didn't do this much and Callie and Boo get it, I'd feel terribly guilty for not cleaning.  Now I'll just feel like it was inevitible and I'll still have a clean house.   One room a day.   Three down....10 to go!

Topic of the Day:  The Mysterious Explorations of Jasper Morello (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vORsKyopHyM).  I love this one.

Nominated for an Oscar and for a BAFTA award, Jasper Morello is a short feature made in a unique style of silhouette animation developed by director Anthony Lucas and inspired by the work of authors Edgar Alan Poe and Jules Verne. In the frontier city of Carpathia, Jasper Morello discovers that his former adversary Doctor Claude Belgon has returned from the grave. When Claude reveals that he knows the location of the ancient city of Alto Mea where the secrets of life have been discovered, Jasper cannot resist the temptation to bring his own dead wife Amelia back. But they are captured by Armand Forgette, leader of the radical Horizontalist anti-technology movement, who is determined to reanimate his terrorist father Vasco. As lightning energises the arcane machineries of life in the floating castle of Alto Mea, Jasper must choose between having his beloved restored or seeing the government of Gothia destroyed. Set in a world of iron dirigibles and steam powered computers, this gothic horror mystery tells the story of Jasper Morello, a disgraced aerial navigator who flees his Plague-ridden home on a desperate voyage to redeem himself.

Also winner of the Grand Prix award at the Annecy Animation Festival, Jasper has also won the top honours at the Canadian Film Centre's Worldwide Short Film Festival, Best Animation at Flickerfest 2005, Best Animation at the Sydney Film Festival Dendy awards and Best Animation at Toronto worldwide shorts.

Re the marble (again). If the floor has been sealed, and it probably has been, then cleaning it should be fairly safe. It SHOULD be sealed, though.

I bought the tile for my marble countertops and floor from Architectual Ceramics in Alexandria, VA. You could call them at 703-299-6200 and ask what they recommend (since I can't recall the name of the product).

Tom Bosley (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20101019/ap_on_en_tv/us_obit_tom_bosley;_ylt=Ap6G_adTP1DzshStYBi7XZt34T0D;_ylu=X3oDMTJqczZmb3NuBGFzc2V0A2FwLzIwMTAxMDE5L3VzX29iaXRfdG9tX2Jvc2xleQRjcG9zAzIEcG9zAzYEc2VjA3luX3RvcF9zdG9yeQRzbGsDaGFwcHlkYXlzZGFk)

has passed away

In 1989, I orchestrated the California Music Theatre production of STRIKE UP THE BAND, directed by an idiot, and starring Mr Bosley, and Donny Most, both of HAPPY DAYS. Mr Most was friendly and a delight, Mr Bosley was about as friendly as a poisonous toad. He was aloof, unpleasant, and spent most of the time on the phone, probably bitching at his agent to get him out of the production. The director was a complete horror.

Today's session went really well, with wonderful performers. Everyone's happy.

Woo and hoo!  For my at-home day I'm wearing a pair of jeans that I haven't been able to get into for I can't remember how long.  So there is some benefit to this diet and exercise routine!
I want the no-exercise, no-diet routine to work. Just haven't figured out how.

Acupuncture. Oh, you want the no-exercise, no-diet, no-needles way?

Seriously, acupuncture does help with weight loss.
Being scared of the needles is enough to get me to exercise. No, DR Ginny, I will try not to follow your course of action.

I am so sorry I missed this production. Here's a NT TIMES videoclip of my friend Steven LaBrie as the Miller in the children's opera "Puss In Boots," which was directed by Moises Kaufman, who created THE LARAMIE PROJECT.

No, it's opening in California if I recall correctly. They don't need to bring it to Broadway. It probably would not be treated well by the critics AND it played at Goodspeed in Connecticut, again if I recall correctly.

In other news:  do any of you domestic types have any ideas about how to clean/polish a marble tile floor?  The foyer of our new house is marble, and it's gotten pretty badly scuffed over the past few months.  Betsy is uptight about how to clean and polish it.

DR JMK - What DR Jeanne said. It all depends if the marble is polished of not.  -Or if it happens to need re-polishing.

As for the Topic of the Day...

The only two that come to mind right now are:

"The Red Balloon"
"Bambi Meets Godzilla" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tAVYYe87b9w)

I'm sure there are others which will pop back into my brain a little later.

Happy Days isn't going anywhere except these regional places.  I worked with Bosley twice on Happy Days and in those days, at least, he was very nice, warm, and kind-hearted.  He always took the time to say hi to me if we saw each other on the Paramount lot.

We made the mistake of putting in a marble counter in our bathroom.  JMK can you find out where it came from and call the store, at least find out when it was last cleaned and polished.

Oy. I was out for dinner at a birthday. We take a group picture. And then in the bathroom before I leave I notice a big thing of sauce on my face! OMG! I am horrified. I can't believe that nobody noticed. It must have been on my face for close to an hour.

I wonder if red eye remover will work on a face. And they wanted to blow up the picture. :(

The even sadder part is that I got all dressed up and even did my hair fancy.

Jennifer, what you need is a program like Photo Shop that as a cloning option.  Using that, it would be easy to remove the spot.

that sounds great. Our symphony here has decided not to do the Messiah in the usual venue. Instead, it is touring to three churches this year to perform the piece. Sounds like a nice plan.

Hi All.  Picked up a really mad Little Ricky at about 5:00.  they had one of those Elizabethan Collars on him.  (I always called them cones) anyway, they told me to leave it on until he was totally dry.  I took it off when we came home and watched him until he was dry.  He didn't lick at all.  I sat with him for awhile and after DWS will go back up.  He was mad and glad at the same time.
