Yesterday, I got up, watched some TV, fed my cat, took a shower, got dressed and went over to my sister's house.  The whole family came over and not one Trick-or-Treater showed up.  None.  Oh, well.  We didn't have much candy to hand out, because my sister said that hardly anyone comes down her street...it's a dead end with no lights.

DR elmore - Aleve usually takes a bit of time before it takes effect. -Which I guess could be part of the reason that they suggest you start off with two pills as the initial dose. I also remember when I was dealing with sciatica, that one pill of the prescription strength naproxen sodium was equal to three of the OTC stuff.

The girls are Ricky are remarkably well behaved this morning.  Have no idea who slept where last night, but I was able to sleep.  I'm really curious to see how all three will react to Ricky getting a treatment today.  He's going to be shut in his room tonight because he will be reeking of sulfur and I don't want the whole house to smell that way.   It will be interesting.  I'm curious how long it will take me to give in and let him out, lol.

Halloween traffic in my neighborhood got off to a very slow start yesterday.  I had no Trick or Treaters until about 3:00.  It picked up between 4:00 and 5:00, but in the end I had only 36 kids.  Now what am I going to do with four unopened bags of Milky-Ways and one each of Twix and Kit-Kats?

Good morning, all! I had nightmares about Ohio Light Opera in rehearsal for JUBILEE most of the night, but I did sleep for around 10 hours. Moving about is an ordeal, because the trick knee doesn't want to support me and I feel at moments I could fall on my face. I did cancel all of my appointments - Cole Porter Trust at noon and Frank Loesser office at 1:30 to stay in. Tomorrow I've got a doctor's appointment at 3:30, so I may stay in tomorrow until then. I don't want to be stuck on a subway platform or out on the street and unable to navigate.

Today I'm staying inside: I'm listening to a BBC Radio program of Frank Loesser that was conducted last year by my friend Larry Blank and I've got my Sondheim book and my vampire novel LET ME IN to keep me company along with the tv. I don't like being an invalid, though; it gets old fast.

TOD: I played this game a lot between 1979 and 1982, when I had lots of theatre career options and one of them was becoming a casting agent. When John McGlinn, who was really good at casting, was recording for EMI, we played the game daily. Now I only cast my own projects.

Harking back to yesterday's post, I believe that Jane Connell played Miss Hannigan during Annie's initial run at the Shubert in Los Angeles.  And the late Keene Curtis played Daddy Warbucks.  I have to add that Mr. Curtis one of the kindest and most gracious persons I have ever met.  But that's a another story for another day.

And of course when saying divoon - one must also add the patented Jayne Mansfield squeal.....

I love WILL SUCCESS SPOIL ROCK HUNTER? - although Mr Tony Randall isn't a favorite.....

My favorite dialogue exchange - which I remember from the time I saw the movie on Frances Farmer Presents back in 1963....

Tony: We'll form Rita Marlowe productions......

Jayne:  And what will I do?

Tony:  Well, I will be the president, treasurer, and secretary.  But you will be the titular head of the company.

Jayne: *Patented squeal*

I grew up in Camden and we were bred as hardcore Trick or Treaters.  The rule was--leave no stone unturned!  We went to every house, decorated or not, lights on or not.  If you got them to at least open the door, you were bound to get something out of the deal.

The thing that's beginning to really bother me about these political phone calls is some of these calls come in on Caller ID as private. We have some friends who come in as private also and we generally answer the phone but we have been tricked a few times. I think it's scummy politics at its worst, no matter which side you are on, to send those calls out Private and I have told them as such saying I don't vote for politicians who do this sleazy thing and don't call here again. They know that if it comes through ID with a name or organization attached that I won't pick up so they lie to get through. Scumbags!!! I can't wait for November 3rd.

I'm thinking of making this recipe for Red Velvet cupcakes. http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/paula-deen/red-velvet-cupcakes-with-cream-cheese-frosting-recipe/index.html

I don't use red food coloring anymore and my Nestle's cocoa is ages old.  Might another brand such as Ghiradelli taste better?

Any recipe suggestions are welcome, however please keep in mind I'm not a fan of coconut.

I don't understand why you get up at 6 to make the announcement; why not post it after midnight when you close down today's posts? It's 3 am on the East Coast.

Looking again at the recipe it sure has a lot of red food coloring and very little cocoa.  I think I could even use my Ghiradelli sweet ground chocolate & cocoa I use for hot chocolate, or the old cocoa.  One teaspoon doesn't make it work buying something I won't use again for a long time.  Is red food coloring still bad for you?

I am overjoyed, yes overjoyed.  For a couple of years now I have struggled with the 1080i screencaps I have to get for my opera and classical music reviews.  The interlacing artifacts drive me crazy (a short, scenic drive).  Well lo and behold I stumbled across someone on the internets talking about Photoshop's "deinterlacing" tool, and I knew I had a cheapo Photoshop knockoff on this computer and I checked, and lo and behold (and also behold and lo), it has a deinterlacing tool which works like gangbusters.  Happy, happy, happy.

Television works with interlaced images and when you try to isolate individual frames for screengrabs, you more often than not get "combing" artifacts, which makes lines and edges look very rough.  What is happening is that you're getting bits and pieces of two "interlaced" moments of the picture.

We are home from the vet....the vet actually did the dip this time instead of the vet tech and Ricky doesn't smell as bad. I took him to his room and he ate almost an entire little can of food. Then he proceeded to play a game of chase with Callie.

The vet took a culture and will test it this week. We have to do another dip next Monday, then if we get negative cultures we're done! Phew!

DR Jane - Red Velvet Cake is essentially a "light" chocolate cake that has a lot of red food coloring in it to make it red.  Essentially, it's all about the cream cheese frosting.

As for using your "old cocoa", well... Part of the reason the cocoa is included in the recipe is to help with the leavening - chemical reactions and all that.  So, if you use "old cocoa" or "hot cocoa mix", it might not turn out.  Best to "splurge" on a new can of cocoa powder.

Otherwise, just make your favorite chocolate cake recipe and frost it with cream cheese frosting (sans walnuts).

*And red food coloring is safe to use. -But if you're at all concerned, there are some "natural" red food colorings out there that are derived from beets.

Actually, after looking at that recipe, I'm sort of surprised it doesn't call for more red food coloring. I've seen some "classic" red velvet cake recipes that call for bottles(!) of red food coloring.
