Well, you've read the notes, the notes were what they were, and now it is time for you to post until the sad cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: VAGRARY!
-
Topic of the Day:
Be A Santa (duet with Guy Haines)
Disneyland (of course)
From This Day On (from "Lerner, Loewe, Lane & Friends")
Part Of Your World
-
Morning all.
-
How could I forget Amy, Fred and Deb? Fred wasn't at the movie but he was at dinner.
I was tired and now I'm up on Saturday morning (6:45am).
Laundry when the facility opens and then whatever the day brings.
-
I do not own any Michelle Nicastro cds but I just went to ebay and rectified that situation -I found all 4 of the BK cds on ebay and snatched them up
-
Laundry for me too
I also have a 10 AM appoinment for a flu shot
-
Travel VIBES for Edi, Ruth & Naz
-
I had such a good time last night
I am just sorry I was on the end of the table from FJL and didn't get to chat with him as much as I would have liked
-
It was wonderful to see Julie again - I hope that she wll have time to stop byand tell us all what she has been up to - she has been busy busy busy!
-
and I discovered last night that Anthony has another talent of whic I was unaware creating minature houses - Ido hope Ben will share some photos with us
Last night he brought them out just as Elmore and I were leaving and I only had an opprtunity for a quick glance
I love minature houses and always wanted to make one of my own but time money and space have always been a problem - I was very impressed by what I did see and am axious to see more!
-
So sorry to hear about Michelle Castro.
Like DR VIXMOM, I have been Ebaying and purchased a copy of TOONFUL.
-
Glad to hear the news about the HHW JEWS & BASEBALL mini meet.....hopefully pictures will be forthcoming.
Glad Zach's camp was homely, DR JMK.
-
Of course, I am working today....allergies and all.
They have returned with a vengeance.
Was last DR MATTHEW'S opening night with SB?
-
Off to work....oh well.
-
TOD
So hard to answer
but From This Day On
is a favorite
-
Unfortunately, I was not familiar with Michelle Nicastro or her work.
My sincere condolences to all of you who knew her.
-
Laundry is in the dryer and I will return to the facility in a while to fold the hot items.
Deb, Anthony said he will send the miniature pictures to you via e-mail. There are so many that it would flood the server here

The photos are fantastic! Mom mom was already a fan before the met Ant, but now she adores him!
-
Ben, please tell Anthony that my mom apologizes for calling him Ben all night. I showed her everyone's picture and we had moemory checks for everyone's name. Ant was easy because he makes miniatures, and Ben was "Gentle Ben" because of your soft, melodious voice. But at some point she decided that Anythong was so gentle that he must be "Ben"! She loved meeting everyone!!
-
Good morning, all! I slept well, with a few moments of noise from the Oaf Above me around 1 am. I'm not really sure whats on today's agenda; I've always got something to work on between the two Herbert projects.
Before I forget:
Turn back your clocks tonight!
I may have a meeting about the Appalachian Christmas show today, so I have to do some work this morning on youtube and in the books I've collected.
BK, wonderful piece about Michelle this morning!

Saturday morning greetings! It's a stay-at-home day for me - Michigan kicks off at noon.
I'm loving the reports from last night and have enjoyed the pictures via Facebook - thanks DR Edi!
-
Off to the Statue of Liberty! I posted a few photos to FB but have to get back to my real computer to get the HHW photobucket password to post here, plus need more screen real estate than I have on my phone to do that, so I'll put them up to night after we get back!
-
Amy, we had a great time last night and Ant loved meeting your mom and Naz and he said it was no problem with the name. He loves showing off his pictures and your mom was a willing participant.
Enjoy the SOL and EI (Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island)

TOD:
Michelle's Kiss the Girl, At the Codfish Ball and Aurora always make me smile.
On the Day I Fall in Love is superb.
Beyond My Wildest Dreams makes me want to get up and dance.
-
I saw Jill Clayburgh at my very first Broadway show "on Broadway," PIPPIN. Hard to believe she's gone.
-
Y'know, DR JMK, now that you mention it, I think I also saw Jill Clayburgh in PIPPIN on Broadway - summer of 1974? Hmm, but now that I look at ibdb.com, I think it may have been Betty Buckley...
-
bk - That was such a beautiful tribute to a truly beautiful woman. R.I.P. Michelle Nicastro.
-
As for the Topic of the Day...
I would include "Disneyland" too.
Although, I would also have to include "Aurora" from the "Jeepers Creepers" album since I had done the vocal arrangement for that one. The way that whole "gig" came together via numerous phone calls, emails and Express Mail... Fun! Truly Fun!
-
bk - I'm not sure you were looking for them, but there are also some wonderful mentions of Michelle coming up on various Barry Manilow fan sites and Twitter due to her involvement with the "Swan Princess" movies.
-

I really liked her work.

Oh, and, yes...
Good Morning!
I'm up, I'm up... And it's Saturday morning.

and I discovered last night that Anthony has another talent of whic I was unaware creating minature houses - Ido hope Ben will share some photos with us

I've seen the wonderful photos up close, you however are close enough you might one day have the privilege to see them in person. It has been awhile and I would be happy if DR Ben posted a few, or all, of the photos.
-
And it truly is very sad to read about the passing of Jill Clayburgh and Shirley Verrett too.
-
I'm glad I got to stop by The Quad last night to meet up with DRs edisaurus, vixmom, Julie, Ben and his ever-lovin' Ant, as well as Mamasaurus and Naz. Alas, since "Intermezzo" did not get out until 11:00pm - almost on the dot too! - I was not able to make it back down to the Good Stuff Diner for Round One or Two of the post-"J&B" get-together. But at least there's Facebook. ;)
-
I'm up, I'm up. Looks like another summer day outside.
-
OH!!!
Well... I thought I smelled vomit... And... Well... I guess someone upstairs didn't make it to the bathroom last night "in time"... Ugh... :-\
-
She of the Evil Eye is here so I'll vamoose shortly. Forgot to mention turning the clocks back.
-
bk - If there's any way that She of the Evil Eye could make it over to my apartment too, that would be most appreciated. I need a clean-up in Bedroom 3.
-
In any case...
The final dress rehearsal for Cosě fan tutte at The Met yesterday was fun. They had replaced the previously announced "Don Alfonso" at the last second, and so the final dress was his first time on stage. -And, frankly, you would not have know it. He did a very good job. It's a great cast - both aurally and visually ;) pleasing - and once the conductor - who is making his house debut - gets more used to just how the house "works" in regards to sound and coordination, it really should be a quite wonderful production.
-
I am very sorry to hear about Michelle, and I am especially sad for her family.
-
Intermezzo at City Opera last night was fun too. Boy is there a lot of "chatter" in that opera! And most of it done by the lead character, "Christine"! Mary Dunleavy was quite good, and she showed no sign of vocal fatigue or tiring over the course of the three hours. -And, as many of the reviews mentioned, her English diction was truly impeccable - no surtitles needed! -Alas, the strings and brass sections in the orchestra did end up sounding a bit "fatigued" by the middle of the second act.
*And, yes, DR elmore - What a very strange, almost "high school" looking set. Lots of white walls and flats. However, maybe that was on purpose in order to show all the money they spent on the period furniture and costumes - and the toboggan run(!). Or not. ;)
-
Laundry is in the dryer and I will return to the facility in a while to fold the hot items.
Deb, Anthony said he will send the miniature pictures to you via e-mail. There are so many that it would flood the server here
YAY@!!! I will golook for them!

And now a couple of words from the First Lady-Elect of New York State, Sandra "Semi-Homemade" Lee (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RLMNZ6xY6YY).

So sad to hear about the loss of Michelle Nicastro bk, your notes today brought tears to my eyes.
TOD - I really love her arrangement of "Belle" from "Beauty and the Beast", but also "Disneyland" and probably everything else.
Sunset Blvd opens tonight, and I'm really excited. The show has come together and looks great. I'm very proud.

Very sad news about Jill Clayburgh. I was trying to think of what I had seen her in recently. I looked it up. It was Dirty Sexy Money. She was so good in it.
-
I'm almost positive the entire OBC of PIPPIN was still there when I saw it in 1973. It might have been after Irene Ryan's death, but I don't think so. I know for sure everyone else was the original.
-
In my recent review of the Time-Life Rock Hall of Fame Concerts (it's amazing, get it), I talk about subscribing to various Time-Life series through the years and anticipating all those volumes coming every 4-6 weeks. I closed my review by asking if I could expect another volume in 4-6 weeks. Some idiot (technical term) on the reader thread about the review is confused as to why another volume would be coming in 4-6 weeks, wondering if there are still unreleased performances. Oy.

Today, I'm going to work for a couple of hours to start to clean and organize some things. Later this evening, I'm ushering for an old west interpretation of The Taming of the Shrew (http://www.harlequinproductions.org/seasonpages/10/taming.html). I've been hearing great things about it and wanted to see any production of the show, since I was in it three and a half years ago.
During that production, my friends Tim and Ingrid met (and that's when I met them, too), and they just got married last week. :D

When I opened up Bruce’s notes just after midnight and saw the title, my heart sank. “Dear, sweet Michelle” — as her friends called her on Facebook — was gone. Bruce’s tribute was beautiful, and by the time I reached the end of the first page I was crying. Crying for someone I had never met, never talked to. Crying because a priceless voice had been silenced in such a cruel, painful fashion.
I first heard Michelle sing Feb. 10, 1995, at the Wilshire Theatre in Beverly Hills. It was the 11th annual Southland Theatre Artists Goodwill Event (S.T.A.G.E.) and Michelle was part of a star-studded lineup paying tribute to the music of Harold Arlen. Dressed in a shimmering sequined gown, she sang an incandescent “Get Happy” that radiated life-affirming joy. It was the second song of the first act, and it was a showstopper. The applause was thunderous and, in just under four minutes, she had made me a fan for life.
“Reel Imagination” was the first Michelle album I bought and, I believe, the first Bruce-produced CD I bought. Picked it up at an indie stored called Zia Records in Tucson, Ariz. If memory serves, it sat on my CD case for a long time before I was in the mood to play it. When I did, I was blown away ... just as I had been that first night at the Wilshire. What a voice. Pure, positive, powerful. And so evocative. Her brassy vocals conveyed a wide-eyed joy that’s impossible to resist. She could, quite simply, sing a smile.
Favorites? How do you choose? “Reel Imagination,” and the two “Toonful” CDs, are brimming with wonderful performances, peerless production and delicious arrangements. “In My Own Little Corner/Impossible” and “The Dressing Song” are standouts on “Reel Imagination”; “The Second Star to the Right” on “Toonful” is a lush gem; and “Zippity Boppity Boo,” “Everybody Wants to Be a Cat” and “Under the Sea” on “Toonful, Too” are impossible to resist.
When Bruce, announced the Kritzerland at the Gardenia series, I had so hoped that Michelle could make an appearance. Or, even better, have performed an entire evening herself. It wasn’t to be. How glad I am that I got to see and hear her one final time at Bruce’s “Two’s Company” benefit at the Alex Theatre in Glendale, Calif., on Nov. 5, 2007. She sang “Part of Your World” from “The Little Mermaid” and was as radiant as ever.
How richer we are that she was a part of this world.

Jose - Do i have the correct email address for you? (When i try to get the information about the email, it says something like not available.)
Fred - Hmmm.. That's weird. In any case... It's still "josespiano at aol dot com". I will say that AOL's spam filter has been working overtime lately, and even though I try to check my Spam Folder regularly, sometimes I don't get to any non-spam before AOL automatically deletes them. Strangely enough, it seems to "spam" emails coming from other AOL accounts even when they're already in my Address Book. -I guess AOL is the new Hotmail? ??? You can also try sending to "josespiano at gmail dot com" just to be safe.
-
And now, 'tis time for me to get ready to head out to run a few errands, and then I'm heading back to the
StateDavid H. Koch Theater tonight at Lincoln Center for City Opera's Lucky To Be Me: The Music Of Leonard Bernstein (http://www.nycopera.com/calendar/view.aspx?id=12549). It should be a great concert.
Laters...

Whew! Michigan 67, Illinois 65 in triple overtime!

Wow! I should have watched that game

Getting a little misty-eyed watching Sondheim's 80th Birthday Concert on BD, which I have to review. So many intense memories hearing all of these songs.

Back from our first walkthrough of our now rental property, which I haven't even driven by in 6 months. Looks surprisingly good, they're really keeping it up which of course makes us happy. They have agreed they will pay rent until we find a new tenant, so we're covered.
-
Sounds good JMK, hope you find another tenant who keeps the house up as well as the current tenants did
-
Can't decide if I want to go see Catfish or Conviction or stay home and watch The Girl Who Kicked a Hornet's Nest. Decisions

We actually think we may have, but timing is an issue. We won't know until next week when the current tenants will be out. We had our realtor over today to just look through and he thinks the master, which is currently carpeted, actually has hardwoods underneath. We were going to buy new carpets, but if there are hardwoods, we'll just have those refinished. Probably around the same cost I would think.
-
Maybe you'll be lucky and the hardwoods won't need refinishing. There are a lot of homes with really nice hardwood floors that have been protected by the carpet that has covered them for years.
-
I watched the 3rd Millenium movie today (here it is called La reine dans le palais des courants d'air).
I would say don't read this post if you are planning to read the 3rd book (THE GIRL WHO KICKED THE HORNET'S NEST).
I'm not sure how many people here have seen the 3rd movie (maybe only BK). I actually found it a lot less violent than the first 2 movies. I will be curious after DRs Jane and Cillaliz watch this movie (since they have both read the books) what they will think about the differences.
Don't read below if you don't want to know what was left out of the movie.

1. Erika did not leave her job. And thus they had to completely change the motivation for the threats against her.
I get that they have to leave things out of the movie. But I don't know that I like these changes. All that happened to Erika in the book was a key part of the book.
2. Mikael did not have a romantic relationship with the policewoman Monica.
3. Monica did not look at all like how i pictured her.
Even though she did not have a huge role, this actress was nothing like how she was described in the book!

Still don't know which movie I'm going to see. One is at 7:15 and one at 7:20, so, I think I'll just go and make my mind up when I get there
-

That is funny that you posted about the movie right as I was posting my thoughts. I'd be very interested to hear your take on it.
Surprisingly (and not sure if this is because I watched it in French) but I found this movie to be the most confusing of the 3. And if I hadn't read the book I am not sure that I would have followed who everyone was. I feel like they rushed over a lot about who everyone was.
-
Jennifer, I skipped what was left out of the movie. I'll let you know what I think when I see the movie. I decided to wait on that until the weather makes me want to stay home
-
TIme to get ready to head to the theater.

Okay.
-
As I've written, I really enjoyed all three of the Millennium films - they are all very different from each other, all were compelling and well done, and since I haven't read the books, they all worked perfectly for me.
-
Finished watching the new Blu and Ray of White Christmas, about which I will have much to say in the notes.
-
I am having dinner later with a friend, but since I was hungry, I had some bacon and eggs at one-thirty. I'll eat lightly tonight, and may do a jog in about thirty minutes.

I love this picture!
-
I've been at work and not really doing much of anything...certainly not getting things done the way that I thought that I would, but since I didn't need to make up much time, I'm not worried about what I didn't do. ;)
I'm now off to my parents' house for a quick visit, then off to the theater!
Have a good rest of the evening, all. :)

I should have kept reading. Cilla could be right about the floors, good luck with that.
-
Jennifer one of the reasons I don't mind waiting to watch the movies is it gives me more distance between the movie version and the books.
Possible spoiler!
I'm not surprised about the deal with Monica considering the first movie.
Poor Erika, she was finally interesting-lol.
-
I still remember watching WINDS OF WAR which sooo many people liked. I yelled through half of it complaining what they had done with half the characters and the poor casting.
-
Off to the theatre for the opening of SB. Family and DP will be in attendance. Still saddened by the loss of Michele Nicastro, will conduct "As If We Never Said Goodbye" in her memory this evening. I know she never recorded it, but it would have been very suited for her.

Break a leg tonight, DR Matthew!

Carpeted floors - you get to run around in your bare feet all day long, feeling quite comfy
Hardwood floors - cold, slippery, and you have to wear slippers or socks all the time.
-
The allergies are winning today, I am sorry to say....oh....ugh.
It has been a bad year for them. I hope tomorrow they lose.
-
I went to the theater tonight and told the ticket seller I was still deciding between CATFISH and CONVICTION. She told me 13 people had bought tickets for CONVICTION and no one....that's right NO ONE had bought tickets for CATFISH. SO, I went to CATFISH. I was literally the only person in the theater, which was pretty cool actually. I really liked the movie. Can't say much because I don't want to spoil it, but I liked it - it pulled me in and I didn't know where it was going. I tend to believe it's real, but if it isn't, that's ok too
-
Jane, I sat around with the cats and did almost nothing all day. I really needed to get out for awhile. I'm home, Rick is laying on my chest and shoulder, Boo is in her chair and Callie is on her mat. All is right in kittyland
-
Maybe I should have left my empty popcorn bag and cup so the cleaning people had something to pick up.
-
I'm glad I got to stop by The Quad last night to meet up with DRs edisaurus, vixmom, Julie, Ben and his ever-lovin' Ant, as well as Mamasaurus and Naz. Actually, we were still there! Tal and Kasia, two filmmakers formerly of Atlanta, went to the 8:20 show and then came back to the diner with us. They are both actors: Tal also works on the show DAMAGES, and Kasia speializes in playing monsters and aliens, as in the latest Star Trek movie.

Aren't there special forms aliens have to fill out? :)

Thank you for the travel vibes. Man oh Manischevitz I'm tired.
-
Hope Sunset Boulevard went well tonight.
-
The hike that was supposed to last all morning ended up taking up most all day.
-
Good Evening!
The Bernstein concert was quite good as expected. The first half consisted of the "Classical" Bernstein, while the second half consisted of the "Musical Theatre" Bernstein. Alas, I think a little bit of "mixing" would have been a good thing, since most of the first half consisted of some "heavy" material, and was basically "ballad" heavy. But still some wonderful music-making and singing.
The highlight of the second half for me was Cheyenne Jackson singing "Lucky To Be Me". I swear, just when I don't think he could sound any better - or look any better - he just manages to surprise me again! One of the other highlights was "We Are Women" from the London version of Candide performed by Vicki Clark and Kelli O'Hara. Oh, and the double finale of "Some Other Time" with Cheyenne Jackson, Christine Ebersole, Michael Cerveris and Donna Murphy, followed by the full company singing "Make Our Garden Grow" from Candide - which, as always, made me cry.
-
Good thing you both get an extra hour of sleep tonight....well I guess we ALL get an extra hour, but it sounds like you guys could really use it
-
Oh wait....DR Laura doesn't get an extra hour of sleep, I forgot
-
LOL!
-
Tortie-Belle got adopted today.
-
DR edisaurus - Glad to see that you made it back to Atlanta safe and sound. And, remember, I'll be back there in March! :)
-
Yeah for Tortie-Belle!
-
Hope Sunset Boulevard went well tonight.
I hope so too. Or, at the very least, that someone ended up dead in the swimming pool. ;)

I also bought a brand new seal copy of aJim Brickman cd - Simple Things also 74 cents
-
The Jim Brickman cd made me wonder - why is there no Jose Simbulan cd?
I sure would buy a copy or three!

Actually, no. They're going into a library of charts that are specific to these Gardenia shows (I have the originals back where they belong, though), as the ultimate idea for these shows is to be able to do them elsewhere - like NY.

Tonight, I ushered for a local production of "The Taming of the Shrew," that was set in the Old West. For the most part, it worked. The accents weren't consistent and muddied their diction, but otherwise it was a fun evening. They wrote a few songs for the show, but not enough to call it a musical. There were probably only seven or eight songs during the three hour evening. The audience really liked it. Tonight was their last performance, so I'm glad I was able to see it.

A couple of my friends were in it, but they left and didn't come out to the lobby, so I didn't get to see them. Oh, well. I know I'll see them again.

Tomorrow, I'm working concessions for the SOGO Concert (http://www.washingtoncenter.org/upcoming-events/2010/11/7/sogo-fall-concert.html) at the Washington Center for the Performing Arts.

SOGO stands for Student Orchestras of Greater Olympia (http://www.studentorchestras.org/). My friend Margo's middle daughter plays cello in the orchestra...she's very good.
