Well, you've read the notes, the notes were forced and myself, and now it is time for you to post until the forced cows come home.

And the word of the day is: ONOMANCY!

good morning all. Why am I up so early?

TOD
Surprisingly I've not seen a lot of Kirk Douglas films over the years.
His later 80's and onwards were not very good with the exception of a tv version of Inherit the Wind.
But to play it safe:
Spartacus
20,000 Leagues Under The Sea
two others stick in my mind, but only saw them once
a tv musical adaptation of Dr, Jeklyn & Mr. Hyde. Score I think was Lionel Bart
The list of Adrian Messinger a film with a gimmick that I am not sure will hold up to a second viewing
-
Morning all.
That is all.
-
$$$ vibes to DR SAM.
-
Today is a work day. Oh well.
-
Good morning, all! I think I had a dream in which DR Ginny and I were partners in a game show; my only real memory of it is that I was doing somethng matching up CD cases and covers. It's quite vague at this point.
This morning, another McGlinnventory day, followed by edits with Mr Skip Kennon at Toyland. On my way home I need to stop at a pharmacy for a new toothbrush and some laundry and household cleaning products. I'm pretty much sruck home tomorrow waiting for Fed Ex to pick up these eight cartons going to Ohio. Who knows? By tomorrow I may have nine. Or ten!
TOD:
20,000 LEAGUES UNDER THE SEA, which led to my seeing
ULYSSES, which led to my reading Homer and to my college B.A. degree in Classics and Latin

Good morning. It's sunny here today.

I agree that PATHS OF GLORY is a great film, possibly Kubrick's best.
On the other hand, because of the depressing subject matter and the ending, I find it a difficult film to watch. I've been avoiding watching it again it for years.

I'm up, and showering so I can be ready to leave for my lunch at eleven-thirty.

Thursday morning greetings! Richard, Rob, and I are all at home today with nothing on anyone's calendar. I'm going to putter all day.
-
We have a situation with postage today, something I've been trying to tell the helper needed to be dealt with long before the CDs arrived, but she waited until the last minute and now we have a situation. She's been so great I'm not going to make a deal out of it other than to say it can't happen this way again - I know what I'm doing in regards of being proactive and it must get done the way I say - we certainly could have avoided this problem - everything will still get shipped today - it's just going to take longer - one of the things we've been doing is switching everything to the Internet so the Pitney-Bowes machine can go away and it all has to do with that.

Getting ready to listen to Stephen Sondheim on Fresh Air. Then at 4pm I'll watch the Sound of Music reunion on Oprah and at 10 pm the Broadway episode of The Apprentice. In between, a 30-minute walk around the basement - too windy outside!

Just had two bad Ebay experiences yesterday....two vintage Bollywood movie posters arrived badly damaged because the seller used a plastic tube, rather then the hard cardboard tube he normally uses, and the tube shattered during transit
..and a Covina Pottery planter I sold on Ebay, and packaged very well (I thought) and even marked as fragile, arrived at it's new owner's home in several pieces.
Actually, I guess this would be two bad USPS experiences...what in tarnation do these people do with packages in transit, anyway!
In all my years of Ebaying I have not had these things occur before. >:(

The USPS is s**t.
In the past month or so, I've had 3 letters (two of them containing checks), ripped up by their lousy machinery.
Luckily, the checks eventually showed up...after I had stopped payment on them.
I was so glad that they didn't get their two-cent raise for next year.
They don't deserve it.
-
Good Morning! Good Afternoon!
I'm up, I'm up... And Oy!

OMG!
I'm currently watching the daytime version of "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?" - And I know the first contestant! Coolio!

In other news...
Well...
-
I know who's (supposed to be) playing "Ben". :)
-
Congrats again to DR FJL on his Fred Ebb Award nomination! It really is truly an honor to be nominated.
-
DR vixmom - Congrats on the sale of the parsonage, and thanks for the continuing updates on your mother's progress. :)
-
DR Dan (the Man) - If you'd like, I could always just drop by Mr. Sondheim's brownstone with your copy in hand... ;)

Of all the "upcoming" Closing Announcements, this one actually breaks my heart a little:
In the Heights to Close on Broadway in January; Miranda to Return to Cast (http://www.playbill.com/news/article/144382-In-the-Heights-to-Close-on-Broadway-in-January-Miranda-to-Return-to-Cast)

Hi everyone. I'm here in the midst of stage management issues and a TD who is slowly losing credibility with me. First night on the set last night and he wasn't there and our SM is useless. We open in a week.
Need I say more?

I, too, am having problems with the USPS these days. Still waiting after five weeks for a check that I really could use right now.

DR Jose, are you on a "drop by anytime" basis with Mr. Sondheim? I wouldn't want him to wind up turning on the sprinklers on you...

Page 2? are you totally serious? Is this page being run by the US Postal Service and the posts are in the mail????

I use the USPS a lot, but we only use express mail for immigration applications etc because it's the only way to be sure it gets there. I've had priority get lost, but so far, no express mail

Ok, I want to go home, but page 2 won't do

I heard from the actor playing Ben Stone in FOLLIES at the Kennedy Center this morning. He's very excited about doing the show. I can't type his name till I know he's signed his contract; I don't want to jinx it.

As Rise Stevens asks in her recording of Lady In The Dark, where is everybody?

God, what a dreary lot.

I'm off to the corner drug store; I need some sewing notions and I've a notion I'll find what I need there.

The frenzy is over. TTFN.

Nope, not using paypal shipping.

This has been a very hectic day, but had a nice lunch with Kelly Sullivan - the company was nice, the food was - well, vegan, close to macrobiotic (no gluten, no dairy, no nothing) and I will have a LOT more to say about it in the notes.
-
Aside from that, may I just exclaim - page three???
-
Get me off this damn page.
-
Got the Sondheim book today. I'm only a little ways in but I do have to laugh that once when I asked Steve to write some liner notes he begged off saying he didn't write prose. Well, he does write prose in this book and a lot of it.

As Rise Stevens asks in her recording of Lady In The Dark, where is everybody?
Well, as of a couple of hours ago, my former supervisor is no longer my supervisor. He left at lunch time for an eye appointment and won't come back today. He has use-it-or-lose-it time and will start his new job (for the most part...he still has to clean out his former [my new] office) on Monday.
I've started ordering stuff with the library's actual credit card! I've never done that at work before...and no, I can't buy myself anything. ;)

DR George, do we need to start looking for cake recipes containing a file?

I am very sad. Yesterday I bought another milkweed plant because the four monarch caterpillars ate the one they were on. Today they dropped off dead. I am afraid that the nursery or grower sprayed a pesticide on the plants.

Welcome to my world of gardening!
-
They were fat and healthy and really chomped on the leaves when I put them on it. Now they are lying there like, well, like dead caterpillars.
In the good news department, I released my butterfly that emerged yesterday. I tagged it and set it free at the river. I hope he makes it to the overwintering spot in either Mexico or the coast of California!

I wonder how many other plants they will sell that are going to kill the caterpillars. They refunded my money, but they didn't pull the plants.

Sorry about the caterpillars, DR Laura. I've been meaning to mention that my cardiac rehab gym has an infestation of ladybugs and I've enjoyed watching them in the windows while walking on the treadmill. My nurse Gail told me yesterday that they were going to exterminate them last night and I'll be sad not to see them tomorrow.

Oh Ginny,, they aren't really lady bugs, they are a beetle that stinks really bad when you squish it. The government imported them from Japan or somewhere to eat aphids in soybean fields. The problem is they took over the world. They get into houses and overwinter inside the walls. I'm allergic to them. It's awful
-
Thank you all. I know it must seem silly to some people. But then, I don't have a tv, so I amuse myself with bugs.
I don't think it is silly, at all. I think it is tragic. I hope you call the company headquarters and file a complaint. Or contact the Consumer Advocate at your local TV station.
-
Well, maybe they are lady bugs, if it's the state bug
-
DR Laura, so sorry about the caterpillars. There's something special about a monarch caterpill er, is there anywhere there milkweed grows wild?

And speaking of Consumer Advocates, has anyone heard from Danise?

I have slowly been letting Ricky out of the room. Tonight I let him come downstairs, He ran to the landing, turned the corner took the stairs about 4 at a time and proceeded to slide down the last few and plop! on the floor. He was SOOO excited. He sniffed and played. I don't think he's ever been on hardwood floors, he had no idea how to stop or control himself. It was pretty funny....well not to Boo, she was irate. I let her do the howling and hissing and Ricky really didn't back down. I didn't really interfere, until it was just getting a little too nasty, then I put him back in his room. He was out for about 30 minutes. It was a good start and I think it will get better
-
Oh, and they officially announced that we will have another furlough day in November.
Swell!
-
I'm taking a little bit of a chance with the ringworm, but adult cats don't usually get it and he's been treated for 3 weeks. He's still contagious, but not as contagious as before. The vet said it's a chance, but she didn't say don't do it, she said it was up to me.
-
And speaking of Consumer Advocates, has anyone heard from Danise?
She pokes me on Facebook and I poke back, but haven't heard anything more than that.
-
Thank you all. I know it must seem silly to some people. But then, I don't have a tv, so I amuse myself with bugs.
It is not silly at all. How they died is very upsetting.

Has everyone seen the clip from Chaplin's 1928 THE CIRCUS that appears to show a woman talking on a cell phone?
Only the photo. I really couldn't see much.

As of last month she still hadn't seen any money. :(

Bummer!!!!!
-
LOL, he's a kick. I need to charge my camera so I can get him playing with one of his toys, he acts like it's caught on his tooth and he's trying to get it off, he'll struggle, then finally open his mouth and out it drops.
-
I have two different kinds of milkweed growing in my yard that the monarchs have laid eggs on. My scientist friend says not to change the milkweed they grew up on. Luckily, only those four were on that particular kind. (There were more, but I think they were able to crawl away to form chrysalises before I bought the new plant). I still have about four or five caterpillars on the other kind of milkweed. And two formed chrysalises this morning, so they are safe.
-
I'm going to let him out a lot this weekend when I'm here all day and can monitor the situation. He wasn't pleased to go back in the room, but I sat with him a little bit and he was ok. I'll go back up there soon.
-
I have four different kinds of milkweed growing in my yard, but they have only laid eggs on two kinds that I can find.
-
Are there more eggs? I hope so
-
I don't know. I saw a female laying eggs nine days ago. They should have hatched if they are going to, but they'd be too small to see for a few more days. It is getting late for egg laying here.
-
At least we're finally on page 5
-
Oh I went back and read your earlier post ---so there's still the possibility of 6 or 7 more butterflies? That's great! At least the bad milkweed didn't get them all
-
Wow, you saw a female laying eggs, that's pretty cool
-
Yes, very cool! I hope you have more eggs.
-
Edi I remember you mentioning going through the full body scanner at the airport. Has anyone else gone through it? I think I almost did until I couldn't lift my arm over my head as requested.
-
Has everyone seen the clip from Chaplin's 1928 THE CIRCUS that appears to show a woman talking on a cell phone?
I saw the clip. I really couldn't tell what was in the woman's hand...if anything really was there or if she was just holding her hand next to her head.
-
Tonight my parents confirmed that weather permitting, they are coming to Sioux City for Thanksgiving. I'm really glad. They're just coming for the day and want to eat out at noon. I'll do a little research and find a good spot. It will be fun and a lot easier for me than traveling. I can work on the new room. I'm very confident the cats will be together by then

Well, I don't know what it is, but I don't really think she's a time traveler. Maybe she's trying to shield her face from the camera. It isn't as if they were small in those days

Today was in the 40s tomorrow the 60s. so yes, it's probably going to warm up there, :)
-
Ricky is finally calmed down. He was soooo excited running around the house. When I put him back in the room I noticed his arm was VERY red. I'm not supposed to wash it during the week, but I put a little of the medicated shampoo on a rag and washed it then rinsed it with the other end of the rag. It's already a lot less red. I know it was hurting him. He's laying on me purring now

I took warm clothes to Chicago and never needed them.:D It poured here the entire time I was gone and the sun came out the day I returned. Sadly, the rain & cold returned today.

We never completely swap out seasonal clothes, because it can be so variable here. We've had very warm Thanksgivings and Christmases and we've also had October snowstorms. I just wanted to get the light-colored and summery florals put away, so I did it all at once.

He's laying on me purring now
Awww, poor Ricky. He seems like a great cat!!!
He's a fabulous cat. The girls will like him, he's just a little too forward right now. He has no fear and no boundaries because he's a kitten, they aren't used to the way he literally goes nose to nose with them. They'll get used to it

one more day before the weekend and I will not have to work
one day more
-
I look to have a vacation day for Edi's New York premiere - now of course o I have forgotten all the details except the date
-
I am so sorry about your caterpillars Laura
-
Thanks for the vibes, George. Ricky is getting better, really he is, but it's going to take time for him to get all the way over this.
-
I remember when I took home a kitten with ringworm it took awhile to clear up, plus it returned once or twice. He never had it again as an adult cat.
-
Adult cats usually don't get it. That's why I'm willing to take a chance
-
Time for me to leave. Have a good rest of the evening, all!
Until later!
-
You too, George!
-
Watching Grey's Anatomy
-
I still haven't watched the movie of The Girl Who Kicked a Hornet's Nest. I'm thinking maybe this weekend.
-
I'm waiting for the DVD at which time we will first watch THE GIRL WHO PLAYED WITH FIRE.

Yeah, I bought the second two on eBay. Not the best thing to do, but I'm glad I did
-
Watching The APPRENTICE - they are doing a backer's audition for a musical
-
Had I not read the books I would be more anxious to watch the movies.
-
I'm spacing it out between watching the movies, because I want it to last longer
-
Watching The APPRENTICE - they are doing a backer's audition for a musical
I'm watching, too, and now know why I don't watch this series regularly.
-
I'd rather see the Broadway performers more and the arguing less.
-
I, too, am having problems with the USPS these days. Still waiting after five weeks for a check that I really could use right now.
~~~Check Arrival Vibes for DR John G.!!~~~
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Yes! And vibes for my check arrival as well! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
ditto for you, DR Elmore.

I quit watching and took some work to read upstairs and sat with Ricky.
-
The new Blu-ray of Mr. Magoo's Christmas Carol looks exceptional. You heard it here first. :)
Is it the full cartoon? I know a couple have been edited. And I likes my razzleberry pudding without a spoon of it missing.
-
Oh, and they officially announced that we will have another furlough day in November.
Swell!
Just in time for the holidays! Wow! That's so, well, nasty.

NY Times is reporting that Roger Rees will take over Nathan Lane's ADDAMS FAMILY role as Gomez (in March). Bebe Neuwirth will stay on as Morticia.
http://artsbeat.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/10/28/roger-rees-to-replace-lane-in-the-addams-family/
That's if the show makes it through the winter. From what I've read the show does not sell out
And it will sell less with Rees, a funny guy, but not Gomez.
-
Where's the clip?
HERE (http://www.comcast.net/video/time-traveler-caught-on-film/1627151089).
Perhaps the earliest ghetto blaster? Or someone who saw a movie camera and didn't want their picture taken.

I have often said that Portland, OR and Vancouver, WA are matchy-matchy, and now we know for sure. Some of you will understand. :)
-
It's a friggin' crazy lady talking to her hand. ;)
-
Welcome, DR Vincent.
-
Vibes for Little Ricky.

Night, all.

Goodnight, DR John G.

DR Michael S - The show may not be selling out, but it's been selling very well ever since it opened. The New York Times even did a piece on just how well it had been selling even after the less than favorable reviews, "Critics May Rant, but ‘Addams Family’ Rakes It In" (http://www.nytimes.com/2010/04/14/theater/14addams.html).
Of course, January and February are traditionally lean months for Broadway, but with Nathan Lane still in there, the show should still sell comparably well. -And it will undoubtedly benefit from the closing of the other shows in January. Roger Rees may not be as big a draw, but he'll be coming in right at the beginning of the Spring tourist season, and I'm pretty sure that many a high school theatre group will be booked into the Lunt-Fontanne. *And I'm pretty sure that their marketing company will somehow play up the "Cheers" ties that both Bebe and Roger have.

It's a friggin' crazy lady talking to her hand. ;)
...Or maybe she was just trying to keep her hat on.
...Or maybe she was simply camera shy.
...Or maybe it was a man dressed as a woman.
...Or maybe her jaw hurt.
...Or maybe people are just reading too much into it.
;)

What he said
-
Ok, time to sleep....night all
-
I think she had an earache and was trying to keep her ear warm.
-
Sign of the season: Today I put all my summer t-shirts into the under-the-bed storage and got out my sweaters and turtlenecks. That'll probably make it warm up...
Today was in the 40s tomorrow the 60s. so yes, it's probably going to warm up there, :)
Well, we were back in the 70's today here in NYC. -Although, it's cooled down nicely since this afternoon.
-
DR Laura - Sorry to hear about the tainted milkweed. At least you seem to have enough of the "good stuff" in your yard.
-
DR Dan (the Man) - If you'd like, I could always just drop by Mr. Sondheim's brownstone with your copy in hand... ;)
You know where he lives?
Umm... Yes. But I thought everyone knew where he lived. ::)
-
And since I probably should have been in bed an hour ago...
Goodnight.
-
Had a good work session with The Singer - made some choices and made some discards. Then we went to Mo's where I had a blessed bacon cheeseburger, which was just the antidote I needed to counteract that awful healthy stuff I ate earlier. It was probably more than I should have eaten, but it was worth it.
